    This is an amazing. Almost as good as one of the best games of all time Dishonored. This is one of the best action stealth games ever created. Don't believe all the 0s and 1s. They have no idea what they are talking about and think the original Thief even compares.

    Ok, this is another case of ridiculously low user reviews skewing the rating of a game... I think that the same is true for the professional reviews actually, Does this game a perfect 100% review? Probably not... but anything less than an 80% is just trolling because the game does not live up to your nostalgia tinted memory or the first games.

    Seriously, load them up and play... they are good, but the new game not only looks better but plays better too. I'll grant that the world is not as open, but particularly with the modern hints turned off and the difficulty turned on the game is harder and more fair than the old games. AND! With the difficulty turned down and the hint features turned on the game tells a smooth enjoyable story.

    Also, it's beautiful. Sure the color pallet is dark... but it's set at night in a dirty gothic city... if it had been any more brightly colored people would be complaining about that.    … Expand

    It's not perfect but I could not give the 9.5 I wanted to so a 10 it is.

    Absolutely loved it and invested 45 hours in completing it the first time over and still missed half the loot/collectibles.

    I'm new to the series and i just loved it its atmospheric,awsomly looking perfect stealth game. It only stumbles a bit on A.I wich is not exactly smartest and loadings but i recommend it to new player and the old player **** about not beeing old thief go play old theif and shut up

    Absolutely great atmosphere and fun game-play. The story pulls you in immediately and keeps evolving in a very engaging way. I didn't expect this game to the that steam punk'ish but it's a great addition to this medieval-like world. The graphics and sound in the game are absolutely awesome and since the game support the new AMD Mantle API I can run it on "Very High" with high frame ratesAbsolutely great atmosphere and fun game-play. The story pulls you in immediately and keeps evolving in a very engaging way. I didn't expect this game to the that steam punk'ish but it's a great addition to this medieval-like world.     I don't understand people not liking this game. One of the weirdest anomalies I've seen from review sites and user scores. Most of you are Thief fans and mainly complaining about the modernisation of the series. Its so strange to say that, since IMO the old Thief games sucked ass. Anyway as an objective reviewer, I have to give my two cents on the game. I am thoroughly enjoying it. Its aI don't understand people not liking this game. Its so strange to say that, since IMO the old Thief games sucked ass. Anyway as an objective reviewer, I have to give my two cents on the game. I am thoroughly enjoying it. Its a unique game in the middle of a release window where most games are just the same old same old. Its the only game in a LONG time to actually hold my attention.

    Things right:
    1. The atmosphere is incredible. The dark Gothic feel is a welcome change. I just love being fully immersed in it.
    2. Player movement. Some of the most fluid and fun player movement I've had the privilege of playing.
    3. Immersion. Creates a world where you can get lost in. A fully believable city with many paths. I haven't been more sucked into a game in a long time.
    4. Graphics are spectacular. Just amazing on PC, and very well optimised. I have a Radeon HD 5850, and I'm running everything on max settings @ 60fps.
    5. Great character acting and animations.
    6. Story. In a thief game you'd wonder what the hell they could do to make it interesting. But they do a great job of introducing fun characters and an interesting plot.
    7. Thiefing is fun. End of, stealing stuff is just great fun.
    8. Multiple paths. The re playability is incredible.
    9. The settings. A game that has all the help you need, but when you want it, can switch off everything and make it as hardcore as you want, without cheating like saying: "NPC now see you in the dark. Just turns off most hand holding. Love it.

    In summary, its a spectacularly well made game that deserves all the attention you can give it and more. Don't listen to die hard fan boys whine about how its not the same as the original. trust me when I say, that is a GOOD thing.

    The bad:

    1. The reviews are putting this game down too much. It makes no sense half of what is complained about. I've never been so happy about bypassing all the negative reviews and getting it myself. Has taught me that all reviews are opinions and to trust your own opinion. Listen top the review and make up your own mind as I did. SO worth it!!!

