    Overall - 5.5/10

It's the same **** repeated over and over again, i bought this for 1$ and that is its real worth tbh. It's just the old main game with added some new maps, weapons and 'hacks'. It gets really boring real fast.

    Enjoyment - 4/10

Much of what made Superhot so enjoyable was that every level was carefully, individually crafted. Because of this, playing a level of Superhot in 2016 felt like solving a puzzle, as opposed to mindlessly gunning down enemies. In MCD, levels are procedurally generated, so you will inevitably play the same maps over and over again. There is now an unknown kill quota required to complete each level, along with the player having multiple lives.

The entire game design of Superhot was built on the foundation of a one-hit kill system. As a result, MCD feels like an interesting game built on the incorrect foundation—the game falls apart once the novelty of the new features is lost. MCD feels less like puzzle solving and more like slow-motion survival. It only takes one or two hours for MCD to feel boring and repetitive.

Additionally, without spoiling anything, the ending was, to me, completely unacceptable.

Felt a little bit like more of the same. Still an enjoyable time and worth taking a look, if you have played the first and move straight to this you might find it a little repetitive.

I was a huge fan of the original Superhot so when I got Mind Control Delete free as a gift I was looking forward to it. The game play itself is very similar to Superhot and is still a lot of fun. The game play itself is very similar to Superhot and is still a lot of fun. It is one of the only games that can have little story to it that I still enjoy playing through. Sadly outside of the game play Mind Control Delete has found several ways to annoy me to the point that I was happy to be done with the game. Even on it’s last few minutes it was finding ways to not respect my time and introduce ways to sap any enjoyment I had left. The first thing the game did that I loathed was introduce enemies that couldn’t be killed. They spawn randomly, sometimes not at all, and when they do all you can do is try to avoid them. I have always hated enemies I had to run from and in this genre it is inexcusable. The worst part was that they get introduced after you get granted certain powers and later in the game they stop appearing after you are forced to give the powers back. The kicker is that I never used any of these powers, if I had the option to give them back right away and save myself some anger I would have. Later in the game on the very last level you are also forced to give up. You can try to keep battling through the levels but you are forced to give up everything including the ability to move and look around. You are meant to give up until you are past it. Then you are forced to press the “E” button over and over for about 1-2 minutes to manually trigger the “super hot” voice that is usually automatic. There is no reason to force the player to do this but you are forced regardless. After that you have to manually move the cursor up along the code to spell out messages. I should add that even hitting Escape didn’t bring up the main menu, I had to Alt-F4 in order to close the game at this point as I had enough of this ridiculous nonsense. I have heard that the game even forced people to sit through a 2 and a half hour wait unless you wanted to edit a file to skip it. I don’t know whose idea that all of this garbage was but they should be fired as they ruined what could have been a good game. The game play itself was fun, they had to go out of their way to ruin it. The gun play was still top notch and the variety of weapons was good. The red and white graphics style was still pleasing to the eye. The level design was good albeit the levels got repetitive fast as they are overused a lot.

I played Mind Control Delete on Linux. It never crashed on me and I didn’t notice any bugs or glitches. There was a v-sync toggle and one quality setting. The game saved after each node but each one was pretty quick so not having a manual save wasn’t always a huge issue although during the longer nodes it would have been nice. The performance was great and I noticed no lag at all.

Overall I was disappointed and left angry and bitter with this game. It did a disservice to Superhot and I can’t recommend it even at the price of free. It is one of the only times I can say that having good game play doesn’t save a game from being bad and that just feels weird to say. I finished the campaign in 13 hours and 6 minutes.

[eurogamer]"The arbitrary amount [of locked-in time for the end credits] we shipped with was eight hours, a perfect time to sleep on the game you just finished we thought," co-director Marcin Surma said.

