I honestly expect that anyone who could honestly say ESO was a good game is A, astroturfing, or B, still suffering from the shock of how awful it is. Is it a good MMO... Not really. Is it a good Elder Scrolls game, not really at all.

I had such high hopes for this game as i played all the games to date. The best ones in my opinion was Oblivion followed by skyrim. However with that being said it was clear within a week that this game would go F2P in 6 months to a year. Why? I'm glad you asked! First the business model is terrible. First to have buy the game. However with that being said it was clear within a week that this game would go F2P in 6 months to a year. Why? I'm glad you asked! First the business model is terrible. First to have buy the game. Fine ok i can do that. You get a free month of play but you have to pay for your first paid month up front before you can get your free month of play and access to the Imperial race and a mount to start off with is hidden behind a pay wall. There is Micro Transactions within the game as well. Second: this is a game that is set in the TES world that is meant to be played with others. In the month i have played i found playing with others irritating and tedious at best. If you are not on the exact part of the quest your friend is on you can't help them or even see them. The main story line is solo only and the roles within a dungeon setting is horrific at best. You can play any of the 4 classes in any role you prefer BUT only the way Bethesda has intended it to be played. The skill lines in said classes are mediocre at best and choices to customize those skills are in no way dramatic or game changers. The combat is terrible and clunky and poorly executed. The graphics a horrible and group play is not fun at all. The roles are poorly executed. For example if you are a tank your role in the group is to taunt the boss, continuously block and heal yourself. You actually feel completely useless and is in no way engaging in any way. Healing in the game takes away as you really don't have any control over who you heal. The heals are suppose to be "smart" healing but in many cases is incredibly dumb and doesn't actually heal who it's should and when it should. DPS is fun for about 10 seconds then it gets boring. The quests are terrible and most of the time you feel you are doing the same quest over and over just with different mobs. Sometimes you get a companion to come and help you but most of the time they just stand there and do nothing. Spells often fail to cast which require you to double click them, THEN when they do go off the added function of the spell fails to function correctly. Everything about the Knight Blade class is broken at the moment. Classes seem to have been created with a certain role in mind and if you deviate from that it feels too clunky and inorganic. The PVP content which has been the major selling point of this game is fun the first time around, after that it just gets boring. There is no relevant economy to speak of other than getting into a guild to sell stuff to other people in your guild. To take it a step further in order to access the guild market you have to have 50+ members. The server is always down and the game is riddled with bugs. When they fix one thing they break 10 other things in the process. Whoever thought that this game was a good idea to produce in it's current state with it's current business model and constantly broken features should have been fired on the spot.

In short if you like Paying money for a game and then paying a monthly sub for a game you'll grow tired of in a month then i say buy it. If you actually want to be entertained for weeks and have fun with friends while doing it, simply put... LOOK ELSEWHERE. GW2 is F2P just have to buy the game. Neverwinter is totally free to play give that a go as well.

Those who have stuck around to read this far, thanks. Have fun gaming!

Not quite as bad as Neverwinter but not better than any other game except Neverwinter. In terms of cash grabs about the same as Neverwinter.

Graphics haven't changed any since Skyrim (most people claim its worse but looked the same to me). So they're decent still. The storyline is written great, as with all Elder Scrolls games. And that's where the positive aspects of the game stop.

All the bugs from beta are still in the game, you couldn't even progress your storyline after release based on your faction. You will fall through the world randomly for no reason. You will get stuck on stairs. You will be dismounted from your horse while running along a road for no reason at all.

The combat is extremely slow. There are very few skills per class and most are useless so you'll be spamming the same skills as every other Dragon Knight / Nightblade / etc in the game.

The quests are spread out to the point where all you'll be doing is running around looking for more quests or running for days to turn in the quests you did. The quests have you backtrack often also, no streamlining at all has been done to make the progression smooth.

At the end of the day if all you care about is Story you should grab this game and play through it inside of 1 month then cancel your sub and move on. If you care about having fun, the combat, quests, bugs or any actual gameplay aspects of the game then you should definitely avoid getting this game.

Great visuals, great score, and it's fantastic to be able to play in the various areas of Tamriel... I hated the economy. For example no way to sell to strangers beside spamming trade chat with WTS. And the fans from the elder scrolls series don't want to play an MMO and the game reflects it.

You have to be invited to the forums!!!! I assume that would AFTER I download the game........ I assume...

I never downloaded this game and from what I can tell, I'm not missing anything. I doubt I'll get a refund, but if I don't, I will find a way to gift it to someone.

Searching the internet, I find A LOT of people willing to pay for ESO Plus, but can't. They don't have Credit cards (a pre-paid doesn't work) and can't find Game cards. Bethesda is one of the dumbest companies I think I've ever seen. I'm shocked at the stupidity of these people.

I will give the PC version some credit- it's better than the ps4 atrocity. You can at least mod this version for things like a mini map, and there's social options that make the world feel more alive. If you must play ESO, the PC version is the best of all of the versions.

That said- it's still a bland WoW clone with horrible combat and few positives.

    - Game and addons are full releases? I don't agree with that - missing the "beta" note somewhere on the screen. When i bought the game i was sure i buy a full released base game.
    - no refounds when you bought the game
    - ESO forces you to buy addons to play with your friends ALSO as a new player you CANT collect all the materials cause you are not able to upgrade your bags/storage (double storage for eso plus additional to unlimited materials bag)

First of all, the quests are relatively uninteresting and not compelling. Second, it really isn't an open world: if you stray too far from your origin at a low level you will not survive long at all. Third, you are pretty much forced in to crafting your items because you cannot buy specific items. You cannot buy ore or ingots. You have to search for ore, mine it, then use it for crafting. If you want decent weapons or armor you have to spend hours and hours scouring the landscape to find the ore, mine it etc ... it becomes monotonous and a waste of time. Lastly the combat system is clunky and you are stuck with goofy special abilities to try to defeat your opponents. As a game, for me, it was a complete failure and I shelled out $80 to play it. Yes, I fell for the "Imperial Edition" figuring it would be a wise investment considering the hundreds (over a thousand) hours that I played Skyrim. I played this game maybe 60 hours before I gave up in disgust. I give it 3 points because the graphics are astounding, and the huge world is quite a feat of graphics and design. Unfortunately it's not a world worth staying in very long. Huge failure on the part of Bethesda and Zenimax as far as I'm concerned. I will think twice about shelling out my hard earned cash for future Elder Scrolls products, as it seem likely Skyrim was the jewel of the lot. (I have since attempted to play Oblivion and didn't last in that one more than maybe 3 hours ... I did not like it either.) Expand

Sure those attacks morphed and got better...but the simplicity of the combat is just the worst combat I have ever seen, in any MMO!!!
Now the other parts of the game, stealing/sneaking/chest hunting - I could almost play this entire game for that and nothing else. That is until I am forced to fight and I quickly remember why I quit very shortly after coming back.

