    It was much better than I was expecting. It's obviously gorgeous to look at, a little stiff to control, but that stiffness in controls doesn't hurt your chances at a good experience. It was sufficiently scary, but those scares were jump scares most of the time. The "keep calm" rhythmic heartbeat mechanic worked well to building tension and the mysteries were very cool.     Horror game developers will never learn that a cheap jumpscare is not the way to make a game scary. There's so many screaming/scary things that pop up on your screen that it's just annoying, not scary.
    The graphics and gameplay/story is good but the cheap scares just make it another good "horror" game wasted...

    Не знаю уж о какой реиграбельности речь, но я и в первый раз прошел игру еле-еле дотерпев до конца. Надеюсь дальнейшие проекты антологии больше оправдают мои ожидания. Персонажи может и интересные, каждый со своей историей, но ты не успеваешь ни к кому привязаться, это тоже одна из проблем игры.Не знаю уж о какой реиграбельности речь, но я и в первый раз прошел игру еле-еле дотерпев до конца.     Un juego decepcionante

Arrancando por lo bueno de este juego y son los graficos, el juego se ve muy muy bien, el nivel de detalle que tienen las texturas son muy buenas.    Un juego decepcionante

    Arrancando por lo bueno de este juego y son los graficos, el juego se ve muy muy bien, el nivel de detalle que tienen las texturas son muy buenas.

    La musica, esta ok, esta bastante por debajo de la de Until Dawn, una musica muy generica en el ambiente de terror.

    Y ahora es cuando arrancamos con lo malo de este juego, la historia no me gusto para nada, tranquilamente podria haber durado 40 minutos pero no, hay algunas cosas que no tienen sentido y de obligan a tomar decisiones que no van por buen camino o no son muy eticas.

    Las actuaciones, movimientos y desarrollo de los dialogos son muy muy pobres, carecen de expresiones faciales los personajes.

    Algo que destaca de este juego es el modo cooperativo, donde podes jugar con un amigo por internet o localmente hasta 5 jugadores, la idea es genial pero no funciona; intente jugar con mi amigo por internet y tuvimos muchisimos problemas con los servidores, cada 15 minutos se cortaban, y esta funcion hace que cada jugador tenga una perspectiva distinta del videojuego, ya que no puedo ver lo que esta haciendo mi amigo. Y todo esto te obliga a jugarlo en solitario.

    Otros problemas que tuve fueron los subtitulos, yo lo jugue en ingles con subtitulos en español, y duran muy poco tiempo obligando a leerlo super rapido sin prestarle mucha atencion, e inclusive se trababa el subtitulo y no pasaba al siguiente, ademas de subtitulos que no aparecen. Otro problema son las cinematicas que se me cortaban a cada rato o cinematicas mezcladas sin sentido alguno.

    Otro problema fue la jugabilidad, es decir, hay momentos donde tenes que apretar alguna tecla especifica en un periodo de tiempo super super corto, lo cual para mi fue imposible, esto te obiga a tener bien sujeto el joystick y estando atento para el momento en que te toque apretar una tecla.

    Los controles no funcionan bien, yo lo jugue con joystick y cuando arrancaba el juego parecia que empezaba a jugar con teclado, la solucion es pausar el juego y reanudarlo.

    Una cosa que no me gusto es que se perdieran las funciones del Dualshock 4 que tenia el Until Dawn, reemplazaron la funcion de mantener quieto el joystick por apretar una tecla como si fuera el Guitar Hero, el trackpad ya no funciona.

    En resumen, no lo recomiendo, un juego con muchos problemas tecnicos y con una historia no muy buena.    … Expand

    I played this on PC, as it's my preferred form of gaming. The first line of dialogue made me break out in laughter. Not because of a witty line cleverly written by the creators, no. I laughed my ass off for 3 minutes because of how horrendous the acting, movements, emotes were. Even if this were a regular movie, it would still be trash! The acting, writing, story... It's all so boring and just uninspired. The concept of an interactive horror movie is great, sure, but if I continuously had the urge to browse r/DankMemes during the cut scenes due to boredom, you know it's not good.     First of all, the    I loved Until Dawn and was excited to give this game a go. While the DNA can certainly be felt in places, it doesn't quite live up to its precedent.     First of all, the game is shorter, lending itself more toward replaying for alternative choices, and I think the wealth of choices and outcomes is a huge plus in this game's favor.

