Wildstar shares the creators of Vanilla WOW and offers a new spin on a traditional MMO. With the action packed combat, extensive housing, PVP warplots, arenas, dungeons and unbelievable hard 20-40 man raids this game has a lot to offer for those who a not happy with modern tumbled down MMOs. 10/10

WildStar does a good job of taking MMO staples and making them fresh again. From combat to questing, dungeons, raids and housing they have put their spin on traditional conventions and IMO, it feels very fresh and fun.

Find a friend who has purchased the game and see if they have an extra 7-day guest pass for you, and play up to level 15 to decide if you like it. For me, it's a blast.

Incredibly fun, full feature MMORPG. Most fun since WoW launched. It has some bugs and glitches, but that's to be expected. Given a 9 instead of 10 due to the lackluster UI and memory leaks.

When dungeon boss fights are the equivalent of a very well designed raid encounter you know you are onto a great game. The amount of co-ordination required, the fact that it is not forgiving, how interesting and paced the battle is, make me want more even after the third death.

This game makes me want more, and I would recommend everyone try it out

This game is probably the best MMORPG since WoW:BC. I have played WoW from vanilla to cataclysm, FF14ARR, GW2, Tera, and many other free mmorpgs. And most of them got REALLY dull. WoW was the best one, but it became TOO casual for my taste.

    Pros:
This game has a lot of content, and I mean A LOT. There is something for everyone, whether it be questing, choosing a specific path, working on housing, professions, etc. I have not gone to end game yet, so I can't comment on that.. but from the dungeons I've done, I can see a fun and exciting challenge awaiting.

    Cons:
Of course, not many games ever had the perfect launch... not even WoW. Server queues were pretty bad at the start, but only because EVERYONE was trying to get into a specific one (they made a few more realms to help resolve this issue). My BIGGEST complaint will have to be some of the sloppy UI. The questing system is a bit hectic, and not as compartmentalized as some of the other MMOs. I'm sure they'll fix it and make it better, just as WoW did... and for now Addons help with this problem. Another con people might have is the art style (a bit cartoonish), but the graphics are nice. If you can get over the cartoonish artstyle, this game is great.

TL;DR: This game is amazing in terms of content, gameplay, and game mechanics. Cons are sloppy UI and questing system, however just like any start of an MMO, give it time to be refined. Definitely a game made to last.

Great game. Skill shot style abilities and a fleshed out talent tree are what shines the most to me. Buggy at times but provides a lot more than any other MMO has at launch.

The game works through "telegraph" abilities, visisble to everyone through coloured patches on the ground. Abilities aren't targeted at players or NPCs, they are aimed at an Area of Effect and player input determines a hit or miss. The AI uses the same system and let's players use the dodge system to full effect. Most interesting perhaps is how healing uses the same system, players (DPS especially) need to be area of where their healer is dumping the heals, since he can't run around after every player. This system is not only unique, it makes the gameplay intensive, immersive en actually quite hard.

Hard? Yeah, this game is hard. Adventures and dungeons will see your group wipe. Over and over and over again. New tactics, new mechanics and fights that are utterly unforgiving. For the experienced MMO gamer who's been pampered with dumbed down content this will come as a shock at first but with elation secondly. You cannot cruise through this game on auto pilot, not even while questing.

There's the occasional bug, but nothing a few patches aren't going to solve. But you get a fresh and unique MMORPG which is hard as nails and filled with every kind of content you'd want. Easily the best MMORPG released since WoW saw the light of day.

    1) It is a nice visual style
    2) An unusual approach to game mechanics (the first in my mind working, non target system)
    3) Interesting levlling
    4) The quintessence of all that, for what we love Wow dungeons and raids( +a lot of new)
    5) Perfect game, pluses which can enumerate a very long time.

Wow, was not expecting an mmo this good. Thought it might be a quirky diversion but this is a much better game than anything released since WoW in 2005. Probably will appeal to the hardcore crowd, but I mean hardcore as a mindset, not just raiders. Its pvp is a heck of alotta fun, but all I'd ever hear about was 1%, blah, blah, blah, raiding, 1%, and so on.

