Finally something interesting from the HNS genre, people complain that there is nothing new from the ARPG genre and I am not surprised because it is impossible to curtail their expectations.

Game is looking good and respect the Warhammer universe. Story is a bit dull but in this kiind of game, the story is not what you're here for.
It has a lot of potential and I can't wait to see what's coming in post-launch with new endgame modes and Tomb Kings dlc.

I actually really like this game and it's only been 2 hours since i started playing (without any boosters etc.) with an Elven Ranger (1st. character i chose) and she's already at lvl 13. (good build for starters)
At the beginning of the tutorial you might have a feeling that the game starts off kinda slow, but i knew it was specifically designed that way so i just took it from there.. (As i recall, this was similar to Diablo 2 & 3 so we shouldn't complain about that) Now after 2 hours in, things are becoming faster, and harder which of course is only for the better..
Speaking of better, these few hours have greatly exceeded my expectations about this game (i did not play the beta etc.) but i will say this to all my friends and readers alike, play this game with an open mindset and don't compare it too much with Diablo, Torchlight or Grim Dawn etc. because if you can't detach yourself from it, you might eventually be somewhat disappointed.
So after these few hours i'm yet to encounter any bugs (small, big, or crippling) (while using a Xbox 360 controller) and i will also say that the sound/music is really great, the graphics are dark, gritty and gloomy (very nice), it has some physics and of course tons of blood and gore! (yet it always stays perfectly tasteful)
The game is really easy and fun to pick up, and has so many cool features which you can freely unlock and upgrade as soon as you level up (still depending on requirements of course).
The character building (attributes, skills, equipment stats etc. are all easily comprehensible (a bit diablo lite esque), yet the game also offers a welcomed crafting/boosting mechanic that allows you to further improve your character's stats.
You can also trade (instead of selling) no longer/unwanted stuff for bonus experience/upgrades and in some cases rare items etc.
The story is very well implemented, but don't expect true greatness such as Diablo 3 has to offer because you need to consider the amount of time and resources Blizzard has compared to Eko Software. (no need to draw a picture there)
All in all, i'm pleasantly surprised about this game and i hope in time the reviews get better and the sales will go up as well, so maybe a worthy sequel could be due in a year or two (who knows)?

To conclude, i will happily recommend this game to anyone with an open mindset who's willing to play, and keep doing so even after the 2 hour refund mark. (and hopefully the devs will not abandon this game any time soon..)
Giving it a personal thumbs up and a score of 8.0/10

    - Useless online multiplayer
    - local save files (hello cheaters /modders, you're welcome here)

No way to create items, or buy items from an NPC. There are almost no NPC in game, there's basically nothing you can do, you can just slash mobs, that's it. No way to forge equip or customize anything, You just chose skills, equip what you find on the ground and kill stuff. That's it, repeat again and again, feels hard to stay awake after few hours.

    This game is sold as:
    - "AN XXL BESTIARY, With over 70 monsters". Seriously? To me it looks like there are about 6-7 monsters with different skins to look different, but with exactly the same behaviour.
    - "HIGH REPLAY VALUE". Really? Seems to run always on the same couple of maps

To me... this is just a BETA, a great beta though, with a lot of potential. But until this potential is fully released, don't waste your money. The scariest part is that they are already selling a season pass. Why? The released game is so empty that the new content should be provided for free (included in the purchase price of the original game).

Wait for the game to be finished or for the price to drop to 20$ (I guess will happen soon, looking at the reviews)

    End-game...

I really wanted to love WARHAMMER: CHAOSBANE. A hack & slash game with excellent visuals set in the Warhammer (Fantasy) world, what could go wrong?
    Well... quite a few things...

    THE GOOD

    - art design & style: I love it! The graphics look great, the gothic style is fantastic and the effects look magnificent.

    - skill system. You unlock skills by level, both active and passive and you can mix and match these skills. Each skill comes in 3 upgrades unlocked at higher levels. Each skill also costs a certain amount of skill points to "ready". Your "readied" skills cannot exceed your skill points. This system is new and quite good.

    - boss fights are really cool!

    THE BAD

    - repetition. This is something that most games in this genre suffer from. DIABLO, GRIM DAWN, and all other DIABLOesque games are fun for a while, but then the endless cycle of random labyrinthian levels with endless hordes of cannon fodder and even more loot gets boring. And this goes for all three DIABLO games as well as for my personal favorite in the genre, GRIM DAWN. WARHAMMER: CHAOSBANE suffers more from it because each chapter only has one tile set. You end up doing 5 dungeon runs with this tile set, then beat the boss of the chapter before being ushered into the next chapter with a new tile set. That is very poor and lazy design!

    - enemies. There are basically 3-4 enemies in the game. This number is boosted by reskins only. Then there are 4 bosses. Yes, only 4. In a game such as this variety is king. Enemy variety is an absolute MUST

    - a dead HUB: between "missions" (which basically are dungeon runs) you need to run around the HUB and talk to different characters to advance to the next "mission" and collect your reward. The quest givers are found in different buildings. Why? To stretch game time?

