Oct 26, 2025The Outer Worlds 2 Review – With sharp humor, rich world-building, and deep RPG systems, does it finally capture the spirit of New Vegas?
-
Nov 7, 2025If you loved the first The Outer Worlds, you can be absolutely certain that you will adore the second game. Obsidian has worked its magic to deliver a masterpiece that fully lives up to its reputation as the "spiritual successor to Fallout: New Vegas." It thoroughly satisfies our craving for well-written western RPGs.
-
Nov 2, 2025The Outer Worlds 2 improves over the first with a more compelling story and better combat, while still delivering and even expanding on the game’s great setting and character writing. While the story isn’t shaped by the player’s choices as much as in other RPG titles, you’ll still find a lot of immersive roleplaying to be done in this game’s stand-out original universe.
-
Oct 23, 2025The Outer Worlds 2 isn't your run-of-the-mill "the same but bigger" sequel. It's a massive leap in quality akin to the gap between Assassin's Creed 1 and 2, bringing out the best from the current post-Avellone Obsidian Entertainment.
-
Oct 23, 2025Choices, choices, choices, the crown jewel of "free" market corporatism is now available with The Outer Worlds 2, with breathtaking worlds, impeccable dialogues and narratives, and a combat system that could've been better balanced, maybe.
-
Oct 23, 2025The Outer Worlds 2 is an entertaining game that’s incredibly fun to play through. There may be flaws, as most RPGs possess, but they don’t trigger any ill will. There’s plenty of polish that shows how much the team has advanced in bringing this game to another level that the first title lacked.
-
Oct 23, 2025The Outer Worlds 2 is a deceptively smart Looter-shooter RPG with colourful worlds and entertaining characters, and some really satisfying, malleable combat.
-
Oct 23, 2025I'm immediately planning another run of The Outer Worlds 2, with a completely different build and specializations. You couldn't really ask for much more with a game like this.
-
Oct 23, 2025For fans of the first game or simply missing gameplay similar to Fallout, it's almost impossible not to recommend The Outer Worlds 2. The game still has some areas where it could improve, but it's easily a significant improvement over its predecessor.
-
Oct 23, 2025The Outer Worlds 2 is another proof that raises Obsidian as one of the strongest studios in modern RPGs. Despite carrying over some issues from the past, it’s a more ambitious and fun sequel, filled with compelling characters and a narrative that truly makes you feel part of the conflict in the Arcadia colony.
-
Nov 5, 2025If it were a product by Auntie Cleo, The Outer Worlds 2 would be marketed with the tagline "Now with Slightly Improved Flavor!". And fittingly so, since it is a highly entertaining sequel that takes the basic formula of the first Outer Worlds and improves upon it, even if only slightly, in every possible aspect.
-
Nov 3, 2025Obsidian is simply continuing its exploration of what a modern CRPG can be, delivering another title that's genuinely worth playing today. The Outer Worlds 2 stands out by being willing to tell a less traditional story and express ideas that aren't always comfortable or harmonious. And honestly, that alone is exactly what I hoped Obsidian would do.
-
Oct 23, 2025The Outer Worlds 2 represents both a confirmation and a significant evolution from the previous installment in the series from Obsidian Entertainment, a team that has proven adept at crafting compelling role-playing experiences. The sequel to the original title not only expands the saga's already rich and distinctive universe, but does so with impressive attention to detail and player choice. Sure, the technical side isn't cutting edge, and there's still plenty of room for improvement in some aspects, like combat. However, The Outer Worlds 2 is one of the most complete and engaging RPGs of recent years, which is why it will captivate anyone who loves the genre and its captivating sci-fi setting.
-
Oct 28, 2025The Outer Worlds 2 builds smartly on its predecessor with bigger worlds, deeper role-playing, and sharp satire. It’s imperfect—AI and visuals could be better—but remains a witty, ambitious RPG that captures what made Obsidian great.
-
Nov 14, 2025The Outer Worlds 2 may not be the most innovative RPG, but what it does, it generally does very well. A step above the original game, TOW2 is worth the price of admission if you prefer story over run and gun action.
-
Nov 2, 2025If you had to pick one RPG to play this year, pick The Outer Worlds 2.