WildStar brings a fresh gameplay to the MMO scene, graphics and animation are very cool, they invested a lot of effort in the soundtrack, and the fighting mechanics...damm this is how an MMO should be done!
At lvl 6 you can already start doing PVP! which is very competitive in this game and requires you to bring a lot of focus and dedication to the game!

By far the best aspect of the game is the dungeons. Telegraphs make sure you're not wiping for an hour on the same boss. You can't get free epic loot without working for it and the legendary gear is a big slog, attunement to raids, 20man, 40man etc.
Graphics are great when you get past some of the performance issues Carbine are hotfixing out. but generally they have had a positive launch, not too many problems. I played wow, swtor, secret world, gw1 and 2 hardcore and I can recommend Wildstar to the real MMO fans. Unlike many others that came after ."That MMO", that were heavily based upon their IP names and failed to deliver a great and satisfying experience in the long run, wildstar delivers just what everyone pretty much wanted from an MMO, hence it's "lack of originality". But do not let this deceive you, it's that same aspect that makes this game a great MMO, since it feels and plays like what the community established as an MMO.

To respond to negative reviews those who have technical issues about not being able to log on and play what they paid for I can understand. Everyone else who says that this generic, and doesn't have anything new; they are flat out wrong. Two new things are the Path system, and dynamic telegraph combat system. The four Paths which gives you extra content based on your choice of building & giving buffs, exploring every nook and crany, learning secret lore, or straight up killing. The dynamic telegraph combat system causes you to put your enemy inside your telegraph while staying out of theirs. Of course it starts out easy, but then ramps up to high damage variable telegraphs to keep you on your toes. PvP can be tricky with so many telegraphs flying around. And for those that like it the dungeons and raids bosses have harder telegraphs and stun resistance so the whole party has to stun at once. For those things that have been done before, Carbine has polished them up and added style. Housing, mounts (hoverboards), quests, every race has a style of talking, and mining (I have mined a mineral node that turned into a mineral worm and tried to eat me, I then killed it, went inside its belly and mined some more) are all well executed. Wildstar actually has something for everybody.
The only downsides would be I have been dropped 4 times in 2 months (not that bad for a just released MMO), and the quest que on the screen can get a bit unwieldy since there are so many quests and the numbering system changes based on how close you are (of course you can always drop a quest from the que when you want to).

The only struggle i had is at the beginning , too much information/new ui at once. Raids, dongeons, adventures, housing, custom mount, arenas, bgs, 40vs40 warplots.

Simple : You loved WOW Vanilla and bored by the medieval/fantasy theme ? Wildstar is the Wow Vanilla if it has been developed for 2014. Nothing more to add, just play it and enjoy. So the stupidity here is to give a 0 to a game if you don't like it or if you rated 10/10 TESO ? Ok so I will rate 10 instead of the 8 I wanted to rate...

Fantastic game! As a long time Guild wars 2 player, i needed a change and this game offers that. It has humour, interesting quests, a well designed combat system and the icing on top for me was the visuals. They remind me so much of Rachet and clank/Jakk and Daxter. As an MMO fan and gamer in general i highly recommend this gem of a game. 10/10

Carbine has managed to craft one of the better MMO's in a long time here. I've played a lot of recent MMO's lately, from SWToR to FF14 and Wildstar will have me hooked for a very long time. The only issue I have with the game right now is the really crappy optimization, but that should be fixed and the FPS issues should be ironed out.

-Wildstar doesn't throw loot at you, you have to earn it.
-The move set is just enough to be complex (You get 10 moves and can pick from 30 moves).
    - I like the story, but you have to read the journals and comic books to learn about the events of planet Nexus.
    - The game has an incredibly deep housing system that is fun to use.
-The developers really listen to complaints and are working hard to fix problems. Look at the various reddit posts to see how Carbine responds to people on reddit to fix problems.
-You can buy your monthly subscription with in game gold.

    Cons:
-A few bugs hinder play (missing a lore journal here and there)
-This game requires you to be social and work with others

Overall, if you're looking for a challenging game that leads you to shouting for joy when doing a simple dungeon, Wildstar is for you. I play the game with my girlfriend (who really enjoys it) and it's been a fun adventure for us so far!

