Entertaining and varied, but the gameplay is only mediocre and full of minor flaws.

Diverse arcade racer with an impressively huge game world, but the enormous potential isn't used enough.

Open world is sadly underutilized: there’s no need to explore it to find new races, and unlike original The Crew, mini-activities like slalom are few and far between. [Issue#232, p.54]

The Crew 2 is an ambitious title, and when judged solely by what was expected of it—a car racing game—it’s superb. Unfortunately, judged by the sum of its parts, The Crew 2 tries to do too much at once, and could have put less time into designing its many different types of vehicles and more time into AI, optimization, and world-building.

The game spends so much time trying to accommodate everything that it can’t get one specific thing perfectly right. But, at the same time, it’s this vehicle-swapping feature that also helps The Crew 2 to stand out and it creates some genuinely fun moments, even if you’re just free roaming.

The Crew 2, the open-world racing game offers too many options and often fails to finish its innovative ideas. Still, it is a fantastic game where players with a little patience can have fun for a long time.

A lot of quantity, a little less quality for the second episode of Ubisoft's racing social network.
  8. The Crew 2 is one of the most ambitious racing game we have ever seen. With gorgeous views and different kind of vehicles, it strikes you really fast. But problems with car physics and lack of PvP, it feels like an unfinished product.

The Crew 2 is an impressively large game with a lot to do. Cars, planes and boats, travelling the USA is fun. The problem is that almost everything else ends up feeling the same and, eventually, boring.

Despite all the cool features that are touted, it the end is just a soulless racing game that doesn’t excel at anything but also doesn’t really fail in any significant way.

It looked promising, but The Crew 2 falls wide of the mark, in infuriating fashion. It tries to grab people's attention with its technically impressive map, its instant vehicle-switching, and with even flashier motors, yet all of this is just a deluded sales pitch for a seriously lacking package. It doesn't address any of the fundamental flaws of the original, such as repetitive races and too many bland open spaces.

Other than brief moments, no part of The Crew 2 is captivating enough, including the rubberband-based gameplay, the events themselves, and the overall setup of the open world.

An impressively huge, occasionally beautiful map doesn’t make up for mediocre driving and a lack of multiplayer options.

A great driving game, a poor racing game. Has some technical issues involving controller support and their idea of multiplayer is somewhat unusual for this genre. A game I would happily spend more time with, but can’t recommend highly in its current state.

The Crew 2 fails at providing the heart of what what a racing game should offer, specifically a fun and rewarding driving experience. All the icing and fancy decoration in the world won’t make a crappy cake into a great cake. The Crew 2 can take a pack of exotic cars racing on a mountain road and produce results that are about as exciting as a round of solitaire.

  1. Next week, once the servers are busy, I’ll return and find out whether this is a game that desperately needs the internet it insists upon to shine. I’ll be delighted if that’s the case. Right now, this is an awful lot of not very much. [Single-player review]

It was amazing and fun and exciting, graphics were alright, cars felt like cars. Now this comes out and lets compare to the first part:
    - Graphics: same if not worse.
    - Sound: worse and not barely linked to whats happening to the vehicle in game (Im talking gear switches etc)
    - Physics: cars/planes/boats they all feel the same - like soap on watery surface. Completely cardboard.
    - Map : smaller than the original, replaying same races over and over again? Really?!

All in all it doesn't feel like a work on mistakes from the first game ( cuz lets face it: not perfect) instead we got some horrible feeling arcade race/flight/boat thing. I tell you this, try it and then try NFS Most Wanted for example, or even better underground 2. We can all agree neither of theese games are sims, both arcade, but I can bet you will have same or even better experience with old NFS than this. And lets not compare it to any other arcade racing game that is NOT released yet.

So it's simple to do whatever you want & the matches are mostly too easy, but this does not only have advantages: It's like a carnival without deeper sense and plausible background, just to put on a show for artificial followers. Doing this the fun factor doesn't come up through the locomotion physics either: above all roadcontact is missing never mind finetuning for driving, water does not affect boats and wind does not exist for airplanes. Obviously lacks a plenty of experience with racingcompetitions in every kind of these. Also the sounds do not create a special atmosphere, besides there's only a glorified USA-area. Does the future of videogames look like this? That soulless game is the Jack of all trades as master of none, whose advertising promises more than it is! In fact for everything only 24GB of storage is required instead of the announced 55. All in all my aroused expectation for such a high-priced title is kinda disappointed, therefor here are at least 2 out of 10 points (always same smooth intro & clearly arranged car selection are given, smart will be exited via hidden radio menu anyway microtransactions cannot be dangerous here). Since i'm bored of Microsofts mainstream Forzas, ultimately i prefer the spirit of eArts matured NfS-Ghostseries currently Payback. Full Review »
