    Hmmm... Well, to be honest, that's not my favorite for sure. Plenty of other games that are more interesting and exciting. In fact, I am not the only one who thinks so and most of my buddies say they will hardly ever play this stuff again...

    I did not like the fact that modern tanks are inaccessible - for example, the Leopard or Abrams tank. It is impossible to get similar armored vehicles without investing money. This is disrespectful to the players. Too high computer requirements for graphics, which leaves much to be desired.

    Graphics are 10 years behind today's requirements. Get modern tanks is impossible. I’ve been playing for more than four years, but didn’t even reach the t-55! Thousands of fights have passed. It takes 15 years to get to the Abrams or t-90. This not normal. The game has become inaccessible to ordinary users, has become a closed club of several hundred especially gifted.

    В целом, это уникальная игра, я играл в неё с самого её старта и помню, когда в ней были только самолёты, тогда она мне нравилась гораздо больше и сейчас, мне грустно смотреть на то, во что она превратилась.

The game overall is just about money. On tier 1, at BR 1.3 you still can get uptiered and have to face one of the most BS creation of gaijin "B1-ter".

    There is lots to recommend.. Excellent graphics, a detailed and realistic damage model, lots of vehicles to choose from and the grind requirements aren't too extreme. Crew levelling is nicely done, though it makes little if any difference due to the apparent complete indifference towards British kit and players.

    I've played the British forces up to Tier 3 for naval, air and ground. Played it for several weeks expecting to find good vehicles and bad, some sort of overall balance or playstyle that works. But there isn't one, the Brits are merely there as food for the other nations. Outflank an axis tank and put 5 rounds into their flank, only for them to one shot you in return. This is the hard rule rather than the exception. Naval sees your frigate being outgunned by axis ferries ( yes really!) and the only highlight of the air tree is the numerous marks of Spitfire... Who therefore carry just enough ammo to not pose too much of a threat to the opposition.

    Great potential, particularly for combined arms battles, let down by clearly biassed balancing which results in it being a painful and expensive waste of time. Avoid entirely if you prefer to play British forces.    … Expand

    Paying services: I don't know what about credit cards, but mobile payments, boy oh boy are you in for a treat, when you find out that processing fee is nearly twice the thing you actually want to purchase (at least for cheaper items), in world of tanks there at least is no such fee for mobile payment
    The game used to be neat little game, even though it's ads were annoying, but this game lost it's charm over time.

    Fun for a free casual tank simulation multiplayer game.
    I've been casual playing tanks only for about one years so I did not review planes or ship battles or competitive matches.
    Matches are fast, many maps, many tanks, many players, good visuals, low waiting cue, amost no trolls in chat, good sound , it didn't feel like a pay to win game because at ages 1 and 2 and 3 I didn't find many    Fun for a free casual tank simulation multiplayer game.
    I've been casual playing tanks only for about one years so I did not review planes or ship battles or competitive matches.
    Matches are fast, many maps, many tanks, many players, good visuals, low waiting cue, amost no trolls in chat, good sound , it didn't feel like a pay to win game because at ages 1 and 2 and 3 I didn't find many pay to win enemies...to sum it up I have been able to play some games in one hour after work without too much hassle.
    I strongly recommend playing realistic battle over arcade ones
    Negative aspects are: mandatory game updater software that is invase and tricky to uninstall..i didn't like it ...if you search for it in online game store and forum you will read some comment about privacy issues with this ; some minor bug that hasn't been fixed in ages ; lot's of spawn campers...developers need a better way to prevent it ; repairing time and prices of age 3 (and up) tanks are very expensive...and that limit replayability in a single session ; steep learining curve ...it is not a new player friendly game so it is not easy to invite new players: for example maps knowledge and enemy tank armour knowledge weights a lot more than personal control ability or strategic thinking skills....so when netmatching force you to play against players with hundred of hours of play on their back you will be at serious disadvantage...a little frustraing at first.
    The game seems a little rough compared to others online game from AAA developers but it is a good game.; I'm a modeller so part of the fun comes in "collecting" various tanks form ww2 if you didn't like this aspect lower my review score by one or two points.    … Expand

    - You Pay to win. If you pay for a plane or a tank you get a better tank or plane than the one you can research. A lot of players have premium vehicules!

