Thankfully, War for Cybertron impresses with an excellent single-player campaign with full co-op support, the included Horde-alike Escalation mode, and surprisingly deep and inventive online multiplayer component.
-
Transformers: War for Cybertron is an exciting game which allows you to experience the time before the films as one of three Decepticons or Autobots. You take part as an important member of Decepticons or Autobots and have to destroy a lot of Transformers shooting at them or hitting them with your melee weapon.
-
It's the first game I've played that nails the personality of the bots and it genuinely delivers a solid gaming experience alongside the nostalgia.
-
Transformers: War for Cybertron focuses on intense shooting action and sets the example for the Transformers-license. The story isn't really interesting, but gives you more fun and variation than you would expect. Add an excellent multiplayer mode tot the whole and you got a game that will drag you through these summer days.
-
After years of uninspired movie-licensed games, we finally get to run, fly and drive around with the Transformers and be happy about it. The lacking AI and unvaried fighting sections kill some of the fun, but the game does have a lot of redeeming factors and with a second player you'll feel right at home.
-
A little bit more polish could have made this game a blockbuster title.
-
PC Gamer UKWar for Cybertron is a respectable action game with a generous coating of awesome robots who turn into cars. [Sept 2010, p.92]
-
PC Zone UKA decent Transformers game, at last. [Oct 2010, p.78]
-
Transformers: War for Cybertron was set to be a great game. However, with the massive amounts of dropped matches and game crashes I experienced in multiplayer, it makes it a difficult game to really rely on and return to regularly.
-
Extensive single-player and co-op options as well as a deep online multiplayer experience means there's a lot of bang for the buck. However, the simple third-person shooter gameplay can get repetitive.
-
A Third Person Shooter with some gameplay innovations, a great atmosphere and full of action. Slightly simple in design of levels and repetitive mechanics, but fun.
-
The sound, except the voices (Peter Cullen is Optimus Prime, who else?), isn't remarkable either, so in the end the question boils down to: is War for Cybertron worth it? The answer is yes, but with some minuses, because there are plenty of problems ruining a nicely done story and the thrilling multiplayer is killed by technical hick-ups that shouldn't have been there in the first place.
