    While overall the game itself can be a lot of fun, without paying for premium you'll quickly be basically unable to progress as Gaijin is making the time needed to progress longer and longer. But not only this, even with premium you more or less have to buy premium vehicles too cause otherwise you won't earn enough ingame currency to even keep playing the game. Considering that higher tiered Premiums cost more then full AAA titles and you basically needing several of these if you want to play different nations reliably, the Gaijin tries to force you more and more to pay large sums of money to be able to enjoy the game. Complains by the community are getting ignored and changes are only made to make the situation worse and worse.

    Balancing
    Overall, the game is kinda balanced, but playing it you'll experience and notice certain vehicles for certain nations are being quite a bit favoured by the developers, some vehicles being too weak for what they encounter, some vehicles definitely being too strong. Then there is also the fact that pretty much all vehicles when initially researched are not really capable to compete with its counter parts as they come stock. Crucial components being locked till you either pay real money to unlock them, or by grinding the vehicle. High tier planes being hurt the most from this approach as all enemies will have Anti Air Missiles and you not having flares to counter these as you have to research them first.

    Map design
    I can only assume its made by the unpaid intern. Some maps are cool, a lot are complete **** Especially so considering that some maps are impossible to be properly played on certain tiers, but Gaijin doesn't care, limiting certain maps to certain tiers is too hard for them I guess.

    So yeah tl.dr.:
    Gaijin keeps making the grind harder and harder so that even just having a premium account is not enough any more.
    Balancing is often based on made up lies without any transparency on actual statistics.
    Maps are often a complete joke. (Getting killed in spawn from the enemies spawn and vice versa)
    Bugs and Bug reports are regularly being ignored or dismissed.
    Certain cosmetics are giving you a unfair advantage and Gaijin is refusing to fix this issue.

    If you wanna play the game, go for it, but I suggest not to pay any money on the game till Gaijin actually starts fixing these issues.    … Expand

The developers will tell you they deserve more because monetization, but they've been doing amazingly well since the player boom from the pandemic, and lots of newbies giving out free high reviews, this is not what the game actually looks like, or is even after say, 10-20 hours of playing. (and you will be playing a lot if you want even a low rank vehicle)

    To anyone reading about this for the first time, tread carefully since this game is addictive, and soul crushing. The monopoly it holds in this genre is astounding, and the developers refuse to admit their fault when it comes to handling the game by "using statistics over years" over actually playing the game or listening to players.     So that's it, I'd you asked me about this game 3 years ago I'd say that it's a dream for a military enthusiasts, although grind was a bit hard but manageable, but as of now things changed, through years of constant developers' greed the game is in almost unplayable state for any new player, and even veterans have hard time enjoying it. Until situation improves I advise against playing this game.

    A brilliant game with immense possibily ruined by greedy developers. WT couldve been a great game but its nothing more than a chore. You have to work your ass off just to be able to playe the vehicles you own. Thats ofc considering that you have actually managed to grind your life off getting that said vehicle.

    War Thunder, although advertised as a free to play game, actually is a clearly pay to win game. Repair costs which make you need to pay real money to get in-game funds, as the match rewards are inadequate. Gaijin manipulates its player base into paying more and more money. Don't get this game for your own sake.

    I guess I like it. I spend some time in the game (around 50 hours) and I like it so far. The graphics are good, not even close to bad and the physics are decent too. Of course they can make the game a bit more realistic or better balanced, but I think it's pretty good as it is of now.

    Also, more of a personal thing: Why the **** are there so many 0 ratings? Like, at least play the game    I guess I like it. I spend some time in the game (around 50 hours) and I like it so far. We can agree that this is a ww2 game. So there should be no supersonic jets and modern tanks.     The game will give a boner to any war machine nerd out there but it gets incredibly tedious thanks to the research system and toxic community, it's a game to only hop on casually with friends rather than one where you should dump hundreds of hours to unlock a level 6 tank

    If you don't have premium, you will spend too much time on this game. Very tilting game when you get killed cross map through bushes. When gaijin gives you ghost shell and when the game randomly kicks you out or you get packet loss and pay 15k repair cost and get crew locked. In conclusion, recommended.

    What's the Point Of Grinding when You can just Buy Top tier vehicles for 60 Dollars? The Game Tries to make you spend money on it at every turn. If you want to Grind the Game Without Buying Premiums It might take years to do 1 Tech tree. And if you do Buy Premium you can only hope The Developers won't Nerf it to the ground for it to be Unusable.

