The PVP content in the f2p part of the game is just emberassing. The menu is confusing and the paywall gave me the rest to delete the game. I swore to myself not to reinstall uplay ever again but i did it for trackmania. Got disappointed again....

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. I have only played TMNF and TMUF before this game, but this is everything I could want in a racing game. Ridiculously unlimited track editor, seasonal campaign, sure there’s Standard Access’s subscription fee, but it’s worth it. Say this game was priced at $80, and then you only used it for 6 years. You’d be wasting $20! With the subscription, you can customize how much you want to pay, to match how long you will play it for. I guess there’s also Club Access, but at least it’s not as stupid as Nintendo. $24.99 for just online play? At least Nadeo’s Club Access is only $5 more, and it gives so much more than just online play. Club joining, club creation, club map packs, club skins, custom skin editor…

Some of you may be angry that they added ice and bobsleigh blocks, because they’re hard to control. Well, here’s my answer: Just get good!

No, seriously. Ice and bobsleigh are very technical, and you shouldn’t expect to master them in the beginning. Concentrate on beginner techniques, like drifting and air braking, and maybe work on your racing lines, before attempting to master these two surfaces. They’re not “impossible to control” as some of the idiots out there might say. They’re very technical, what with ice slides, 360’s, brake taps, etc. But they’re not that bad once you get used to them.

Here’s a tip for bobsleigh: Start a turn aimed pretty high, and occasionally press left to stop your car from tilting too far down, resulting in an awkward and sideways landing.

For ice, even I’m not that good at it, so I can’t give a professional tip. For an ice slide, steer farther than you think you should, but then start holding the opposite direction to stop your rotation. It’s hard to master, but it works.

Any sort of game crashes you might have are just a result of bad hardware on your part. It is a very resource-heavy game, and even my gaming laptop automatically turns on the fan to stop it from overheating while you’re playing it.

Hope this gives a sense of reason to the current back and forth discussion about this game. Just cause it looks and functions differently, doesn't mean it’s bad. The expanded editor and refurbished graphics really show how far Nadeo has come in their development process. I can’t stress this enough: Don’t hate because it’s different, accept it because it’s new.

    Take care,

The amount you get for what you are paying for is well worth it. 10$ a year for 100 official maps and access to 365 community maps, infinite club campaigns and many different gamemodes is just more than enough. I'd rather play a supported game that gets better over time rather than buying the "new" game every year like CoD or FIFA. Expand

I've played/bought all the games of Trackmania and I have to say that one of my favourite things was the editor. Now, it seems that I need to pay each year to build new tracks which, in fact, it looks like a scam (please, don't get me wrong, I would pay if it was the full-game). I can't stand a game which is based on a subscription to get all the offline features.

    Nations Forever
    United Forever
    DS
    Wii
    ManiaPlanet
    Turbo

As you might see, that's pretty much every game of the TM series, but as the newest game of such a great franchise, it certainly won't disappoint... Or will it? I only can talk from my perspective, being the best person to judge it (lots of experience with the series), while also being the worst (not a new player, I'm biased).

    Now my actual review:
TM Club (as I'm gonna call this game) is the worst game of the series, I'd even the say worst racing game I have ever played.
It all starts when you try to open the game. When I try to, it crashes 4-5 times, before it FINALLY starts. My friend can't even start the game. So after 10 minutes of just trying to start the game, we're greeted by an "amazing" menu. The first thought I had was "am I playing a phone game with an Android Emulator?", but no, it was just the awful menu... Nothing that bad, maybe the rest of the game is fun? I started the first race and... was disappointed within seconds, the game crashed AGAIN. After over a MINUTE of loading (just to remind you, this game is less than 1.4gb). Okay, maybe after trying it again? In the end, I could finally play the first race after 15 minutes of restarting, how exactly did this pass quality check?
I started the race and immediately felt like something was off. What it was? The graphics. They were not only bad, but horrible. The trees look worse than the standard trees in Unity, and that's hard to do... After driving a few meters, you can see the "slopes" in this game, or just garbage... At least the car looks decent, but the rest of the graphics are just awful.
But how about the sound design and OST? It's impossible to ruin that, just copy and paste it... But not, they felt like completely changing the music. From classic chill music, to the worst "techno" like music you ever have heard. Thought Hardstyle was boring? No, THIS is. Maybe some people do like it, but I don't. The sound design isn't any better, I'd say someone was like **** this game is released in 5 minutes and we don't have any" and just searched for "car sound" on Google and used that.
Maybe the driving saves it? NO! Most of the time it doesn't feel like you're driving a car, it would feel better to drive those tracks with WOT tanks.