"You can leave it running overnight and have a fresh mind to see the results in the morning. We actually considered the eight hours quite lenient - we started with 24 hours but that felt a bit too restrictive: you'd end the same time of day you ended the game yesterday. And that's no fun!" [/eurogamer]

The idea that I'll finish the game then go to bed for 8 hours to "sleep on it" - while it's still running on my PC or console - is ridiculous. I can "sleep on it" without it being on. That shows the Developers' attitude: they want to force you to reflect on their game.

Whether you're environmentally aware or not (and we all kinda should be), I don't want my PC on for 8 hours or 2.5 hours running this game while I sleep. During the day, I have work to do.

Is it too clever for its own good? No. It's a poorly thought-out ending to an otherwise disappointingly repetitive game.

It's interesting (in a way) for attempting to encourage the sort of critique you'd expect to see in the Arts and turn it into a critique of computer games - but it does it in the most infuriating way. This is the Tracy Emin Bed equivalent of computer game art. If you're going to do something different, try to bring people along with you.

If the story was clearer, perhaps the ending would make more sense, setting some context to allow gamers to consider and/or understand it. But the core game lacks so much story - it's just wave after wave of enemies - that you can only guess as to why the ending is the way it is.

Those waves of enemies take place in one of 32 randomly generated spaces. You'll play through the same maps time and time again - and the number of maps you need to complete in each 'node' increases as you play. You'll play the same map several times in later nodes. Complete the maps without getting hit twice and you can advance to the next node.

    Repeat.

[eurogamer]"After all, we don't want to punish the players, we want players to feel both the significance of what they themselves achieved during the ending, and to have a moment to be part of this experience more as performing along than just playing," Surma continued.

"One of my favourite things is seeing people chime in on Discord saying, 'hey guys I'm doing it let's go!' and posting updates on how much time they have left, using that time to talk about their experience of the game and to just have a breather and have it all sink in." [/eurogamer]

Gamers are capable of feeling the significance of game experiences without being forced into it.

I'd argue that you're not taking "a breather" from the game while you're watching an in-game clock ticking down second by second through 2.5 hours of flickering CRT graphics.

[eurogamer]"It's much more powerful for someone to filter the game through the lenses of their own experiences," Skorupka said. [/eurogamer]

This is the sort of Arts garbage language that appears to mean a lot but means absolutely nothing. Obviously our individual experiences change how we look at things. Children know this. And again: I can appreciate how different games make me see the world without being forced to look at a ticking timer for 2.5 hours.

The fact that co-director Marcin Surma said the 8 hour figure was "arbitrary" and that they originally considered 24 hours shows how poorly thought out this idea was. There was no rationale for 24 hours, or any rationale for reducing that by two thirds to 8 hours. No rationale for dropping it again to 2.5 hours.

    Pointless.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. I freaking loved it.

The ending is controversial, because ppl think you'll get more stuff if you go through the painful hour (maybe) of wandering through an ASCII landscape, followed by another 8 hr real time wait to "restore your files". You barely get anything new. A few hard levels, and the "PURE" core which is a vanilla game mode to try on those really hard levels.

I think there's a joke in the 8 hr wait (now 2.5 hrs), that they want you to use a cheat tool to hack the "hacking" game you've been playing. Some ppl feel weird about doing that.

Also, the un-killable mini-bosses are supposed to be an obstacle. I'm not sure how that's confusing to anyone. After you get the power to deflect all bullets at lightning speed and hotswap multiple times, how would you like the game to get harder?

The satisfying slow motion gun play is here and feel satisfying as ever but when you look past that there is no way the game improves on the first one and instead feels like a step back in all the ways that mattered. The game features about 15 different levels that you cycle through over and over again but none of them are as interesting as the ones in the original. There is no story, the game doesn't find new ways to toy with its premise and is just a bunch of sort of bland superhot levels that have to repeated long past the point of monotony. every-once in a while text will appear telling you thats what youre doing but there is no actual meta commentary; just an admission of its short comings that don't excuse those short comings. the combat is still enjoyable but I don't feel like this followup had a shred of the substance or intelligent game design it needed to be really worth my time. This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. So overall I would give this game a 7.5 / 10

It was a great game overall and added a lot to the SUPERHOT experience.
I got it for free since I owned the original SUPERHOT on Steam so that was nice.