    Visuals are great. Aircraft modelling is good. Handling of the aircraft is realistic enough to present challenges, but not so complex to be unmanageable for a new player.

    The historical aspect of the game is sadly lacking. When one hears the term "realistic battles" one expects to see aircraft operating in their specific theatres against their historical opponents. Realism is not Japanese and German planes flying side by side over European maps, or facing Russians in your Spitfire or indeed "mixed" battles with all nations side by side. There is a specific, simplified mode for this type of battle in the game, "Arcade mode" yet it seems arcade mode has crept into the realistic and is there to stay.

    Team balance, seems to be a major issue. I play all factions with decent k/d ratio and consistent wins in Axis aircraft. In fact it seems very hard to lose as an Axis player in most tiers. The substantial diference in climb rates for US aircraft to axis doesn't lend to an equal footing for air combat. This is more than a simple "sideclimb more" issue. I'd suggest an airspawn for more allied fighters, as it appears a large portion of players on the allied teams simply don't bother trying, knowing they won't get any form of altitude or energy advantage. Makes it hard when you are the only person who does climb, you watch your team die, bag one or two then die yourself against 5-6 opponents. It also removes the fun from playing Axis. Essentially you are racing to get a kill before the entire allied team folds like origami. Like playing god mode, bit of a novelty for half an hour, then repetitive and annoying. Where is the challenge?

    IMO, this game is devolving rather than improving. Rather than address balance issues, it seems developers are more interested in marketing new aircraft tanks etc... than addressing some fundamental flaws in the game. I understand a large part of this is making the game profitable, but at the same time, players are departing for IL-2, DCS and other simulators.

    So much potential....squandered.    … Expand

    No balance, no maps, no gameplay, no fun, no customer support, no future. Just a grindfest, pay-to-win, tons of bugs. Waste of time, even if you invest 1000hrs, you won't unlock even 1 nation.

    In stark contrast, there is arcade mode, which is an absurd hodge-podge of planes killing each other and exploding, which can be fun, but quickly it becomes apparent that there's not really any skill to be developed there, and it starts to pail in comparison to a more skill based or realistic experience.
    The game's flight mechanics and graphics are genuinely very good, but unfortunately the game is much more likely to leave you frustrated that you have to spend another 15 minutes waiting to be shot down immediately, or to not get any points for shooting down a plane because the pilot bailed out before you could seal the deal. It would be a truly great game if the devs came up with some new mission styles, or tried to bridge the gap between arcade and realistic modes, but it doesn't seem like they will. The main positive is that it's a free to play game, so you won't be out $60 unless you decide to try premium.
    All in all, the game just seems like a big waste of potential, and it has been around long enough to indicate that the devs likely won't be making any changes to the match making or gameplay, but are consistently and solely focused on adding more vehicles.
    I'm a lover of airplanes, and I truly wish I could give this game a better score, but I just find myself ending all of my matches either disappointed, frustrated, or both.    … Expand

    mensen zeggen dat het een goede wo2 simuator is op dat aspect doet het zn ding maar de mensen achter het spel willen al je geld uit je zuigen met microtransacties het verbaasd me dat dit spel niet door EA is gemaakt. ik weet dat het een free to play spel is maar als je kjkt naar andere spellen kun je ook gewoon skins of andere dingen die niet de gameplay of het progresie systeem beinvloeden.

    I am a level 91 general. Played this game a lot. Cursed it and loved it. After all this time,
    one single line about it : if you want the best tank game around , play this one.