    I started a second playthrough and it's impressive just how much character interactions can change based on past decisions, while the personality trait system of Until Dawn felt superfluous at times, you can feel its influence in moments. Saying something brash can make your character act more confident later on, as opposed to if you chose the other option and your character might approach the same conversation/scenario completely differently.

    Another neat moment I had was after finishing the game, I replayed the final chapter hoping to make a decision that would lead to something very specific happening. I was surprised when what I wanted to happen didn't happen at all simply because of one small thing I didn't do earlier, and I got to see a scene that a lot of people probably won't see playing through the game naturally.

    The main thing holding me back from an 8/9 score is the story, you will probably solve the game's mysteries long before the characters do. The characters can be hit or miss - Fliss appears to be the fan favorite and I can see why.

    Additionally there are small technical problems that might frustrate you such as dark, almost monochromatic environments where it can be hard to find your way forward. There were also a few times my character would attempt to walk forward and get caught on some part of the environment and I'd have to wiggle them off.

    Over all, I say that if you're a fan of Until Dawn or narrative-based games in general, it's worth a try especially if you can get it on sale. I will most likely be playing the next game in the anthology when that comes out.    … Expand

    Clunky controls, cliched and unoriginal dialogue, you'd be better off buying this for the comedic value of the terrible vocal acting and crappy story. Save your money

    Ждал игру т.к. PS4 у меня нету, а годных интерактивных фильмов на Пк почти нету(Игры Telltale Games не беру в счёт). Проходил прошлую игру Supermassive Games я благополучно на ютубе, как и 80% Пк геймеров, и ожидал такого же атмосферного ужастика как и Until Down, но получилось, что-то непонятное при этом не особо страшное! Запомнился только один скример с угрём в самолёте под водой.Ждал игру т.к. PS4 у меня нету, а годных интерактивных фильмов на Пк почти нету(Игры Telltale Games не беру в счёт).     Awful clunky controls, paper thin characters, unoriginal story, bad voice acting, lifeless environments, cutscenes with awful camera angles (because some scenes might be missing depending on choices) making them seem disconnected, QT events are too fast and therefore too easy to make a mistake, in general a bad game. I've finished it once and uninstalled it immediately.

    If you enjoy bad horror movies on netflix, you might enjoy this one.

    For hardcore/horror gamers.. don't. Awful jumpscares, extremely annoying characters and absolutely absurd writing for the dialogues. The game is 4 hours long and feels like 2 of those should be scraped off, bad pacing, bad story. It's just decent graphics and thats it.

    Very bad game honestly. Dont play co-op. Dialogues gonna be very bad. 3 hours of gameplay. Graphic its not good not bad. Story is better in Metin2 than Rambo Video Game. Dont buy it. Better go play again UNTIL DAWN then Heavy Rain not this.

    I don't actually play horror games but I am a HUGH fan of them. I make my husband play them while I watch. Some of my favorites include silent hill, outcast 2, penumbra, fatal frame, and of course until dawn. I recently bought man of medan and so far we have played through twice.     And if you only play these games one time, maybe wait for a sale but i dont think it is a bad spent money.
    Third, The acting is totally fine, maybe some lines are a bit weird and some are even cringe but its not that bad, there are a few bugs to fix but nothing that will ruin your play session.
    If you enjoy these types of games, dont let the reviews of people that might like more action driven games private you from playing this game, youll enjoy it.

    El Juego es muy interesante , la narrativa no es perfecta pero cumple con lo que se esperaba, la jugabilidad esta acorde a un juego al estilo until dawn ( osea esta bien), la cantidad de finales y variantes son bastantes, pero no me dio la sensación de que sea muy rejugable, mi única critica es que la cantidad hs/precio es muy alto, es un juego muy corto, me hubiese gustado por lo menos 6El Juego es muy interesante , la narrativa no es perfecta pero cumple con lo que se esperaba, la jugabilidad esta acorde a un juego al estilo until dawn ( osea esta bien), la cantidad de finales y variantes son bastantes, pero no me dio la sensación de que sea muy rejugable, mi única critica es que la cantidad hs/precio es muy alto, es un juego muy corto, me hubiese gustado por lo menos 6 horas . pero en resumen es un juego muy correcto... estoy con ansias de jugar a little hope.… Expand

    I played through solo, not sure I will do the multiplayer to be honest. But I will say I enjoyed the game my wife and friend watched as I played and helped make the decisions. We will definitely play through a few more times.

