In my opinion this is the best game of the franchise and i'm saying this as a fan of all three games. in terms of gameplay this game might have gone a little backwards compared to witcher 1 but in other terms it is still a very fun, deep and hard-to-forget game. probably the most sophisticated and grown-up rpg game in the last couple of years.

Truly a memorable experience and will certainly set a standard almost impossible for it's RPG kin to live up to. The game has shed a lot of it's more complex character development mechanics but only to make a more fluid combat experience, and a storyline that is just as immersive the original The Witcher. You are Geralt, you are tenacious, you are driven, and you are gallant.

The story of Geralt, a master monster slayer, is one rife with politics, adult themes, and intrigue. Right at the start the writing is stellar and written very well. No single character is an archetype, and everyone has a motive that may or may not help you. The element of choice surpasses even today's standards as a decision literally at the beginning of the game could literally send you down one of two vastly different paths throughout the rest of this 40+ hour adventure. This is also no game for children as topics of rape, murder, assassination, and torture are only some of the more mild ones, it makes other similarly rated mature games look like Disney films. Accompanying this game is a dynamic combat system that can swing both ways depending how far you get into the game. If you quit the game rather early, you would've had the impression that this game was frustrating and unforgiving. But the true fun lies with preparing for your battles through potions and reading up on enemy tactics. While not stellar and ultra responsive, the combat of using two swords and a dark souls-esque is welcome over the more vanilla combat system of the first Witcher game. With all I've said you would imagine The Witcher 2 to be a near flawless game but some real flaws hold the game back from achieving real greatness. For one the game is absolutely stunning as in it still makes the PCs of today work to run it even on high. Even then the game overkills with bloom effectively conveying a very fantasy tone but to me it looks rather odd. But among the most frustrating is the inventory and a lack of tutorial. The inventory at best is cumbersome and unintuitive. You'll eventually get used to it, but for the first few hours it can be a nightmare to handle. And the potion system for the most part is an integral part but without knowing what enemies you might face next, it becomes impossible to determine which potion you need for the next fight since you can only take them out of combat through meditation.
combine this with the lack of a fast travel system and you have a recipe for a bevy of problems that only irritate players. But for the most part, The Witcher 2 is an adult game that respects player choice and is a strong rpg in its own right and of 2011.

A great RPG, with mature non-linear story, interesting characters and stunning graphics and soundtrack.
It's a must for every RPG fan that likes his games to have a good story, likes the grim fantasy world and likes his choices to make a difference.
Witcher's issues are seriously minor, combat is more tactical than hack&slashy, and personally I had ever issue with the inventory system.

I just cant say enough good about this title. I know some people may dismiss the 10 rating as overly generous but thats not how I rate. This title is a solid 9.5 but I went 10 because its closer to 10 then 9.

THE ONLY ISSUE I had with The Witcher 2 was the Kayran fight. It was clearly designed with console controls in mind and thus is very hard to master using a keyboard.

Beyond that 1 instance, Brilliant game by a Brilliant developer (who is currently working on The Witcher 3 and Cyberpunk 2077).

There are multiple side quests in the game as well so there are multiple hours of time that can be put into the game as for replay value or a single run. There are multiple branching paths that change how your story and in some ways gameplay goes. The characters are as very entertaining in their own way. The universe is grim dark in many aspects with their being no one good side to say the least or one evil side. the story itself is relatively well written as well, one of the better pieces of writing in video games to come out in the modern times. As a down side though the gameplay is a complex RPG, yes, however, since many games nowadays are too easy to complete this might be one of the games advantages as well. To also admit yes the gameplay at times does at times get boring so I have to play different games but gameplay is not one of the things I care for majorly yet I see it's importance. Overall a 8.5 a great game and a near must buy for anyone. Expand

This is what story driven RPG's should be all about. Classic, tried and tested gameplay mechanics can be criticized for lack of ingenuity, but that isn't what Witcher2 is all about. I cannot stress HOW IMMERSED I WAS WITH THE CHARACTERS while I was playing the game. For example, I doubt that I am the first and only gamer to have fallen in love with Triss Merigold and I doubt that I will be the last. To sweeten the story, Witcher2 makes references to pop culture themes such as game of Thrones, Monty Python/WC3 (tiss only a flesh wound quote), and Lord of the Rings. These subtle additions make the gameplay all the more enjoyable in a dark and well thought out plot. The only downside to playing this game is that I was reading game of thrones at the same time and the combination of the two stories has led me to believe that human nature is a dark, twisted, and bloody corridor filled with people trying to sell you their brother's kidneys.

