If you're looking for a new RTS and don't have high expectations, you can spend your time here with an extensive campaign. Multiplayer doesn't have enough players and it hardly gets any better.

The Valiant is a good squad-based RTS with a compelling campaign, superb graphics and a wealth of modes to enjoy. However, it would have benefitted from a deeper base-building mechanic and a smoother difficulty curve at times. It’s a valiant effort worthy of your time and attention, but it falls just short of justifying the Holiest of crusades.

The Valiant is a serviceable, squad-based RTS that serves up some usually well-balanced sword-clanging action for its heroes and their small bands of merry men, though it wears a bit thin once it’s evident how repetitive and backtrack-heavy the battles can get. There’s a sturdy story to drive it forward, though it too is let down at the last moment by an ill-considered final battle that renders all your decision-making throughout the campaign worthless. And while The Valiant does have multiplayer, don’t count on being able to find any opponents to clash with online.

The one packaged by Kite Games is a formula full of proposals, appreciable by the admirers of the real-time strategy, especially in the medieval setting, which, however, would certainly have benefited from further study and care. After all, the playful recipe works but does not impress, accomplices of the constituent elements unable to interact better with each other. In other words, what The Valiant offers is an experience with a good dose of unexpressed potential, both from a narrative and a technical point of view.

The Valiant's story is actually pretty interesting, but the gameplay (one of the core aspects of strategy titles) is just very middling. From unit issues like pathing and not all of them fighting, to the fact that there's not much to really do, and the very "samey" combat unfortunately side-line the story. This feels a little too unpolished to have been released yet.

Valiant tries to surprise with its crusade setting and multiplayer modes, but it has serious narrative problems and a gameplay approach that doesn't feel fresh in any way. Throw in a lot of crashes and lag, and the result is rather hard to recommend. [Not recommended]

What a trashy unbalanced game you only have a few soldiers (only 5 squads most of the time) and you have to fight huge armies that spawn outWhat a trashy unbalanced game you only have a few soldiers (only 5 squads most of the time) and you have to fight huge armies that spawn out of thin air so many stupid limitations and the micromanagement is just horrible. Gameplay reminds me of some old games from 1995, but this is far worse and the lacking of tactical pause, and you can't manually save makes everything a pain. Completely unplayable after a mission where the game throws veteran armies against you in a timely manner, and you have to defend a tree. Horrible gameplay made for masochists. Full Review »