    игра подарила незабываемые эмоции. и вспоминая тот день, когда я покинул мой дом и уехал жить к бабушке, не понимая что будет дальше, при этом запуская эту игру и уходя из реальности ненадолго. помню ту атмосферу, вкус того кофе, ту прекрасную зиму которую я никогда не забуду. новый класс, друзья. жаль что это всё так быстро закончилось. очень жаль.игра подарила незабываемые эмоции. и вспоминая тот день, когда я покинул мой дом и уехал жить к бабушке, не понимая что будет дальше, при этом запуская эту игру и уходя из реальности ненадолго. помню ту атмосферу, вкус того кофе, ту прекрасную зиму которую я никогда не забуду. новый класс, друзья. жаль что это всё так быстро закончилось. очень жаль.

Когда пуля может рикошетом пробить 200мм, когда кумулятивная струя может рекогетить 7 раз подряд. Когда самолет может танкануть 85мм снаряд. Когда легкий танк не проживается 152мм    Игру пока не за что хвалить. Рост буду обновлять в зависимости от игры.
    Игра в ОБТ (открытом бета тестировании) огромное количество времени. Багованных моментов тут уйма, в простонародье "Тундра момент". Когда пуля может рикошетом пробить 200мм, когда кумулятивная струя может рекогетить 7 раз подряд. Когда самолет может танкануть 85мм снаряд. Когда легкий танк не проживается 152мм бронебрйным снарядом в борт. Это все ошибки да, но отсутствие нормального баланса и убийство старого, который как то езе может жить - серьёзная ошибка. Когда КВ 1 Л 11 попадает к Пантерам и Тигрм 2 это очень "весело". Боев нормалтных тут не найти. Не бывает отличных потных каток. Будет или адская казнь, когда в вашей команде все новички, а во вражеской опытные игроки. Или на оборот, враги тупые а вы уже за 3 минуты закончили игру. Невозможно так играть.     Мы вечно испытываем боль от тиммейта к примеру из Англии которому даёшь инфу и он вместо того чтобы понять пишет ингеаш плеазе (ну не тупые ли?) Самый лучший вариант играть в эту игру это играть без чата и без тиммейтов тогда игра будет не помойкой    Игра ужасна как по логике так и по комьюнити

    I spent years in this cancer. An endless grind. They don't listen to the community. Ghost shells that they supposedly fixed but didn't. Absolutely horrible maps. CTRL CTRL V vehicles. Scam loot boxes.     -Horrible in-game economy that punishes players with poor match performances with lost of in-game currency (Sliver Lions) due to repair cost of vehicles that just get higher and higher the further up the tech tree you go. If you buy GL you can buy SL, if you buy Perm Account you get more SL after a match (even then you can still lose SL), buy a Perm Vehicle if gives you a boost in SL earned. The **** wine/lose reward system incentive using real game money to be able to play the game on constant bases even with a few poor match here and there. If you run out SL you can't repair vehicles after match and have to wait X amount real world days for those vehicles to be repaired.
    -A Company that say their listening but really doesn't; numerous issue with the game that players have been preaching about for YEARS from the forums to reddit to YouTube.

    Then they "fix" the game for a week or two, they fix the bugs they want, "smaller" ones they see as non esential linger for longer if not for ever as some trademark or something....

    Now lets dive into their "coding"
    Match maker is a joke, one fight you get a steamroll team where you look at the enemy tank and before you fire or just as you fired some of "maniacs" in your team kills it
    Other option is epic fail team, that has 15 kills (5-10 usually mine) and 12 tickets left, yday i had a "privilege" of being in air realistic with 3 epic bots, got one kill in unaviodable headon and died after doing some ground targets, so im spectating 3 "team mates" and one enemy bomber circling around his airfield
    All this bots should have done is pick of ground targets to get the ticket lead but that one bomber won after 10 minutes of pathethic bots insulting him for "airfield camping"
    Comunity is mostly, plane and simple, retarded, learning curve of a dead stone (i know stones cant be alive but i like to emphasize) on the bottom of a lake...
    Gaijins fault, because its their game, and they failed miserably at geting new players to learn the game through decent tutorial, famous youtubers make things worse with dumbass oversimplified advices
    Further more, the "toxicity" of some players is simply logical, if you consider how annoying the game can be, so basicly, gaijin makes a p.o.s. game that annoys the hell out of people, and than all of a sudden people are toxic without any reason (i know its not cool but lets face it, if your pissed off because you wasted 500 bulets from couple guns on a bot player that is flying straight after your bomber without even trying to dodge the bullets only to get couple hits and maybe a crit just to get killed by that persistant bot you will sooner or later call him a retarded monkey...)
    Tutorial in the game is teaching players wsad left right klick, basic driving and shooting, in a game that can have 50% of the keyboard keybinded with something usefull.....
    God forbid they explain stuff like flanking or cooperation, helping team mates in need of fliping over after bomb blast fliped them if they were lucky enough to survive...
    Air realistic with a bomber is a nice example how stupid game can be, instead of telling people how much bombs of what "caliber" they need to take down a base you are left out there to guess, and since i stated that thing about learning curve all you can see is how people are dive charging the closest base and droping all they can on the base and quite often dying in the next min or two...
    In a real war, pilot gets his mission, 99% of the cases in great detail....
    It is also very "heart warming" when a patch changes the base hp, and they tell you they changed the base hp, but they dont say from what hp to what hp....
    Hitboxes
    I would dare to say that hitbox is the single most important part of shooter game, so there you are, waiting behind a cover of some building rubble for a "rabbit" that will probably try and zoom into uncaped base over the clearing, you see one, you smile, 250m away, clean side shoot with 90% chance of one shoot, pop out of cover, shoot, and hit the rubble....that is shown to be 0.5m left of your barrel when you look at it.....
    Or you are flying low 5-10 meters over the buildings, just to hit a rooftop, that is shown to be atleast 5m bellow you....
    Maybe some invisible alien satelite dish...
    This was just two examples from two maps in two game mods
    There is also naval
    Where people charge a ship with their airplane, flying straight at the ship, not trying to avoid the bullets, out of 20x2x20mms, plus couple 40mms, 4-5 100mm secundary guns with proximity shells, just so you can get a plane kill just as he droped a bomb on you and killed you, because science times number of bullets divided by that bot not avoiding.....
    They basicly took pure math game (penetration minus armour equals pen or no pen) and they added some "x factor" in it