Not considering the combat - this game could easily be 9/10

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. I have stayed with this game for a year thru all of its hardships. and I must say, I am very disappointed. There has been little-no improvement over the last year to ESO. Yes there has been new content, and new content is all well and good, but improvements? No.

The PvE is boring and so easy that it is possible to one man world bosses and public dungeons, which are supposed to require a group to take on. The trials are a joke. they are nothing but blob up and spam crap. No strategy, no planning required, just run and gun. the Veteran content is boring, and is nothing but a long, tedious, mind numbing grind. The story too it does not even make sense, one is forced to go thru the other alliances story lines, making it difficult to find a reason to make characters of other factions, and it is just lazy. the player will spend more time watching that slow XP bar chug along than actually enjoying the content once the player completes level 49 and enters the veteran ranks,

PvP is an utter joke. It cannot support hundreds of players at once. In truth, it can barely support 40 players on the screen at once. As soon as a huge force of players start fighting, the game literally turns into Microsoft Powerpoint. The lag is atrocious, and has been around for almost a year with little done or attempted to fix it. There are numerous cheats(such as getting thru outpost and keep walls without knocking them down, which ZOS has confirmed is an exploit) that are downright abused with little-no consequence. The cheat I mentioned above has been done for about 6-8 months now. As soon as someone provides video evidence on the forums, it is closed due to the "name and shame" policy. ZOS would rather ignore evidence than fix the issues. The game is a cheaters paradise, and has made it a joke to play.

The balance in PvP is non-existent. the game is currently dominated by infinite resource builds(and that has sadly found its way into blackwater blade) throwing any kind of strategic resource management out the window. This, combined with block casting, low Time to kills, and one shot wonder builds finding their way into the game, has turned ESO PvP into an ancient 3rd person era of Call of Duty, with blocking. No strategy, just hold down block and spam abilities. its pathetic.

The worst part? the developers simply do not care. ZOS ignores any evidence of cheating, they let bugs and game breaking exploits stay in the game for a ridiculous period of time, and they would rather "upgrade" their "crown store(aka cash shop) than work on the actual game. ZOS lets issues remain in PvE and PvP for far to long, and do not fix them in a satisfactory rate.

I give this a 3/10 because I have played it for a year and because it is an elder scrolls game. Do not get this game unless you are a die-hard elder scrolls fan.

The game has insane potential, but at this point in time should not be considered a finished product for purchase, chiefly due to technical flaws. They seem to lack preparedness with the security and integrity of the client as well, as there are often periods of the day when there are more automated bots and hackers than there are normal players.

I went into ESO with high expectations wanting to join a community that I thought would be vibrant and fun. It turns out that I was in for a letdown. But all the major ones are voiced by the distinctive voices we heard in Skyrim. So distinctive in fact that hearing the same ones on character after character begins to melt them all into the one waxy image in the mind's eye. Add to that bodies that do not move when you are speaking to an NPC and you are interacting with at best what I describe as a clothed upright log. Also the game is full of bugs. the bugs get patched and this opens up the way for more bugs. Disgustingly the game has an autoban feature. For instance say too much, even via helping other players and this broken auto ban feature will see it as spam and ban you without even the decency of an email to let you know they stole your game from under you. Or fall thru one of the many holes the developers left in this bugged out world and you can be banned for cheating. Don't expect an email to notify you they banned you, you are left to try and get fail after fail attemps logging into the game the following day wondering why you cannot log in. It is criminal. Then you are left with WEEKS, in the case of many players, trying to get some answers out of support. They don't seem to care and they are giving the impression they do not want us playing their game. Sadly I have found Elder Scrolls Online seriously wanting. I never see two or more players grouped up tackling PVE missions for example as you will see in Guild Wars 2. It's just single players running around, mostly not helping others (unless there is something in it for them), The loot system is another bone of contention. Chests abound, but arguments avail as it's first come first serve. If you want a fun immersive community game to play as an MMO then I suggest you look farther afield. ESO is lacking in just about everything, the graphics are not up to the latest that you will find elsewhere and the combat feels off, askew. Don't waste your money here. Expand

I took a vacation a week off work a month ago and wanted a new game to get into playing. It has been a while since i've gotten lost in a mmo such as runescape or world of warcraft. I love rpgs such as skyrim and witcher 3 yet interacting with other players removes that "lonely" feeling we all get time to time playing a single player game.
I played this game for two days straight and I must admit, the "new game woah this is cool!" phase lasted for 2 hours. I became very bored with this want to be mmo. ALL YOU DO is go talk to this npc, oh and then that npc tells you to go talk to this npc, and then find this npc and talk to them, and you might kill a couple monsters running from npc to npc. Am i being a Debbie Downer? No I am stating all I expereniced playing this game for two days. I reached level 10 and quit.

The graphics are pretty good for an mmo, but other than that the game is so "empty" like a desert. Their is very little to do other than zone chat with other people about real life things. I have tried picking this game up over and over harder than ever, because I WANT that go to MMO that I think about at work all day, I WANTED to come home and get lost in the world of elder scrolls online. But unfortunately it is too dull and boring to.
Try this game at your own risk, even with the free subscription this game is worth no more than 5 bucks. It feels so unfinished you will want your money back worse than bringing home a game and opening it up to find broken disk. Thank you for reading my review, I am sorry i sound so negative, but then again, you want to read a honest review right?

The Elder Scrolls charm is long gone. Gold per kill is 1, max 2 even on a boss. Horses are anywhere from 20,000 upwards unless you BUY the Imperial race or the horse. This is a downright slap in the face after paying for the game in full as well as the monthly subscription!
If you idiots want to keep comparing this game to WoW obviously it's better but it's no where close to what it should be. Definitely not worth $80. The ESO team was good enough to give me a refund, I suggest you all do the same. Wait till free to play rather.