    Excellent game, just like the original Thief games. Finally a 'true' stealth game, especially on the Master or custom difficulties you really have to play it pure stealth which is great compared to other 'wannabe' stealth games out there today. Together with Dishonored this is a true gem, definitely recommended!

    What could have been better is the map system, it can be very confusing sometimes. There are different levels on the map and combined with when entering a new area, it is confusing to say the least.
    As far as the story goes..Well it could have been better. Voice acting is not the best and who the fukk dropped all that cash all over the town? Things like that dosnt really matter to me. Its a fantasy world where nothing seem to make sens.

Foreboding atmosphere, superbly controls, complex gameplay systems, intricate graphics, exceptional storytelling, etc. Eidos Montreal have proven once again that their team has the chops to reboot a classic franchise after the incredible Deus Ex: Human Revolution. Thief is a Thief game for fans of the older titles. While some thingsThief is truly an excellent game for excellent people. Foreboding atmosphere, superbly controls, complex gameplay systems, intricate graphics, exceptional storytelling, etc. Eidos Montreal have proven once again that their team has the chops to reboot a classic franchise after the incredible Deus Ex: Human Revolution. Thief is a Thief game for fans of the older titles. While some things have changed, 99% of it remains the same but better than ever. 10/10, well deserved! A masterful creation!… Expand

    Alot of these people have no idea what they are talking about. This is NOT a full copy of previous THiefgames, but people seem to focus on that part. It is a reboot, it feels nice and open world, the graphics are great and the story actually is not bad.
    Ive sincerly enjoyed this game and i hope everyone tries it out before relying on these biased reviews.

    I absolutely HATE people being **** retard around a reboot, thinking its the same as a sequel and then compare seriously everything to the older games.     I preordered quite a while ago as I have been following this game since it was revealed as Thi4f (Thief 4) many years ago. Myself like others were quite skeptical of this game following the game play videos released. After playing the first mission, I am pleasantly surprised - especially after seeing some of the recent reviews on Metacritic/IGN and the likes – the thing is, I really don’tI preordered quite a while ago as I have been following this game since it was revealed as Thi4f (Thief 4) many years ago. Myself like others were quite skeptical of this game following the game play videos released. After playing the first mission, I am pleasantly surprised - especially after seeing some of the recent reviews on Metacritic/IGN and the likes – the thing is, I really don’t think they have been playing it correctly.

    Now, there are a few things to do if you want to enjoy this game. First - turn off focus. Play on master difficulty or custom difficulty, and turn off pretty much everything you think will break your immersion. The light crystal isn't necessary as you can tell when you are in the light or not - I mean seriously..

    Same goes for guard alerts. When they see you - do you REALLY need lightning spiking around their heads? No, if they see you, you'll know - we aren't stupid. Jeeze these modern gaming trends do get on my nerves. The point of this game is to be as immersed in it as possible.

    With these things set you are guaranteed to have an enjoyable experience. This is a first-person only Thief title unlike the previous installment (Thief Deadly Shadows) - which had the option for either or.

    So this is a reboot - Garret doesn't have his mechanical eye (at least not yet - maybe that happens eventually) and the city is well ... kind of like it was in previous games. Guards are still overly violent and rude. There is some kind of disease they keep talking about called the gloom – which really reminds me of Dishonored.

    As for the gameplay – with everything set like I said above (thank god they put these options in). This can be one of the most heart beating experiences in gaming you can have.
    Lurking in the shadows trying to frantically pick a lock in time before the guard does his sweep near you.
    You WILL get caught, you CAN get away. And you can retry.
    The feeling you get when you successfully strip a house clean of all its valuables without anyone even realizing (even though you are right there) is just an experience that you will not find in any other games except … well, the previous Thief games. And maybe Dishonored. But all HUDS and crap really got in my way. With stealth games – you want it to be as minimalist as possible. All you want is Garret.

    As for what I’ve seen, it is quite linear, this is a narrow corridor city you will be making your way through. Yet, I still felt like I had options. I could still go off and explore, take the rooftops, sneak past guards and pick the lock of the front door before anyone noticed. This is where Thief shines.
    Now for some negatives. I am going to ignore focus mode and everything of the likes as I have already stated my opinions on it.

