If the last third of this game was anywhere near good as the first two thirds, I would have given it a 9.

I had turned off the 'view consequences' option when I started the game, as I figured it would have killed the immersion. And this seemed to have been okay until the last third / last quarter of the game.
Even though my character had schmoozed himself to near the top of society, had a reputation as a famously wise judge and also had maximum 20/20 'might' (loosely associated with swordfighting/intimidation?', my character's life seems to have fallen apart on a whim leading to the last act of the game, and I received a premature game over. This was because all the positive options in the events leading to the endgame were greyed out, as my character was psychologically exhausted / depressed. I married off my low status sister to an elite nobleman (who even didn't mind her illegal hobbies), which was the best thing I could do for her, but the game decided that this was a negative thing, so our mother died of sadness and for some arbitrary reason my elder brother and father who I had a great relationship with just split up the family. This made my character insanely depressed out of nowhere and so in the last act of the game I could not do anything and just stood around dumbstruck whilst my enemies killed me, even though my intelligence and combat stats were all maxed out. The game ended on a crappy note, which really stuck with me. And the last save point was half the game ago, so it's really not worth redoing it all either.
Is it harsh to say a very poor last act can ruin a game? I don't know but it soured it hugely for me.

Awesome game. I would like to recommend you somehow look at the podcast "ПИЛИМ, ТРЁМ #63. The Life and Suffering of Sir Brante" - it will show you that all the emotions you feel in the second half of the game - is exactly what they wanted you to feel, so... yes, That's a really good interesting game

You can replay chapters, but there is no "skip dialogue I've already seen" option, so you have to give yourself carpal tunnel clicking endlessly through old text. Easily a 8.5/10 game with a few tweaks to plot requirements and some quality of life changes. Until then, it left a sour aftertaste.

    Great game, a masterpiece.

I want to give some piece of advice to those who want to start playing. It's fine, when things turn the way you don't like. The world is cruel and you can't bend at your own will. My first play-through was on a hard difficulty, when you don't see the consequences of your actions immediately. I accepted my true death as the consequence of my previous decisions.

The word "suffering" in the game title speaks for itself. It's deeply philosophical and emotional. I'm sure you can fall in love with the game (like I did) or hate it with all your heart (because it's not an easy one), but you can't be somewhere in the middle, uninterested.

I recommend it with all my heart.

You feel connected to the characters, and care about their fate. Your decisions feel meaningful and important, even though your character is not omnipotent, as is common in video games. Be prepared to make some tough choices that may bring unforeseen and unwanted consequences.

Really nice illustrations and fitting music. Deep lore, but not overwhelmingly complicated. Solid replayability. So glad I stumbled upon this!

Hey! My opinion might be a bit biased, but hear me out - this game is rad and has the potential to become one of the best indie narrative-driven games of 2021. Don't expect to be a hero and win against the system - most probably this won't happen. Instead try to find something personal in this beautiful story, something that touches your soul and helps you to reflect on your acts.

There are NO black and white moral choices in this game, everything lies in a grey area. You have to think long and hard, you have to suffer, you have to make sacrifices and oh it ain't easy.
If you tried Long Live The Queen, We. The revolution, Werewolf. Heart of the forest - then The Life and Suffering of Sir Brante is definitely for you.
Took me 12 hours to do my first playthrough and I can play three times more as there are tons of content I'd like to unlock, pretty much impressive for an indie title.
    Strongly recommend!

This is a visual novel paired with a constant game of russian roulette, masking as choices and even touting a full blown skill system that does essentially nothing. More than once I was reminded of early 80's text adventures where gameplay went along the lines of "go west - you get eaten by a monster and die, GAME OVER", only with a lot more useless foreplay.

The "game" will mercilessly railroad you because doing meaningful choices and having actual different outcomes in a story is hard. Lying about game mechanics in a trailer and having a blast with your 20 $ is a lot easier.