I hope to the gods they don't do this with Fallout.

    Main negative aspects:
-Many bots, even on the higher maps and strong reliance on the client for security. There is no focus on removing this problem.
-Laggy combat; laggiest that I have ever seen in an MMO. (I played SWTOR, Flyff and some others)
-No way to effectively grind; 2 exp per enemy when grinding, 50 when you kill a lone enemy, or a continuous 20 exp per kill when grinding with 2 players. That is insane.
-Only 5 hotbar-able skills that me long back to SWTOR, when I strung many skills together
-Few if any buffs for healers to cast on teammates.

    -Main positive aspects:
-Good, spoken, dialogues on many if not all characters.
-Interesting quests, very few repetitive 'kill X of Y' or Gather 'X of Z' quests.
    -Familiar TES environments

The main 'distinguishing' feature combat and gameplay wise from other MMO's is that you need to aim and can miss. However, I find this a large downside, since it is hard to play this way and far more straining on your mouse arm.

This is NOT an elder scrolls game. This is a generic MMO with elderscrolls theme to it. There is nearly no freewill. You -MUST- complete specific quests to leave the first area, then you -MUST- complete more specific quests to leave that area, and so forth.

All of the fun of stealhing around, pickpocketing, pick locking, and in general stealing everything you can find, is gone.

All of the fun of stealhing around, pickpocketing, pick locking, and in general stealing everything you can find, is gone. It's now replaced with a Fable based system but worse.

You are very restricted into your character class. In most elderscrolls games if you want to be rogue you can learn magic and increase your fighting skills. In ESO you cannot access sorcerer abilities EVERY as a knight or nightblade.

The only time this every felt like an ES game was when I decided to go fishing. because it's what I wanted to do and not what a long chain of NPCs were telling me to do.

Again, you cannot pickpock as a rogue! you cannot kill every NPC in sight, you cannot loot every piece of equipment off an enemy you kill. Your given a RANDOM item that usually sucks. Almost all loot you find on bodies is worthless and garbage so there is no point in running around fighting things if that's what you want to do to make a living.

If you go to loot the 1 cabinet in the house that you can actually click on your given a RANDOM piece of garbage.

I played through almost all betas and was surprised to see that there were still so many bugs after months of being able to fix them. some quests just deadend and you are stuck in your Area and cannot leave because it's one that you must complete to leave.

The story was compelling and well thought out. I truely wanted to explore this ingame universe for the story but the gameplay was unacceptable!

The loot is mediocre and the PvP gets old fast - the game almost feels like a a solo game trying to enter into the Elder scrolls universe, almost a rip-off if you will (like GTA clones) But Lacking the graphics and being double the price of its rivals, which is madness.

Like many, if the subscription drop's its price a little (or it dies and goes free to play) then i would give it a second chance - but for now i will just stick to skyrim + mods.

(A required feature in all MMO's) Do you want to start the game with a horse? (if you don't pick this option you'll have to kill 17,000 monsters to get a horse.) Do you want to play as every starting faction? (again, an option that is required in all MMO's.) Well you'll have to pay 20$ for the "collectors edition." So you have to pay 20$ more for basic features and a horse. So that's 80$ to start up the game. And you have to pay 15$ per month. Paying for basic features is unacceptable. But even the game that's under all of these paywalls is pretty terrible.

The grinding is insane, even for MMO standards. You have to pay 17,000 dollars for the most crappy horse in the game. While players of MMO's may consider this to be a small amount, this grinding is magnified because every monster only drops 1 gold coin. Bosses only drop 2 gold coins. No matter where I've gone in the world, the gold drops stay the same. I also have friends who tell me its the same at higher level quests. This goes for all items in the game.

This game's matchmaking/party/group quest fails to meet industry standards. You can't EVER replay quests with your friends (this sucks if your trying to get a noob up to your level quickly). You can only see and play with people from your own faction(unless you play PvP). Unless you're in a dungeon, good luck trying to play with your friends. The pVe grouping in general sucks on every level. People can randomly jump into your dungeon when your playing with friends and steal all of your loot. In fact i've gone to multiple dungeons with my friends only to see that the boss is being farmed by a pack of elite players. The phasing is terrible, it feels like you're playing a single player game with your friends hovering around.

The quests are bad. Quests in this game either fall into 2 categories, they are either incredibly easy and boring, or they're battles that should of been awesome, but were turned into 10 minute skirmishes against pockets of NPC's. The epic castle siege stage that was plastered all over this games ad campaign literally lasted 15 minutes. And those 15 minutes were just spent taking on weak monsters in single file order.
The UI is too minimal to convey info to the player. But you can use mods to circumvent it.

The game doesn't have any of the free-roaming experience that made the original elder scrolls great. Though because this game is an MMO i believe that this was more of a concept problem than an implementation problem. Still a major issue.

Overall, this game is just... bad. It's a blatant cash grab. It's buggy, boring, and repetitive. Don't listen to these 10 out of 10 reviews, i assume the devs payed them to review this game. This. game. sucks. avoid at all costs.

As you progress more and more the game gets more and more unfinished. I've been goggling for information from other players on how to find a way past problems, but there isn't much information on this topic available or none at all. The only option is to rely on the game's support team.

When you contact the support team(I have good reasons to think there is only a guy hired) you get a few fast copy-paste answers from their poor FAQ section of the site that sometimes is not even on the topic, he also provides you with the link for the FAQ section. They don't even bother to analyze if the answer they provide will be able to help you at all or point in the right direction. When you are completely blocked by game bugs you expect some fast help or a workaround to unlock your progression. I've replied to the poor answer from the support team, and asked for a real solution to get past my problem. The reply was even worse than the first on, complaining that their job is hard and they are doing humanly efforts. The guy still didn't analyzed my problem and try to find a solution on how I could skip to the next map, he just brought in some more excuses. Also you would expect to talk to the support team in-game, but this guy got all my contact information name, email etc. without my consent in order to be able to contact me.

Regarding maintenance time you will be shocked. They start unplanned maintenance quite often and the scheduled maintenance is sometimes planned the prime time of the evening. I remember one time after wasting all evening waiting for the maintenance to finish, they installed a bad patch and the server crashed, resulting in another 2 hours of wait, followed by server flooding when everyone tried to log in resulting in massive server lag.