    The loading. For a 2014 game, it isn’t very impressive when every section of the city is barred off with a load screen. This is how it was in Deadly Shadows as well. But well... I guess I expected more. Thankfully these aren’t very long.
    And the thing that really irks me; is the quick time events. Spamming ‘E’ to open a frekin window. NO THANKS. THAT’S NOT A GOOD IDEA. Just open the Window for us, spamming ‘E’ really doesn’t make anything better. This is something I really think should be removed in a later patch.

    The cinematics are OK. But gosh darn it the ones that aren’t rendered in game are very chopping and often the sound falls out of sync. Again, this will be fixed in a patch.
    I am very early in the game, but based on my first impression. I am happy with my purchase. I will update this review as I progress..    … Expand

    Ever since I first heard of Thief I was excited. I am a huge stealth-fan and I never got around to playing the original Thief-games, so this was a great opportunity for me and other newcomers to jump right into this iconic stealth series... and I am very glad that I did. Thief is a beautiful game and a unique stealth experience with smooth gameplay and lots of variety in your approach on things. Simply a superb game that is unfortunately brought down by critics and die-hards fan who expected something that would have stuck more to the "original recipe".

    The Good:
    · Smooth controls: climbing low obstacles, peeking around corners to get a better look at your environment, swooping from shadow to shadow... It all feels incredibly smooth, especially for a stealth game. If you have ever played Dishonored, just imagine something like that without magic and a more realistic approach.
    · Money money money: getting your gold-greedy paws around precious items such as common goblets and letter openers among countless others and more unique collectable items is incredibly fun and satisfying. This loot is generally realistically spread, meaning no golden goblets will be found on the streets and that jewelry will mostly be found in stores or houses. I personally think this encouraged me to explore different area's to find different kind of loot.
    · Phenomenal stealth gameplay: there are no stealth games this well-crafted in my recent memory. Your approach may depend on the situation, your goal or the difficulty (which is geniously customizable to enjoy the game as hard or as simple as you'd like). You can sneak past every guard, knock them all out, just steal all their money (heheh), or you can distract guards by firing arrows, putting out fires, throwing empty bottles etc. It feels fresh and addictive and completely different with every level or replay.

    The Bad:
    · AI: there's dumb AI and there's blind AI. I'd say the AI isn't necessarily dumb (birds and dogs will alert guards and guard frequently and correctly patrol the area) but the AI is blind as f*ck. Alright, you're in the shadows, but at times you can literally walk in front of guards and they'll keep their eyes fixed on you, but they won't react. This idiocy encouraged me to stay as far away from guars as possible, but I'd prefer my AI a little bit more alert and responsive.
    · Pure stealth may not be for everyone: in games like Splinter Cell or Hitman you can either go in pure stealth without ever being noticed of going in a bit more fierce, killing every enemy in sight. You can obviously kill enemies with an arrow in between the enemy's eyes, but real action is avoided. The more stealthy you play, the more rewarding (both in-game and personally) and immersive the game will be, but poor in-game combat will put off almost everyone looking to cause some fuss.

    The Ugly:
    · Man this game is gorgeous. Amazing textures, immersive lighting, stunning character models, an atmospheric city and espacially Garrett's hands are detailed beyond belief. One of the most beautiful games in recent memory.

    Final Verdict:
    · Thief is not for everyone due to its imperfections, but for stealth-fans like myself this game is a must. It's the very best stealth has to offer and undoubtedly a game that will stick with you for a long time.    … Expand

    I've played 15 hours and I'm not even close to finishing the game I'm in the middle of the main story and many side quests I have left to do , which are very funny indeed. For people who loves stealth games should try Thief. it must be admitted that the AI ​​is weak ( may change as they are starting to put patches), another point ... the city can offer makes the game not so linear and you go looking for unique items that are as tables or plates of the city or you decode secret locations if you read personal books that you can find in homes. Thief is a great game of stealth but the only big theme out of AI ,on the plot still cant talk because they do not yet finished the game but it is promising.

