A good story and interesting setting wasted on a bare bones visual novel that has no voice acting and only basic animations, if you just want to read a fiction book, good for you.

This is a visual novel paired with a constant game of russian roulette, masking as choices and even touting a full blown skill system that does essentially nothing. In the end of the day you get to read a passable story with decent presentation- if you are lucky and don't die prematurely, but don't think too long about your path or how to manage your skills.

More than once I was reminded of early 80's text adventures where gameplay went along the lines of "go west - you get eaten by a monster and die, GAME OVER", only with a lot more useless foreplay.

The "game" will mercilessly railroad you because doing meaningful choices and having actual different outcomes in a story is hard. Lying about game mechanics in a trailer and having a blast with your 20 $ is a lot easier.

You can call it perfection. The Life and Suffering of Sir Brante is a brilliantly written story, which lets you fight your own demons or embrace them as a part of yourself. Be the Sir Brante you want to be!

We certainly did not expect this story-driven, narratively focused game to be as good as it is. Its world is truly original, the characters inhabiting it feel lifelike and the whole game, with its book-like treatment, is simply marvellous to look at.

A decent text-based RPG with a disappointing illogical ending.
