Tired of killing monsters and solving quests on the east? You can go north and explore the region of Klesabia, Macabon or Ealonia, slay northern monsters ... generally do whatever you desire.

Wave of Darkness is not your average casual action RPG. It is tailored for fans of hardcore old-school RPG titles, offering massive dark and gritty fantasy world which will challenge you at every step. The world of Narr is corrupted by the Dark Magic, and you will have to do your best to free land from this malicious deviance.

As long as you realize that there are going to be annoyances that are out of your control, you can still have a blast with the game. The character progression system is very intriguing and rewarding, since there are many options at your disposal, especially in the spell department.

Wave of Darkness tries to separate itself from other games on the market by trying to do everything one might want to see in an RPG: deep item and spell crafting, open-world environments, tough encounters. All of these things are fine goals, but they’re all done better elsewhere.

I thinkWhile this is certainly a niche game, it is a good game of its type. It runs well, I've had no crashes, freezes, or loading problems. I think there have been some issues running it in Win 10, but Win 8.1 runs it well. I'm running it at 2560x1440 @ 60Hz, no problem. There are glitches certainly, but nothing to stop your progress. And support for the game, on the Steam discussion board, has been stellar. It's a game in the style of Gothic, in that it doesn't hold your hand. You get a quest with minimal direction and you have to solve it. Exploration is mandatory for everything, but you have a detailed map to help you get around. Not that it will lead you directly to your destination; exploration, again. You can make bookmarks on the map. You talk to people to get quests, no ! over their heads. Also, there's nothing to tell you when you complete a quest, no Ta-Dah. You have to know when you've done as asked. Combat is meh, but the focus of the game is not combat, it's story and exploration. The tutorial explains all the basics, but you have to explore to uncover everything. I spent 90 min. just on noob island. There are also 3 short tutorial vids available and an online game manual. The graphics are simple, you'll feel like you're playing Risen, but they are suitable to this type of game. Voice acting is pretty good and all major NPCs, like quest givers, are voiced. All in all, if you like games where you take your time, explore, have to figure things out for yourself, and that have a pretty good story; I think you'll like this. I gave it 8/10 because it needs some fine tuning. But, it also does everything it sets out to do pretty well. Expand

Another game so bad that I couldn't bother finishing the tutorial, especially when the protagonist got stuck and couldn't walk out of a littleAnother game so bad that I couldn't bother finishing the tutorial, especially when the protagonist got stuck and couldn't walk out of a little depression right in the middle of the passage. Before quitting I still had time to witness a large number of stupidities, starting with a champion of bad interfaces (counter-intuitive to the point of becoming cryptic,) a camera scheme that seems suited for a gamepad but doesn't accept one, offering instead two clumsy movement mechanisms that force me to constantly and slowly rotate the camera to know where I am or what is blocking me, tooltips that let me wonder where the objects they are tooltipping about actually are, windows that pop up at 90% out of the screen, and much, much more.

I'll also mention that half the skills are about gathering and crafting, which sounds like a recipe for disaster in a RPG, but apparently it's called a feature nowadays. Pixel hunting for ingredients has probably become a feature as well, I suppose. Well, not for me.

Anyway, it's not only buggy, it's all very badly designed.

Another 1/2 assed attempt from dreamatrix..

So asif legends of dawn wasnt a complete master-crap, these guys thought it would be a good idea to give up on trying to fix it to INSTEAD start a kickstarter for this game. Yes folks, they left a game in a completely broken state to start milking money for a new one. DEPLORABLE.

SO lets look at this game, same gameplay, same mediocre graphics, same super ugly inventory.. oh my.. its pretty much the same game! the crash reporter even spits out "lod.game" lod.. LEGEND OF DAWN! When comparing the install folders again we see a striking similarity. All they did was modify the game they ABANDONED and sell it as a new product... IT EVEN HAS THE EXACT SAME ACHIEVEMENTS!!

This is the kind of developer that steam REALLY needs to keep off their site. Having kickstarted alot of games (including a whole lot of dogs) i would be SUPER pissed if i had backed them and they released the same game essentially re-skinned. The problem is some people refuse to admit that they even OWN any terrible games, much less helped make them happen, i own ALOT.

So back to the game.. The tutorial is awful, the placement of the popup windows is awful.. The very first quest had improper info. Talk to the quest giver then open a door elsewhere. Get to the door, says talk to the quest giver. Go to quest giver, says open the door. Have to Google to find out there was a key in a box that I didn't click on. No need to talk to quest giver. This is the opening tutorial.

On the opening island there is only 1 enemy. So far the game seemed to be trying to explain how things work, but no tutorial for fighting. So I figure out how to draw my weapon and begin fighting...which involves holding down left click on the enemy. Seems fine, just like Diablo. Figure I will get more moves later. Nope, not fine. Enemy doesn't die. It's not like I have any skill I can use here, all I can do is melee at point blank range. Enemy kills me with 2/3rds of it's life. I respawn and attack again (Happily enemy doesn't go back to full HP). 2 more deaths and 5 mins later and it's dead.

Perhaps it had something to do with the Cursed Weapon I was holding. I found this weapon lying around, looked better than mine so I equiped it. It's the tutorial, so what could go wrong? Totally cursed. Can't un-equip. I couldn't even figure out why I couldn't un-equip until I saw a small icon in the top right of my screen saying I was holding a cursed item. It should have said something across my screen when I tried to switch it out.

Then looting is terrible. Want to mine? No animation. Just opens up a window with some ore. EVERYTHING is like this. Can't even shift click to put it in your inventory. Drag and drop. Or click a picture of a hand to get it all at once.

Map is fairly bad as well. It's huge, as advertised, but ugly and hard to understand. For instance, I wanted to un-curse my weapon. I had to look up what a Shrine looked like on the map since it's not listed under the rest of the large icons that signify areas of importance.

Quality is missing in every dimension: control, animation of the main character, graphics quality, and basic quest chains.

i usually do full 5000 word reviews, but im going to put forth as much effort as these devs did and just cut it short here.