TL;DR: some bugs but great story and great game.

The Good: The Characters are amazing. Whether it be a companion of yours or an enemy, each character makes you feel strongly towards them and it adds a lot of immersion. They will make you feel a connection to them and some parts of the game will make you emotional because of them. The story is the best part imo. It's very detailed and thorough, and keeps you playing for hours on end. The atmosphere and the graphics are incredible. I was in awe when I first stepped foot into the world and saw the detail that was put into the enviroment. At some points it had me stop and stare at my surroundings. The voice acting for the most part is very good, and the music is epic to say the least. I really liked the crafting and alchemy system, along with the inventory. There is tons of items to craft and potions a' many to make. The arena mode is something I enjoyed for a few hours, and was fun enough to be put in "The Good".

The Bad: I have to say it, the combat is boring. Play on anything above easy and it turns into a roll spree with heavy attacks in between. It just isn't fun. The addition of 5 unique powers spices it up at first but quickly becomes stale as well. The game is quite difficult at some parts, but at others instead of being difficult, it felt more unfair and tedious, causing you to resort to cheap and boring tactics to progress. It felt clunky at times and that gets annoying. The combat is really what brought the game down from a 10 to an 8 for me, as I really didn't enjoy it. If you're looking for a good combat experience, look elsewhere. Asides from that, the last 30 or so minutes of the game could have been a lot better. The final fights felt less significant then they should have and I think they could have been done better.

Things that could improve: Please CD Projekt, I beg you, make Witcher 3 OPEN WORLD. Although there are tidbits of open area to explore, it didn't feel genuine and still felt very linear. I know the game isnt't supposed to be open but I really hope they add more exploration in the next game.

After playing 30 hours of Witcher 2, I will most likely come back and play another play-through at some point. This game is more than worth your money. If you come into it expecting a game like The Elder Scrolls, you will be dissapointed. If you come into it knowing it's a linear RPG, you will be greatly satisfied.

It's been a long time since a game this good came out, and the game is actually challenging at normal difficulty I haven't played a game that was a challenge at normal since Mirror's Edge.

The graphics are really good, even at low settings, and the cities and settlements are very well designed. NPCs are very believable and realistic. The story is good. All fetch quests are optional you would mostly do them if you want achievements or money, and money is pointless as you get the best weapons, etc. by exploring.

The atmosphere and story are great. Music is so-so, nothing remarkable but not bad either.

I wish the combat was a little better, you get mobbed and killed really quick if you slip up even a little I would have preferred a small number of tougher opponents in the open world, and the open world isn't much to speak of I would have liked a bigger world with more cool areas to explore, and maybe a unique area/boss at the end of a difficult path. The mobs on most paths aren't much fun, you don't really walk away from combat with a sense of accomplishment most of the non-story related battles (and even most of the story-related battles for that matter) feel like a chore. The game is somewhat linear and even in the open world, you can't jump but you can climb certain ledges at specific places designated by the developers. Overall, gameplay and combat aren't great. They are challenging so that is a plus point.

Finally, the game has QTEs but thankfully allows you to turn them off. I've finshed one playthrough of the game and am on my second one (Roche's path). The first playthrough was a lot of fun, and took me ~50 hours with a lot of mucking about exploring.

All in all, I must say that this is a pretty game, do pick it up if you haven't already.

