I can't say I'm too surprised to see the ratings of this game. I have played the Sims since the first game and with every new main entry (not expansion pack or spin-off) there's always been enough improvements to blow me away. After nearly 3 years the Sims 3 is still my preferred Sims game. We have had a few expansions for the Sims 4, but even they're shallow. I.e. Get to Work does not have anywhere near as much content as Ambitions did for the Sims 3 and there is literally NO comparison between City Living for the Sims 4 and the fantastic Late Night for the Sims 3. This has now convinced me that the problem with Sims 4 is in its foundations and is inherent to the game itself and no amount of DLC will be able to make up for the inherent problems of no open world, no story progression (other families getting married, promoted, having kids etc), no Create a Style, where you could change the colour and textures of anything.

Yes, we have toddlers, pools and ghosts now but those are minor details compared to the huge inherent aspects which were lost from the Sims 3. The Sims 4 still feels rushed and unfinished.

In my opinion, overall, it is such a shame that the Sims 4 exists, especially in such a popular franchise. Maybe this has helped EA to come to their senses that they can't continue to scam us out of our money just because the Sims is so popular globally. The only people I find who love the Sims 4 are those who are playing it as their first Sims game. You know what I tell those people? Play Sims 3; it's much better.

There ARE elements to the Sims 4 that are good such as the emotion system and updated graphics from the Sims 3. Sims seem more alive and I have to be honest I did legit enjoy my first few days with it. But after the magic wore off, I started to get bored... REAL bored. Everything feels like its made out of cardboard. Yeah, pretty to look at but no substance there. I'm not in a town, I'm in a house with a picture of a town in the background. Those arnt cars going by, that's not a train rolling down the tracks, its just window dressing. its all fake and it does NOTHING. I also have to admit that I kept hearing certain sim fans saying that its not fair to compare the sims 4 to any sims 3 expansion because its a base game. To that I say I DO in fact compare many aspects of the sims 4 to every part of the sims 3 because I PAID for all that **** I spend hundreds of dollars on all those expansions over the years starting with the Sims 1 and I would at least expects a FEW things from previous expansions to be in 4 like weather, or pets, or anything else that I already paid Maxis for 3 times already. This game isn't a step forward, its not even a step sideways, its a giant step back. I give the Sims 4 a few points for entertaining me with what it did right but in the end, Its not worth it. Go play the Sims 3. Expand

However, EA's horrible tactic of releasing overpriced expansion packs is still infuriating. Expand

There are just so many choices which i can't imagine were approved by a brain-equipped creature. The same like with sim city, they wanted a reboot but got destroyed by the concurrence (cities skyline) which was better in simply every single imaginable way. Shame on you Maxis, you are trying to make games for everyone but are forgetting about the people which fed you by buying your games!

Prácticamente todo el juego parece una involución de la anterior entrega. Todo es peor, todo tiene peor editor, menor tamaño, sin opciones de personalización.

Sims 4 is a nice game, as long as the player is new or just a player that does not expect it to be like Sims 3 and better.

Most reviews on here that are negative, are from players that when they got in their hands the initial game, were disappointed to see that a lot of things were changed and in a way downgraded. By now Sims players knows that Sims 4 is more like a new version of Sims 2, rather than of Sims 3. The open-world part of the game was removed and now even if you want to visit a neighbor, you have to wait for a load screen. The map is split in neighborhoods, with each neighborhood having a couple of different buildings (houses and shops), but no matter what, you will see a loading screen when you even go to the next door house. I feel that is the biggest change from Sims 3 to Sims 4, indeed making it feel like Sims 2.

I have no idea why people seem to find weird, the direction of Sims 4 being heavy DLC oriented. Sims 3 was and is THE game most people use a joke, when it comes to expansions and DLC and how games sell basic functions, along with some content. If someone went to buy all the content of Sims 4 from the Origin store right now, they would spend about 270 euro. It still has wait to catch up to the 580 euro cost of Sims 3 and all it's expansions.

As a game I find it really nice and enjoyable. Sims can multitask, which I think it's the best point of it and you can see them squeeze close to others and move between others. I always hated how in SIms 3 and before, it felt like Sims were taking a large square around them, making it impossible for anyone else to pass. Now they move more fluidly.

But always keep in mind; this is a downgrade from Sims 3. Even if the mechanics and physics work better, everything else feels lacking. It has some details lacking, that will make you feel like something goes wrong and it is missing. Like for example there is not firemen anymore and for the lack of firefighters, they added a second fire alarm that has sprinklers.

Of course It has to be pointed out that even after 2+ years, the game is very buggy and at times I feel it is more buggy than Sims 3. Then again, there are not more pathfinding problematic maps.. since there are no maps in general.

