    War thunder is genuinely a great game. With well designed models of the machines of War and cooperative online battles it would be criminal to assume that the game won't do good. However there is one major flag with this game that the community cam no longer bear. And that is the blatant disregard for the players time and community well being. Gaijin entertainment has proven they are outWar thunder is genuinely a great game. However there is one major flag with this game that the community cam no longer bear. And that is the blatant disregard for the players time and community well being. Gaijin entertainment has proven they are out of touch with the community by continues making one of the most complaint problem in the game even worse, the ingame economy. In war thunder you progress with Silver Lions and Research Points. You will receive RP (Research points) and SL (Silver Lions) through in game activities such as getting a kill, an assist, capturing the objective, hitting enemies and critically hitting enemies. Its easy to get the in game currency in war thunder however the amount you earn is what is the issue. In later tiers you have to start worrying about the repair cost of a vehicle you use, the repair cost being the SL you have to spend to repair your vehicle to be able to use it again in your next game. There are some vehicles in this game that are not worth using because of the risk of loosing the money you made in the one game because you were destroyed in that very expensive vehicle. So your progression is bound to stagnate. There is a premium currency as well called Golden Eagles. Now GE (Golden Eagles) can be used to purchase premium vehicles, cosmetics, loot boxes, crew slots, Crew XP, Modifications, SL, convertible RP, Event Missions, the Battlepass... you get my point. GE is not easy to obtain as a F2P player as the only way you get them is via login bonus rewards or Golden wagers. Wagers in this game is very difficult to complete as you're tasked with needing to score a ridiculous amount of kills 10 times in a row without failing 3 times to receive the maximum reward. Those are standard SL wagers. The premium wagers are setup to make you fail with the neigh on impossible requirements to get the wager completed.

    The in game economy recently got scuffed further with another update to it that nobody in the community wanted. Some vehicles were given a better SL reward to loss ratio but for the majority of the affected vehicles it was made worse. The community complained on the forums and on reddit to no avail.

    The community has no rallied against Gaijin entertainment with the demands to fix the economy. Only then will they stop review bombing War Thunder. Clock is Ticking Gaijin. I still love this game but if you value your time and sanity do not play this game as it will suck you and your wallet dry in the current state that it is in.    … Expand

    You don't get points for taking off/landing anymore. You don't get points for being in combat/dogfight with ennemies around you anymore. You don't get points for ricochets anymore. You don't get the daily x5 anymore.     They added a soft lock to how much gains you could make in a single mission.

    They removed gold rewards for completing tutorials
    They removed gold wagers
    They decreased gains from victories from 20% and added 20% to losses (this is bad for anying with a positive win ratio)
    They gutted sim rewards
    They gutted the rewards linked to activity in battle
    They ruined helicopter EC and made them even harder to grind
    Made assists overall harder to get
    The battle passes have 3 vehicles instead of 4, you can't just sell the first vehicles anymore without having to grind even more.    … Expand

    It was a fun, excellent game. There is a high possibility of development. However, Gaijin's anti-gamer behavior, unethical, miserable, disastrous, despondent, hopeless, selfish, discriminatory, shameful and hopeless operating methods are increasingly destroying the original value of the game.     The economy is horrible, the grind is endless, half of the games mechanics don't function properly, and you're basically forced to buy a premium subscription plus a premium vehicle just to progress at a barely tolerable rate.

    Dev team became greedy and tried to milk their already too-forgiving player base even further than they've already had, If you wanted to enjoy war thunder, build a time machine and travel back to when ground battles were first added, or even further back and go back to when it first came out.

    There is a very good game to be found here, providing an experience unlike any of its peers. Unfortunately that game is buried by devs who act seemingly to harm the community, doing their best to make the game less fun and more frustrating. They are also constantly adding new monetization methods to the game at increasing costs, whilst also providing less for the money you pay. Not to mention they do their best to gaslight the playerbase, telling them that the changes they are making are good and that the playerbase should be happy, whilst it is clear to everyone it is the exact opposite.

    They have also previously given the community the option to pick what they would like the new end of match reward multiplier to be for a win/loss, however both options resulted in a net loss of rewards for the playerbase. Then when critiqued about this decision, they constantly blame the community for the loss of rewards, saying it is what they chose, when no matter the outcome, the rewards were to be lower.