The PVP is a little disappointing, first of all they have a "mega sever" technology, but that doesn't mean your player wont have to join one of the many PVP servers (they call them "Campaigns"). They were smart here by putting some nice names to fool the players into thinking they invented something. In order to play PVP, you have to choose a PVP player that you will not be able to change for 3 months, unless you pay for it). The PVP servers are unbalanced, and when a server get full(they get full!) you have to wait in line to enter. When you enter a full server you'll first notice the mass PVP is a crap because the "mega server"™ can't take the load and lags horribly. The only thing you'll be playing is spamming skills/spells and wait a few seconds to see if the target is dead, or he got healed etc.

The dungeon/group finding is very poor, at least at middle and end levels, you get only in some group setups that always fail, some even disband before the dungeon is started as people know that the setup will fail gloriously vs the difficulty of the dungeon. Also the wait time is huge.
The economy of the game is poor due to bugs/exploits.

    Compared with rival games:
    - the number of content blocking bugs is huge, with no chance of getting around some(no one will help you);
    - the customer support is embarrassing(on other games I was really happy with the outcome of the discussion with the support team) ;
    - the cost of purchase and monthly payment is higher;
    - their so praised server is a joke;
    - the PVP is not like you would have expected it because of technical issues(multiple servers just like any other MMO, full servers are extremely lagging, servers that re not full are boring)
    - a lot of time wasted during maintenance that occurs mostly when you have free time to play
    - dungeon grouping is very poor, I doubt you will enjoy doing group dungeons in this game
    - economy is broken

Conclusion: If you are big fan of TES and want to try it, you have been warned this is not really TES, this is a horrible copy-cat version of TES with lots of problems developed and maintained by an inexperienced team of blunt people. I won't recommend it to anyone, TES fans or not.

I'd continue my checklist on the things that completely destroy this game and its title, but I'm confident that the character limit will not suffice. From one devoted fan of the Elder Scrolls series to another: DO NOT EVEN LAY YOUR EYES ON THIS GAME, IT IS NOT WORTH A SINGLE FRACTION OF THE DOSH IT ASKS FOR.

That they even dare ask for a subscription fee for this average piece of **** is beyond me. I'd give this title a four, maybe even a five for the temporary entertainment it provided, but because of the franchise reputation it fails so miserably to uphold, it receives a 0. One can only hope that Bethesda issues immediate plans to meld this title with a free-to-play plan in the coming months in order to save what little dignity it still has.

The freedom to loot or steal anything? Freedom to explore? Buying and kitting out your own house in your favorite town? Organising your book collection? Just to lose yourself in the immersive world of Cyrodiil? These are the questions you need to ask yourself before you play The Elder Scrolls Online because it fails on most of the above and is almost certain to disappoint.

The Elder Scrolls Online ditches the key elements and freedoms that this much loved series is known for in favor of the money grubbing mmo business model. The story is shallow. The questing serves to string you along for as long as possible, this is especially apparent in the latter "zones" where the quests send you all over to greatly extend your play time. Crafting whilst easy to get into and feels rewarding is once again designed to string you along for the most longest time possible through research. Research time for traits on crafted gear can take weeks. Yes weeks. And you can only research a couple of items at a time in any craft. It would take months to fully research a craft in this game. You waste alot of money and time just unlocking inventory and bank space! And upgrading your horse! In fact you can see the business model comes before game play in every aspect of this game. How people get sucked into this crap is beyond me.

The game lacks immersion too. Quest writing ranges from quite good to just plain dumb. Quest givers are surrounded by other gamers who are also busy being the only possible hero to help. Enemies respawn thirty seconds after being killed, this is especially frustrating in dungeons where you decided to read a book you saw, only to have enemies you only just killed start smacking you! At the end of dungeons other players are lined up waiting for the boss to spawn and your lucky to get a shot in to claim the kill. The world is static too, you can't pick up things you see, see that sword there? Well it's glued to the bench thats glued to the ground. The list goes on!

You can't blame Zenimax for wanting to make the most money possible by making an mmo it's just a shame they used the Elder Scrolls IP to do it.

—The group finder tool dont work very well. You have to wait a lot to make dungeons even now when there are a lot of player playing this game.
—If you want to play this game for a year you have to pay almost 200 euros. If you want to play Skyrim forever with all DLC's and with all the mods you want you only pay 30 euros or less. And Skyrim is way better than this game and more replayable. Play for a month TESO = 55 euros and you don't own the game if you quit paying monthly fee. Without monthly fee this game is 7,5 score, no more.

But after you finish with the story line, it gets really boring. I don't know really what else to do. The endgame is non existent. There really isn't too much to do in this game for endgame. After you play through the story, which most of my friends couldn't even finish, there isn't much to do. We all decided that this game is just too boring. Not enough content and it is BUGGY. They fixed a lot of the buggy issues, but it is still buggy.

The whole phasing idea was a neat idea but it is stupid. I played the game when everyone else was leveling with me. How annoying is it when you are trying to get into the game and follow the plot and after doing all the story correct, you enter in a zone where people have already started the boss fight by the time you hit the boss once, you've completed the quest. I didn't even get to see the opening scene of the fight.

Dungeons are SUPER boring. OMG. Every solo dungeon pretty much looks like every other solo dungeon. Group dungeons are pretty easy and basically doesn't require much skill. This game really doesn't require much skill. There is also no really great gear. Everything is crafted, and the loot isn't all that great.

I really had low standards for this game, and enjoyed it somewhat during the lvling from 1 - VR1, but was it worth the $100 I spent on a 3 month subscription and game? Probably not.

Elder Scrolls Online online is really hard. I died against Edward Norton multiples times while the queen of elves did nothing to save me. She and her Clan of Pusays wouldn't even walk down a dark flight of stairs to help me. Something about shin splints. Elder Scrolls online is like Crimson Skies. But not fun.

Even while you are questing with your friends it does not feel like you are sharing the same quest. You still have to complete your whole quest ( say you had to kill 10 boars, your party mate kills 5 and you kill 5. Normal MMOs your quest would be done. Not this one, you both still need to kill the 5 each. Same goes for any other quest.) Half the time my friend and i couldn't even see each othr while we were questing.

This game could have been a LOT better.

If you are going to play a great MMO, I recommend FF:ARR

You can't go from Skyrim to Elder Scrolls Online.... Bethesda and Zenimax dropped the ball on this one. This game had so much potential to be great but Zenimax and Bethesda clearly did not test it nearly enough and just released a game that just doesn't feel good to play.