I fell in love with the concept of the Witcher franchise after watching the Netflix adaption of the novels and decided to tackle the games. My thoughts after finishing The Witcher 2: Assassins of Kings Enhanced Edition are as follows -- how on Earth did this franchise make it to a third game?
I'm not trying be grouchy here. I'm genuinely interested in where the budget for the scope of this game's sequel came from. The first game, while I did have a fair amount of enjoyment in it, was certainly no crowd pleaser with its stilted combat system and, while it had a strong fanbase, it had no broad audience of consumers, surely. Yet enough so to fund this game, and this is where it really surprises me.
The 2nd game in this franchise is without a doubt suffering from middle child syndrome. The series hit its teen years and boy did it have an awkward time in high school. But enough beating around the bush: specifics, shall we?
Let's start with the narrative. By all the means the first act of this game created an intriguing setup. Mysterious assassins of your own order killing monarchs, but why? And as much as the bad guy is quite the charmer (not just me, right?) and there does exist a sense of political intrigue it falls short. The 2nd act is worthily lengthy, but seems to tackle other issues entirely. The plot, the fickle mistress it is, races back in the third act after its absence becomes noted too many times this semester and hands out all the answers in a 5 minute cutscene and 5 hour optional conversation with the final boss. If I could teach you one thing about plot pacing it should be this, the Witcher 2's pacing is a big no no. You get pulled in, dawdle around for 20 hours and then have the biggest info dump in the last hour before an unsatisfying conclusion. No no.
But awkward as it is, the story suffices for this rpg. Where the game really faults, is in the.. well.. the game. I can understand that some love this combat system for its difficulty, but hark I say. What a way to go about it. It's not difficult because of intelligent AI, enemy variation or puzzling scenarios to fight your way out of. No no. It's difficult because it's one piece a way from a collapsing Jenga tower. Movement in and out of combat is as far from 1 to 1 as a developer would dare go, which is made more noticeable by the fact that Geralt will get stuck on the tiniest root or pebble on the ground, particularly horrific in the jungle chapter where roots hidden by low brush abound. So good luck getting anywhere when an enemy is charging your kneecaps. Of course, you'll have to try anyway because dodge rolling like you were going down a steep hill covered in baby oil is the ultimate strategy to any fight. Blocking is as useless as a Virtual Boy emulator and you have to unlock countering later on if that's your fancy. So dodge roll all day, but you still won't get anywhere. Have fun.
Speaking of levelling. I'm still not entirely sure there is a levelling system in this game. Though there appears to be one on the surface, it seems to only be there to serve as narrative progress and not character progress. No representation of your hard work here. An entire side quest to kill a hive of monsters (as a witcher is like to do) will net you a tenth of a level, yet watch a few narrative important cutscenes and pick a couple of dialogue options and level up 3 times. It's not like it doesn't make any sense, but unsatisfying doesn't cut it. Try 'complete and utter trivialisation of your input in favour of a few cheap one liners and some side boob.' Then again, I'd value the latter over hard work any day.
Overall, unless you're really into tackling obtuse challenges or really into the witcher that you need to soak up as many white hairs as possible to make your biologically mutated brush blush, I'd steer clear of this one. And it's likely you already have if you'd played its sequel, The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt. There's no doubt that much of the audience that picked up that game for its critical and commercial success didn't bother to go back to these first two entries and if they did, many of them quit at the door. Which brings me back to my original question; how did the third game even happen? Now I haven't looked up the commercial success or development history of this entry to get my answer in order to maintain a false illusion of ignorance to give this review flair, but still...
The Witcher 2: Assassins of Kings doesn't value your input or time. It's a decent looking game discounting the ridiculous amount of bloom and contrast in sunny areas of the game that blind you like a quick gander at the sun... from 3 metres away. But otherwise, I cannot recommend this game.

Most game of this era have realistic graphics and it is no exception.

The only flaw in this game is its combat system which makes it pretty hard to kill multiple enemies.

I would've liked to have seen more moves available, but that's simply not the style they were aiming for. The music is also quite well done.

My only real qualm with this game is the graphics. The graphics seen in the trailers are truly immaculate, but you're required to have a phenomenal gaming computer to utilize the settings to provide those graphics. The minimum requirements will provide you 'low settings', while the recommended requirements will provide you 'medium settings', which are pretty terrible, and you'll still find lag and choppiness in movement. Every other game I play I'm able to utilize my 27" monitor's 2560 ×1440 resolution basically on high/very high. On this game, I can only run 1600x900 and it's still incessantly choppy.