Wildstar is hard, but it is FAIR! If you die, it's most likely because you messed up and thanks to the telegraphs you'll usually know why you died.

The other features, like warplots, pvp, housing, adventure mode, paths, the crafting all great but the selling point of this MMo is the telegraph mechanic by far...

You won't really understand this untill you encounter your first dungeon boss... So if the game doesn't look that special to you at first glance, i stronlgy suggest that you keep going untill you unlock the first dungeons.

Solid MMO, that could stick around for a good while.

Where FFXIV was slow paced and predictable in telegraphs to move out of, Wildstar's are all over the place, come in fast, and require a split second choice between dodging and trying to interrupt.

Each of the six classes has two roles to choose from: damage and then either tank or healer.
Unlike most other MMOs, healing here is very much about being fast, mobile, and keeping an eye on the battle - there is no grid of moles to whack. All attacks, buffs, and healing are area based effects that impact anyone inside the area they are cast into.

Two of the three tanking options seem taken directly from player wish lists of past MMOs: The stealthing tank, and the ranged pet tank. The third is your standard heavy armor sword and laser cannon tank.

The visuals are stunningly engaging and highly cartoonish. Even clouds in the sky resemble old Saturday morning cartoon clouds. Even when the game starts to get really serious, the cartoons do it with style and a toss to humor.

The dungeon content is truly challenging, and built with an eye towards players who enjoy them for that challenge rather than as a 'gold farming / leveling time sink.'

Unlike a number of recent MMOs, there are no dynamic world events, and no auto-scaling as you return to older zones - this is my only major criticism, as it means lower level content will empty out over time. Given the very high number of group focused enemies and tasks even in the initial zones of play - this may cause some issues down the road.

But beyond that, it is stunningly fun.

Characters have a vast array of individual customization options - being able to change skills and specialization bonuses on the fly.

Costumes are there from the beginning, letting you tailor the appearance of your character early on to exactly the look you desire.

Player Housing... becomes its own game. With all sorts of tools to customize your plot of land. And the plots of land are not some thing you need to keep paying to keep or shell out massive funds to get. Its given to you at level 14 (of 50), a few hours into play - and is yours to keep. You can put stylish homes on it, build a forest, plop down a mini-dungeon that you won elsewhere in the game, place private resource spots for crafting, and so on.

And crafting too, is highly customizable. You assemble needed ingredients, and then dial in the bonuses / quality you want, and attempt to craft. Boost it up too much and you risk a crafting failure, consuming the ingredients. But dial it down, and you can be guaranteed a sure thing.

This is an MMO that should withstand the test of time. All the right elements are there.

The usual launch issues of gold farmers and curious bugs are there - but those will be sorted out soon.

It is hard to fault this game, in any respect that isn't just minor nuscences, personal taste, or an unwillingness to give it a go (which makes up the bulk of negative reviews).

However, the best part of this game isnt in its content, it is in fact found in its content generators. The developers, Carbine Studios. They often say "the devs are listening", and this is more true than most realise. These guys listen to their players, make changes based on feedback, and don't lie or sell half truths to their player base, the final product is more player influenced than any mmo has been, and will continue this trend into the future.

If your looking for a new home, whether your a veteran MMO player or a newbie. Know that the devs plan to look after you and earn your monthly sub.
It is this gamers opinion that this is the first game in a long time to justify its sub, and you only need to research their aggressive post launch plans and extensive and already present Endgame content to see that.

I look forward to many years of wild star to come :)

I am going to give this a super honest review and point out some key features (and failures) with this game. First off, I gave the game a 9 but I sat here for a good 30 seconds flipping between 8 and 9. It definitely is a solid game that deserves a high review.

