    SGS EX is a game that deserves more attention. Fun, engaging and replayable, it's a great experience for those looking for some ol' school shoot 'em up.

    As the EX might signify, the game is an update to last year’s Super Galaxy Squadron, which is included in the purchase. In addition, an available Endless mode means that, while you pay power through the story in an hour or so, there’s plenty of action still waiting to be found.

    A colourful vertical bullet hell that coasts along until finale where the difficulty spikes abruptly. Some decent ideas can be found here, but overall an average experience.

    This is the ultimate version of that alien game on the Atari thanks to its vast and gigantic open world.

    I have not played many shoot em ups - in fact i only played 2 ... Sky Force Anniversary .. and Sine Mora. While Sky Force Anniversary is all about getting stage achievements, Sine Mora is more classically about points (or completion)

    What they have in common however is that they are both significantly slower paced and much better designed than Super Galaxy Squadron EX. Not only the visual style and technical finesse - but also the pure game-play is problematic with Super Galaxy. It is hard to spot bullets in what can only be described as a mess on screen. The screen partition - which is already less than half a normal 5:4 screen - is riddled with the player ships own shots, myriads of credits that flow towards the ship, destructible enemy bullets and regular bullets. In all this cramped space it is very hard to make out dangers - and more often than not one gets hit (as a casual player).
    I am sure a pro-player becomes sensitive enough to the enemy bullets to avoid them - but for a casual player - this game is not too much fun.

    With that said - i am fairly sure that the target player of this game is probably not the "casual" player anyway... .    … Full Review »
