so, i've ignored the bad steam reviews, the negative comments, and wanted to give this game a try because it has "survival" in its name. after more than twenty hours, i have to say that ... it is one of the worst survival and crafting games in my recent memory. yes, highly subjective, i know. i've been wondering what the biggest issue is, and i think that it is not so much the lack ofso, i've ignored the bad steam reviews, the negative comments, and wanted to give this game a try because it has "survival" in its name. after more than twenty hours, i have to say that ... it is one of the worst survival and crafting games in my recent memory. yes, highly subjective, i know. i've been wondering what the biggest issue is, and i think that it is not so much the lack of content, though this is a problem, but actually the bad ui and especially the horrible monkey npc controls and mechanics. the more i think about it, the more i believe that the survivalists has a game design issue that will be not solved easily, or any time. i mean, sometimes a bad game remains a bad game, no matter what you do. the survivalists could become in time such a bad game design example. It's rather below average than bad. As you've probably seen on Steam already, where it has today a rating of 50 %, most reviews are about a horrible UI, the tedious monkey control and management, and a lack of content. After 2-3 h you are done with the game. For a survival game, the game is not challenging at any time, except when the UI is not doing what you expect it to do. So, for an Early Access it would be a good base but for a full release? A disaster. I've checked the credits. It's a team of 30-40 people. How did such a big team miss so many points? What was the UI lead and the producer doing? This should not have happened. And it is confusing how many game magazines rated this game so high. It must have been journalists who do not care about survival games. Expand

I'm enjoying it. I'm a bit of a sucker for 32-bit crafting games like this (loved Starbound) so that factors in, and no, it's not redefining the genre but it's straightforward and the monkey aspect is rather innovative and keeps the juggling act entertaining and engaging. Not sure why these hyper critical users are scoring it at 0 and 1, etc. when it's really not bad at all. I haven't runI'm enjoying it. I was going to rate it at 7 but I feel this overall rating needs help so I gave it an 8... Let us know how YOU like it. Expand

We played The Survivalists, because it is a very interactive multiplayer game, with pixelated graphics, good soundtrack and great gameplay, with an open world with several challenges, from wild animals to enemies, which in this case are goblins, to attack them. Online, we are able to explore mines with traps that give us rewards at the end.

The main feature of the game - the Monkeys turned out to be extremely bad, it's easier to play without them than with them! It is difficult to interact with them when I pick up loot from the floor, the monkeys get in the way and I constantly exchanged predmats with the monkeys instead of picking up loot. this is very annoying!
It is very difficult to give a specific task to one monkey, when choosing one for some reason, several more are selected near it...
With difficulty setting up the chain of production on the base, it periodically broke down and worked when it should not have, on the prrmer when the meat ran out, the monkey continued to light a fire just like that by burning wood, as it was with the stove and coal...
Sometimes after the death of the character, the monkeys ran to the place of rebirth, and sometimes they left everything and scattered all over the island... Then it took a very long time to collect them again and assign tasks again. Several times after re-entering the game, the monkeys also gave up their classes and scattered, on the big island you can spend half an hour to get everyone together again...
Why do we need these idiotic forays borrowed from other games? My ass is already burning from what is happening in the game and then when I'm at the other end of the map my base is being raped by enemies and I can't do anything about it, when I return I find destroyed buildings...
Moving around the world is slow and very boring! I spent more time walking and swimming than other aspects of the game!
At first glance there is a lot of crafting but most of the buildings are useless and in a couple of hours you can open all the available recipes and further exploration of the world becomes meaningless and not interesting
BUSHES SHOULD NOT BLOCK THE WAY! THEY SHOULD SLOW DOWN THE PLAYER...

This is the most wasted hours of time and$25!
Unfortunately this is not an early access but a full release...

I love survival games. Being stranded on an island, having to build a new community, collecting resources, everything. But this game.. I tried really hard to love it. I played the whole night, and even read tips and tricks on how to make it more interesting but, nah.

The monkeys are so hard to control, for example, I assign them a task of attacking enemies, I wasn't even near an enemy but one of them went astray and attacked a boar. I wasn't paying attention to it then I discovered he got killed by the wild boar. Mind you, I was travelling to another island. I didn't have the right equipment or gear to teach him again how to fight enemies so the rest of the trip, I had to go find him while he wandered around, just to bring him back to my base and teach him how to fight again.
I don't get it how we can't just assign tasks to him when we've already taught them once. I wrongly selected a monkey to teach and just had to wait until the time is over so that the other monkey won't lose his current assigned role. I don't get it. The monkeys could be a really fun part of the game, I find it really enjoyable having to travel to other islands and meeting other monkeys. But then I realise, having more than 4 in the same place is a headache.
We can't have the same monkey collecting resource for the cooking pot/ crafting bench for building. So one monkey was busy collecting what the crafting bench made and the other wanted that for building blueprints so it was havoc. I had no clue how to make it even more systematic.
I couldn't even reach the 24 hour mark of playing this game. Don't get me wrong, I love open-world game the best. It's my fav concept of a game ever and The Survivalists seem like going in the right direction, but somehow crashed. I was about to rate the game 0 but realised I did enjoy some parts of it so a score of 1 is sufficient.

The game is really good but at the same time really buggy, When I tried to craft something the crafting thingy got stuck and I couldn't craft anymore, and when I tried to rejoin I couldn't do anything except for walking and switching tools that wasn't really helpful but overall a really good game

It’s a lot of fun with friends, but it lacks something in single-player. I definitely recommend picking this up if you’re looking for something new to play in co-op or if you want to try out the survival genre in general. However, it lacks some of the satisfaction of other games in the genre. That being said, the monkey system is incredibly cool and the game is almost worth playing for that alone.

In an industry that has shifted from being “kid-friendly” to “adult-focused,” it’s imperative to remember that some games simply won’t work for the more aged gamers (30 is aged, right?). That’s not to say The Survivalists won’t resonate with adults — if this is your cup of banana smoothie, by all means — but it seems to be trying to speak with a younger audience. If you’re lamenting that school has started and you can’t devote as many hours to Minecraft with friends as you’d like, you’re probably going to love The Survivalists.

Well, that’s a disappointment: After The Escapists 1+2, we were looking forward to the next game set in the same universe. The Survivalists, however, can’t hold a candle to its predecessors. The gameplay is broken in more ways than we can count, there are plenty of design flaws which makes you wonder how anybody couldn’t have seen how irritating they are and nevertheless, the game is way too short and way too easy. Such a pity.