Key features that make the game amazing:
    - New combat system. Seriously awesome. It makes pvp more intense and dungeons a lot harder. You can't just run around like an idiot and keep someone targeted. You have to manually aim your moves which is incredibly challenging and fun.
    - Crafting. Crafting is a lot more hands on than other MMO's on the market. It isn't simply a "Craft this item 4000 times and level up" system. You follow branches and unlock stuff manually. It's cool.
    - Player housing. Although it isn't as cool as SWG pre-cu housing, it definitely is awesome. Plus it serves a purpose other than entertaining me for hours on end. The fancier the items in your house are, the more rested XP you get. So I spent a solid 1 platinum on making my house the coolest thing around for both my entertainment and practical use.
    - Great Community. People seem super friendly and are willing to help.
    - Super easy to Mod.
    - Very challenging PVP and dungeons. I swear these level 20 dungeons are harder than most other MMO's raids.
    - Different quest paths
    - Class paths on top of your main class. They have classes called Soldier, scientist, explorer and Settler. While you are leveling your toon, you can run around and do side quests to level your other class for cool unlocks. It makes things interesting since you won't always be doing the same thing on each alt/friends quest line.
    - Lots of end game content (just research it, Im not going to type it all out).

    Faults:
    - The game is sort of hard to run. It's not like the graphics are ridiculous or anything, but for some reason this game taxes my computer more than Mass Effect.
    - Some zones are just your same old grind and repeat quests. Gets old after a while, especially because some quests want you to kill a total of 25 mobs when each one is tough to kill.
    - Some zones feel like they never end and make you want to pull your hair out.
    - Dungeon and PVP experience is kind of... weird. You can spend hours doing dungeons/adventures and feel like you didn't get any xp at all. Same with pvp. At first it seemed great, but now the time to pvp vs the xp gained isn't equaling out.
    - Sometimes you will be questing and suddenly your quest line just ends. I don't know if its a bug or I did something wrong, but multiple times I have been questing and now I am stranded and have to find the quests myself.

I'm tired and hungry, so I am sure I missed out on a lot of stuff but this is a basic overview of the game. It is a solid game, I really freaking enjoy it and I would recommend it to anyone. It has the "great mmo" effect; I get tired of grinding, I log off, but now I suddenly have the urge to play again. It keeps bringing me back. I get tired of doing quests so I craft, then i decorate my house, then I figure ill pvp and before I know it I am questing again. It is a great game. It is very challenging though, so don't expect to launch this game and have your hand held the whole way. You have to actually try and put effort into your character. You aren't going to be AFKing pvp and dungeons in this game.

9/10. Solid game. Would play again... in fact... I am launching it now.

Housing on the other hand is a blast you can do so much with your plot I saw a guy make a puma with a golden ship for a penis and any game that supports that kind of customization in housing gets a + from me. PvP is pretty fun haven't done enough of it to really say if its good or not. It is fun though. All in all It's probably the most fun I've had in an MMO since WoW vanilla and I'm excited to experience new things in this world every day. I really recommend this game for MMO lovers. Expand

Amazing Game. This will definitely be the leader of the MMORPG market.
U can feel the combat System, u can love the PVP and the PVE.
Maybe the only MMORPG where u can have fun with Professions and with Crafting.
    Amazing Housing, Amazing Customization.
The only thing that can be bad is the graphic style of the game, but that's personal and personally i love it.

A breathe of fresh air ! Not only is mobility finally key in an MMO but we also have to be aware of our surroundings. Nothing is given to you in this game, it's a challenge. Yeah it can be "grindy" BUT what MMO isn't ? WoW = Grind Fest, Rift = Grind Fest, SWOTOR = Grind Fest. Hands down the best MMO to come out in years due to it's originality and the combat systems !

I tend to play MMO’s as a drifter: roll in, pick up some quests, do some, skip others, get distracted en route to the next one. I rarely read quests texts and just go where the arrow points and hit what’s marked for me by the quest tracker. I don’t care about completing anything unless I have to do.

I get ganked. Return the favor. Help out a /zone request, get in a random raid trying for a world boss achievement. Stand around doing nothing, enjoying music and the general sound stage of the location, then veer off for a spot of resource gathering. Queue a battleground on a whim, then leave to take naked pics on a mountain.

