Syberia: The World Before is a very mixed bag. With wonderful characters, terrific sights, and a beautiful story, there’s a lot to recommend about it. Unfortunately, that story relies far too much on happenstance, and the more you think about it, the less it makes sense, but if you can suspend your disbelief and just go with it, you’ll find a game that will please long term fans of the series and create some new fans as well.

Syberia: The World Before continues the adventures of Kate Walker with a very delicate storytelling technique. It has a lot of clockpunk-styled mechanical puzzles, with a wide variety of patterns in puzzle solving with great fun. However, its storyline and characterization are hardly satisfactory, and the dialogues and CGs are not set up with any "Skip" options, making the gaming tempo seem very draggy. The fixed camera that does not allow the player to rotate freely causes many problems that affect the experience. The poor localization is even more deadly for this text-dependent storyline-based game.

The World Before is more of an interactive story than an adventure game. The gameplay was a letdown, but the story and the world were quite OK. You have to decide yourself what's more important for you.

After the third installment, I had my doubts about Syberia: The World Before, but Microids manages to return to the essence of the franchise with a beautiful adventure game. [Recommended]

Thank you to every passionate developer, designer, artist, musicians and particularly to Benoît Sokal for this masterpiece of adventure games. I will definitely play the other games of the series. Even as a non fan of Point and Click... I was shocked by how good it was ♥️

As a fan of escape games, i LOVED the puzzles, all logical, challenging, fair and fun
