Nov 14, 2023A walking simulator with some interesting decisions and a gripping story that's well supported by its setting and direction.
-
Nov 12, 2023Still, this is, at the end of the day, a walking simulator. As such, this game won't be a game for those looking to get some action. This is a thriller that aims to pose some philosophical questions at the end. if that's what you're looking for, then The Invincible will be a perfect fit for your next space expedition.

Nov 2, 2023Even with a few technical hiccups, checkpoint woes, and a sense that maybe going this big with such an intimate game wasn’t the best choice, The Invincible is an enjoyable experience. The Invincible is a '60s sci-fi novel brought to life that is best suited for those who love to get nerdy about hard science and love that retro sci-fi aesthetic. More casual fans will likely find plenty to enjoy with the game, but they should know that this a game about getting immersed in a world that wants to tell a story instead of the usual space-faring adventure shtick. When The Invincible gets its hooks in players, it can be a narrative experience that is thrilling, thought-provoking, and worth the ride.
-
Nov 2, 2023The Invincible is hard to recommend on the basis of its gameplay alone, as its walking sim core doesn't always feel like the best use of its potential. Its best features can be found elsewhere, however, with a competent take on a great story and a truly staggering success in the looks department keeping the engine running across a modest runtime. Branching possibilities may not be enough to incentivize a second bout of slow exploration, but as a one-time dip into a mysterious tale of beauty and danger, The Invincible might just do the trick.
-
Nov 2, 2023The Invincible passes the basic test - it's a worthy adaptation of Lem's novel it's based upon. At the same time, however, it's nothing more than that. Add to this the fact that there's not much to do here and you simply get an interactive experience set on a pretty planet. An experience that neither surprises nor comments on Lem's ideas in its own way.
-
Nov 3, 2023The Invincible is a visually impressive game of exploration, philosophy, and consequences. The characters, their choices and struggles will pull you in, while the intrigue and mystery will keep you around. Just beware of some unfortunate bugs.

LEVEL (Czech Republic)Jan 12, 2024There are plenty of moments in the game that are downright frustrating, such as the low movement speed, navigational ambiguity, minimal interactivity, and a certain tediousness with which the story unfolds. [Issue#332]
-
Nov 7, 2023The game never recaptures the interactive vigor of its first half, eventually becoming a bout of scientific calculus on autopilot.
-
Nov 6, 2023The Invincible is a spectacular adaptation of Stanisław Lem's book, but it's limited in terms of what you can do in it, and the impact on the story you have.
-
Nov 2, 2023An intriguing story of exploring new frontiers and an easy gateway into retro sci-fi literature, The Invincible is a powerful, engrossing cosmic drama that’s held back by a lack of variety and innovation, rough edges around its core mechanics, and a supporting cast that can’t quite match the energy of its stars.
-
Nov 2, 2023The Invincible is a walking simulator that refuses to be seen as one. While it does show some potential in its narrative, the game simply doesn't follow through on all its foreshadowing. Factor in the seemingly pointless and boring gameplay and you're left with a rather disappointing experience.
-
Nov 5, 2023The Invincible is a walking simulator that, starting from a good story, fails to adapt it to a video game in a satisfactory way. It's a slow game, with accessory and sometimes unnecessary mechanics that at times feels more like a visual novel with playable "globs". And it's a shame, because there was potential in its atmosphere.
-
Nov 2, 2023The Invincible is ultimately a sub-par experience. While it delivers flashes of quality in its cast and its attention to some details, the narrative is ultimately weighed down too much.
-
Nov 2, 2023The Invincible is a prime example of trying to fit a square peg of a story into the round hole that is the medium of video games. While the premise and story both contain worthwhile parts, the light, pointless gameplay built around it could be much better, as it lacks any depth to its puzzles and is weighed down by too much tedious walking around empty and lifeless locations that, when you get anywhere near them, don’t look very good. There’s only so much even a likable protagonist like Yasna can do with a story, environment, and mechanics that don’t give you much to do until you’re seven hours in. If you are looking for an enjoyable sci-fi story about space exploration and mystery, your time would likely be better spent simply reading Stanislaw Lem's 1964 novel, The Invincible; at least your imagination won’t be as limited as this game seems to be.

Nov 20, 2023It creates a captivating atmosphere, but at the same time spoiled by trying to last longer, with unnecessary walks and moments that dilute the main plot without contributing too much to it.
-
Nov 10, 2023And the whole game is endlessly beautiful. Brilliant design choices have led to a game conceived with a 1950/60s retrofuturistic aesthetic, complete with rayguns, clunky robots and Mid-Century Modern furniture. Set against boldly colorful vistas, there isn’t a single moment where this game doesn’t look like the tattered paperback cover of a classic sci-fi novel...If only it were slightly smoother, slightly shorter, and less buggy.
-
Nov 2, 2023Oddly, The Invincible is at its best when you are like its simple automatons, following instructions to complete a clear objective. However, as soon as your instructions become unclear, you can find yourself walking in loops or frozen part-way through an action, unsure of what to do. The game is a great example of how engaging first-person narratives can be, but also how any missteps or unearned moments can eject you from the head of the narrator, leaving you cold and confused.

Nov 2, 2023The Invincible lets you take some detours and make some choices, but it also pushes you forward in a way that feels both natural and necessary. It took me around six hours to see it all — which is good because I’m not sure how much longer I could survive.