I love to play the auction house, especially in a game where everyone’s new, with some selling stuff below vendor price. Get rich. Spent a ton on vanity (it’s all vanity, in any case, ask my buddy Marcus Tullius). I love to help out randoms, or choose to watch them gain a repair bill – random kindness is random.

I love fast, fast combat with a careful selection of skills in my bar, with constant repositioning and aiming and a nice spray of loot for my troubles.

And I’m up for getting my ass handed in any dungeon a couple of times, to bask in the pay-off of eternal, virtual and meaningless (but highly satisfying) glory. Wipes fill me with glee and determination.

I love messy world pvp - Aurins. Must. Die.

    Wildstar is my game.

The only thing this game is missing, is more friends to play with! :-)

Now lets get to the review. I have played mmo's my whole life, played wow like most of you. This game takes all the things you like from wow and puts the challenge back into it. The stat theory crafting and pve feel rewarding when you accomplish something. The ravegraphs as everyone is complaining about make you actually involved in the boss fight instead of just looking at action bars and casting timers. The game actually looks amazing on ultra as well. The pvp of course need to get balanced, but thats something that never gets perfected.
Pros: Classes all have tank/heal + dps specs
    housing is amazing
crafting actually matters again for some of the best items
challenging pve content (what i have to get attuned again)
armor dye and well as costuming
content monthly to justify 15 a month
    fun and fresh combat system
    cons
the leveling sucks as in every mmo now, but honestly how are you gonna justify leveling in a mmo.. so stop complaining about fetch quest after fetch quest.
the ui does need a lot of work
couple of bugs still that need fixing

last but not least the game has been out a month stop hating on stuff that took wow 10 years + 12million subscribers to become a perfect game. this game is on the right path already

Wildstar is an imaginative game that simply oozes polish and attention to detail from almost very pore. From the point where you step out of that character creation you're introduced to a world that is full of life and zanny, sometimes outrageous characters. Don't judge this book by its saturday morning cartoon cover, because there is a great deal more depth underneath.

Disclaimer: I'm no expert reviewer, but I consider myself a very experienced MMO player. I started in FFXI, played WoW, GW and GW2, both versions of FFXIV, Champions, CoX, and numerous other MMOs. I'm no pro, but I've been around the block.

So why do I think Wildstar is a good game? Let's break it down!

Story: On the surface, Wildstar is about two factions racing to claim as much as they can of the planet Nexus. But Nexus is much more than it seems, and the ancient race that once inhabited it has left many secrets for them to discover. On top of that are memorable characters, rich story lines and pages upon pages of lore. My only real complaint is that the story loses cohesion in early zones, and switching from zone to zone in quests is a bit disjointed.

Combat: Like most MMOs, you don't get the full measure of combat until around level 5. But even before then you get a taste of fast paced combat where movement and positioning matters, and where you aim is important. Attacks are smooth and enjoyable, both in use and in their display. It has a 'traditional' hotkey system, but attacks play out more like an action game than your standard MMORPG. While you're stuck with your class you choose, every class can fit into any role you really want. You can be a DPS, tank or heal or any mix inbetween. Even in that MMO trifecta there are numerous different abilities and power-ups to use based on your tastes, so no two characters will be the same.

Graphics: The cartoony look is not going to be for everyone. But if you can get over it, you'll find a lot of personality in every visual this game has to offer. Colors are bright and vibrant, attacks appear suitably powerful and shiny, and the armor is some of the most appropriate I've ever seen in a MMO. No bikini chainmail here! (Yet, anyway.) Character design is a bit lacking; Unfortunately you cannot change everything about your character, but you can still make one that's unique to your individual tastes.

Sound: 'OH YEAH, CUPCAKE. YOU LEVELED UP!' Just the leveling up graphics and music is enough to suggest that this is one game where the sound won't bore you with bagpipes and pipe organs. Most musical tracks are very lively, but still manage to keep to the theme of the area you're in. There's some voice acting, but most quest characters have some canned sentence to say that probably has nothing to do with the actual quest. There's a great deal of atmosphere in the sound design, from the rumble of an engine to the buzz of electricity; combined with the graphics it makes the world feel a great deal more alive.

