The spirit of the Trine has been restored! Trine 3 is the first game in the series that's in 3D. That's cool and all, but does it really matter? No. It's still the same awesome game, that the first part was. This one is definitely better than Trine 2 and the sh**ty dlc "Goblin Nickelback". Trine 3 gives us back the great puzzles of Trine 1. It features a lot of interesting enemies and ideas and the best level designs in the entire series. Sure, the rpg elements have been removed and the collectibles are easier to find, but that's nothing. What makes me happy here is that the Trine 1 spirit has been resurrected, there are no pointless secrets and chests filled with poems (I'm looking at you Trine 2), no irrational puzzles or goblins. Well, there are some goblins, but not for the entire game, which is a big relief! I would give this a 10/10, but the game is unfinished. The studio run out of funds and they just released what they were able to finish. This is just half of the game and it shows. It's short and the story ends abruptly with promises to be continued. But as far as I know there's no Trine 4 planned... which makes me quite sad. Once a strong series now decays, because of financial problems... this is sad. I hope this will be continued... I hope for Trine 3 Dlc or Trine 4... are they gonna do it? Time shall unveil. For now this is 8/10. Pickens approves! Expand

It takes a bit of time to get used to this 3d platform, but things quickly fall into place and you start to enjoy the different open areas. Big focus is still on puzzle solving and using different platforms to move forward. Graphics and soundtrack are just absolutely stellar.

The new mechanic of moving into depth is great. Now the game has become truly 3D, and not only 2D game with 3D graphics. However, it brings problems. The graphics, music and sound effects are great, and it seems like the the game engine used has improved because the game is faster and more responsive to controls than Trine 1 and Trine 2. It's a good sequel to the series. Worth playing. Expand

Trine 3 is a great game IMO. A great progression to 3d with you 3 favourite characters.
Personally I think the issues about length are not valid. 3 of the best games I've played with nVidia 3D Vision 2.
    Well done FrozenByte.

I can't believe this game has so many mixed reviews. People are criticizing the switch to 3D, but this is a delightful game and the 3D aspect is wonderfully done. Controling the heroes feels much easier, powers and skills pack more punch and have improved to be much simpler and more practical to use which makes gameplay all the more satisfying. Honestly, I like this one more than the previous Trine games.

Sure, it's a bit shorter than its predecessors, but it's better that being longer than necessary with filler content and for what it is it's extremely polished and well crafted. Combat may be a bit easy, but it suits the relaxing tone of the game. The lack of upgrades actually made it more enjoyable for me. Trine 2 had me frustratingly stacking boxes, jumping into every hole to make sure I don't miss a single XP just so I can get the upgrades which kind of distracted from actually enjoying the game and the upgrades themselves felt a bit flat.

I wish the devs hadn't received so much backlash for going 3D so they would've been motivated to further experiment and improve in this direction.

Trine 3 definitely feels shorter than 2 and 4, but was more enjoyable for me than the other parts. The graphics are great as usual. This part skipped the skill points part to improve your heroes, but instead they all have it from the beginning. The skippable quests could be removed in order to add some content to the main story.

In general - the same Trine, only in 3D. In details - it is MUCH shorter and essentially torn on "half the word" (if the memory does not change me, the creators justified it by the fact that they had ambitious plans but lacked a budget and had to curtail these plans). When I went through the game in 2015, in fact, it was interesting to go through this part, so I don’t want to put the “global dislike”. For the sake of completeness and meeting with your favorite heroes, I would advise you to play this game... but skipping this part you will not lose anything, since the Trine 4, as I read in news, will have nothing common with this game(about plot, not the characters).

“Measure thrice, cut once”, my shop class teacher used to say. It’s a shame no one told these words of wisdom to the guys from Frozenbyte. The addition of the third dimension turned out to be very costly, both literally (the game ends abruptly because the developers ran out of money) and figuratively (gameplay and puzzles are shallow in comparison to Trine 2). It’s not a bad game, it looks great, but it is a mediocre Trine. [11/2015, p.56]

Most if its initial problems of technical nature are now addressed and Trine 3 truly shines. It may be the shortest Trine to date, but its probably the most beautiful one.

Trine 3 is a game with a meaning for fans of the genre. You should not miss it if you count yourself into this group. But if you decide not to miss Trine 3 right now, or next year when Steam sales strike again, I leave it to your own personal preferences. [Issue#256]