As I said, other than that, great game.

This has the best cinematic graphics I have ever witnessed! It's a shame that an i7 can't handle the game properly even in low specs, but after playing a few arena games just to try it out, the combat system improved A LOT from the first Witcher to now, and the attacks are more juicy.

Although I didn't experience the story, I strongly recommend the game.

The Witcher 2 is a fantastic sequel to the first game and an overall great RPG.

This game has one of the most interesting stories I've seen. It will make question your own motives both as a player and as a person when confronted with the difficult choices the game presents you. The combat system has been completely remodelled resulting in more interesting and harder sword fights.

It is annoying to use, and gives very little information. Tracking multiple quests at a time is also needlessly difficult. As someone who really enjoys doing side quests and trying to do everything a game has to offer, at some points in the game I felt so frustrated with the quest tracking and quest system that I just gave up on them entirely and only followed the main story. The stealth in the game is also just terrible. It looks and feels like it was scrapped together as a last minute idea, and I think the game would be better off without it just because of how dull and uninspired it is. While this game has a lot of great things, these few issues have frustrated me to the point where I just don't want to continue playing. Expand

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. I am a fan of the Witcher series since I've read the books back in 2005 or so (and this fact really helped enjoy the game better) however even if you haven't read the books - this is a very good RPG in itself.

    The pros:
+ Excellent graphics. Slightly different than in Witcher-1, and generally a bit better, as expected of a newer game.
+ The combat system got improves since Witcher 1 - here it is MUCH more dynamic. No more click-rythm, instead you have to evade, block, and counterattack within tight moments after enemy attacks - to win a fight. It has a pretty good learning curve.
+ In general - the game is quite difficult, even on Medium, and that's after having beaten Witcher-1 relatively easily.
+ The nice "dark fantasy" world remains. Elves get racially discriminated against, town guards take drugs as bribes, and use said drugs... Witches are trying to survive the ignorant mod that fears and hates them.
+ Triss. Deserves an individual notion :-) From the start to the finish of W-2, there's more interaction with her here than in Witcher-1, where she was just one of many interactable characters.
+ Interesting characters in general. Each has personality. They are explored more than in W-1.
+ No "good vs. evil" - just a lot of people (and other creatures) with their conflicting goals, feels and wants.
+ With the above said - often you can decide who to help and how to judge those around you. You even decide whether a king gets to live or not!
+ Not a lot of grinding, if any, for better gear. In fact you start out with quite decent gear: a Witcher's Steel and Silver sword, and not until quite late in the game can you find a weapon that's better.
+ No **** quests like "go hunt 10 squirrels and bring me the furs". Most quests are backed with a story that something really bad happened, and only a Witcher can help the person in need.
+ The quests feel on-the-spot, relevant to the situation. So unlike Commander Shepard saving the galaxy, and then being told to deal with some scumbags that stole something from a merchant, or the Inquisitor in Dragon Age looking for a lost cow.

    Cons:
    - Importing a save from Witcher-1 has minimal impact. Your imported weapons that were superior to anything in W-1 are there but they are inferior to many footsoldier weapons, for example. Same goes for your crafted Raven Armor. Didn't notice much plot contect that was linked back to W-1.
    - The locations aren't big. In fact they are kinda small.
    - Many rocks and static objects were copy-pasted around the levels in the most shameless way.
    - Can't jump/retreat during combat.
    - Often combat is initiated by a cutscene that puts you in a bad position. Sometimes you can tell what's gonna happen and wish you had control of the character, but no.
    - The cutscenes where you do have some limited control of the character - suck even more, because you have to do something, but can't do what you normally wanna do, and are forced to figure out what the heck does this particular cutscene wants you to click and when. Ugh!
    - Potions last 10 or 20 minutes of ingame time. No more long-term buffs.
    - Balance issue: the fire spell Igni is so overpowered that, once maxed out - turns into some Infernal Flamethrower of Doom that can be used as your sole weapon at defeating ANY and all enemies, including bosses. This pretty much defeats the purpose of learning to use the sword effectively - which is very challenging in a good way.
    - Unless you do side quests a lot - the game feels much shorter than W-1. High diversity of replayability though - depending on which side you choose the playthrough can be very different.