Realistic offers . . . realistic physics, damage and fueling models into the game play, the maps and oppositions are a bit fantasy though, i don't recall BF109's ever serving in the pacific. You must manage your engine and understand the attributes of both your own and enemy aircraft to have any chance of regular success in WT. The greater part of this is flying tactically, doing things like climbing to the side of a map rather than straight at you opposition. I see so many players going headlong at the enemy every game which tends to develop into a 50/50 proposition. By climbing and engaging who and when i choose that proposition becomes more like 70/30. Simple but true. Critics complain about the economy and grinding to get planes. I disagree. At early levels planes are easy to research and upgrade, what you should concentrate on is getting your crew stats up to maximum and then upgrading that crew to expert (free with xp points) or ace (paid gold lions). Then every subsequent airplane that crew uses already have a very proficient crew. I have fighter specific pilots, who fly nothing but fighters and bomber specific crews, as with bomber crews it is important to make sure your defensive gunnery positions are crewed and manned by experienced crew members. FYI - i have been playing this game for years and have almost every plane for every air-force in the game. High rank planes and Jets take much longer to acquire, but so they should. Best fighter IMHO is the MkiX Spitfire, a little weak on armament compared to others but will literally fly circles around anything. Best light/medium bomber is the JU88A. This thing will outrun almost every enemy fighter with ease. It can dive at speeds up-to 680kph before structural failure, well beyond what any pursuing fighters can handle. It has air-brakes so you can do this vertically, also great for dive bombing and high approach speed landings. It also has enough bombs to take out 3 bases by itself or create havoc on ground forces with 2 x 500kg and 28 x 50kg payload. Just fly along a road a convoy is taking and pump out 50kg bombs, don't aim with the bomb recticle, just do it by feel, after a few attempts you will see what i mean. 10+ AI kills in one pass is common for me. The JU88 can also take a ton of damage an just keep going. I have flow halfway across the map at low level with both engines smoking and in the red-line for the whole journey on more than one occasion. My biggest critique and probably the most talked about fault of the game is the match making, where the game selects your opponents based on their and your BR (Battle Rating). It is just a fact that sometimes you do find yourself faced with far superior machinery, but this is realistic and that did happen. Fly to your strengths and only engage when you have the advantage, there's nothing so good as a Rank Does Not Matter award at the end of a battle. There will be times when YOU are the far superior aircraft. I remember spawning in my Meteor and was the only jet in the game and i was shot down by an F8F Bearcat when i was landing. If you are struggling to win, play tactically or join a squadron, its easier when a team co-ordinates it's actions. If you are new to realistic, learn to land as you will need to re-arm, refuel and repair at least once per mission in most fighters. Also learn to land on an aircraft carrier (imperative for Norway map Allied). If its not a carrier based plane with no tail hook land at 180kph, flaps down gear up. every plane in the game has very different flight and performance characteristics, spend alot of time in your favorites to master them and a little time in the planes you predominately fight against so you will know their strengths and weaknesses.     Lions. When you've already got the amount of exp to get a tank, you need to win so much more to get the lions to buy this tank. You do not like it? Pay for it.

    Aircraft are allowed to participate in tank battles. They get more for killing and for them the game gives more lions. I thought then that I go into the tank mode of the game, but it turned out to be a mistake.

    I'm not talking about airplanes, because I've played enough in this mode, and the game on them is not very interesting. Also in aircraft mode very much decides the amount of money invested in the game.     I used to love this game,, great graphics and realistic aircraft and good dog fights.. but some how its become a game called Pilot knocked out coz thats all that happens,, its like a game with a constant bug. Game play is ruined by unrealistic kills and you spend most of the time just trying to fly to the enemy. Pointless. was once a good game and now belongs in the dustbin of annoyance.

    Played since 2013 and the game used to be fun until arround mid 2015. Then it just went downhill. **** up of plane hit registry, insane grind, adding stuff instead of fixing it. Not recommended, stay away from this.

    Great battle mechanics, gameplay, realism.

    Personally I enjoyed playing arcade most of the time. The quick but fun battles are great. If you'd rather have uber realism then go into simulation mode. It is a pain in the *** but well worth it.

    You can play for free until rank 3, those are T-34-85 and Tiger 1. Then vehicle repair cost becomes very high and you have to pay to keep playing.
    So basically you are not allowed to play M1 Abrams, Leopard 2K and T-64B for free. Which makes this game stupid.

    I've been playing since mid-2014 and have found the best way to play is to play both air and ground forces of at least 3 nations and also to play cooperatively in a squad with others which increases your chances of survival and victory dramatically.