    To be honest before reading the reviews we talked about the price at the end of the game and all felt is was well worth the price of admission.     I have read the voice acting was horrible but we did not find it to be so. I will say however the controls are clunky and the movement does look funky like they dont have a care in the world.

    Overall well worth the 30$ price tag and with more of them to come over the next 5 years we will be getting them all.    … Expand

    I played this game with some friends on the Movie Night mode. This led to extremely long stretches of just waiting around so you can play your character, especially with this game pushing its multiplayer modes as much as it does. The games only horror coming from this horror game is from it's overabundance of low quality jump scares.    This may very well be the worst game I've ever played.

    Графика красивая, а все остальное - ужасно. Если ожидаете чего-то наподобие Until Dawn - будете разочарованы.

    Good in visuals and horrible in all other aspects. If you expect that this game will be as good as Until Dawn you will be dissapointed.

    The first impression lasts a lifetime. I´m glad, that i tried it anyway (after a couple of months).
    The technical hick ups are out of my way and now I can finally enjoy the game and I enjoyed it a lot.
    I love the atmosphere, the ghostship setting, the audio is great and the graphics are too.
    Looking foreward to the next ghost story.

Instead of sickening horror, the horror is not just the monster appearance but also how the monsters came to be, "Man of Medan" takes its cues from "Tales of the Crypt" and "The Shining." This is more of a fun creep fest than intense disturbance.

    In    This is a wonderful follow up to "Until Dawn" that goes a different route instead of replicating the sickening creepiness of "Until Dawn." Instead of sickening horror, the horror is not just the monster appearance but also how the monsters came to be, "Man of Medan" takes its cues from "Tales of the Crypt" and "The Shining." This is more of a fun creep fest than intense disturbance.

    In fact, during gameplay, thinking of "Outlast 2" which tried to replicate the intense horror of "Outlast 1" but misstep with having an open air environment, which took away the claustrophobic horror from the first one. The smart move here has been to recognize that once the novelty wears off, you can't replicate what made an initial entry spark - you need to build on the previous one. "Man of Medan" takes the core gameplay of the first and adds to it, by introducing us to the grander, episodic world. How intense can you replicate a known horror? Part of horror is the unknown ,that the mystery itself is horrifying, and so, if drama is ruled out, well the flipside of drama is comedy.

    Where we may have initially wanted to murder each of the main characters in "Until Dawn" straight away, "Man of Medan" presents characters you root for - maybe with the exception of Conrad, he's jackass, but can grow on you. Instead of an facile open air environment, being trapped on a mountain and the monsters induce claustrophobia, the story situates itself in a physically claustrophobic environment. And since we have a playful narrator and the intro has set the tone of "Tales of the Crypt," you feel as if you're peering in on a haunted house - seeing the set up for a good scare and waiting, just waiting, for the scare to drop, to see the characters jump back as their minds play tricks on them.

    So, if you're looking for intense, disturbing horror - this will not be your cup of tea. If you're looking for a good time, a spookfest, and feeling like you get to be in on the joke as you watch a character walk into a "Uh - oh, oh no" moment, then this is your cup of tea. Lots of fun, good spooks, but most importantly, a good time!    … Expand

    Man of medan has a good gameplay. The story is itself is ok. Nothing special, but good and you call actually feel the tension. The characters are ok. However it must me like 50% The price. 3-4hours campaign is to short in my opinion. You kinda miss the relationship with the characters. Let's wait for the second game. Hope it is longer.

    Es un gran juego muy inmersivo, con muchos sustos y momentos muy tensos. La duración es bastante escasa 3h aprox, pero el precio es tambien ajustado a la duración. recomendable al 100%.

