The fun of this game was its fast paced combo based combat gameplay but they deliberately destroyed it all with the latest patch to make the combat work more like XCOM... at last a great warhammer 40K game and they have to destroy it themselves....

Literally one week after release they nerf evry fun combo into the ground without buffing anything to balance it out or even allowing a respec option. There were issues with the game already, now it's just a pos.

Sadly this is just a XCOM clone, and a poor one at that. Dark, murky colours make distinguishing characters a challenge. Undeveloped characters and story. No meaningful choices nor sense of jeopardy. In this game, each grey knight looks and sounds identical. I like Warhammer, but not when it's a poor copy of an existing game. Expand

The game is a bad copy of XCOM2. Boring as hell and simplified game mechanics

Chaos Gate - Daemonhunters is a game of wasted potential. A lot of great features come together to form a mediocre and frustrating game.

While on the surface, it appears to be a fun, Xcom-like Warhammer game, the problems really don't start to show until it's too late to refund. There's a LOT of potential to this game. It's just wasted and hidden behind clunky and unbalanced mechanics.

    1. Combat is frustrating, Your marines are WEAK. I get that you need to not be walking tanks in order to have some good gameplay, but this just isn't it. Enemies outnumber you and deal just as much damage as you do, leaving razor thin margins of error. You will spend most of your combat hiding behind cover that may or may not be destructible, trying to find a way to shoot at an enemy. Your melee weapons will almost never get used. With how little health your marines have, melee is a last resort even though it's mechanically treated like your bread and butter attack.

    2. Even the smallest mistake can have devastating consequences. They also ALWAYS snowball into much bigger problems. If you're up against a pod of gunners, and you place a marine in what turns out to be a bad spot (even if there's no easy way to determine what spots are "bad"), that marine is good as dead. They'll whittle his health down, and then one gunner will suppress him from a mile away while two or three others put him under direct overwatch. If you're particularly "lucky," a grenadier will throw a grenade that applies the Pinned status, follwed by a timed grenade. If that marine does anything but armor up on the next turn, it's dead. Moving out of the grenade range or shooting at an enemy will trigger the overwatch and suppression. That marine is USELESS for an entire turn unless you have the perfect placement of other marines to take out all the threats. But your marines are typically busy dealing with their own problems.

    3. Abilities are kinda blah. If they don't heal your teammates, debuff the enemy, or allow for extra mobility (teleport is VERY useful), they're trash. If they buff your teammate for a turn, you will get more out of just attacking with both knights than you will out of buffing one and then attacking with it. Your overwatch, which is shown off as this crucial skill, only really works against melee enemies since ranged enemies won't ever get into overwatch range.

    4. Cover is destructible. I get that one of the marketing points of this game was a destructible environment. But when a single enemy out of six can just break my cover and then the other five can just kill the knight hiding behind that cover, it feels really useless. There's no indication of whether a particular piece of cover is destructible or not, or how easily destructible it is. You just have to guess and learn.

    5. There are no tactics. Want to split up your knights? They'll die. Want to spread out and cover a wider area? They'll get singled out. Want to keep your knights together? They'll get mowed down by the six gunners that decided to enter the fight. The only tactic is to hide behind cover and pray that you kill the enemies before you get a really bad Warp Surge

    6. Warp Surges SUUUUUUUUCK. I've had warp surges that bring in extra waves of enemies when I'm in the absolute worst position. I've had warp surges that give all my enemies lots of bonus shields right when I got into a position where I was risking my health but could easily kill the enemies. They were then able to escape. I've had warp surges that completely hobble one of my knights for a series of turns, which is DEVASTATING since you only get four knights. Warp surges that boost enemy health. Warp surges that give bonus mutations to enemies. Warp surges that lower my max hp. All of these are at random, and all of them SUCK. You're being punished for not taking out the overpowered enemies fast enough.