The best word for this game is "Average." Aside from graphics which are decent but not top notch everything else is just anti-climatic. To a run of the mill WoW player this game is probably good... but to a Skyrim or Oblivion player it is simply awful.

Like most devoted ES fans, I was very excited about this game, but unfortunately, we haven't been given an ES game, only another poor generic WoW clone set in Tamriel.

Good - Graphics are decent, the increased scale makes cities feel more like actual cities than ES games like Skyrim etc. Character creation is decent and the concept of crafting is good; the idea of crafting multiple sets of the same level gear but differing in appearance depending on faction style really should have been in every scrolls game.

Bad - as with all MMO's, the role playing element is extremely diluted to the point that it doesn't feel like an RPG at all. The map is unremarkable and generic; ES fans should be loving the fact of seeing mainland Morrowind for the first time but it has nowhere near the impact of the offline scrolls games areas like Skyrim or Oblivion, its just meh. The combat sucks.

Verdict - Once again an MMO developer has been too afraid to create a unique game and has tried to copy much of WoW in order to steal some of their fan base. What they should have done was appeal to ES fans instead and give us another great scrolls game instead of this mess. 4/10 at best.

I'm sorry to say the game designers and animators are the most to blame for such an embarrassing boring failure of a game. My Dad, friends tried to play, couldn't see each other half the time and just quit after one week. Foremost, the quests are boring, dry and do not let you interact with friends at all time. Second, the animation is the next crime, every creature and character moves like a 'Borg Drone' with no life, stiff lifeless animation. Like corpses with no personality that kind of move. When you interact with NPCS, it reminds you of visiting a teller at a bank. The Art Director and leadership of this game dropped the ball hard, being 'blinded' by the beautiful environments and thinking that would carry the game. No, No that does not. There are also not enough classes, and all classes can 'self heal' and do not even need the help of your team mates. There are no roles that make you feel vital in a team (healer tank ranged dps etc). They also removed the tried and true SUCCESSFUL classes from their first two games (Arena / Daggerfall) in favor of a watered down 'dog mutt' system of character class. A true, sad disappointment to fans like myself who were 'crazed fans' since 1995. Expand

Exodus of players (recent merge of servers and reduction of pvp campaigns is a clear sign). Getting decent gear requires months of grinding the same dungeons over and over.

Decent PvP. Acceptable audio. Average combat. Mediocre visuals. Awful PvE.

The Elder Scrolls Online is a thoroughly average MMO with a thin veneer of TES paint. The only thing more disappointing than the quality of the game is my fear that this will negatively impact Bethesda's core series. Much like SW:ToR, this game has no heart or soul and is obviously a cash-grab using namesake alone.

In truth, the game just does not feel like a 'The Elder Scrolls' title, it feels like a third party has taken the brand and made an MMO based on the Bethesda franchise. Of course, with this being a Bethesda game, this is not the case. It is certainly a step towards a good game, but it falls short of being the big titled MMO that was expected. I am sure I am not the only one that was searching for and expecting similarities between the previous The Elder Scroll's games, but with suitable changes making the game appropriate for the MMO format, yet I feel that many of the key aspects that give the series up to now its personality and enjoyability seemed to have been missed.

When playing the game it simply feels unfinished, the vast amount of items and interactivity found in the series Single Player titles is not present to even near the same level, and with the Thieves Guild and Dark Brotherhood missing from the initial release, you feel as if Bethesda are holding features (perhaps already made) back to release at a later date to justify the hefty monthly fee they charge to pay. As mentioned above, key aspects of the previous titles seem missing. One of which is the variety of items and the feeling of being able to find some awesome items that may be useful in any chest. I went through the whole of the initial area finding water alone in almost every chest, with a few having some type of food in it. After leaving the first section and entering the outside world, I decided to explore, look around - yet there was no such enjoyment of being able to find secret caves, chests and secret items, the most I stumbled upon was some nirnroots. The traditional encouragement to explore seemed to have disappeared, with it being easy to navigate into territory not suitable for your level range where death comes quick and easy, and no real incentive to even do so, because most the places found seemed to come with quests that gave little to no rewards and many seemed to come up as destinations in chest chains anyway.

On top of this, but the connection to characters just was not there either. When playing Skyrim, Oblivion or even Morrowind, you felt a connection with some of the characters; you felt sad if one died or such as in Oblivion, if a Mage's guild is destroyed. Yet TES Online stirs no such connections up, at one point I got a choice of two parties of which I could save only one. Despite having been with these people for a while, I had little knowledge of one party and could not careless about the other. The choice to me seemed to be there to feel like the player got the power to impact the flow of the game, yet no matter the choice I made, the outcome was the same, just with different people stood about at the end.

Overall the game has some great points and it occupied me for a good few hours. However there is no justification to be spending so much monthly on it what-so-ever. I feel that may be if I were to pay in a year or so, when many releases had been made, bugs fixed and much needed balancing sorted, may be it would possibly be a bit more worth it. The main issue with this payment system is the later you start playing and paying, the better the worth of your money, because the game is bigger when you first begin.

This was the worst possible way to adapt TES to the MMO category.
They've essentially added network capability to a really bad Elder Scrolls game, sucked out all the flavor and atmosphere, made everything generic, and made everything into a gold grind.

That was after one month of it being live. Shortly after that, they announced it would be delayed for consoles. This game had promise and made promises and both were broken repeatedly. The group system is farce. This is the first MMO that doesn't have shared progress. I play with my son, and through the hundreds of quests, I believe we found 2 or 3 that had shared progress. The veteran system is not solo-friendly. As opposed to the 1-50 which is very solo-friendly. It feels like they actually designed the game to force soloists to conform to group play after 50. It's not impossible to level solo, just hard and be prepared to grind creature kills. There is another way though, the pvp daily quests, but your faction better control the majority of the map for that. The pvp is a game of capture the flag akin to any fps title out there, only here, gear and levels matter. Also pvp has a huge flaw with the mage aoe groups. They run in packs, and I mean run, so they are hard to target with siege machines and ground aoe. I could go on about veteran, but I'll end it by saying, get in a pvp guild if you want to war in Cyrodil and level like you did pre-veteran. The scenery is nice, but it's not skyrim quality. So I end this (cause I could go on) by saying "A lot of expectations, very few of them met." Expand

    1) Combat was really bad, clunky bad. No feelings, nothing at all. Sometimes your blade goes through the mob, and nothing happened.