    Primero que nada la gente debe parar de comparar este juego con Dishonored es el peor error que puedes cometer a la hora de jugarlo, Thief nunca ha tenido NADA que ver con Dishonored. Thief es un juego de sigilo, donde todo debería resolverse de esa manera, no está pensado para agraciar a todo el mundo como en el caso de Dishonored, sino más bien para seguir la estela de los clásicos Thief y complacer a sus fans.

    A mí me gusto el juego llevo 15 horas y no voy ni en la mitad y me faltan un montón de misiones secundarias, que son muy divertidas por cierto. Para la gente que le encantan los juegos de sigilo Thief debes probarlo si o si, hay que admitir que la IA es muy floja (quizá cambie ya que están empezando a poner parches), otro punto...al ser una ciudad a tu disposición hace que el juego no sea tan lineal y puedes ir buscando ítems únicos que se encuentran como Cuadros o placas de la cuidad o lugares secretos que descifras a medida que lees libros personales que encuentras en casas. Thief es un juegazo del sigilo pero el único gran falló es el tema de la IA, sobre la trama todavía no puedo hablar debido a que todavía no termino el juego pero es prometedora.

    Sobre la gráfica me va excelente muy bien optimizada, jugando a 2560x1080 todo al máximo tengo fijo 30 fps, a veces unos bajones pero se arregla haciendo OC, lo del Blur no me he percatado en absoluto hay que admitir que hay gente que le desagrada eso pero se arregla con un mod.    … Expand

You can choose the difficulty , I chose normal and it's still a little hard to steal things without being noticed, you have to think before what you're doing and keep an eye on the movement of soldiers. The graphics are not spectacular, but they are beautiful. I ran theIs the first Thief I played, I played for almost 2 hours and loved the atmosphere, the gameplay, everything is perfect . It took me almost 2 hours to get past the first mission , exploring every corner to steal as much as possible and trying not to be detected, which made me take more. About the negative reviews, including the "big sites", I was not disappointed to read before playing, and now I played I'm not unrepentant, as I said, I loved the game and I recommend for you that enjoy a good first-person stealth game.     Why i give full 10 points? I'm an old Thief Fan since 1998. And i can tell you that i really enjoying this Reboot! I love the atmosphere and also the Level Design. I can't understand all this negative reviews here. That doesn't deserve this game! Maybe the AI is a bit weak but it's no big problem.

    I am a little shocked when I see Metacritic and user's score, but any of us can have own opinion.
    In my opinion, new "Thief" deserves for 10/10 ! Game is so atmospheric, main and side quests are really interesting and exploring the city .. I must say I forgot about my real life. I was sure I am in other world,    It's hard to say what I feel when I'm playing Thief. This game is amazing ..

    The game is simply a masterpiece. Beautiful graphics, excellent optimization, good detailzation stealth at the level. Squarenix bad games can not do. I am very happy buying this great game.

Each new game in the franchise has had heavy expectations placed on it. Most Thief games since then have had a mixed reception. Then there are those that have always understood what Thief is about and enjoy it for what it is: a damn good pure stealth series.

    The new Thief is no exception. Nothing has given me the sense of skulking about in the shadows and having to use stealth in order to survive better than Thief has. This isn't an action/stealth hybrid like Dishonored or Splinter Cell that you can go in guns blazing and cut down half a dozen guards in a short amount of time. In Thief you have to remain undetected or face the consequences.

    At first I was disappointed by the fact you can't use the rope arrow on any wood surface as before and can only attach to specially highlighted beams. But the game makes up for it in other ways. The new swoop ability is pure awesomeness. It gives a fluidity and speed to the game while still feeling stealthy and appropriate.

    The graphics are quite good, with some of the best lighting and shadows I have ever seen in a game. The world itself is quite dreary and that may turn off some people, but it has character and a strange charm of its own.

    The sound could be a little more atmospheric in my opinion, but it is generally still generally good. The voice acting is very good in the case of Garrett and fairly good in the case of most of the other characters. Garrett is such an intriguing character.