    And after all said they charge 30-40-50-60 euros per tank/plane/ship (ofc there is around 100 or even more premiums available)

    I've been playing this for more than 5 years and it took me a year or two to feel that I am getting competitive. I never bought any packs, I just played the events and sometimes sold the materials/vehicles I don't need to buy some premium account time. So don't expect to learn the game right away as it is quite unforgiving. However, the joy in this game is in the learning process, and being able to try out new tactics using different historical vehicles.

    If you want to enjoy the game especially the top-tier modern stuff, prepare for the long haul as jumping right in using premiums without prior experience at that tier will just make you suffer.

    Overall it's a great game with an okay monetization model. For new players please play arcade first to get a feel then slowly try out realistic mode at around BR 3.7. And remember that the community highly values Realistic Battle (RB game mode) experience compared to Arcade (AB). That is because Arcade has a slightly different balancing compared to RB. Also worry not about the ping as long as it is not in the red you'll be fine. This game is not an FPS that needs a fast connection to get an edge. Tactics, vehicle speed, and positioning is the way of the game. Maps are large, tanks are slow, and shots arc over distance so you're internet connection should be able to handle it as long as you're not in the red.    … Expand

    This game is an incredible masterpiece of a game. It certainly has its many cons, and almost any player will have their complaints; yet everyone keeps coming back to play more. Playing with friends makes the experience even better, from the lowest tier and higher. I'll admit, the grind for    *Disclaimer* I have almost 1000 hours of in-match time and have spent some money on this game.

    This game is an incredible masterpiece of a game. It certainly has its many cons, and almost any player will have their complaints; yet everyone keeps coming back to play more. Playing with friends makes the experience even better, from the lowest tier and higher. I'll admit, the grind for new vehicles and progress can be frustrating and slow at times, but when you're able to just focus on the gameplay itself, and the fun you have, then the experience is so much better. Let the grind take a backseat and play the game lightheartedly, and you'll enjoy yourself!

    Overall, please give this game a try, convince some of your friends to join you in this experience, and overall just have a blast. I hope this helped

    The gameplay in matches are not pay2win but there are many systems in place such as the research system that is deliberately slowed too create draw toward paying money for premium time and premium vehicles. Grinding to the top is totally manageable without spending any money but will take along time and might get frustrating. With continues updates and new content being added throwing the developers some money for premium time/vehicles is totally worth it.

The servers are however garbage except the EU servers and there are some very big bugs. That get "fixed" every 2 weeks but you are still able to encounter them. The Its fixed patches were a huge joke until the last month. Progressing without paying at least 20 bucks on the new years sale on a 180 day premium account is not impossible but really hard. After around Tier 3 you will suffer the enormus Silver lion (ingame base currency) and RP (Research Points) that you will need to earn.
    The game is hard, a lot of players are toxic a**holes, if you ask someone how to play a specific vehicle they will say "if you cant play the XY then simply dont play it". But go on r/WarThunder and they will help you out.
    Dont buy top tier premiums with nearly 0 experience because you will suffer. I play the game since 2013 and I still dont know how to play the Mustangs.    … Expand

    Bet war simulator out there. Modern tanks planes helis i one battle with true to life fizicks, sounds and apierence. Can run on a potato and can make look beutiful on powerful PC and consol. Been playing for 8 years now and will continiue.