-
Oct 29, 2025The Outer Worlds 2 is a fantastic role-playing game. It's a little old-school in some areas, but that's exactly what gives it its charm. Basically, the game offers exactly what fans of the first installment hoped for. More of the wacky world, more refined game systems, and a larger scope. It has been further developed in the right places and supplemented where necessary. Only a few bugs hold it back. But anyone who already enjoyed its predecessor will get their money's worth here too.
-
Oct 27, 2025Ultimately, if you liked the first game, you will most certainly enjoy the sequel. It offers a much more solid RPG experience with lots of options for almost any type of playthrough. The writing is superior, the character progression system makes a lot more sense, and the level design is top notch too, along with voice acting.
-
Oct 23, 2025Fallout's jolly little brother has grown up. The Outer Worlds 2 impresses with a unique sense of humor and great freedom for players, but falters in the final act.
-
Oct 23, 2025Obsidian delivers a superb sequel that expands every aspect of the original with deeper role-playing, improved combat, and a fascinating satirical universe full of ideological clashes, though its structure remains predictable and the open areas feel static and less refined.
-
Oct 23, 2025The Outer Worlds 2 is exactly what you'd expect from Obsidian, if not in its prime, then at least very close to that status. If that's not enough to get you into the game, you're probably looking elsewhere.
-
Oct 23, 2025An RPG with a great sense of fun and whimsy, as well as surprising depth to its character building.
-
Oct 23, 2025The Outer Worlds 2 is by no means a perfect game, but it is a memorable one. Its commitment to the concept of choice and consequence, along with the sharp and satirical writing, makes it a unique, unforgettable RPG that is easy to recommend, despite its flaws.
-
Jan 8, 2026By building on the original’s foundations with more impactful decision-making and gameplay refinements, The Outer Worlds 2 feels like the Obsidian game that Fallout: New Vegas fans have craved for over a decade.
-
Edge MagazineNov 27, 2025Had a few more risks been taken, this too might eventually have been considered a classic. [Issue#418, p.104]
-
Nov 21, 2025The first Outer Worlds was a decent, if a bit soulless experience. Known for it's strong sequels, Obsidian once again succeeds in making the second one a better product.
-
Nov 10, 2025Often sublime but mostly simply fine, The Outer Worlds 2 is a good enough game that could be so much more.
-
Nov 9, 2025Retro-futuristic in its art direction, The Outer Worlds 2 is more retro than futuristic in its approach to the RPG genre. While it boasts a host of accessibility options and incredibly responsive controls, this Microsoft-published title is primarily aimed at Obsidian fans who see certain aging RPG mechanics as a strength rather than a weakness. That said, the numerous improvements over the first installment, along with the choices that have real consequences, make it a shame to miss out on this excellent sci-fi epic with its unique tone, whether you're a fan of the young franchise or not.
-
Nov 4, 2025The Outer Worlds 2 delivers exactly what players want: good combat, a compelling story, fun quests, and an RPG system that truly makes you feel like it's worth investing your time in. And that's something few Western RPG companies can achieve in their players these days. And with The Outer Worlds 2, Obsidian lets us dream of a bright future for the studio, as long as Microsoft lets them keep working this way.
-
Oct 30, 2025The Outer Worlds 2 is a fantastic RPG and a good example of what a sequel should be. It learns from its past, builds on its strengths, and confidently forges its own path, establishing a very strong identity. It is the game that the original promised to be, although far from perfect, because in correcting the past, it has uncovered other challenges, which I hope will be corrected in the future.
-
Oct 29, 2025The Outer Worlds 2 is a remarkable game with Obsidian's brilliant narrative style. But it doesn't evolve in all the ways it perhaps should. It remains constrained by its own rules, by the principles of classic role-playing that they have been applying for years.
-
Oct 28, 2025Obsidian Entertainment—famous for Avowed, Pentiment, and the widely acclaimed Fallout: New Vegas—does it again, delivering an RPG as formidable as it is replayable. An instant classic for genre fans that will satisfy even the most demanding players. A chapter no choose-your-own-adventure enthusiast should miss under any circumstances.
-
Oct 27, 2025The Outer Worlds 2 impresses with well-written dialogue, countless role-playing options, and surprisingly strong shooter gameplay. However, the title runs a bit flat in terms of quest design toward the end.
-
Oct 24, 2025The Outer Worlds 2 is the perfect game for players who want to traverse a broken world with a humorous vibe, engaging with strange people and bizarre events. If you enjoyed the first game, there's no question you'll love this one. And even if you were lukewarm on the original, this experience is guaranteed to be a significant improvement.