Man of Medan is the beginning of a new horror series created by Supermassive Games, the creators of Until Dawn, the premise is interesting, a haunted ship... you don't see that setting in video games that often, but... those that makes it a really good and scary game?
    Unfortunately, Man of Medan does not improve at all from it's previous title, it uses the same mechanics of exploration, dialog and action selection that will eventually cause a consequence later in the story, but aside of that... it bring nothing new to the table.
    Visually is not an improvement from Until Dawn, the game was built in the Unreal 4 Engine, it has some nice lighting and at times models and scenarios look believable real, but it doesn't look any better than, again, Until Dawn.
    I do like the way it handle horror, it introduce itself as a paranormal haunting horror story but at the end is switch to a more psychological horror territory.
    So... it's not a bad game, it is pretty good, but the game is nothing more than a copy/paste of it's predecessor.    … Expand

O jogo falha drasticamente em apresentar um feeling de terror; os personagens são muito inespressivos e irracionais - tão cliche..., o que faz com que todo o perigo de morte apresentado seja inutil, pois ningue liga se um personagem ou outro morrer, e isso implica para o proximo ponto.

    Alguem explica para os desenvolvedores que aqueles jumpscares são totalmente mal construidos e não funcionam?!
    Serio, errra é humano, mas eles investiram tanto nisso que passou do nivel de burrice.
    Para que um jumpscare seja bem feito, precisamos de um feeling de terror já proposto a um tempo. Ele não pode ser previsivel, muito menos inutil. Aqui, nesse jogo, temos jumpscares de tudo. Desde uma tubulação ou rato a até mesmo o rosto da pessoa tomando susto.
    A historia não convençe, muito menos os marinheiros sequestradores ou ous proprios "refens" controlaveis e suas atitudes estupidas.

    O jogo é mal otimizado, pesando muito no processador. Os graficos são aceitaveis, mas nada demais.    … Expand

    If you are the type of person that easily gets distracted by plot holes, logical fallacies and typical cinematic goofs, you should wait for a sale.

    If you are the type of person that hates unresponsive controls, invisible barriers, as well as effective, but also very convenient camera restrictions, you should wait for a sale. If you are the type of person that laughs and/or gets    If you are the type of person that easily gets distracted by plot holes, logical fallacies and typical cinematic goofs, you should wait for a sale.

    If you are the type of person that hates unresponsive controls, invisible barriers, as well as effective, but also very convenient camera restrictions, you should wait for a sale.

    If you are the type of person that laughs and/or gets annoyed because of jump scares and they don't translate into horror for you, you should wait for a sale and than wait for the sale after that one.

    If you sneer at the "stiff neck" school of facial animations and bad lip synch, wait for a sale.

    If you are impatient and get easily bored by oh so slowly crossing the same set of corridors over and over again while keeping in mind that the game is praised for it's replay value, which means that you will have to replay all of that to experience said replay value, wait for a sale, wait for the next sale, forget the game, get it accindentally in some bundle and never play it.

    If you are more than one of the aforementioned types of players, watch some screaming youtuber to take the last bit of fun out of it if you still feel the itch to get this one. It's a waste of your time, your money, and the talent of most people who were involved into making this. Most of the indiviual parts - graphics, voice acting, sound etc - are quite good, they just don't add up to a good game.

    For me it has been a reminder that movies and games just don't mix well. See pretty much every game made out of a movie and every movie made out of a game. There are too many developers who would rather be directors, but for some reason ended up making games.

    The occasional seconds of interaction and choice are worn down by long minutes of watching cutscenes and having no control or choice whatsoever. You can't explore anything except for jumpscares, and it's almost impossible to not collect all the "secrets" since you have no real freedom of movement, nothing is really hidden, and on top of that every point of interest blinks and shows you an immersion breaking icon. To top it off the story will regularly be interrupted in well-made, but completely unnecessary scenes where the narrator takes over, following traditions that you either liked in similar tv formats or will hate just as much in this game.