    All in all I think Thief carries the stealth torch admirably, and probably better than any other modern "stealth" game. I've enjoyed it a lot and if you like stealth I am sure you will enjoy it too.    … Expand

    I played all the previous Thief and has long awaited this game. I´m happy to see a good story and nice smooth controls and very atmospheric.
    Pros:
    Great stealth system, excellent sandboxing (you can go nearly everywhere all the time only unlocking new areas through accepting missions and story) Massive amount of things to loot Mystic, and the Glyphs are there though I´d like so see    I played all the previous Thief and has long awaited this game.     As a Thief fan I have to say I enjoy the game immensely, it obviously isn't classic Thief games but what do you expect? It's 2014 and games have changed for better and for worse. It isn't goundbreaking by any means, but I didn't need groundbreaking. Just a stealth game which I got. Excellent atmosphere and graphics and I feel the controls are fluid.

    Find some let's plays and judge for    As a Thief fan I have to say I enjoy the game immensely, it obviously isn't classic Thief games but what do you expect? It's 2014 and games have changed for better and for worse. It isn't goundbreaking by any means, but I didn't need groundbreaking. Just a stealth game which I got. Excellent atmosphere and graphics and I feel the controls are fluid.

    Dont know why this game is getting so bad reviews its a GOOD game. Good controls, good cinematics, good imersion. Making a reboot with modern engines makes de game a quite diferent. My system is a AMD FX 8350, and 2X7970 Crossfire, the game runs at 60 FPS.

    Really fun game, I think a lot of people set their expectations far too high. While their are some issues, not being able to jump I find annoying, its still a very fun game and looks great on a decent PC. Dishonored fans will enjoy. I played the original and while there's been some changes it feels very much a Thief game to me.     I like this game. It's pure stealth, in my humble opinion. Atmosphere and music are great, visuals are solid too. Gameplay is interesting and it's NOT DISHONORED CLONE. I don't know why so many critics and gamers hate Thief...

    This is a great game. I have heard so many bad reviews, mostly from people who can't appreciate the genre, or are more into action games than stealth games. This IS a stealth game from it's core to every element, so don't go buying the game if you are more a FPS gamer and then complain about where is the combat, the game is too slow etc.

    The game's graphics are fascinating, every detail is made, althougg sometimes the character animation is far from perfect, but all the environment design puts up to it.

    Good stealth, for me its better than Dishonored.
    Interesting game. Big City, realy atmospheric side missions and interesting story missions.
    Its also amazingly optimized, and the graphics are more than good.

    Amazing game! I really love it.
    WHy? Because it has not just easy, normal, hard options, but you can customize them. I really love gameplay and i can't understand this low score.

    The game is amazing and does as much as it can to update the series while still keeping it as true to the originals as it could. The mechanics are smooth and the graphics are fantastic. At some moments this game feels like the better of the Arkham series in its play style.     I played (and loved) Thief 1&2 as well as Thief: Deadly Shadows… which people seemed to have more legitimate complaints about than this one and still managed to rank a solid 85 on Metacritic if you care to look. (Once all the reviews were in.) This one is better than that one was. Full stop. IGN's review was bordering on slanderous. (Maybe they didn't pay IGN enough this time?) Don't get me wrong, the game isn't perfect… but I get the impression that a great number of the pro reviewers are simply too young to know what Thief is even supposed to be like. (Anyone who calls this story "confusing" needs to go back and play the earlier Thief games. Thief has always had a "nebulous and highly interpretable" narrative.) To the reviewer at IGN complaining of "flat, drab" characters… I can only assume they mean the color palette of the clothes worn by the peasants and the dark grittiness of the city. They can't mean the spoken dialog. (It's not as good as the old voice actor… but those are tough shoes to fill.) Is it "good enough?" I think so. However… in some places the lip sync is annoyingly off. (But since you are usually in dark environments you hardly ever notice.)… Expand

    This new Thief does a lot things right but can still be rather clumsy at times. Definitely worth trying, though. [Issue #240]