-
Oct 23, 2025The Outer Worlds 2 is much like its predecessor in that it is a witty, smart, and energetic adventure. Its highs threaten to touch the stratosphere as easily as the protagonist's spaceship - but its lows mine as deep as some of those poor, slaving Auntie's Choice workers. From this site's more specific angle of interest, its role-playing feels more meaningful and satisfying than in its predecessor or Avowed, Obsidian's other recent action RPG. In a vacuum, it's an enjoyable romp - but no entertainment or art exists in a true vacuum, really. Just as The Outer Worlds 2's scathing commentary on consumerism and blind faith reflects on our real world, so too does our real world reflect on it at the time of its release. Like the game's moral quandaries, it's all about player choice - but in the real world, the consequences are real.
-
Oct 23, 2025The Outer Worlds 2 ticks all the boxes of a successful sequel, building on the solid foundation of its predecessor to offer an even more ambitious and complete RPG. We are therefore treated with a true "role-playing game" in a video game format, which offers enormous freedom in the way we approach its universe of impressive coherence and fine writing, very beautiful to contemplate, and always with the caustic humor of the franchise. It also offers pleasant and modern gameplay that does not stand out against pure FPS / TPS. However, we will have to deal with a staging that seriously lacks spice, a very perfectible artificial intelligence, and the fact of limiting ourselves to the specialization of a part of the available skills. At the risk of finding ourselves greatly handicapped over the course of a main quest that is ultimately less exciting than the side missions that punctuate the adventure. One way like any other to make us want to start a new game, if finishing the adventure in one go with a very generous lifespan was not enough. An Obsidian game as we like them, in short.
-
Oct 23, 2025The Outer Worlds 2 doesn’t try to rewrite Obsidian’s RPG playbook, but it’s yet another strong refinement, with smoother combat, diabolically compelling buildcrafting and loot, and a story that immediately made me want to start again to see an alternate outcome. The sluggish first act and lack of enemy variety make it a bit of a slog at certain times, but once its story of political intrigue kicks in and the new flaws and perks system gets its claws in you, it can be quite hard to put down. All these improvements put The Outer Worlds 2 that much closer to being the Fallout: New Vegas successor we hoped this series would be, and that’s worth getting excited about.
-
Oct 23, 2025The Outer Worlds 2 refines everything that made the original special while daring to expand its universe. The writing remains sharp, full of wit, and deeply reactive to player choices, proving once again that Obsidian understands how to build worlds that feel alive. The addition of third-person view, improved gunplay, and a stronger RPG backbone make this sequel richer and more versatile. However, weak companion AI and performance drops on PC hold it back from true greatness. Even with those flaws, The Outer Worlds 2 stands as one of Obsidian’s finest works, blending humor, freedom, and consequence in ways few studios can.
-
Oct 23, 2025The Outer Worlds 2 is, essentially, a safe sequel. Obsidian retained everything that made the first game so beloved—bitter humor, narrative freedom, and vibrant setting—but without venturing too far into new ideas. The result is a solid RPG, with sharp writing and a still-captivating universe, but one that may feel too familiar for those expecting something bolder.
-
Oct 23, 2025The Outer Worlds 2 builds on Obsidian's strengths: an authentic, smaller-scale RPG full of possibilities, with satire and moral decisions. Rather than competing with open-world giants in terms of scope, it emphasizes its system, humor, and detail. If you enjoyed the first game or New Vegas, you will get exactly what you would expect from Obsidian here, only in a slightly bigger and prettier package, with a little more depth. It's Obsidian's most extensive RPG in this style yet.
-
Oct 23, 2025The Outer Worlds 2 shows that Obsidian won’t be left behind as other great RPGs launch to critical success, and that the developer needs to play to its strengths. I only hope that it learns to take itself more seriously, because the setting is brimming with potential that is yet to be realised.
-
Jan 20, 2026Again, it’s hard to say that The Outer Worlds 2 is a bad game, or one that doesn’t offer players plenty to do. It’s undeniably a well-made game. But that doesn’t make it particularly compelling. It offers players plenty to do, and I fully understand how anyone could sink a couple of dozen hours into it – but the whole time you’re playing it, don’t be surprised if you feel like you’re going through the motions rather than feeling super inspired by any of it.
