Well ..... I didn't expect it to be so much fun,
Whats special about this game is the aggressive play style, i'm sick of fighting dumb enemies in souls-like games lately, and this game kinda fix it for me, tho it gets easier when you play it for a while.
Pros: - Excellent gameplay - Good maparea design - Unique enemies and bosses - Intense adrenaline triggering combat - Good

    Pros:
    - Excellent gameplay
    - Good maparea design
    - Unique enemies and bosses
    - Intense adrenaline triggering combat
    - Good leveling and upgrading system
    - Tons of weapons and Talents to choose from
    - It's Cheap ... i mean 10$ for this !! jeez can i buy it again ? lol

    Cons:
    - Poor story
    - Minor bugs
    - Very linear
    - It's sadly short (7 hours)
yet if you are aiming to finish it with side quest and all you gonna get 20 hours maybe.

I highly recommend it for """"souls fans"""",
tho keep your expectation low, its a small project..
you can't compare it to DS, BB, Sekiro, Nioh etc...

Combat is fun and rewarding; reave in particular is a very nice system that separates it from other Souls-like titles.

Is it as good as Bloodborne? No, absolutely no way but given that the game was made by indie devs that are famed for the Worms series back in the 90s and early 00s, they've come a very long way and should be proud of this cult gem.

Overall a really good action game, that finnally fuse the Souls-like mechanics, at Sekiro ones.

Pretty fun to play, very scenic and pretty well optimized. I suggest to give this little masterpiece a try

It is a solid game, a lil short, but the base game is great, combat is fun and bosses are ok. Music and scenery are a perfect match.

With some more love for the extra content, this game would belong to the better non from software souls likes.

Playtime: ~6,5h for the base game and ~12h for a complete run

In my opinion the perfect Soulslike. The combination of new ideas (white and green bar, weapons, talent tree) and good old mechanics (deflect and dodge) make it really fun. It‘s fast pace, it‘s extremely hard. Bosses are designed nicely, graphics are great. Hope there will come more!

    A Solid Souls-Like Entry

Thymesia, for me, can be described as a strange combination of Bloodborne, Nioh and Sekiro. Aesthetically it looks like Bloodborne and is about as fast paced. Combat is a bit like Sekiro, with a strong emphasis on parrying, especially on boss fights, if you don't learn to Parry, the Bosses will put you down very quickly. It's also not hard to learn, a lot of complaints in reviews I see are people comparing it to Sekiro and then complaining about parrying? Hello?
The main Nioh aspect of it is the Plague Weapons which are a variety of different special attacks you can use and also the mission select, the game is not open world like Sekiro and Bloodborne, but level based.

The game manages to succeed in the way that all games should, it's simply very fun to play.
The enemy design is pretty basic but even the most bog standard guy can mess you up if you're not careful or you get too overzealous in your attacks.

One thing I liked is how each enemy has basically two health bars, armour and hp. You need to get the armour down so you can get access to the HP and use different attacks for each, if you spend too long dilly-dallying and not applying enough pressure, their armour bar begins to regenerate. I think it's pretty neat.

The side-quests are a must, yeah they're in the same level as you did before, similar to how Nioh's side-quests work, but you get a lot from them and some of the Bosses are strictly in Side-Quests only, so I'd highly recommend doing them, you also need their "Cores" for some of the different endings.

I didn't really have many problems with the game, I see people complaining about frame rate drops but I only had that for the first 10% of the first mission, it was absolutely not a consistent flaw.

Bosses are like how they are in most games of this genre, you get beat enough times to learn the attack patterns and then it just becomes about smashing them once you've got it down.

The story isn't told to you straight up, it's all done through passages and notes you find on the ground, which give you an idea of some of the history of the level and how things came to be. Again, not to keep referring to other reviews, but I don't understand why people are saying it's a comparable to Sekiro or Bloodborne and then complaining that the story isn't told to you in an obvious manner. Isn't that one of the reasons those former games were praised? Everything seems a bit hypocritical.

I guess my only complaint is that the game is quite short, you can probably finish the game in around 6-8 hours if you do all the side quests as well, but the game is only £20 so it's not that strong an argument.

I highly enjoyed my time playing Thymesia, maybe I'll go back and get some of the other endings, it was a good little experience and I really hope in a few years we'll see a sequel which is longer with a few extra mechanics added to the game. It's a solid entry into the genre and it is absolutely one of the betters ones on the market outside of Fromsoft games.

For what it is, it's a great game; something to keep you occupied for a day or two with a little bit of replayability but not a whole lot. I'd definitely recommend it to anyone looking for a game to scratch that souls-like itch which a lot of us have.

8/10, a great game for what it is and you'll have a lot of fun playing it.

Also: Abuse the dagger, it's OP.

If you’re a veteran of soulslike games, you’ll find Thymesia enjoyable, yet frustrating at times due to some unfair mechanics. Unfortunately, this is not a welcoming game for newcomers to the genre, so you’ll want to skip this one if you’re finding games like Sekiro and Bloodborne too difficult.

Thymesia is a nice diversion - something that can keep you occupied until the next great soulsborne game gets released. That is its curse. It's a good game, with fast and enjoyable action, but lacks the immersive story and atmosphere, as well as the quality of level design and combat finesse that is expected from such titles.

OverBorder Studio is probably capable of creating a rival to Sekiro, but their first game is just an experimental try.