    You feel restricted and directed in all the wrong ways and all the wrong situations. My favorite is the reminder to press "W" whenever you haven't moved for two seconds, since you found something interesting enough to look at it. Not only that the "game" can't stand you having a mind of your own, in 80 % of those cases "W" will direct you against a wall. While all the relationship changes and "bearings"(choices that will change the course of the story) sound interesting enough in theory, the thought of having to replay this really does not.    … Expand

    Solid first part of the Dark Pictures, but doesnt quite live up to Until Dawn imo. Story is far more predictable too. Its a good time tho, especially since its not a full price game, I would recommend it to anyone that loves horror and games where your choices matter

    Die Story ist Spannend Inszeniert und halt die Spannung bis zum Ende Aufrecht.
    Technisch sowie Grafisch gibt es aber immer wieder kleinere Probleme. So will die Steuerung manchmal partu nicht reagieren, Der/die Held(en) einfach mal nicht durch eine offene Tür gehen und die QTEs sind oft so rasend schnell das man kaum Zeit zum reagieren hat.
    Grafisch gibt es mal hier und da Probleme mit der Beleuchtung, Figuren halten gegenstände nicht richtig in der Hand oder der Gegenstand schwebt vor dem Charakter.
    Doch trotz der Fehler hält Man of Medan einen gut bei Laune und ist absolut empfehlenswert für Leute die Spiele wie Heavy Rain oder Until Dawn mögen.

    Great game! I like these types of games the narrative adventure games. And Man of Medan delivers in that aspect.
    It wasn't as scary as some made me believe but there are some very intensive parts in the game that might make some people choose different that they would if they weren't affraid i quess.

    Ok the "tutorial" chapter was a bit weak but the first diving chapter was really good. Good acting, nice graphics. Excellent sound. Excited for more!

    Nice game, but really short. I know it is meant to be repeated to check multiple outcomes but even though I expected a longer story. The graphic however are stunning:) And there are few moments that I actually got scared and jumped from a chair, which is not so common and easy to do, so huge applause for that. I had no problems with optimization, with the exception of rare FPS drawdowns, but this is when playing at high graphics settings. The plot is quite suitable for fun in the company of a friend.     Its a enjoyable experience although there is a big (and I mean BIG) chance that you will figure the main plot of the game out at the very start.
    Still, game offers few good scares and you can absolutely play it multiple times to test out different plot routs and endings.
    Sadly the writing and characters are very poor at times that can distract from being immerse in to the story.

    You can literally see that they cut together pieces from other paths and that just feels like: wtf

    They really gotta learn to run this through Q/A against an audience that doesn't know anything about the game and then take that and refine the game prior to releasing it.

    Bottom line:
    For an interactive movie-ish game it really lacks in storytelling, and the gameplay just makes it worse.

    Buena historia, buen guion, te mantiene en tension en muchos momentos. La duracion es un poco justa, pero prefiero un juego que te haga vibrar 5 horas enteritas, que otro que dure el donle y se siente vacio en momentos.

    Much like Until Dawn, you control each of the 5 characters… Though this is more than just an interactive movie.. as all 5 vcan die, you can awkwardly misstep and that’s the end for yourcharacter, there is no last second heroic save you can expect from movies and that’s what makes supermassive so unique with what they deliver.. youre choices and actions have consequence.. where the game falls flat though is in its story, there isn’t much o a mystery to solve here, theres word on this mist that makes you go crazy, but its more so just an escpe the shi[ alive story, nothing pulling you through other than that… but it still manages to do well enough to make you want to go back and do things differently if you do lose a character, which is what a game like this needs to do, it needs to want you to go back and choose different paths, I just wish things were more interesting, though there is only so much you can do with a ghost ship, but at the same time, not enough was done with this ghost ship. They played with the idea of seeing the ship and ghosts form different time periods, and I would’ve loved to see them play with this more..
    Overall though, Im happy with what Supermassive Games seems to be doing with this series, it’s a fresh take on the horror genre, no more finding missing doorknobs and valves for 10 hours, just a to the point story of try to keep everyone alive..

    A very interesting story that has a few surprises; some cliché characters certainly, but that work again practically as well as Until Dawn.
    As it hits, the narrative is improvable and the screamer is abused instead of betting on an even more cushioning environment.

    *GAMEPLAY*: Enough problems in this section: the camera works perfectly at almost every moment, but the movement is very very rough and there is little playable variety (unlike in Until Dawn).