If you want to play a good game for free, just download Nations Forever, please.

Why 3 points out of 10?

Still nice gameplay. Car can be handled quite precisely. But there is a lack of content (cant drive user tracks and the summer 2020 tracks from nadeo are made with no heart and effort). Same for the graphis - quite ugly. Add the strange business model and then you have your 3 out of 10.

Game could still be fixed, if some adjustments are made. Till then i will probably play TMNF again.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. I have only played Trackmania Nations Forever before, I was hoping that this game will be somewhat similar, its not. The tutorial is just frustrating, It looks like half of tutorial maps are just copy paste of previous track with only different terrain. Summer 2020 tracks are horrible, they totally don't have trackmania spirit. Having to slow down and watch out for traps hidden around the corner or just after hillock is counterintuitive for that kind of racing game. The only good summer 2020 track, which reminded me TNF is track nr. 22. And of course the business model... Paying for yearly subscription to have such a basic things as a chat and advanced track editor is just awful.

If you are looking for Trackmania Nations Forever experience then don't even think about this game. Just pretend that it doesn't exist, for your good.

When it comes to updates to Stadium, the new blocks seem gimmicky and majority of them probably won't be used by trackbuilders. I can't say whether the quality of life updates are good or not as I don't think it's worth buying to try them out.

You might be asking why i write mostly Service instead of Game that is because you are not buying the Game you are buying a Service which in it self means that you have no rights for the Game to be working or even that they need to do anything to make this game playable!
This is mostly why i am worried over Games in total that use these kinds of methodes just to make you pay and they dont even need to do jack s***!
It is like buying a ticket for a ride you dont know and mostly i also dont see Nadeo or Ubuys***(my version of Ubisofts name since they put every good game they had into the ground and bury it 1000 km underground) do anything with the money except maybe saying its for the server but then again they could have done it like the games before who didnt needed Ubuys***s server!
The way they monetize this game is just greed infested and doesnt need to be like the games before showed!

The Gameplay is still the same thats one thing but is it worth it i for my part say no since just thinking of buying a service instead of a game and then also not having it for whenever i want to play it makes me not even consider playing it ever again!

if i want to play trackamania i will go and play the old ones since i am not bound to play it and i can play whatever i like whenever i like!

Most of the new modifiers try to add new mechanics at the expense of removing control from your car eg. low friction surfaces, no steering, no engine, fragile. Ice blocks are the worst thing to be added to the game, they feel TERRIBLE; I loath any time I encounter ice on a track. The menus are still rough and not improved over any passed TM games.

The most eggregious part is the pricing: the game is priced at AAA pricing for a game that is definitely not a AAA game. Not only that, but it's subscription based, so that AAA cost only gets you a 3 year subscription.

There are minor technical issues, poor performance on some maps despite more than adequate hardware is one of them.

The menu also isn't great. A lot of terms are just unfitting for what you're actually about to click.
I have to ask: what's wrong with the term "Servers"? Everybody knows what it is and what you can expect when clicking on it. Instead you have Club Rooms.

Also, the player page (so the player profile) isn't even working at the time of me writing this.
It's not broken, it's just not finished, or to quote the Website:
"It is still an work in progress, but you can already manage your Dedicated Server Accounts and view the maps you submitted to Map Review."
It's not important, but I expect games to be released in a finished state, this includes external features like player profiles, too.

But that's not really why the game deserves a rating of 0, so far the game would be a solid 7.
However, where it all falls apart for me (and obviously not just for me), is when we take the business model into consideration.

Expecting people to pay annually is unspeakably greedy.
They avoid the term "subscription", but let's be straight forward here:
    If you want to
    - communicate via chat messages,
    - make maps,
    - apply or make skins
    - be part of the community in any way, be it online or offline
you have to pay. Call it what you want, it's not making any difference to how I feel about it.
This is anti-consumer and I can not let this go.
It's unnecessary, it's cheeky and straight up unfair to the fans who are the only (!!) reason why the games are great. No user created content means no Trackmania.

    That's all.