But overall the cons are minor, and this is a great game, highly recommend to both fans of the Witcher world, as well as people looking for a good RPG in general!

Is the game good? Yes. It's a flawed gem of a game and one that could well have been one of the best RPG's ever made, if it wasn't for one thing: the combat. The combat is either shallow and dreadfully easy on "Easy", or absolutely impossible on "Normal". "Normal" is really hard mode and they need another difficulty in-between.

Putting that aside, pretty much everything else in the game is good. Graphically it looks very pretty when maxed out for a game this old.

Having never played Witcher 1, I found it's not very beginner friendly with regards to the story - but then I kind of expected that anyway. Nevertheless, if you have not played the previous game, expect to be confused... a lot. When you finally get your head round it you will find it has significant depth and is highly engaging.

Your companions all have back stories of their own and they are well fleshed out. Not many games have had me caring for characters I have only spent a minimal amount of time with in game, but this one got me!

The RPG elements are solid and allow for quite a bit of customisation. It has an interesting potion mechanic, based on your "toxicity level", so you can't just swig every potion you have before a fight.

So, all in all, it's a good game. It could have been brilliant if a few issues were resolved. Regardless of which, it has made me want to get Witcher 3 this February, so consider me hooked!

Yes, I had to pick a side, but even after I picked that side they didn't much like me and I didn't much like them, we just needed each other for a brief time. The fact that a video game could carry that type of tension this well was incredible.
The story unfolds gradually and each reveal feels important, interesting, and distinct. I never felt hurried by the plot, and the side quests all felt like something my Geralt would do. Combat is difficult without feeling like the game is cheating, which is important to me for game play. Some games you lose a fight and you say "oh comon, there's nothing I could have done about that" but in this game, every time I died I swore a few times and tried again because I knew it was my fault, not the game's, that I had died.
I could hardly ask for a better game experience. The only reason I don't think it was perfect is because the combat, while difficult in all the right ways, did eventually feel repetitive. I kept taking the same potions every time, doing the same dodges, and firing off the same spell, or sign. Even though there are a lot of different possibilities, I played on the hardest difficulty and it felt like there was only ever one combination of things that gave me the best chance. It was still exciting and difficult to pull off, and the game didn't drag on so long that I felt completely bored by that combat, but it was repetitive nonetheless.

Overall an excellent game, and I will likely play through again to make some decisions differently than I did the first time. I may turn down the difficulty to save time though!

Slightly shorter then the first Witcher yet more satisfying. The Witcher 2: Assassins of Kings expands off the first game evolving in many ways and creating a more enjoyable game. Ill cover some of the positive changes and some negative ones through the review while also covering the topics I generally do.

Story: Spanning over 3 chapters and a Epilogue you are continuing off the ending of the Witcher. Each chapter is perfectly paced, but takes a huge drop on the amount of quests. Compared to the first game having numerous contracts and side quests to contend with the main story, you only have 3-4 side quests each chapter. With the downside of lacking side material, the main story is involving enough for it to not really matter. Making you want to keep pushing the main story forward. Along the story you are presented with a handful of choices giving the series a boost to replay value.

Gameplay: Have to throw first mention to the combat overhaul. A completely different combat system to the first game, yet it infuriates me. Combat has such a difficulty curve from the start. You are presented with all these options of different signs but only 1 stands out above the rest and becomes the only viable option if you wish to push on. Shield and roll, roll roll roll and roll. You also have to be mindful when rolling because you can block yourself into a corner and be destroyed into oblivion. At one point I was fighting a golem and had it one hit away from death, a miss judged roll landed me into a corner and the stoned behemoth did a rush attack into me and kept me there. Slamming my face into the ground over and over again. Was not pretty.
Alchemy, potions, herbs, crafting. All that is present again for the Witcher to indulge in but you are restricted to a inventory weight limit. Things stack up quickly and prevent you from hoarding materials. Having to meditate before you can drink potions was aggravating. Couple of situations when I needed that vitality boost and couldn't use my stash in combat.
Arm wrestling = Stupid. Dice Poker = Fun. They also changed how the fist fighting works. No longer is it challenging and fun. It now switched to a simply one button command when prompted, removing any sense of difficulty. Granted the moves Geralt performs during the fights are entertaining to watch.