Every character is bound to specific abilities, which is really boring.

    2) Crafting/Professions is purely for nothing. Sure, it is useful at first, but you're stuck with that armor or weapon for hours until a Quest gives you a newer one.

    3) Quests are buggy, to the extreme where they can not even be done. You don't see your reward at the end like most other MMO's do. There's quests that send you through a Solo-Dungeon, that has a boss in there that can kill you in 2 swipes, and you do nearly no damage on him/her.

    4) Dungeons are just... Unprepared. They were quickly added in. Why did I say that? Take a look at some. It looks like they threw in a bunch of hills, grass, maybe some water, boxes/crates/barrels, some "trash" and finally a boss, who is just sitting there looking dumb and normally solo. Easy alone, but becomes extremely difficult when a trash appears. Not to mention, most of the time, the Bots got to him before you. So you're waiting, with the bots, for him to respawn just so you can try to kill him/her. Make sure you're faster than a bot.

    5) Player and Parties. Okay, most MMO's like to have player interaction, right? This game doesn't. You can add people to a party, for no extra benefits. Except for probably a group dungeon. Here's the kicker, if you remove them, they're still there in the same instance. They'll continue doing what they were doing which made you kick them. Worthless. Not to mention, you don't really share loot, it's assigned to one person and all of it is theirs.

    6) Now, I enjoy this profession a lot, and a lot of people hate it. Fishing. Extremely bugged. You catch fish that are worth about 3 gold (wow, so little) and you finally caught a rare fish. It disappears and you never really got it. Now, where's that excitement? Gone, and turned into anger. Those fish are worth a lot of Gold. Plus Bait is difficult to obtain. I mainly mean the Worms. Guts and Insect Parts are fairly common. Worms on the other hand must be gathered from plants, and other players are farming them as well.

    7) The game is $59.99 box price that comes with 1 month free. Okay, sounds fair... However, that 1 month free is worthless and will not activate, if you don't buy a month. Which requires a credit card, or a game card from a store (which I still haven't found) So great! You were not informed you needed a credit card, and just wasted about $60 for a game you can't play because you don't have a credit card, or the stores do not have a game card. Genius Elder Scrolls strikes again! -.-
You can't even register your game online without a credit card, so worthless, once again.

    8) What kind of graphics are these??? I normally don't judge a game on graphics, but once I do, something is wrong. It doesn't even look as good as Skyrim's graphics, which is a older game. This is 2014, why give us a crappy looking game that doesn't play well? Not to mention, a lot of players, including myself, get a lot of graphical errors and it isn't pretty.

    9) Some of the voice acting... SUCKS. Example, talk Brackenleaf, whose a tree in a zone (don't remember). Yeah... it's a human's voice, not modified either. Doesn't sound like a tree would at all.

    10) Remember the professions? Yeah, you have to get recipes just to progress further in them. And they're about a 1% chance to find inside houses... Yeah... Have fun. Oh cooking and fishing? You'd think they go together, right? NOPE. Completely useless. In fact, fishing, though I enjoy it, is useless in the game if it has no use in cooking.

    Positives?

    1) The nature and towns in this game is great. Honestly.

    2) Story isn't too bad, but could have been a lot better. Quite boring honestly.

One more theme park game. Bugged and bad graphics annoyed me so much I ended to level 15 and had to delete the game. I can cant understand these 10 score givers. Even you are a fan you can clearly see its not worthy to pay. I think this game is free to play end of this year and closed down after few desperate expansions. Honestly It gets 2 points from me only as it had so nice cinematic.

1: Riddled with bugs and it's been months since launch.
2: Botters everywhere with fly and speedhacks and you can hardly level your crafting because of it.
3: Third person feels like the only option, and it really takes away from your character.
4: The quests all suck. "Go here, talk to this guy, pick up this item, take it to this guy."
5: The engine used to make this game is old and the graphics are mediocre at best (my system is really good too). The movement and mechanics also suck.
6: Skyrim kicks the crap out of this game. In every single possible way.
7: Monthly fee? How about no.
8: The price for a half baked game that anyone could have made in their basement with the same publicly available game engine? How about no.
9: Zenimax put no effort into making this game and it's really apparent within 2 minutes of leaving the character creation screen.
10: Do you like micro-transactions that are more like $20? No? They have that, too.
11: You have to buy a month of play time before you get your free month promised with purchase.

Ignore the "OMG THIS GAME IS TEH BEST EVAH!" reviews on here.. seriously.

Your gold prices are absolutely INSANE. Seriously. My level 10 Templar just got a 2,000 GOLD REPAIR BILL.. at level TEN. TEN. As in, 1 and 0. TEN. What the ()*#%$ is this crap?! 17k for ONE horse... you're kidding me right?

Third - While I applaud your battle against spambots, you guys simply aren't doing enough. WHY do I have to ignore a bot, THEN report a bot, THEN type and select dropdown menus, THEN submit the repot, THEN wait around for confirmation? Go play WoW. Take a page from their book. (please, Im BEGGING you at this point..) Click name - Report Spam. BAM. DONE. Instantly Reported/Screenshot/Ignored. All in ONE mouse click. ONE. This is 2014, not 1998. I shouldn't have to feel like I'm working with DoS just to submit a spambot report. DON'T turn into FFXIV ARR and just put this on the back burner.. THIS NEEDS ADDRESSED ASAP.

Fourth - Spambots are annoying... Bots FLOODING dungeon bosses are even more so. Seriously. My wife and I cannot complete a SINGLE dungeon because of the 30+ Bots named IHSDHSCBHA and ASCFRFJSAS using Templar Spear. Honestly, it's so beyond annoying that it's becoming outright anger inducing at this point.

Fifth - This is why almost EVERY MMO moved far far away from "public" dungeons ala EverQuest 1998, "Camping" mobs, idiot trains, and a flood of bot farming kills any sense of "immersion." Not to mention there is ZERO challenge involved in any of them due to the fact there is a constant congo line of players running in and out.. so no mobs are ever up to actually FIGHT. IT IS 110% MIND-NUMBINGLY BORING.

