Tharsis is a tough puzzle to crack, but beating it makes it rewarding. Ignore the RNG whiners, the game is full of strategy and every game is winnable if the games mechanics are fully utilized. I'm looking forward to the addition of missions. Great game. Expand

Brilliant little dice game, very atmospheric and addictive. I love the way every statistic is important and the way the gameplay forces you to make tough decisions based on random events. I beat the game on hard mode after 10 hours / 30 plays. After that easy mode is a doddle, but it's still fun to finesse and improve your leaderboard score. Best game I've played in 2016, after wading through plenty of AAA games that mainly do the same thing as older games but have prettier graphics. Expand

Hilarious game, very well made. Excellent intuitive interface and amusing animations. The game was a bit difficult the way it was originally presented, but the introduction has been improved, and more difficulty settings have been added, so that it has become more accessible.

The majority of the negative reviews on this game are complaints that it is way too random, and not skill based. And yet, Dragondave17 on YouTube has now beaten the game 30 times in a row, completely discrediting that notion.

This is a difficult and challenging game about luck mitigation and optimization. If it appeals to you but you are concerned about the luck factor mentioned in

This is a difficult and challenging game about luck mitigation and optimization. If it appeals to you but you are concerned about the luck factor mentioned in many of the reviews, ignore the cries of the sheeple and give it a shot - it is a great, fast-playing online board game with a rewarding learning curve. The game scratches a similar itch as FTL, and the complaints about it's difficulty remind of when it first came out.

I would give it an 8/10, but it gets two extra to help counter the ignorance of the masses.

This is a game for people that can think deeply and strategize. Tharsis is 100% skill based. The people that say it's just randomness could not further from the truth. Events do drop randomly, but you can get yourself out of every situation.

I do that a few issues with the game - but am still giving it a 10.

The music drums on as modules explode, fires start, asteroids punch holes in the ship, and the crew develop space madness. Fantastic soundtrack, and overall a great turn based strategy game. Most people (based on steam reviews) take about 2 to 5 games before they can get their first win in the game, but once you do, it feels rewarding. Personally, I don't much care for most strategy games, but this one is an exception.

One thing I've found is that, depending on the random events, you will usually find a different resource (health, food, hull, stress/sanity) is the critical issue, so each playthrough requires a different strategy, unlike some strategy games where once you figure out the pattern, there is only a single thing to optimize. There are also a variety of crew with different skills (unlocked after completing different tasks) which adds to the replayability. Overall, a great strategy game.

A tiny drop of satisfaction provided by a happy ending does not compensate for the frustration brought by earlier failures. [03/2016, p.61]

Tharsis is a well constructed dice-game with an interesting theme. Too bad that luck has too much a say in the player’s destiny; this can inflict frustration and anger which, in my book, are the opposite of entertainment.