The combat can be hard, but can also be rewarding. It feels a little clunky and is full of rolling and dodging but I still think it is much better than combo-clicking from the first game.
But it is not the combat I liked the most, but the story. As a witcher, you find yourself tangled in the middle of the political intrigue. There will be kings and sorceress, powerful people and war hanging in the air. You have to decide which side to chose. And this choice matters a lot. You will miss almost half of the game with that choice. And to be honest - I played this game three times just to find out what I missed - that's how good this game is.

Voice acting FAVOLOSO.

Huge improvement over the first game in terms of gameplay. The combat is a ton of fun. The story is again very good and the choices you use have a HUGE impact on how the story plays out. There are 2 completely different paths for chapter 2 based on choices you make. Amazing game and one of my all time favourites.

Immersive. The Witcher 2: Assassin of Kings is one of those games that you'd really feel getting into. The protagonist and other characters are great, the voice acting is fantastic -- it's action-packed and offers a great story experience. But too much of one thing sometimes kills; as the game is clustered with excessive exploration, dialogues, and puzzles - it ruins the flow of the game.

Witcher 2 is a fantastic RPG game has very good storytelling and characters, I beat this game before beating Witcher 3.

I just recently went back to play Witcher 2 and the game is just still so much fun to play, however after playing Witcher 3 one thing I have come to actually not like in Witcher 2 is the regenerative health.

The combat system is really good - a bit of dexterity and strategy is required to perform. The combination is just right. You need to keep in mind which sword you use - iron for humans and silver for monsters. The signs in certain situation prove a great help while in others are pretty useless. The use of potions also adds to the strategy level of the combat. It's not just mouse clicker - where you select enemy and click constantly. You need to dodge, use throwables and time your attacks just right. This is probably the best part of the game.

The story is really good and makes you care about the choices you do make. I'm not a fan though of the Sapkowski world entirely - some dialogues do break the character of the setting and make you remember this is a game (i.e. when elf says "Piece of lembass" and shrugs it when asked for details). This is not the game developers fault but the witcher author and it is just something that doesn't feel right for me - other people might and probably have different opinion.

Voice acting is well done, although a bit too vulgar in my opinion - but again that is witcher's novels trademark so I can't blame game developers for it.

The levelling up system does provide quite a few options. Shame the game does not have enough content to upgrade everything. But that makes for interesting choices.

Overall really did enjoy the game and it's story. Would without problem recommend this title to any cRPG enthusiast.

at first glance it was the clunky gameplay, i did think, but now i realize it is the low level of fantasy. you are talking to humans most of the time. the elves... pointy eared humans. dwarves... short humans. the enemy types are generic and simply just boring to fight! totally fine to forget. the presentation reminds me of a rpg in the dark ages of europe with some boring(!) fantasy thrown in. i like fantasy but i do not like the world of the witcher. the fantasy aspect is too low for me to be invested into this talking simulation. no story to visualize but lots of talk. the story could be one of a 2 parts tv movie with some minor fantasy effects for good measures. sorry, it is very boring to me. the unepic story does not catch me at all! gameplay slightly better than witcher 1 but still.......... climbing gives me headaches, no jumping, invisible walls, messy to center objects, wanted posters next to gates i unintentionally click all the time. makes me really bugged to think of! good graphics, flawed gameplay, lame story/world. i really struggled with W1 and sadly was very disappointed with this game.

The combat is far superior to the first game, but rather stiff compared to the 3rd. Beautiful soundtrack, as per in the Witcher series.

Has its age and limitations, but in the atmosphere, storyline, character design and things like that, it is unmatched, even by Witcher 3 that did many great things but many strange things too. Witcher 2 is more consistent and polished. Definitely one of those games I will always remember and come back to them once per few years with a smile on face.