I don't care about your free Nadeo servers. People like me can just create their own like we always do. It's cheaper for you and it lets us better servers, because they do not handle the load.
The development was clearly rushed at the end to be ready for the Zerator's TM Cup. Cam is buggy, the car is less powerful than a wooden car (Trial, RPG are unplayable now). The menus are awful. Trackmania was made by its community, they stay forever. I checked today and on Steam, there are still 300 people playing 12 years old games, and their still sharing videos on Youtube of the previous game.
You tried to justify the yearly price by 2 things:
    - new content, we'll have 4 campaigns a year of 25 poor maps. Whereas the community is creating maps: there are 533 232 maps today on TMNF Tm-exchange. Is more than 100 tracks a day over 12 years.
    - keep the development of TM alive.
We keep Trackmania alive for years. Don't take your players as whales.
You told us that you wanted to make TM an esports game, why did you choose this DA? And this cam 3? The game is less readable for the player and the viewer.
I'm not going to buy this game at full price every year.
Look what Paradox said: "Our DLC model is based on the idea that you pay for new content after the full game release. This helps to finance the further development of the game, which is of gain for all players." You were not honest.
I'll keep playing the previous TM, keep my server up. But I won't pay every year for a game, that I play sporadically.
Imagine if I paid 30€ every year for TMUF and TM2. It would have cost me 570€ and I keep playing those games.

Ubisoft apparently tried to defend it by saying "You're not paying for a subscription, you're paying for the game for a year." Last I checked, that's a very definition of a subscription, idiots. "Oh no, it's not loot boxes, it's surprise mechanics." That's how tone deaf they sound in defending this scummy business model, when features shouldn't be locked behind a subscription for a game like this one, such as advanced map editing, etc., for a game that I can play locally on my machine and don't have to upload tracks for. I mean just look how egregious this is. Ubisoft is calling it DLC on the store page. If it's DLC, it shouldn't be locked behind a subscription. That's like telling me, "Oh, we see you bought this game and enjoy it! It would be awful if you lost access to it soon so pay us to keep playing your locally stored copy of your beloved game!" Eff off Ubisoft. What a scummy, scam-ridden, disgusting practice.

I've uninstalled Trackmania and cannot recommend it at all. I will not go back to this version, this supposed "reboot" of the Trackmania franchise/series. Folks should just stick with the old Trackmania game like Nations Forever, where you have permanent access to your rightly purchased content.

Maniaplanet Journal.

The entirely new block set and the new added gameplay mechanics like Reactor Boosts and the Ice block set makes the gameplay, that is known for 14 years now, still feel fresh and responsive. Map creations are now more multifaceted with new features like grid-less block placement and block manipulation. Also, the skin-editor feels more like an serious competitor to create high-definition skins against external tools like Photoshop or Substance Painter.
The Clubs are a cool feature to bring people together in a clan-like group with it's abilities for Map Rooms and Skin share. Also, the seasonal campaign and Track of the Day gives solo players an good amount of various tracks to play on and making records hunts more fascniating.

Sadly, the game besides that just feels like it's predecssor and even runs on the same platform. Besides some graphical improvements on surfaces, the game still uses ugly cubemaps reflections on anything, that reflects besides the car, and are non-calculateable or changeable so every map uses the same cubemap. Shadow calculation issues, the inability to sometimes render through the MediaTracker and artifacts on wall, especially in indoor parts of a track, exists since the last major update of ManiaPlanet in 2017.
Added to that, there are the biggest launch issues Trackmania ever had, such as Netcode issues, that gives players an unwanted advantage of seconds in the leaderboards, therefore making the online mode being unplayable for some people and marketing/communication issues, especially to Standard Access players not being able to join Clubs, even if communicated before or the conversion rate of free Club months if you want to upgrade from Standard.
Another big issue, present for the casual playerbase and even some Trackmania veterans, the game does not explain anything about the game everywhere. Basically your only options are to try-and-error through anything or hope that the community made a guide somewhere.
Status reports like Changelogs of game updates, what features we can expect in the future or what bugs/issues are being worked on are on a bare minimum. If you aren't on the official Trackmania discord or not following the Managing Director's twitter account, you would assume that nothing i s
communicated at all. For an live service game that keeps costing yearly, it can be a nail in the coffin before the game and it's developers have even the ability to prove that it's worth the money. And that's bad given that Nadeo wanted to keep the game alive a long time without developing another sequel.

My conclusion is that anything of these are just launch issues that will get worked on in the next days and weeks. Otherwise i gonna see the game dead in less of it's maximum buyable Access tier, which is 3 years.

Unfortunately because apart from this its a big step up from previous Stadium environments - at least for me. The handling feels more natural, the car has a new futuristic feature: reactor boost. Graphics are clean and encourage people to make clean tracks and not that usual cluster**** which was common in Stadium before. There are more abilities for mapping and editing which results in a huge amount of amazing maps with a lot custom blocks and unique appearance. (yeah you know: Midnight Metropolis and stuff like that.) The game has a new section named "track/cup of the day" where those community made maps are implemented into the game.