    Recently, the most exciting news besides the addition of naval battles and world war mode, is that War Thunder is not a WW2 or 1950s era game any more. If you play a country like the US for example, it's virtually a guarantee that 90% of your team will die a pointless death within the first 10 minutes of the match, leaving you alone as the soul player who played to your air-crafts strength (in this case boom & zoom combat) trying to compete with 10-15 enemy aircraft left alive. Put short, the game is only balanced when the players of each nation have above average skill levels. If the teams are average or worse (80% of matches) the nation with the best maneuverability or climb rate will win. Not even a skilled player can beat 10 other aircraft that are all after him reliably and so no matter how well you fly, you are completely reliant on your team performance. This also works both ways, if you get lucky and have a decent team, the enemy team will all die in minutes leaving 10 aircraft to chase a single enemy. Put frankly, matches are black and white, they rarely if ever wind up being close. It's almost always a total wipe out or a crushing victory, and that is impossible to predict and has nothing to do with how you fly.
    The game has also begun to become pay to win, there are now premium aircraft that are flat out better or have an unfair advantage (such as a higher spawn altitude) than their non premium versions.
    If you must play warthunder, stick to solo play or custom missions with friends. The Moba aspect of the game is hopelessly unbalanced and has next to nothing to do with skill.    … Expand

    As tank simulator you'd better never start playing this **** Forget mighty Tiger, soviet t-34-85 will oneshot you from any side, but you will not with your 88mm. If you not donate for premium acc - prepair to get a lot of pain in battles with tougher tanks you just not able to penetrate their armor.

    The Trojan it installs on your machine is called Gaijin.net . It enables itself w/o permission to start when you start your computer. It is a known problem if you google search it before getting the game and you will see the moderators act like you can just disable a check box and it will go away then they lock the forum thread to keep people from talking about it.

    So I unchecked the box they suggested, rebooted and it didn't work.

    I followed that by unchecking ALL the boxes on that page, but that also didn't work.

    I finally uninstalled the game because of it. After doing that I rebooted to find it still there loading up when computer starts. StILL THERE AFTER UNINSTALLING GAME, think about that for a second.

    I then had to turn on "see hidden files and folders" then go manually find it and delete that folder. And even after that, and to this day it is still on my brand new computer hiding somewhere inside my windows 10. Even had a guy from Microsoft using remote access and controlling my computer and he couldn't find where its hiding. Best I could do in the end is Win key + R, then msconfig and disable it from starting up when computer does.

After a few updates, it got unplayable. There are some overpowered tanks that one-shot you no matter what tank you have and also everything got much more harder to achieve.     I will start by saying: I made a metacritic account for the sole purpose of commenting on this game. This should tell you a bit about how strongly I feel about this game.

    Not only that, but the developers are clearly ridiculously nationalistically biased: their russian KV-1 and T-34 tanks are nigh invulnerable. I have recently discovered that the Tiger IE is SIGNIFICANTLY easier to kill in-game than either of these soviet cheat machines. The in-game garage claims the Tiger has 102mm un-sloped front glacis armor for an effective thickness of about 104mm, while the T-34 has 45mm armor sloped at 60 degrees for an effective thickness of about 78mm. IN-GAME stats tell you the T-34 SHOULD be easier to penetrate. This is a filthy lie. In actual combat experience, I have found that not only is the Tiger easier to penetrate there, but the T-34 lower side plates (a measly 45mm without slope for a mere 45mm effective thickness) are immune to square-on shots from the side at literally zero distance from shots with (allegedly) 145mm penetration value, bouncing about 90% of even those shots. The in-game stats tell you everything is "realistic" and should be fine. The in-game stats displayed to the players are lies. From dozens, if not hundreds of in-game experiences, I have found that shells that are rated at 145mm penetration at 100m range cannot penetrate the "45mm" lower side armor of the T-34 when the barrel it literally touching the T-34.

    Worse, the Tiger is a Battle Rating 5.7 that costs 250,000 in-game credits (IE, tons of grinding), while the T-34 is a Battle Rating 3.3 that costs a mere 10,000 in-game credits. This is where it is worth explaining Battle Rating. BR is used in-game for match making. In theory, the BR is a numerical representation of overall effectiveness, and is theoretically used to build balanced fights in-game. This is a dirty lie. Remember how the T-34 is a BR 3.3 while the Tiger is a BR 5.7? This means the T-34 is not only more powerful than the Tiger, but it gets to fight far weaker opponents than the does the Tiger.

    This same trend repeats with the soviet BT light tanks and KV heavy tanks. Everything soviet has grossly over-performing stats for the Battle Rating and price they are assigned, so they get to pretty much baby-seal-club everyone else.