Linear in travel without any 'fast travel' feature can be annoying, especially because of the environmental pop ins that take away some of the immersion. This is NOT a casual game, it takes effort from the player to want to know about it and its secrets to really capture what the developers wanted to express. Be prepared to listen a lot throughout your adventure, these npc have plenty to say. If you are not in the mood, it could be a drag at times. I liked to just focus on the main story and ignore the side missions. 20 hours in and I am still having a blast.

Sound and visuals are fairly pleasing enough for a game of this time. The VA is mostly a mixed bag, The main playable character VA is so monotone dull. Oh wow lots of edgy swearing and vulgar dialogue. Not really warming to the increased edge lord vibe of this game world.

Combat yeah was ok I suppose. Very fluid and flashy looking, but how did you know when to take buff potion and what type is beyond me? As I could only use a buff potion before a fight and who knows when the hell they was going to happen/trigger? Which did lead to some scum saving now and again oh well.

What the hell was still going on with the steal/mechanic as in this game has none. No new innovation just the same as the first game. Anything can be taken under the eyes of the NPC without any come back. Trying to loot in this one is so super annoying. With constant fiddly adjustments to the camera angle to try and get the pick up icon to trigger.

A flexible RPG allows for stealth any time any where so if you get caught you can A) fight your way out or B) run away like a sissy. Nope stealth is scripted to only certain missions with instant death on fail.

This game does have some really jaw dropping moments. I like the new combat on a conceptual level, but the execution is not that great. The rest is just more of the first Witcher mechanics. With the dialogue dialled up to way more edge lord status and the new addition of mission based crappy stealth mechanics. For all its flaws and edge I still had way more fun in this than I thought I would. So go figure hey?

Good music, colorful and most importantly memorable characters, some branches passing over different sides of the conflict, so that the first passage all the picture to see fail. Interesting and intricate plot, in this part, has been completely put on the policy. Disclosure of certain events from the first part, more information about "the wild hunt(gun)". And perhaps the coolest part, which provides us with not only old friends, but true friends, companions and our second half (so to speak). Exciting journey, an intriguing story, sincere characters, good jokes and funny situations and that's not all that awaits the one who will hit the road in search of the Assasins of Kings.

Yes, the graphics and voice acting are good. The intro cinematic is one of the best I have seen in video games. Story is good enough and the script writing is top notch. However, in terms of “gameplay”, Witcher 2 is terrible. The game makes you feel like a mouse in a labyrinth because very often, you can only walk within pre-set boundaries. Combat is overall quite boring and there is not much monster variety. Overall gameplay can be described as watching long cutscenes, running to a quest marker, get involved in a tedious combat, do some QTEs and loot stuff that you will probably never need. It also doesn’t help every chapter is worse than the previous one.

This is a game with a good story and narrative but poor gameplay. I was planning to play Witcher 3 right after this one. The Witcher 2 changed my mind.