Really mixed feelings on Sims 4, when compared to Sims 3, but when compared to Sims 2, the game is great.

I just, I just, I just tried so hard to enjoy this game. But after 10 minutes, I fall asleep. Nothing is taking me on, the game just seems so bland and lifeless. I have played Sims 1 and I can say with certainty it is far better than this. I just don't know what happened, but its terrible. I have played Sims 2 for a short time and that surpasses this game too. Somethings wrong with this game.

For instance, they don't have toddlers like they had in the sims 3 and they don't have some expansions that they had in the previous games, but there will be more to come in the future. I love how the Create-a-sim is different and all they new things like that were included in the game. The fixed the horrendous, purposefully bad (they do this to get you to buy the next Sims game) load times of the Sims 3!

Not a horrible game, but the problem with The Sims 4 is that The Sims 3 and 2 came before - and they're better.
    First the pros:

    - The graphics are beautiful, the sims are more cartoony but they don't have that pudding face they suffered from in TS3. But it is a cartoony art style, keep that in mind
    - Multitasking is fun and allows for more realistic simulation. You can watch TV on the treadmill while talking to your friends.
    - The emotions are a new feature, but I find them a mixed bag. One one side, they make the sims more vivid, but on the other, they make all of them react the same way to everything. It is a neat feature, nonetheless.
    - The game is more stable and easier on computers than TS3.

    The cons:
    - There is no toddler life stage (babies go directly to a child and are confined to the crib), teens, young adults, adults and elders all have the same height
    - The are no Create-a-Style or Create-a-Pattern tools, meaning you cannot customize objects and clothes like before. All you can do is choose from premade options by the developers. No way to customize hair or eye color either, you can only choose from the options they give.
    - The world is closed, there is no open world. The base game comes with two worlds, each containing some neighbourhoods inside, witharound 3-5 lots inside each. Your sim can walk freely inside these neighbourhoods, but cannot freely visit the lots. That means: if you want to visit your neighbour's house, close by your house, you have to go through a loading screen.
    - The worlds are also 100% fixed, meaning they are not editable in any sort of way. In TS2, wqe could add and move lots arounds, add neighbourhood decorations as we pleased. In TS3, the worlds were also almost completely editable, and there are hundreds of custom player-created world to download. In The Sims 4, you can't even move the lots. You can't touch the world. And there is no tool to create a new one. So if you want to create new worlds for your stories, well, you won't.
    - Sims now have only 3 trait slots, ands the selection of traits is pretty limited. Also, traits feel very watered down and sims don't usually behave like their traits say they should. Mostly, the way they behave is overcome by the emotions system, making every sim feel less unique.

Overall, I think this game is really mediocre. It was a very disappointing experience for me; it isn't horrible, but it isn't good and there are barely any features in it that make it more worth buying than The Sims 3 or 2. As of now, there's been 2 years since the base game launched, and the expansions and stuff packs released didn't do anything to change the cons I've pointed. So, I wouldn't recomend this game. I say, go buy TS3 and skip TS4.

I think it's harsh that some critics say there is violence in the game. There is no blood, nothing is broken and (my personal feeling) fights are extremly rare and again, look comic.

The Create-a-Sim is very intuitive and super easy to use, the emotions are a great game mechanic (I actually didn't know that they haven't been in a Sims game up until now), and creating homes is surprisingly simple, which is very high praise coming from me.

Yes, there are areas in which this game could be improved (make it a bit more open, for one), and yes, you may get bored after a while and have to use mods to make it better, but come on, people, this isn't worth a 0. This isn't worth anywhere from a 0-5. As a newcomer to The Sims series, I'm giving this a 9.

While an enjoyable title that has been polished up and seems generally very modern, it cannot be expected that The Sims 4 is not going to be compared to The Sims 3. In this respect, it seems that while the game took a few steps forwards, it also took a few steps backwards by abandoning features that were very helpful and appreciated in the previous versions. It does have new features that people have been waiting for, such as emotions and more personality for the Sims. As for now, for some players it may not quite be worth to abandon The Sims 3 for it, but for new players looking for a first experience with the franchise, they may have an easier time navigating than former The Sims 3 players. People that have previously enjoyed the latter may be disappointed by the menus (Sim creation, building, or navigating town), as they have been so massively oversimplified that they are now actually confusing.

How would you react if you bought a new Elder Scrolls game and realized that half of the cities are unavailable (because TES6: World Adventures is around the corner), there are only 4 weapons (TES6: Accessories), you can’t ride horses (TES6: Pets), there are only 12 quests (TES6: Careers), 2 guilds (TES6: Friends) and 3 spells (TES6: Supernatural)?