Sixth - Mages suck. Im sorry, I hate to say it.. I dont WANT to say it.. but it's true. They are absolutely TERRIBLE. Unless you take a VERY specific skill selection (freedom of customization is OUT the window for a mage.) you are 100% useless. 99.99% of the time, Im out of mana before I've killed the 2nd mob on a 3 mob pull.. I guess I just tell jokes to the last mob and hope it dies laughing? Meanwhile the Templar/Nightblade/Dragonknight are still wailing away full power with no downtime.

Seventh - Have I mentioned yet the gold prices in this game are absolutely jacked up beyond all human reason and comprehension? Seriously. When It costs 100 gold to MAIL an item to someone... YOU. ARE. WRONG. 10 Gold JUST to send a regular mail is obnoxious to begin with.. but ADDING massive amounts of gold cost for EACH item sent in said mail is just plain stupid. Flat cost, with a SMALL fee PER item sent, NOT a ridiculous fee per VALUE of item sent.

The game's grouping is a COMPLETE disaster, utterly boring, buggy and just plain tedious. The Dungeons are the EXACT same way.. the "bosses" are a joke, no challenge, no excitement.. nothing.

No housing, no wives/husbands, no kids, no pets.. armor designs are bland, brown, and look like stuff I saw in Morrowind 20 years ago.. with about as much enthusiasm.

No Stealing, no assassinations, no crime.. NOTHING. There is NO "Choice" here. You do WHAT they say, WHEN they say it. PERIOD.

There is no UI, no nameplates, no way to tell good from bad from merchant or beggar. You waste AGES just trying to figure out which NPC's sell what and where.. the entire time you could be doing something actually FUN instead. Using the weak ass excuse of "immersion" as a smoke screen for their absolute failure to realize what an MMO is actually SUPPOSED to be.

There is NO Customization for 3 of the 4 classes. Especially mages. Want to be a pure storm mage? #(*$ You. You're useless. Want to focus on a healing staff and Dark Magic? (#$# You. YOU'RE USELESS! Want to just summon Daedric minions with some cool storm powers? .. yeah.. you already know where it's going. USELESS. What happened to summoning weapons, armor etc. What happened to the ACTUAL mage SPELLS?!

The WORST part is you are supposed to be "The CHOSEN ONE! OMG!" ... again.. for the 10,000th game... only now.. there's 2 million+ other "CHOSEN ONES!" running around right next to you.

This is a cookie cutter mmo with NO free trial and a LIMITED access Beta to steal as much money as possible before it goes Free to play in 6 months once the word gets out how absolutely terrible it actually is. Maybe less.

As an MMORPG, and having played World of Warcreft, Tera and Guild Wars 2 (I played more than these, but these here are the better templates to compare TESO's aspects) I couldnt find anything new or revolutionary in this game, or even any aspects with a better or refreshing execution than in the previous games i had played. First time I played, I noticed the combat felt floaty and shallow, since I had the expectations that this would be the strong aspect of the game. The combat was slightly tuned throughout the following beta sessions, but it ended being a mix of Guild Wars 2 and Tera systems that ended up feeling inferior than its counterparts. The quest had no appealing, and the rewards were discouraging, something we beta testers complained about several times during all of the beta sessions, but was never fixed, just like much other things, like race mixing, trade systems, ability approach and development, npc's placement and presence on important areas, broken quest that were never fixed, and for god sake, the party system! You cant share a quest with your friends. Well, you can, but they still will have to do them by themselves, so it doesnt matter that you shared a mission it will be the same as going alone, since you will have to perform the same actions, but with two or more people, meaning less loot , and more time to complete, since there are more people gathering objectives. We complained about those things, we filled the surveys in each beta session, and we got ignored. You looked up in forums just to see hundreds of people complaining about the same problems, which never got fixed.

In the end, it ended up being a mediocre to average MMORPG that made you constantly think: "This was so much better in Tera/GW2/WoW depending on the aspect you were analyzing".

    ---------------------------------
    1. Superb graphics and music/sound
    2. Storyline and many side quests to keep you going
    3. many items to collect
    4. huge maps to explore
    5. PVP kinda fun at beginning

    Cons. (major limitation/failure)
    -------------------------------------------
    1. No market / Auction House (AH): basically its very hard to sell the item you gain from hunting/grinding or the items you make to other players.

    2. No Admins or Mods in the game, since its early access till now. No customer support at all.

    3. many hackers/ money spammers/scammers/ads: they created their own accounts in the game based on some exploit and spam everyone in the game, you get their spam on chat, private messages, guild invitation, guild messages, admin messages, all sort of things.

    4. Item Duplication: occurred on 18th April (as i heard by some people), game dev. didn't talked about it. Those who knew about it, made more than 100k gold... and it caused collapse of the gold value in the fresh start of the game. (no money removal, or server rollback to remove the excess money), and since there is no online admins or moderators, finding exploits by dev. are always too late.

    5. PVP quest exploit: occurred on the first days of the game, there was a quest in the PVP map (Cyrodiil) that gives a lot of experience and can be repeated indefinitely... Some people reached from lvl 10-50 in 12 hours playing only from playing this quest. Later they fixed the quest but it was late, many people already maxed the levels in the first 4-10 days and made the unbalance in the PVP server.

many more things, in conclusion, this game only fun at the start, later you will see that there is no fun like playing skyrim or other series of Elder Scrolls, no depth in the game, just grind, do quests, collect items (harvesting) do pvp and pay them $15 a month. No customer support, a lot of gold spammers, many bugs/crashes/ exploits, unbalanced pvp.... not worth it. go play another mmorpg game better, this game got ruined cause of lack of support and early glitches and exploits.

Perhaps the only way to this game now to be fair, if they open a new mega server...

The whole problem of this game has always been and still is, trying to combine the elder scrolls to a MMO environment, someone says they failed, someone says they did a great job, what i think is that they made a mixup that is barely decent in both aspects, the REAL PROBLEM, sadly is that you don't really want to have a barely decent mixup of these two things.
That's why people always played single players immersive games and MMOs separetely.

It lacks the depth and immersion of a real single player "elder scrolls" game. It's not really bad, they made a good effort trying to eliminate the usual mmo-like quests (kill 20 X, gather 15 Y) but they ended up being repetitive in other kind of stuffs(ghosts and dreams anyone?) and that ends up being boring anyway after a bit of time.

What i found incredibly disapponting on the MMO aspect is the total lacking of game mechanics complexity. There are no builds, the are really no items to choose from.