    - no store system. Yes, you read correctly. You do not sell obsolete items, you DONATE them. Instead of gold you get a sort of "experience" to unlock passive abilities

    - voice acting. Atrocious. Just atrocious. Especially the elf girl made me cringe

    - story: the story is poor. Couple that with the horrible voice acting, I ended up skipping ALL dialogue just to get back to killing (don't worry about missing mission details, in modern game fashion you have a mini map with GPS and constantly on-screen mission objectives

    - seriously overpriced! The regular version of CHAOSBANE costs $50. The Magnus Edition costs $70. To be honest, $50 is far too much for what is offered here. This is a $20 game MAX!

    AND THE UGLY:

    - there are 6 active and 4 passive skill slots. 4 further passive skill slots are only available to those who bought the more expensive Magnus Edition !

Bottom line: WARHAMMER: CHAOSBANE is a painfully average game that could have been so much more. The devs had a gem of a license, the WARHAMMER universe is rich and has so many monsters and classes to choose from and the devs only use 4 monsters and 4 bosses? Then there's the most stereotypical character classes: a sword & shield soldier, a dual wielding dwarven barbarian, an elven mage and an elven ranger. Where's the witch hunter? Nah, we got an additional class, the dwarven inventor (yawn). The game's main campaign clocks in at about 10 hours (I beat it in 9 because I skipped all the dialogue and played on "easy" to try to get to a more interesting chapter - which never came.
Wait for a very deep sale for this one. It is not worth more than $20. There are several BETTER alternatives available which are cheaper, too: DIABLO 1 + Hellfire expansion are available for $10 on GOG. GRIM DAWN is available for about $25 (+DLCs extra). For $55 you get the entire GRIM DAWN package which offers more content and definitely more variety than CHAOSBANE. And PATH OF EXILE is completely free to play.

My biggest issues is the voices, there was so many annoying player callouts , bad acting and bugs in the voice audio, it was a joke. In the first 5 hours of exploring this game I heard my characters voice change from female to male 4 times on 2 different characters, (What the !?!?! is that). The battle noises and callouts of the Dwarf and Elf are so annoying I had to turn voices volume down, but even that doesn't kill all the irritating laughs and stuff. The sound is a constant assault on your senses and it hard to like much with this constant irritation. It doesn't help that the female character look like the single mum with 5 kids smoking a ciggy outside your local pub of a tuesday, yeh there's no femme fatales or sexy badass warriors in this game, just annoying uggos.
The leveling is terrible , it's just so limiting. First your limited by skills being locked , then by not having anywhere near enough points, then by boredom. You don't sell your gear, you just give it away, removing (trading) one of my favorite part of most ARPGS i've played. Its a buggy undercooked bore fest . Get Inquisition Martyr, a good game.
One good thing is the graphics and performance, game world looks great an is 60 frames, but the reuse the same 3 environment 3 or 4 times each in the campaign, making that less of a win.

    Endgame:

It's one of THE MOST repetitive games i have ever played in my entire life (and i've played PONG, man). I mean, grind games are repetitive, you grind. But this game takes it to another level: it's basically 4 acts/chapters that work EXACTLY the same. Chaos champion messing region around, you need to help the leader of the locals by gathering supplies, rescuing prisoners/hunting parties, doing 2 or 3 missions to "weaken" the said champion - story-wise -, then face a big boss with 3 life bars and 3 attacks, that keeps summoning minions and recovering health from the second bar onwards.

I kid you not, if you are daltonic, you won't see a difference between the entire game, for all that changes are the main colors for the monsters (green, red, purple and blue). Some monsters have some slightly different design, but they all work the same.

I am most impressed with Gears Workshop, to let these kinds of games to be released without a quality control to reflect the warhammer brand whatsoever. They just go with the cash-grab flow, it's so disappointing, especially with great settings that are warhammer fantasy and 40k (Inquisitor Martyr, i'm looking at you).

For real, i played this game FOR FREE (imagine paying the full rip-off price) in a friends account, to check it out, up to the 4th Act, and it wasn't worth my time. And i'm a big warhammer fan, still waiting for another game as good as the first Dawn of War (and expansions).

I don't think this game would truly please neither warhammer fans, nor ARPG players, giving no more than that "well, better than nothing" feel. And that wasn't even the case for me, what a complete waste of my time...

Chaosbane levels are all made from a small variety of large “building blocks”, so when you’re sent to clean out another sewer of monsters – it’ll look just like every previous sewer you’ve cleaned so far. Boring and uninspired. [Issue#239, p.68]

Chaosbane is a competent action rpg that fails to compare to the best games of the genre but provides some good time bashing Warhammer branded monsters in an infinite mesmerizing loop that, in the end, is way too repetitive.

In Warhammer: Chaosbane, there is only dull combat. Use two or three favorite abilities to kill hordes of same-looking enemies, marvel at bad animations and identical corridors, and try not to lose your mind. Even cooperative mode, which usually makes everything better, is a boring chore.