The only downside i see to previous Stadium environments (apart from subscription model) are the flat surfaces - that means grass is just green, there is actually no more grass on grass. So in dark spots you cant tell the difference between grass, dirt, ice or concrete.

Overall i again got addicted by the newest trackmania and would recommend to buy the 10€ starter pass. I don't see the benefit of the 3x more expensive club access. (With starter access you get the map editor, track of the day section and ofc you can download and play any map from TMX. Its worth the money.)

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. I have to put 0 for the economic model, as well as the huge lack of novelties. Speed drift has not been removed and the game will remain an unpopular niche played by a only a few after the first year.
Visually it looks ok, but not really better than stadium².
To make my point clear, know That I am a lon time trackmania player, and a huge full speed fan (no sd). I have 1000 hour on stadium², but I cannot get behind this new one. The default have not been removed, and I would have to pay a yearly subscription to have access to the only couple of servers I use. Absolute shame. That user review is going to be described as populated by haters, as usual when a game reviews ( the real ones, not the critic's reviews) dont match the expectation.
But get this clearly: even outside of the subscribtion problem, the proposed content is way to small for a game coming out in 2020. Even the WII version of trackmania had more feathers than this scam.

The trackmania series frustrated me that I hadn't heard about it sooner. Watching your track ranking improve is about as addicting as crack cocaine. This new entry does some things extremely well while doing other things not so well.

    positives:
The gameplay is unmatched by anything. There are only 2 rules: collect all checkpoints in any order, and finish. This simplicity not only makes the game easy to understand from newbies but it also allows experienced players to get creative with how they tackle the maps. The physics feel spot on and consistent (apart from reactor boost). They aren't mario kart arcadey but it isn't gran turismo either. It's right in the middle which I wish more games did. Your racing lines matter more than any other video game without haiving that pesky realism where you are constantly having to manage oversteer / understeer and such. The track editor is no doubt the best improvement over previous trackmania games and it has boosted my creativity ten fold with the ability to block mix and free place blocks. The ability to place a checkpoint and restart from there everytime while building a track makes me wonder how I lived without it. Track of the day has also been a great addition and that has been where I have sunk a lot of time.

    negative:
unfortunately there is also quite a lot of negative with this game. I was quite surprised that on day one, the leaderboards didn't work and the 5 hours I had spent (yes 5 hours) grinding on track of the day for that one pb was not counted and I got no credit for anything. The netcode of this game has seemingly gotten better since release but it still has a ton of work that needs to be done to it. For now I would only recommend this game if you are looking for a solo experience with leaderboards. You will also need a decent pc to run this game (I have gtx960 + fx 6300 @ 60hz and I play on 720p lowest settings @ 150fps otherwise if the game drops below 100fps, the input lag gets really severe). The UI is also a step back from previous games with missing features such as a server browser that displays basic server information.

The pricing model is a bit of a Nog but I can't really see how it could be avoided. Some people say mtx would fix it but that would most likely break the community content creation aspect of trackmania. Others say that a one time payment would fix the issue but that would force nadeo to make yet another trackmania game which is probably the last thing that the series needs (there are a lot of tm games). Imo standard should be more generous with giving club access but other than that, I can live with it.

As long as you ignore the glaring technical faults with this game, the gameplay is amazing and I think even your dog would enjoy it

Plus you can thoroughly try the game for free in singleplayer (with some online integrations like rankings and ghost players).

The game is great, the best racing game both for casuals and pros. Super fun, great community and Nado are good developers who are close to their community and offer them amazing tools and support.

The camera perspective has been screwed up also, by some useless cockput animation crap thats just distracting and adds nothing to the game. Also, many dedicated servers are not joinable, even tho everything is set up correctly.

    The decline of Trackmania continues.

It's better than TM Turbo, because the gameplay is more like TMN, but it looks incomplete. Menus, Rankings, etc are not beautiful like it was. Looks like a mobile game. For now, I will only play the free mode, because a subscription for this incomplete game is not fair, but I hope they can develop it

Its a game that lets you access it for free but if you actually want to have actual fun and not just a few tracks every 3 months you need to pay!
If you want to get money just make the game not f2p,not this stupid garbage.
Only reason I'm giving 4 and not 0 is because gameplay is decent.

The thing that really annoyed me & made me bother write this review is that, after paying for standard access, I find out that spectating any ghost is included only in the club addition of the game. And spectating ghosts is a frustrating, buggy mess to begin with, so I'm not paying 30€/year for that.
I'm not a serious TM player or anything but spectating best times seems like a core feature that should have been included with standard access or even starter free access, as it is a feature that would mostly cater to new players.
The game feels like a very bad mobile freemium scam app, even after paying for std. access.

