I don't know what is with these mass negative comments but it seems to me that those are players who either hate telltale or that's just their first telltale game.... Yes i agree that the episode was too short it could've been longer but let's not forget that there's still 4 episodes left and im sure those episodes will be good.

I've missed narrative games. I've loved the work that Deck Nine and Supermassive have done, but it's a long dry spell between releases with little else on that scale coming out. I watched all six seasons of the show, but didnt read the books. What I love so far: it absolutely feels like an episode of the show. The salty dialog with Kahn makes her easily my favorite NPC. The cinematics felt perfect and the floating in space controls were easy to use. I'm interested to see how my choices play out over the coming episodes. I'm on the fence regarding episodic releases, but I might be okay if they actually hit their release dates.
Great to see Deck Nine spread their wings out from Life is Strange. Expecting more great games from this studio. Way to go Telltale for partnering with such a great team.

Haters gonna hate, but I had a lot of fun looting a destroyed space ship. Will write a proper review when the full thing is out.

Awesome to see Telltale back! At first was a little skeptical but Expanse is great so far! Especially if you like the show. I was such a huge fan of the old games, too! It’s like they never left. Some brutal choices, but excited to play the next episode!!

I loved the Expanse show, and I like Camina Drummer, so I preordered this as soon as I could. Yeah, the first episode is kind of short, but it felt really like being in the TV show, and I loved the zero g exploration a lot. If you are an Expanse fan, you should totally check it out! I feel like it's a love letter to the show and Screaming Firehawks, and it would be a shame to miss it. II loved the Expanse show, and I like Camina Drummer, so I preordered this as soon as I could. This game is really great for Telltale's reviving
You know some people may say blaa blah the old ones blah blah
But dude it's 2023 you don't have your ps2 anymore everything is upgraded the graphics the gameplays everything
The game having good graphic doesn't mean that developers focused on graphics because it has a great story too

Awesome game. Looking forward to the next episodes. This game has really good narrative and interesting gameplay. Don't listen to those negative Ned reviews that got nothing to say expect negative things about everything. Telltale is back on track and better than ever.

The sheer ignorance of reviews claiming that an episodic game is too short when only 1 episode was released so far lmao ... weren't user scores supposed to be more trustworthy?

Anyways, the 1st episode was a good start overall! If you're a fan of previous Telltale games, you know what you're in for albeit with a bit more interactivity due to zero g space walking and I did feel like

Personally, even tho the plot is a bit cliche, I really like the character interactions and the story got me hooked enough to want to know what happens next. That being said tho, I do think waiting 2 weeks for each episode is frustrating more than anything so maybe wait until they're all out (September, 21).

    Update Episode 3:

This episode marks the weakest point thus far in the Expanse Telltale series. It stands as the shortest installment, with character control encompassing 90% of the game. Regrettably, the story makes only minimal progress, with rare dialogue decisions that lack the signature Telltale touch. The foremost concern lies in its brevity – the episode's short duration is a bit

Boys and girls, Telltale is back! I have been, am, and will forever be a huge fan of Telltale Games. I adore their games and am thrilled to see their return, especially with one of my favorite TV series!

What distinguished Telltale games post the first "The Walking Dead" installment was their distinctive storytelling through cinematic dialogue-choice gameplay, interspersed with quick-time events and limited exploration and character control. The cinematic dialogue-choice gameplay was the standout. The most recent installment, "The Walking Dead: The Final Season," introduced over-the-shoulder gameplay without compromising the dialogue choices and cinematic experience. Despite the criticism that their formula was overused, I was always drawn to the unique experience they created, even as they leaned more towards cinematic than usual gameplay elements.

"The Expanse" is presented as a Telltale game, yet I'm uncertain about Telltale's involvement. The game was made in partnership with Deck Nine, and on the Epic Games Store, Deck Nine is credited as the sole developer, with Telltale Games as the publisher. Whether this is accurate or not, the game sure feels more like "A Deck Nine Series" rather than "A Telltale Series." This isn't necessarily negative; I appreciate Deck Nine's games, their "Life is Strange" series. However, this doesn't deliver the typical Telltale Games experience. This game also features over-the-shoulder gameplay, like TWD:TFS, but unlike there, here it also lacks the cinematic essence, time-sensitive dialogue choices, movie-like scenes, and simple but clever Quick Time Events that characterize Telltale. If you removed the "A Telltale Series" title, you might not recognize it as a Telltale game. My intuition suggests that Telltale was not significantly involved in developing this game. I might be mistaken, but that's my perspective. To me, this feels like it's just wearing the Telltale Games label for marketing, and the true revival of Telltale might be showcased in "The Wolf Among Us 2."

However, as a Deck Nine game, it performs quite well in the initial two episodes. The characters are engaging, and the graphics are exceptional. No Telltale game has looked this good or felt so fluid. Unlike the old games and their optimization issues because of their engine, this game runs smoothly. The exploration mechanics are masterfully executed, even though I occasionally feel dizzy due to the space setting and never knowing where is up or down. The character control gameplay is impressively polished, and I've been thoroughly entertained. Storywise, it's generally satisfying, although there's room for improvement. This is heightened by my affinity for "The Expanse" TV series. Camina Drummer is a standout character, and playing as her with her excellent voice acting is a treat! I do hope they will bring more meaningful choices in the next episodes though.

Perhaps this is exactly what Telltale needs—a fresh start with diverse experiences, moving away from the predictable formula. Maybe it was time for a change? Only time will tell as more Telltale games are released, allowing us to compare and evaluate if the new Telltale truly understands the essence of the old. For now, I'm just grateful they're back!

If there's something noteworthy after playing subsequent episodes upon their release, I'll update the review. Otherwise, I'll edit it once the entire series is complete."

The fact that you can't skip a single cutscene and that some save points are far apart are also relics of previous Telltale adventures that I'm not particularly stoked about. You could therefore say that the new old studio is still very much the old one, despite the closure, takeover and new start. Which also means, maybe most importantly, that it captures the essence of the source material very skillfully, which is why I can recommend The Expanse: A Telltale Series to fans of the series despite the criticisms.

The Expanse: A Telltale Series works well as a tie-in, because it recreates the atmosphere of the series and explores the past of a loved character (Cara Gee as Drummer is amazing as always!). However, as a whole, it is a middling game that ends before it really gets going. I also regret that the developers missed the opportunity to delve deeper into The Expanse’s universe, as this setting has a lot to offer.

The Expanse: A Telltale Series is a return to form, though that form is almost out of style. Each of the five episodes takes an average of about two hours to complete if you’re hunting for all of the collectibles, so the amount of content is on the shorter end. But if you’re looking for solid writing and characters that fit well within The Expanse universe, this adventure is another chance to revisit the series and see Camina Drummer be a badass all over again. However, the dated mechanics and the game’s choice to be a prequel impair the effort.