The story is amazingly detailed, with a lot of side plots, never predictable twists and turns, and also keep the player engaged and entertained all the way through.
The game developers this time really outdid themselves by creating a masterpiece of it's time and also a legendary RPG which aged very well through time. They upped the game engine as well, for those beautiful views and well rendered textures. The inventory and character pages had some minor faults and annoyances, which could have been avoided but they don't really impact the game's flow. The HUD was minimal but very well optimized.
The graphics and animations of this game are stunning and still look good 8 years after release. The music is really outstandingly fitting and emerges the player even more in the world, because of the original sound tracks CD Project came out with, collaborating with artists. The sound effects where a little off the right foot some times, but this fact can be very well overlooked for the better looking visual effects as mentioned before. The characters and NPC's gestures and animations in conversations where sometimes didn't fit and where not right for the moment and made a couple of funny conversations. But the voice acting was very well done with all the accents and pronunciations. The writing was amazing as well with all the little details, with the dark and sarcastic humor which made for some amazing moments, and for the serious scenes where the tension could really be felt and lived in. It really made the feel of the dark fantasy feeling of the world come to life.
The AI and level design was really polished as well, don't really have anything to point at, except for a couple of enemy Endregas running off while still engaged, which eventually ends up being annoying. All game mechanics work as intended and depending on the difficulty of the game this time around non of it is left out and the player really needs to use them, and even the book reading is valued a lot more than in the first entry of this series. I honestly had no bugs with the game over my 50+ hours play-through and not one single glitching texture or crash either.
All the new features work very well, and all are innovative and useful so prompts there as well for the development team. The gameplay this time around is more like a breathing RPG and hit& dodge system is really rewarding if used correctly. All the other aspects of the gameplay are just as polished as the cover of the game. There are not really any significant collectibles or achievements which I really missed but given the fact that this game is really strict scripted and very linear with multiple branchings I guess that explains why they could not include any. But it still would have been nice to see some memos.
Overall this is an EPIC/Legendary RPG and an amazing game in all other aspects which really makes the universe of Sapkowski lived in and immersive and most importantly entertaining. I can hardly find any cons about the game, because all of them are so minor and are overshadowed by overwhelming amount of pros and great things that this studio is pushing the industry towards. (At that time as well as in the present) Also the greatest and most complex morality system Iv'e seen in games.

This was a fun but overall unpolished game with a lot of flaws. The positives is that I really liked the story, the quests and overall feeling of the game and that the characters were interesting… and that’s about it.

The negatives on the other hand are numerous. The combat for example is simply not fun. It offers no complexity and feel very clunky. And in an RPG such as this it’s a huge flaw.

And the game fails multiply times in its attempt to be an adult game. This is something a lot of people have praised the game for but I on the other hand feel is laughable (though the Witcher 3 does a great job in this area). When the game tries to be mature, cool or edgy I usually face palm or start shaking my head or straight our start laughing. It feels like some scenes are written by young teenagers. And its attempt to be mature ends up feeling very juvenile. Having adult content is not the same as having a mature game. It’s how you use the content that matters. Letting two adults have sex all of a sudden because it’s cool is one example of how the adult content makes the game feel immature instead.

Other negatives in the game are:
    - Bad UI
    - Stale facial animations
    - Bad sound mixing
    - Bad pacing in the story
    - The Potion system is terrible
    - Many reused character models
    - The game is short
    - Bad transitions in/out of cutscenes
    - Bugs

Even though it has its flaws, the story and the quests and characters made it a fun experience. But it could have been so much better than it was.

    Awesome game.

I started it with zero expectations and was blown away of how complex it really is. Hands down one of the best RPG-s i've ever played.

More than a worthy sequel for The Witcher.
A big improvement in this game is the combat, much more modern and fast, but it is very punishing and the biggest problem is that Geralt has a wide range of animations for fast attack and another for strong attack and the game decides which one to choose RANDOMLY! That means getting hit because the animation chosen was not the one the player

That means getting hit because the animation chosen was not the one the player wanted.
The fact that you can import your decision from the first game to this one is SO F****** COOL! Makes you feel that you impacted the world and now is just following the story that you began, it really feels amazing.
The story is a great mystery with a lot of thing to discover, and twists to unravel, all in all a very good story that feels grounded in this universe but still it is not as memorable or as good as the first one. It's definetely not bad, grandier and with more worldly impacts but less personal in a sense.
The music and sound keeps the same beat (hihi) as the first one. The voice-acting in this series is top notch and every character feels himself in this universe.
The graphics are the second biggest improvement, with more money to spend after the first one the team could focus a bit more on this aspect and makes this game a lot better to watch and appreciate.
The biggest improvement is definetely just a well rounded more polished game, a lot of risks were taken in the first one, and a lot could just barely be done to be noticeble, in this one all of them were continued and had much more time to develop, the details of everyday life or simply what already exists and will keep existing after geralt are what makes this universe so appealing.

The Witcher 2 easily stands amongst the big boys in the CRPG crowd and is also the best Action RPG to come out since Mass Effect 2.

The Witcher 2 offers awesome sword fights, cool graphics, charming characters, a compelling story, lots of bare skin and a decent shot of vulgar conversations. Damn good.