-
Nov 18, 2025In almost every aspect The Outer Worlds 2 is an improvement over its predecessor. However, been the rather bland and dare I say boring main quest, combined with the fact this game offers very little new to the genre by way of mechanics. It would be hard to say that The Outer Worlds 2 is anything more than a good, yet uninspired RPG. One that is harder to recommend given the stiff competition in the RPG genre and sub-genres here in 2025.
-
Oct 30, 2025Obsidian has run out of steam when it comes to storytelling, once again delivering a distinctly flat world within The Outer Worlds universe and prioritizing form over substance. Fortunately, the polished gameplay allows you to enjoy the sequel.
-
Oct 23, 2025The simple fact is, if you played the first game, you know exactly what you’re getting with The Outer Worlds 2. There are some mechanical improvements, but the story doesn’t impress, and the side-quests lack enough bite or consequence to create a world I want to spend more time in.
-
Oct 23, 2025The Outer Worlds 2 is okay, and perhaps that is its biggest flaw – it is unable to match either its powerful rivals or New Vegas, to which it is merely derivative and doesn't make up for it with its storyline or companions. In a year packed with excellent games, it's hard to justify buying it when there are so many great, cheaper RPGs out there.
-
Oct 23, 2025The Outer Worlds 2 is a damn good, classic role-playing game in which you can pretty much do whatever you want...At the same time, I have to admit that I found it to be quite formulaic for long stretches. Factions, conflicts, open character development with numerous gameplay options: none of this is new, and because every distribution of perks, weaknesses and abilities always leads to a certain goal, proceedings feel somewhat arbitrary and lacking a certain special spark.
-
Oct 23, 2025After waiting six years for another crack at The Outer Worlds, it feels disappointing to be met with a sequel that is so promising but marred by a poor first half and frustrating Flaws. But the game isn’t a total flop, saved by its whimsical charm, vivid dystopian subject matter, and the classic, slower, and more explorative design that Obsidian games have perfected.
-
Oct 23, 2025As a sequel, The Outer Worlds 2 doesn't strive to reinvent its past foundation and does little to stand out in the RPG genre. If you're looking for new toys to play with, you'll find plenty of weapons and a much-improved gunplay to boot. Just don't expect to carry many memories of your time in Arcadia with you.
-
Nov 25, 2025The first The Outer Worlds left us with mixed feelings a few years ago: it had an interesting premise and fun combat, but all in all, it didn't lead to a very memorable experience. The Outer Worlds 2 is clearly a step forward: the combat has been greatly improved and there is more to experience. So what do you get up to? Well, you create a character and walk around with them on different planets. You solve one problem after another by talking and/or shooting. That doesn't sound very original, and it isn't. All in all, we find The Outer Worlds 2 an improvement on its predecessor and, at times, an enjoyable game, but it's certainly not a must-have.

Oct 28, 2025The Outer Worlds 2 delivers a rich, expansive RPG with deep characters, meaningful choices, and a finely crafted sci-fi world. Obsidian balances humor, seriousness, and exploration to create one of their most polished and engaging titles yet. [Recommended]
-
Oct 23, 2025The Outer Worlds 2 promises flexibility in storytelling, but when that flexibility comes from interacting with one-dimensional characters who inhabit such an unconvincing world, there isn’t much of a point to it.
-
Oct 23, 2025The Outer Worlds 2 is defined by its whiplash, alternating between deeply rewarding storytelling and outcomes that feel rushed and stilted. I largely enjoyed the time I spent (mostly) making Arcadia a better place; it’s just disappointing to see such strong potential in the opening hours that doesn't show up again. There's a middle ground between the first game's brevity and the sequel's overly ambitious nature, and I hope Obsidian gets the chance to find it in a third game.
-
Oct 23, 2025While you can tinker with gear or unlock lockboxes, there aren’t any activities that can set up camp chats or even instances of companions getting up to interesting stuff you can join in on. Far from a dealbreaker, but something that would have been cool. Then again, they’re probably just avoiding listening to me moan about the locking of extra weapon quick-switch holster and healing primer slots to gear mods. It's a bit of a ballache, especially given the limited slots most gear has in comparison to the number of tweaks you can install. Sure, it forces you to pick and choose rather than equipping everything and achieving instant godhood, hand in hand with the levelling system, but is standing in the way of me adding a melee swatter to my regular rotation of normal gun/energy gun unless I ditch a more interesting ability really contributing much to the roleplaying?
