This DLC was worth the wait. Been playing since the flash version and to see it grow over the years has been a pleasure. With the final DLC it's never been better. At least 2 more end bosses ( that are fun and add to the story perfectly), 34 characters, new and amended items and trinkets, challenges and the long awaiting and extremely fun Co-op makes this DLC well worth the money.

I don't know if there are any more secrets to find as I have only just scratched the surface but it wouldn't surprise me.

Great work Ed and the team!

Wonderful addition to one of my favourite games. New levels, monsters and bosses are tough but I don't mind, it puts more challange to the gameplay. Repentance should be an example how DLC for the game should look. Expand

This is the definitive version of Isaac. The well-crafted ending gives the whole story more depth. Good new tunes as well.

And its a game that ACTUALLY touches on topics relevant to real life today.

Play it if you can take a little beating. Getting 100% is hard as it should be. The game cant just be broken every 5th run and it takes some amount of skill and luck (like original roguelikes always required) to 100% it.
Its also fun if you dont try hard and are more of a casual player. Its well worth the price and you always have something new to discover every run (if you pay attention).

    10/10!!

I really love Isaac, I do. But I'm kinda mixed when it comes to this DLC.
Recently they've added far too many unfair, run-ending rooms with nothing but spikes and turrets (some of them both shielded and in motion) inside. I may simply be unlucky, but I am encountering them far too frequently as of late, and, to be honest, I believe that such rooms should not exist in this game to begin

I may simply be unlucky, but I am encountering them far too frequently as of late, and, to be honest, I believe that such rooms should not exist in this game to begin with. I have nothing against the general increase in difficulty that Repentance offers, far from it. Most of the changes that this DLC introduces are actually quite appropriate, and they make the overall experience more balanced and gratifying. I even agree with some of the most controversial nerfs, and I appreciate the balance changes to items that previously were not worth taking at all. But I think that these new maze-like room layouts with lots of spikes and turrets are a step too far. Some of my recent runs (even the powerful ones) ended prematurely because of these rooms. It's a very cheap way of artificially increasing the game's difficulty to a point in which it no longer feels fun. Some of the balancing decisions are also questionable - like the recent removal of the usefulness of the donation machine. I guess I love this DLC and hate it at the same time.

A dlc that has made the game much harder, along with adding a huge amount of content. Beforehand hard mode caused minimal changes, and now changes a large amount of aspects to increase the difficulty.
It can be a rough transition but the improved spritework, new mechanics and the incredibly high quality of the new content is well worth it.

Okay, this is not only a review for the game but a response to all of the ones.
Yes the game is harder, yes they took away some broken combos, yes characters are needed. Guy's, its a rougelite. It's gonna be hard. I personally like the difficulty jump. It's like I'm playing a new game.
With that outta the way, this is worth waiting 3 years for. Dozens of items, bosses, and new endings?

I consider myself to be an Isaac super fan. I've been playing since day 1 that Rebirth released, and have put in approximately 1700 hrs into the game across PC, PS4 and Vita. I've achieved 1000000% (full completion) on PS4 and continue to play regularly. I was very excited about this expansion and stayed up to play it the night it came out. Now 10 days later I've put 40hrs into the game and I've only won 2 out of about 50 runs. To put this into perspective on Afterbirth+ my win percentage was approximately 80%, and now it's dropped to 4%. This is an unreasonable difficulty increase. The enemies shoot faster and further, many items have been nerfed, and the item pool is further diluted with bad items. I like the design of the new bosses, there are many cool additions, and the amount of content is staggering, but none of this matters if the spirit and fun of the game has been drained. I no longer enjoy playing my favorite game of all time.
Maybe you're now expected to reroll your run until you get a powerful item, but that's not how I play. I loved the randomness, and overcoming adversity, and if I lost, it felt like I just got a string of bad luck. Now, the game feels like it wants you to fail and it's being malicious. I'm going to go back to playing Afterbirth+ and in no way would I recommend getting this expansion.

It's everything you liked about Binding of Isaac Afterbirth+, but made worse!

I love a lot of the additions to the enemy/boss pool and the graphical improvements are nice. Everything else inside this expansion makes the game worse.

Afterbirth+ is the definitive version of Isaac. Repentance is the Robocop 3 of this series - let's all pretend it didn't exist.

The game really ruined the Binding of Isaac. All items that used to be strong were nerfed into the ground, and all terrible items have been only slightly buffed.

In conclusion, all items suck now and you just die. You'll be lucky if you get more than 5DMG in a run.

Altough it is kind of a mean move to block behind the paywall an ending that for the majority is considered the "true ending" TBOI doesn't have a "structural" story so it is up to one's interpretation what is real and what's not. At last my only gripe with the DLC is changing some core enemies and making them harder for no reason. A lot of people would say to simply get better at the game but I nonetheless consider that these changes were pointless especially with a lot of major items getting their power turned down and therefore also making the game harder. This is a flaw in design in my opinion but it doesn't change that much in terms of DLC itself. Expand

Not only did they absolutely make a banger soundtrack, they made a whole new path to the normal route you take every single time! The Binding of Isaac: Repentance is an incredible achievement that goes beyond just being a DLC expansion. This is another load of thread connecting yet more pieces to the potential of the already brilliant base game. With all of these plates spinning, it's impossible to know how well a run is going to go at any given time, but it remains incredibly fun trying to figure that out.

Repentance doesn't add anything particularly game-altering to the formula; it's not going to win you over if you don't like this style of roguelike. What it does do, however, is add huge amounts of content to the already massive base game (and other DLCS) that is The Binding of Isaac. On top of that, there's some even more hardcore endgame content, including a series of new, game-breaking characters to unlock. Not bad for $15.