Questing: I'll be honest, they don't break the mold on questing. Most quests will revolve around seeing an exclamation point over someone's head, you talk to them, get the quest, and go get or kill what they want. Hard to break out of that system, but at least Wildstar keeps things interesting. Some quests involve interesting puzzles or exploration, and even if you need to kill something it's represented by a percentage instead of a strict number; Harder enemies represent a higher percentage, and fewer you need to kill. There's also Path quests for the path that you choose at chargen, which spices things up and gives you more varied quests to undertake.

I've praised the game a lot here, and for good reason; it does a lot that's good. But there are some down sides. There are a slew of minor, but irritating bugs that have cropped up, from buttons that can only be pressed if you hover at the exact right angle, to some bugs with account items. While robust, the story can seem a little discombobulated if you miss certain quests. And even with mixing the quests up, they can get a little repetitive. None of these are game breaking, but enough for me to take a point off.

All in all, I think it's a game that's at least worth a good look before you turn it down. For some it might take some getting used to, but I think that the game has polished everything that makes MMOs fun to a fine shine.

    Cons:
    - Clunky interface for questing, sometimes too many, bad tracking/prioritization based on location. You can work through this with about 4 seconds of reading, though.
    - Character plates are horrible. Sometimes they are too high to see, sometimes don't show up at all. You can get an addon called Bijiplates to fix this, though. There is a memory leak in the addon but just reloadui to fix it. /shrug
    - Questing can get a bit grindy but hey, its an MMO and they do breadcrumbing, hubbing, and such quite well. More on this in pros.
    - Some pretty big queues if you log on during peak hours
    - Chat interface is not awesome. It is very hard to carry on a whisper convo - you have to Enter+/r. Life goes on.

    Pros:
    - Questing hubbing is quite good. If you miss a quest, the quest giver will call you and give you the quest. It is still possible to get lost and end up in the wrong place come on, you need to think A LITTLE BIT.
    - Dungeons are a blast. They are fairly easily mastered if you have a good crew but they are still very fun and repeatable. I haven't tried veteran dungeons yet.
    - Adventures are a nice alternative to questing if you want to do some rapid group lvling. They are fun and quick. Nice change of pace
    - The zones and music are beautiful and mysterious.
    - I like exploring but rarely do it in MMOs because I feel pressure to get to the highest level quickly. Wildstar rewards you (not terribly well but well enough for me) for exploring. I don't feel like it slows my lvling down that much.
    - Combat is insanely fun. You will not be standing in front of a mob hammering 2 keys, but if you've played GW2 or any other dodge based game, you are used to this. The big win for me is that finding skill synergy seems a lot clearer while still preserving huge variety.
    - Crafting is pretty straight forward but unlike in wow, I feel like I can level it up as I level (without going too far out of my way) and still make myself some upgrades.

Overall, I really like this game. I feel like it preserved the things I liked about early wow while making many aspects of the game more interesting and challenging in the right ways. No, leveling doesn't take twice as long, thats not a challenge. Instead, you need to pay a little attention to combat while lvling. I feel like I just spend a lot more time doing the things I want to do and less time doing needless dumb stuff. Also dungeons. Can't say enough about them, the low level dungeons are roughly equivalent to BC heroics. Hard at first, but farmable with a decent group.

Anyway, TL;DR, Good game, some bugs, I'm sure they will get fixed. Not a wow clone, more like wow 2.0.

The spells and abilities are simple to use with lots of options to play the way you want, while still being an individual player unlike any other in the game. I ended up spending 5 days in game leveling to the level cap. Most MMOs i can hit the level cap in no more than 2 days of grinding. Immediately familiar to anyone who's visited Azeroth and with enough new twists on the tried-and-tested theme park formula, Carbine's game is so overflowing with stuff to do that it's certainly justified in asking for a subscription - even if less people seem prepared to sign up to one.

Wildstar banks on hardcore raid and instance difficulty as well as its excellently implemented "dancing" real time combat mechanic to offer something significantly new and fresh to the MMORPG scene. Low server population and annoying hints of a "Pay To Win More" model hold it back in certain areas, but it has all the potential of becoming a well established and much loved setting for years to come.