As a Trackmania fan from the first hour I was heavily looking froward to the free-to-play release this year. The problem of this game is, that if you don´t pay, you get an unfinished game. The fun lasts only for the few hours long campaign, the rest is classic but very repetitive rework by the publisher. Sadly just recycling, but if you´re new with this franchise, enjoy!

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Trackmania is not a game where you need to stuff cool graphics. Initially, she was counting on the trickiness and stuntness that fans are so used to. Here the car is incredibly heavy and inert to stunts

I will give an average score only because of the evolution in terms of the variety of blocks and surfaces

"I've been playing Trackmania since 2006, starting with the ESWC world cup. It was a beautiful, simple, crowded, glorious, and exciting game. I played it for years and migrated to Nations Forever, and then to United.

With Nations Forever, the devs made their first evil move by turning the game into a painful experience for "unpaid" account owners. They had to wait as a spectator for one map after every four, and couldn't even chat during that period. So if you have a team training, or WR hunting, you had to go through this process every 5th map or restart and lose your heat and focus. Terrible.

Somewhere around this time, if I'm not mistaken, Ubisoft bought Nadeo, the developer.

Many years later, Trackmania 2 was released. It was somewhat more rigid in terms of content, but it showed signs of fragmentation. The game base launcher was separated into sections for different launches for each game. The menus became somewhat cluttered, but it was still navigable. It was buggy at first, but they fixed it over time. However, forced shadows raised a lot of concerns among players and even made some tracks unplayable.

And now, Trackmania 2020. It was advertised as great, with a serious-looking art style. However, Ubisoft turned this installment into a yearly subscription. Yes, you could still play for free, but you would be prevented from many aspects of the game. It's awful because even if you pay for it, like me, there is almost nothing else you can do but to mingle with poorly designed and splattered content, clogged menus, and very hard-to-navigate content, literally IPTV style menus, many weird stuff here and there, clubs, inexplicable competitions all over the place where you can't tell whether they are official or not, a handful of internet streamers' names everywhere, in-game ads that are over the top, childish texture mapping, very bad texture choice, and sometimes players can't even tell whether they are on ice, magnet, or plastic surfaces. Even the official soundtrack feels like it was made for teaching babies their first PC game. It's a very, very awful experience, and players are separated from each other. Chat is restricted to subscription payers, and you can't even have the glorious, colorful, and creative nicknames you used to have. Your only choice is your default Ubisoft account name that appears in plain white on the scoreboard. The ranking system is also obnoxious, as your ranking is determined by the skill of the other two players in your team in a 3v3 match.

There are only two good sides to this game. The first is the default car skins, which are good and show effort. The other is the Royal mode, where you can at least have a little fun, but that's all. I've subscribed for a standard account, and I thought there was more to it with CLUB access subscription, because the game seemed so dead and literally a soup of unsorted content. I have paid 3x the amount I've paid for the standard access, YES, they still charge full amount even if you have paid for standard just before. Ubisoft is THAT hungry about this game. I was wrong... literally NOTHING changed other than having access to CLUB content, which are basically custom in-game rooms that has no damn specialty ever. I felt ripped right from the beginning.

The official maps are plain and dreadful, and all the other ordinary map content is shovelfeeded into your face. There are clubs, even they do not know what the hell they are good for. Most of the time in gameplay, your brain twists, even if you know the map you're playing, you actually hesitate in each occasion for there is uncertainty and unnecessary stuff going around everywhere. Devs stole many ideas from DISTANCE, and got the Trackmania very close to that childish car soccer game, killing its characteristic lines.

In conclusion, this game is dead, soulless, and when it died, it shat and vomited many colorful adversaries. Ubisoft is in charge of killing another good franchise."

Apart from servers and a short campaign, the developers have not really prepared anything for the release. Most of the content of the new Trackmania is a reworking of old, and the rest is created by fans... again. In fact, Nadeo and Ubisoft only provide servers and features to meet the user's creative needs. On the other hand, this is what Trackmania has always been. However, there are still questions: how the studio will develop the game further and whether the subscription model will pay off. We haven't received any answers to them yet.

Trackmania excels at everything fans fell in love with years ago: a true race with dozens of bizarre tracks and high speeds. The game unfortunately comes with a disclaimer: the different subscriptions, menus and leaderboards are very confusing. That is especially bad for new players, while Trackmania is such a good idea on paper.