I've heard it gets better after you've upgraded your knights, and that it can eventually become boring. But there are so many quit moments before that, that I'm never going to get to that point.

i am once again shocked by how much the Warhammer universe churns out mediocre time wasters as computer games. The graphics and movement is clunky. Everything is too cluttered. The controls, although similar to XCOM are not neat and tidy and easy on the eye. The scripting is charmless.

It is an average attempt at amateur computer game creation. At times it is plain boring and in comparison to XCOM, a game whose style and gameplay it has copied, it looks poor (like think good for 1990s as opposed to 2020s), it is poorly scripted, voice acting is sterile, and actually pretty fricking boring. I bought it on steam, I'm simply not interested in playing much more and I will try and refund it. Far out Warhammer, a company of your huge asset base should actually team up with a AAA developer and properly make a decent game for once instead of churning out mass produced crap.

The real annoyance you run into a group they all move, you get a token action point back and then they move again, summon 2 adds, adds move, next guy summons 2 adds, adds move. So you spent 2 minutes moving your 4 Space Marines but the enemy mobs on fast mode takes 4-5 minutes to move their people, summon zombies, channel abilities and pick one random guy to just wail on even though it puts them in a horrible position. And that's just 1 group if you manage to have another wander in on the fight then you might as well go make dinner and a drink while the enemy moves. Expand

I like turn based games, I like this universe, I dont like this game.
I understand this world is eternally tormented, but while playing the game I would like to have more fun than suffering.

So there's a turn based battle. The game is designed the way it wants you to rush, cause the longer it lasts the harder it becomes. Ok, no problem. Your characters have 3AP for action, attack, ability. If you move outside of enemy zone it's ok. Now, whenever you enter it the turn is the same, but all your characters APs are set to 3 again, the enemy noticed you so the skirmish starts. The problem is you dont know exactly when you breach this zone. If you breach while the rest of your team is 3 moves away you are **** up, the fight is gonna be longer and more demanding. So instead of fast rush, you need to proceed slowly, moving every character by 1 move. Come on game, you want me to rush. Now, I'm wasting my time to adjust to this stupid feature. After 1 y from release, how hard can it be to make this zone visible? I dont want to waste time on save/load or count the tiles:
    https://youtu.be/P3s5DnU_zcY
How hard can it be to redesign marine management to be faster instead of moving mouse back and forth? If you want the hint just check jrpg like FFIV from 30y ago.
A lot of stuff in this game is rng, even the loot u can get. And still you need to pay for it :) So you are in 30-50% game and you still have basic grenade although you invested in getting better one? Tough luck bro. Try smth else.
There is random bonus condition for each fight. If you take it and not fulfill it you will be punished. My favourite is to finish the fight in basic gear. So if you sweat to collect your bling bling gear and want to have fun from it, instead you just need to switch it for crappy one in your tragically slow equipment menu before fight and do the opposite after the fight. What kind of sadist should you be to figure this out it' s gonna be funny?
You want to throw grenade for a 100th time? Awesome, check this cool animation. Can I turn it off? No, why would you like it?
Can I speed up the fight? No, why would you like it?
    The list is sadly longer.
And it's a pity, cause game looks fabulous, the plot is nice and the overall design is good. There are just these small, iritating, easy to fix "features" which made it very unpleasant.

The tactical part works great, and when you're not fighting, there's something to do on the ship as well. Warp drive repair, shield upgrades, barracks expansion. The bombarded planets look nice, the models could have been given a bit more space. But once you put the helmet on in the barracks, the epic feeling is back. [Issue#319]

Daemonhunters isn't just one of the best W40K games of recent years, but also one of the most solid tactical strategy games ever.

Warhammer 40K Chaosgate: Daemonhunters is a good evolutionary path for the genre and for the Warhammer franchise that usually deals with tabletop battles. If you like more isolated combat like in the glorious Firaxis title and you like Warhammer 40K then this is a perfect combination for you because - Emperor Protects!