It seems like there is a lot of personalization of you character (many skill trees, strange combinations like mages in heavy armor with dual wield)... but it's not really personalization if you can revert that anytime and end up being able to do anything and to complete every single skill tree just by collecting all the skill points.

When i heard some people from DAOC worked on it, i hoped to finally see a game where equipment wasn't just a dress piece with a color to measure his effectivness for your character.
I believe i've never seen a mmo with such a dull and pointless equipment system. Crafting is almost useless, enchanting makes a 4/5 dmg difference from droppable glyphs. No personalization, no builds, no creativity involved even here. Nothing even close to resemble daoc really good equip-system.

PvP is chaotic, the combat system feels strange and doesn't help you at all,.
You pass all your time trying to understand what to do and where to go, but what happens is just 1 faction alternatively crushing another, forever and ever. You need to make a lot of walking to reach fights that always go entirely 1-way. with not even many people dying.

Pvp rewards are just non-existent , you make pratically no exp points and after the first levels you advance in rank very slowly, even worse if you aren't in a group.

Personally i think this mmo is just another useless hole in the water, it could have been an almost-decent single-player experience if he didn't require you so much time to level up and see the main quest ending.

They tought naming Daoc and inserting a 3 realm RVR pvp system to think people would blindly come to play thing ignoring the fact that it's not 1/8 as deeply structured as daoc was in terms of equipment/builds/classes and setups.

I mean, even comparing a game with 4 classes with one who had almost 30 different ones? come on...

Also the 4-people parties are really bad and limitative.

Where do I even begin with the disappointment in this game? There are so many incredibly stupid design choices its baffling. First things first, I just have to come out and say that this game is a HUGE cash grab. They lock the imperial race behind a pay wall right off the bat. You have to buy the collector's edition to unlock it. WHAT THE F*** This is downright criminal when you're already paying 60$ for the game plus a 15$ subscription fee. Next, there aren't instanced dungeons, meaning that if somebody else is in a dungeon and they kill the boss or take loot out of a chest you then have to wait for it to respawn. I'M SORRY, IS THIS THE ORIGINAL ULTIMA ONLINE? IS IT 1997? This is unacceptable in MMO's now a days. Get used to standing around in dungeons waiting for loot to respawn, or for bosses to respawn so you can run through a mosh pit of people, hoping to get 1 hit on it so as to complete the quest or continue the quest line. Gold is WAY too hard to get, every enemy drops like 1 or 2 gold and horses are incredibly overpriced. Why? Well you didn't think Zenimax and Bethesda would miss the chance to sell you the collector's edition that comes with a horse would ya? The story is generic and uninteresting and while the game is fully voice-acted which is great, it is very hit and miss quality wise. The graphics look dated, but are quite good for MMO standards. Questing is a huge disappointment. Every quest is the stereotypical MMO "kill x amount of x" Or "Fetch x" uninspired and dull. One of my favorite gaming moments is that quest for the Dark Brotherhood in Oblivion where you have to go to a dinner party and assassinate each person in the house 1 by 1 without the others finding out its you. That was awesome. Why aren't there more quests like that in this game? Oh that's right, because its an MMO, its legally obligated to have watered down gameplay and quest variety. The game has a huge amount of content, which can only be added on to as time goes on. This would be great if everything wasn't so far away with so little to do while traveling between quest objectives. Maybe the most heinous, inexcusable offense of ESO is the fact that it takes the signature open world of The Elder Scrolls franchise and condenses it to linear paths to get to the next quest objective. Sure the game is open world, but you won't want to explore anything because you can only really gain experience from completing quests, and not from fighting enemies, you know like a real elder scrolls game! Another serious design flaw is the fact that every enemy levels with you, meaning that instead of having some enemies be a low level and some being a higher level, they just make mud crabs level 30 when you're level 30. This takes all the immersion and exploration factor out of the game because you're rarely if ever going to find an enemy that you can't handle. Overall, when quests aren't being bugged out, (honestly about 2/3 of them) they're dull and uninteresting anyway. Another stupid design choice is the fact that, because dungeons and quests aren't instanced, when you play with friends, every person has to do everything separately, whether it be getting quest objectives or doing puzzles in group dungeons, defeating the purpose of playing with friends which, you know IS THE WHOLE POINT OF THIS GAME! Crafting makes no sense and pvp can be summed up by two words: Running Simulator. Combat is stiff and repetitive and impossible in the weightless and floaty 1st person view. The customization is a step up from past ES games, even if the armor all looks the same and the soundtrack is amazing. When the only thing the game gets truly right is the soundtrack, you know its having a rough go. I went into this game as both a fan of The Elder Scrolls and to some extent a fan of MMOs, knowing that it wasn't going to be a Skyrim like experience, but was so disappointed in both aspects. Ultimately, ESO is nothing more than a lazy cash-in that preys on starstruck ES fans and both Bethesda and Zenimax know it. It doesn't help that the modern Gaming hype machine has brainwashed them into thinking this is a good game. There are far better MMOs out there, like Guildwars 2, FFXIV ARR and hell even WOW is still going strong. This game is un-fulfilling to both fans of MMOs and the Elder Scrolls series. If this did not have the ES name on it, it would be just another mediocre MMO that wouldn't get any time in the limelight. Not worth 60$ plus 15 bucks a month. Wait till it goes F2P or P2W which honestly probably won't be too long. Hopefully Bethesda takes the riches from this game and makes a good Fallout game or new single player ES game. Expand

I'm sorry but this is a casual pile of rushed wank. Horrible combat, Bugged and unfinished PvE and a community of botters, farmers and dupe glitchers that have DESTROYED the economy within a few weeks of launch. This was a terrible MMO and a mediocre Elder Scrolls game. The PvP was okay but nothing you can't get from games like Guild Wars 2. I can't recommend this game at all, I say if youI'm sorry but this is a casual pile of rushed wank. Eight years of development, a team consisting of even 250 people at some points, budget reaching hundreds of millions of dollars. It’s a pity that this ‘Skyrim Online’ disappoints both fans of previous Bethesda games and MMORPG veterans who expected some fresh air in the stale genre. [06/2014, p.44]

A well done MMO that can lure players not familiar with the genre. But if you've played MMOs before, this one doesn't offer anything new, nor anything exciting.

60 days was more then enough time for me to determine that I would rather spend my time elsewhere.