    This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. I have never played Until Dawn but heard good things about it, so I decided to give this a try. The game is VERY short (my first playthrough took me around three and a half hours. First impressions were pretty bad (the soldier intro after world war 2), the sound mixing didn't sound right and animations were wooden. The game picked up once you got to the main characters but the tanker does not make for nice gameplay. Hallway after hallway, similar rooms and textures made it feel quiet repetitive.

    Now this is a game to be played multiple times but after my first playthrough I didn't feel the urge to. The story is pretty lackluster and once you understand what's going on the sense of danger disappears. I still had fun for a few hours but can not recommended this at full price.    … Expand

    I love interactive films. Man of Medan is not a bad game. And everyone who likes this genre should definitely play it.
    But for some reason the plot didn't catch me. And only one of the characters I liked. All the others were indifferent to me.
    Still, Until Dawn I liked more.

    An interesting game, to pass once with a friend-the most that. I like that there are many different endings, but sometimes the inexplicability of actions is unnerving. This is rare. Overall, I really liked it!

    If you enjoy bad horror movies on netflix, you might enjoy this one.

    For hardcore/horror gamers.. don't. Awful jumpscares, extremely annoying characters and absolutely absurd writing for the dialogues. The game is 4 hours long and feels like 2 of those should be scraped off, bad pacing, bad story. It's just decent graphics and thats it.

    Man of Medan se queda ahí a mediocamino entre estar bien y estar flojo. Uno de los principales problemas es la historia, que en ciertos sentidos es muy genérica y, sobretodo, está llena de personajes que son muy meh, de modo que es difícil que te importen lo suficiente como para crear un fuerte vínculo emocional con ellos y su supervivencia. La cámara estática entiendo que se usa para buscar encuadres atractivos, pero unida a unos controles cuestionables, acaba haciendo la experiencia bastante más incómoda de lo necesario. Y en cuanto al miedo, el juego usa y abusa las imágenes rápidas y grotescas para buscar el susto fácil sin realmente trabajar bien la tensión dramática, de modo que a mi no me afectó lo más mínimo.

    Gráficamente el juego cumple con unos cuantos peros: algunas animaciones faciales son un poco raras y, por dónde ocurre la historia, el entorno es visualmente muy cansado por repetitivo. El sonido está bastante bien, no hay quejas ahí. Y no encontré demasiados bugs, pero si tiene algunos pese a los años desde que ha salido.

    El resultado de todo es que Man of Medan no es un juego terrible, pero tampoco es uno bueno. Un 4,5.    … Expand

    GAMEPLAY:
    Quello che dovrebbe essere il punto di forza diventa l'aspetto peggiore del gioco.
    Io l'ho giocato con altri miei 4 amici, utilizzando la tastiera del mio PC, e l'idea di poter giocare a turni è molto interessante. Quello che invece è pessimo è il movimento dei personaggi (troppo lento, macchinoso e impreciso), così come le inquadrature delle scene (simile ai primi Resident Evil) che vogliono ricreare uno stile cinematografico ma finiscono per essere fastidiose.
    Inoltre i quick time events sono adatti allo stile di gioco, però a volte sono inadatti alla situazione e quindi difficilissimi da fare e prevedere.

    STORIA:
    Storia interessante ma andando avanti sembra che i personaggi non apprendano le cose che noi giocatori gli facciamo trovare nel livello, rimanendo molto tempo a cercare di capire di qualcosa che noi abbiamo già appreso (soprattutto leggendo lettere e quaderni sparsi per la mappa).
    Bella invece l'idea dei quadri sparsi per il gioco che rivelano delle possibili situazioni future.

    The story is not climatic at all, some decisions dont matter at all and it results in the same outcome, there are bassically 2 endings. Even on the boat theres no point in fighting olson, even if u win or lose that encounter same outcome. It would ve been cool if u could ve gone on the ship and they came to found u after restrained them or something on the ship.     Insincere characters that you don't believe! In one of the endings, one of the characters did not even react in any way to the bloody death of her boyfriend. Many bugs and bad face animations.

    Man of Medan is the first entry in what should be a series of horror games based on urban legends in the Dark Pictures Anthology. It combines all the classic elements from choice and consequence adventures and puts them into an uneasy environment, where nobody of the main characters is safe. It has flaws in the terms of camera and exploration features, but it can be a very solid beginning to something new in the horror gaming genre.