    If you want to play as soviets, you'll have a good time (assuming you enjoy tedious, repetitive gameplay where no skill is required of you because you are literally immune to 95% of what your foe can throw at you), but if you want to play any other nationality it is a massive exercise in frustration.

    The folks that complain about "russian bias" are not just butthurt because they lost a match. They are frustrated because, while they might write off as bad luck a few weird occasions of shells bouncing off targets they should kill, when they notice that the russian T-34 and KV tanks consistently, over hundreds of examples, bounce everything thrown at them, they know there is a balance issue. Particularly when they also notice how easily tanks that are supposedly much better armored die to the same weapons regardless of careful aiming for weak spots.

    Why did I give this a one star instead of zero stars? Two reasons: first, the game is beautiful (though frequently glitchy, including flickering textures). Second, the core mechanics of the game are excellent. It *COULD* be an excellent game, if only gaijin could be bothered to actually put some effort into balancing the game to make it enjoyable. Gaijin could literally turn this from a one-star game into an 8-star game in an hour- by simply removing every soviet tank. (of course, they could also go up to 8 stars if they *fixed* the soviet tanks, but that would take far longer than an hour).

    Great battle sim. The air combat is great and you really get the feel of the plane you are in from jets, bombers, to Japanese float planes. I confess I usually only play the tanks hoping I get enough points to bring out my p47 just to drop a couple 500 lbers on an unsuspecting tank. The AA in this game can be unforgiving if you get too close.

    It is not pay to play but you can run out of money if you don't manage it without a subscription. Doesn't last long but you can feel the pinch of upgrades if you suck (don't win much) and spend it all on upgrades. Maybe this just applies to me.
    There is an arcade mode but I never play it as the realism is why I wanted to play this. There is no getting hit and janking back to cover. If you get hit you die....or somebody does.     So unless you're a white whale gamer, who's looking to seal club new players, which seems to be the stable of Gaijins customers, look elsewhere for a tanking game, this is not it!    … Expand

    Awfully unbalanced game. Toxic community. Endless grind. Horrible mechanics: Shoot through terrain, long distance one shot kills (killed driving a Tiger II by inferior tank). Endless camp fest on some maps. Arcade mode is ridiculous, GTA V is a better "simulator" than this game.

    Don't to pay for it! You won't win either.
    Even better: stay away from this garbage made in Russia!

    Got hooked for a good few days, paid up got some cool planes, got hooked for a few weeks, saved and slogged for a Lancaster, got hooked for a few more days, then realised...holy cow this is boring.

    Play have some fun, but don't waste too much money on this one ;)

    The epitome of Russian bias against everyone but the Russian lines. The BR rating system is broken and the way you upgrade your vehicles depends solely on how much you pay and even then you don't have a guarantee of reaching the top. My advice, avoid this game at all cost.

    Broken damage system, a cheaters and an old bugs. With an each new patch, even worse.
    When I come here from the other popular tank game, I hope this is the hardcore, more realistic game, about oneshots, marksman skill, tactics.     The balance was never great, but now, when a WWII tanks fight against a Cold War beasts – its absolutely broken.
    The damage model in current state – is ridiculously unrealistic.
    That feeling, when you make direct hit with the soviet 122mm AP shell, and an enemy doesnt blow up sometimes… Often, only possible way to make a frag with the HEAT or the APDS – looong killing crew, man by man.

    And of course, an old bugs doesnt fixes, many cheaters in the game, but when you tell about it, you just get a ban, hard to play without donate at a top tier... Each new patch just add a new models, and a stupid changes, developers doesnt listen community and do not make the game better, do not improve the gameplay, just make a money.

    One of the cornerstones of War Thunder is that player’s skill is more important than his wallet. Premium vehicles offer no combat advantages, there is no “microtransaction-only” ammo or consumables, so no amount of cash will buy you a spot on the top of the food chain. [Issue#216, p.56]

    The official launch of War Thunder reminded me why I like this game so much. It's adorably chaotic - in contrast to the reliably designed World of Tanks. That's why it can be really fun and frustrating at the same time. There's tons of great vehicles (and the planes are superb!) and a difficult simulation mode, but there are also balance and technical issues.