Btw Spoiler Alert so if you don't want the game to be spoiled stop reading.

My problems was mainly with the ending and the price. Even though I got it for free, I think $25.00 is a bit overpriced for how short the game is. Also the ending was not that good. At one point you have to wait 2.5 (or 8) hours to "Recover Data" that you deleted when you gave up your cores and hacks. After that, there was not many more exciting things after that. You just get to replay the game again and you have the "Pure.core" which gives you no hacks or cores or anything like that.

I would still replay this game in the future because it was still a very fun game.

I would still recommend this game to anyone but maybe if you don't want to spend $25 then wait for it to be on sale.

Worse is that you considered eight hours acceptable. Or 24. And never considered console releases would auto shutdown and corrupt saves. How utterly disconnected from reality must you be? How self absorbed does one have to be when clumsy metatextual **** matters more than remembering the needs of your customers and their systems? So, much as I was looking forward to playing the game, I cannot accept or support such a stupid move. Yes, I could skip the time in game, edit the save file, whatever. But frankly, for the disdain and contempt you show for your customers time, you don't deserve my custom, my time or my money.

I will go and enjoy a game that at least respects that customers have lives outside their games. Maybe you should remember that next time rather than making your customers suffer an utterly pretentious and poorly thought out fart that you thought would be deep.

I know that its mainly my fault (although it baffles me that they would leave the ability to go through all this again, why would they even leave it in there for somebody to stumble into), but at this point Iv’e left a negative review, and I cant recommend SHMCD to any friends (which disappoints me because OG Superhot on Endless Mode was always really fun to play when we would visit each other’s houses). It doesn’t add enough new things (you‘ve got a few new things to throw, a force pull, and extremely repetitive gameplay), and is just wasting my time. Even buying the game for $15 on discount feels like too much.

SUPERHOT is a weird beast. Initially, a proof-of-concept turned into a full-blown game; SUPERHOT has players running and gunning through a virtual environment where time only moves when you do. It was a huge hit, and the quirky and quite creepy story only helped catapult it’s popularity even higher.

Now the game’s sequel, SUPERHOT: MIND CONTROL DELETE, has been released and it’s more of the game. Much more. Taking place directly after the ending of the first game you’re trust into a bit of a loop before you’re greeted with more game. There’s even more flexability with a new rogue-like aspect to levels, an ASCII map to traverse, and new abilities in the form of .core and .hack files. These will either grant you with powers to use in a stage or will hack things like your healther meter, bullet count, or even how fast you can move.

Is more better? In some cases, it is. The core and hack features add a lot of impressive variety to the basics laid out in the first game. The story remains just as creepy and somewhat confusing as the first, with tidbits of information found here and there as you uncover new areas of the map. SUPERHOT is just as fun as you remember it.

My one complaint with the game is that the random levels get a bit tedious after a while. You’re always fighting in the same few level layouts over and over again. Each level is relatively small, too. It’s not a game killer, but a bit more diversity would have been excellent.

On the plus side, the procedural nature of the levels can make them a bit harder than the original. You can’t always see where enemies are spawning, and you often can get shot in the back without even knowing someone was behind you. That’s where having a few hearts worth of health comes in handy.

SUPERHOT: MIND CONTROL DELETE is so much more than it’s predecessor, and yet still a bit less in some ways. Fans of the original will be satisfied by the frantic energy and action in the game, but series newbies will be better off playing the first game.

The joyous carnage of Superhot remains solid throughout Mind Control Delete, despite the fact that the road you take intentionally tries to delay and derail you. If you’ve been waiting for more of this distinct gunplay, there are at least eight hours of it here, including infinite and endless modes. VR felt like the perfect evolution of the series when it launched, but this new entry lacks an identity beyond just bringing more Superhot to the fans that crave it.