    War Thunder has serious potential, too bad Gaijin would rather squander it in favor of making a quick buck.    … Expand

If you knock down your opponent, you get 2,000, but if you fall, you lose 10,000. If you want to make money, you have to knock down five people like you to make money. But the developer thinks it's normal to get 1,000 silver and lose 15,000 silver with the new update. Bugs left and right, basically terrible game. If you're a new player who wants to play it, please don't. It really isn't worth the mental trouble this game gonna make you go through.     I genuinely want to be able to recommend this game, the graphics are nice, and there is no other game like it, but it just feels like every update they want to make things worse for you, the grind gets worse and worse, money rewards go down, prices keep going up. It's like the game wants to make you hate playing it.

    For those that are new to the game and looking for a great game about tanks and planes (excluding helicopters and naval because those are ass), War Thunder is not for you at the moment. The economy is so bad that you NEED to be a god-like player to play and gain. For now just look the other way and wait for improvements.

It was a little pay to advance, but I was fine with it. after reading posts about how theyre tanking player advancements, i got a little worried. but since their recent changes, i am starting to regret the amount of money iveIve been playing this game for a little bit since 2013.     This is a game with great potential that has been made worse with each update. The grind is awful, and recent changes has made it even worse. You will have to spend hundreds of dollars to get the vehicles you are interested in and even then the grind will drive you crazy. The publisher has made it clear that it has no interest in making the game fun, so avoid it and spend your money elsewhere

    I use to love to play this game. I love military vehicles from all the eras covered, and the ones they keep adding to the game. BUT, it has become unplayable the last several years. The economy in this game is so broken. Unless you pay them real money for and advantage, there is no way to ever really break even in matches, especially in higher tiers.

    The grind to top tier tanks and planes are long, and when you reach the top, you realize being average is not sustainable. They make you pay an arm and a leg for dying, and give poor reward multipliers when you play well.

    It's a fun game with a lot of potential, but plagued by a mismanaged studio that actively antagonizes and gaslights its own playerbase. Not only is Gaijin ignoring all these for spending more development time on new overpowered russian premiums, they also keep dragging every player through the mud each time they touch the ingame economy. It's even worse, if you don't want to or simply can't spent any money on the game. If your interest lies in modern vehicles and you can't spare money, you shouldn't even think about touching it.

    Another thing is, the management and pr department of gaijin is just extremly arrogant, which is one of the reasons, why the current uproar even exists in it's form. Not only aren't they listing, they also think, that they have to explain what a free-2-play game is, while contradicting themselves in the said explanation.

    So, unless they have a honest change of heart, I can't recommend the game at all. It's pretty sad, because it has a lot of potential.    … Expand

I would say immersive but that's not the right word, but it's the best one I have for now. The game has turned into a schlop of greed and cheap additions. The developers no longer care for their original vision of the game, and they consistently go back and change their goals, or promises. They have made the in-game economy something that was roughly balanced, to a thing where if you are not spending money, you cannot progress at all.

    I will reiterate that seeing this game now feels exactly like looking at a dying relative, a relative who is dying not because of age, but of greed. It's painful, and it hurts. This game will never return to the days where you could feel immersed in it, it will never return to the days wherein it felt like things would change for the better, it will never return to the days that it had a soul.

    Best military sim game for casual gamers by far, but if you're not willing to pay an equivalent of a dozen AAA games, you're not going to enjoy it.
    Massive favoritism (10 nations but only 1-2 get true value for money), no listening to player feedback, and overall every textbook bad business practice.

    One of the cornerstones of War Thunder is that player’s skill is more important than his wallet. Premium vehicles offer no combat advantages, there is no “microtransaction-only” ammo or consumables, so no amount of cash will buy you a spot on the top of the food chain. [Issue#216, p.56]

    The official launch of War Thunder reminded me why I like this game so much. It's adorably chaotic - in contrast to the reliably designed World of Tanks. That's why it can be really fun and frustrating at the same time. There's tons of great vehicles (and the planes are superb!) and a difficult simulation mode, but there are also balance and technical issues.