    If you're going to use somebody else's review to decide whether you play or not then you're going based on somebody else's opinion that could be bad internet bad computer so on. I strongly suggest you give it a try start with the arcade mode, then try out realistic, then try out sim, try the different vehicle lines see which ones you like.


    It truly is a very enjoyable game to play for me at least.


    My only con is the grind is pretty hard to get the end line vehicles, but it is enjoyable.    … Expand

    With this game the developers set out to make a game where the way vehicles take damage is as realistic as possible. With the aircraft they did a pretty good job I think. But with the tanks they completely **** failed.

    In real life, for the most part, one shell punching through the armor of a tank is enough to disable it. At least in my experience this is not the case in this game. I noticed this early on in my playing of the game so it definitely is not a one time thing, but my memory is bad so Im only going to give the example that is freshest in my mind.

    I am playing as an M3 Lee medium tank, It has a 75mm gun in the hull and a 37mm in the turret. I start to cross a bridge but notice an enemy on the other side, so i reverse off the bridge and set up an ambush for the enemy. The enemy comes to me, not noticing that it has fallen right into my trap. I open fire with both cannons. it is some kind of light vehicle armed with machine guns. Due to this enemy's light armor my shells have no problem penetrating into the tank. At this point, the enemy tank, that should be dead, rotates its turret in my direction and starts shooting me with machine guns. In total I put 2 or 3 75mm shells into this thing, and 3 or 4 37mm shells into it. needless to say, this thing should me dead, but somehow, using its machine guns it manages to destroy me.    … Expand

The game is not that hard to hack or cheat in small ways like say making your ammunition ignore collision with objects making it possible to shoot through rocks, terrain, and buildings that normal players cant shoot through in tank realistic mode, I have seen about 3 of these in a single day. There are many many bugs that Gaijin refuses to patch or fix, the maps are just outright awful. They keep taking away things that used to be free or awesome features from players, for example it used to be possible to paint your entire biplane red. Not only have they removed that feature but removed the players paintjobs they (when it was a thing) spent hours painstakingly making it just right why?? Because the Gaijin devs according to what they told me, quote "realized they could just charge people for it and then remove it". This game was very fun back in like 2015 or so, every few years I come back to see if Gaijin finally improved things, but the reality is it just gets worse every time. Avoid this game! I imagine everyone would avoid it if there was a game that filled in the niche better.… Expand

While playing tnaks there is a chance to kill an enemy wo is way more better than u. But in the Skys of fck Thunder is no skill. There are only planes, fliying great circles all the time and the vehicle with the better stats is winning. One is the other mayor problems is getting new vehicles. At the end of the round u will get the Money (Silverlions [SL]), But u have to pay repair costs. An example: I am playing the 4.0 Battlerating BF109 F4. Most of the time i dont kill anything but sometimes i kill someone. Without boosters this will give u 2000SL. When u are unlucky and u are get shot down without a second kill. They u have to pay 4000SL for the repairing and in the case of that u will lose money every battle. I played airplanes a couple of days. before i started o had 70000SL, after playing some days i only got 30000SL left. Because this nowadays its about grinding. Getting modern tanks an planes is impossible becasue ??? (idk ASK GAIJIN). The game is getting worse with every new update and every single day of the excisting of it self.

    There are still very nice graphics and sometimes realistic ballistics, but that's not enough to make a good game.
    It's really sad, because War Thunder has elements that could make it a real gold nugget.

    The game is decently fun with good graphics (DLSS seems not to work very well, though). The grind to upgrade vehicles and equipment is way too hard.

Features are released in half baked states and the publisher actively implements harmful mechanics which are designed to make the game more frustration to play.     This game has beautiful graphics, the gameplay is great, and playing on realistic or simulator, is very challenging. Overall, this game aged very well.

    Because the jets are so expensive it take literally months to earn 1 jet and months to get all the mods. So people ignore the objective and concentrate on getting the most kills - sometimes shooting through allies to get a kill. In essence Great game/Awful Developers and community.     I've been stuck 600k now for ages. so whilst a might have a couple of good games if I have a few bad games I basically don't advance. SO even in a few years where I earn enough research points to get a new T5 plane I sure as hell wont be able to afford it. Well Done Gaijin; you turned a pretty good game into a grind fest that really isnt worth playing anymore.    … Expand

    One of the cornerstones of War Thunder is that player’s skill is more important than his wallet. Premium vehicles offer no combat advantages, there is no “microtransaction-only” ammo or consumables, so no amount of cash will buy you a spot on the top of the food chain. [Issue#216, p.56]

    The official launch of War Thunder reminded me why I like this game so much. It's adorably chaotic - in contrast to the reliably designed World of Tanks. That's why it can be really fun and frustrating at the same time. There's tons of great vehicles (and the planes are superb!) and a difficult simulation mode, but there are also balance and technical issues.
