The new Trackmania builds itself on the best chapter of the franchise, laying the foundations for the future of the series.

Trackmania features deep mechanics that put accessibility first in addition to a nice variety of online and solo modes that compliment the title to better enhance both the gameplay and community. There’s plenty of free content that will entertain casual fans for months and paid options tailored to the more devoted veterans. All in all, for being part of such a niche franchise, this is a great entry that has a lot to offer.

Trackmania's thrilling speed and simplistic style make it an easily accessible racer that will thrive on a dedicated, creative community who have the patience to navigate its subscription model and basic menus.

Tremendously playable time trials with an extensive editor and a continuous supply of new challenges.

After almost twenty years, the Trackmania formula remains brilliant. The game is fresh, fun and incredibly addictive, only partially thwarted by the seasonal release of the content.

TrackMania is a seemingly simple product, but well layered and fun to play.

Trackmania is everything we could expect from a 2020 installment and is as fun as it has been for 17 years. Of course, its strange subscription model may not go over well with everyone.

Trackmania is not an exercise in superfine technique but it does not matter to be, because it seduces thanks to a gameplay as simple as effective and to the unbridled competition that prods every driver to always give his best.

TrackMania is the racing arcade of this summer, with tons of content and a new and fair ranking system that will be praised by competitive players.

Trackmania excels at everything fans fell in love with years ago: a true race with dozens of bizarre tracks and high speeds. The game unfortunately comes with a disclaimer: the different subscriptions, menus and leaderboards are very confusing. That is especially bad for new players, while Trackmania is such a good idea on paper.

In terms of gameplay, Trackmania builds on the precise arcade action that the franchise is known for. However, the total package is (still) somewhat limited, which also applies to the graphics.

Although its business model doesn’t seem to be appealing for everyone, Trackmania is a fun racing game that now everyone can try thanks to the free version. It would have been great to have a traditional version of the game, but fans of the series should know that the Trackmania experience is still strong in this one.

Unfortunately, it also draws on today's relatively unpopular business models to ensure the loyalty of its pilots. Despite this, Ubisoft’s motorized baby continues to deliver the best it can do in try harder arcade racing, while customization options are always more accessible and sophisticated.

The underlying principle is indestructible, but compared to its predecessors, the F2P restart disappoints with a lack of content and improvements.

Trackmania can be incredibly fun, but some awkward track design and camera issues can really dampen the experience.

The new Trackmania brings exactly what you’d expect - speed, precision, addiction. But a lot of players could be turned away by its controversial subscription system.

Finding a reason to pay for Trackmania subscription will be difficult, even for fans. In technical terms, the game lives up to its name and it is good to have it downloaded to spend a few minutes on the track of the day or try to improve our records, challenging users from all over the world. As for the rest of the package, it offers a service that nobody asked for and that, in the long term, will end up taking the game off the tracks.

The new Trackmania tries to merge E-Sport with the fun factor that all parts of the franchise contain. However, that doesn’t work out pretty well. On the other hand, it still has the strength of the predecessors: Easy to learn, but enough depth for pros. In addition, thanks to the free2play model every interested driver can give it a free shot.

The new Trackmania is a blast to play. It's beautiful and chaotic in a lot of the right ways, but it's also thoroughly surrounded by bad design choices and a general lack of guidance.

That new Trackmania isn't really new as it recycle most from Trackmania 2003 and Trackmania Nations, and the most revolutionary thing is it's subscription model. On the other hand, most of it is available for free, and it's still feel as great as ever.

Putting all the best content behind a pay wall seems a very unwise decision but the breezy insanity of Trackmania still shines through and the potential of the track designer is immense.

Beautiful to look at and very fun to play, Trackmania has only one big flaw: to be aimed, from the ground up, to the hardcore audience only.

Trackmania is a nice entry into the racing genre that provides a free version, along with paid versions that offer more content. The simple, fast-paced gameplay and official tracks are good, but it's best in short bursts. Official content doesn't take long to complete, so player creations are going to be important in keeping this game alive.

Trackmania’s mechanically nuanced time trials are as tense and addictive in 2020 as they were in 2006. The initial content selection of this latest entry is robust and a wealth of entertaining custom tracks are potentially just a click away… as long as both you and the community of talented track creators are willing to pay for its yearly subscription, that is. The idea that you’ll have to rebuy this version of Trackmania annually raises very real concerns about its longevity, but right now at least, it offers a well-modernized (if not revolutionary) take on a uniquely entertaining racing experience that threw out the rulebook years ago.

Trackmania is a nice addition to the series, one that looks and sounds great and, even when it's incredibly frustrating, it's fun. The downside is the new monetisation system, a subscription service that looks like it could segregate the community. The game is very extensive and if the audience picks it up, it could be great for the same reason the other Trackmania games were: user-created content using an outstanding track creator and editor.

Trackmania has the time trial gameplay you expect from the series with a neat map editor, but it's subscription service feels like a misstep. Rather than a social racing game, it’s a racing game with a social service built onto it. That might be enough for people, but its engagement can run thin and never feels worthy of its highest tier. While there were some good moments, there was some sense of unfulfillment every time I jumped in. There’s definitely fun to be had, but whether or not that fun will extend past a couple weeks is unlikely.

Apart from servers and a short campaign, the developers have not really prepared anything for the release. Most of the content of the new Trackmania is a reworking of old, and the rest is created by fans... again. In fact, Nadeo and Ubisoft only provide servers and features to meet the user's creative needs. On the other hand, this is what Trackmania has always been. However, there are still questions: how the studio will develop the game further and whether the subscription model will pay off. We haven't received any answers to them yet.

Now, it seems that I need to pay each year to build new tracks which, in fact, it looks like a scam (please, don't get me wrong, I would pay if it was the full-game). I can't stand a game which is based on a subscription to get all the offline features. Full Review »

However the features are very limited behind a paywall and the Starter demo version doesn't let you do anything - can't play with friends, can't play custom maps, can't even chat. The game is based around community and I have serious doubts that they will be able to bring enough players in to make it actually fun.

When it comes to updates to Stadium, the new blocks seem gimmicky and majority of them probably won't be used by trackbuilders. I can't say whether the quality of life updates are good or not as I don't think it's worth buying to try them out.
