Highly nostalgic and fantastic strategy game. Remastered graphics aren't amazing but for gameplay and mechanics, it's great.

I appreciate the game runs smoothly with no problems now.
And fixing some engine issues (turn rates, unit limit - although that still seems to be a problem in some custom games with lots, lots of units - some attacks like Valkyrie's don't work properly).
It's cool the graphics are not so dated and pixelated, yet I think they could do more. Apart from that, it's still the best SC in

I am not reviewing sc1, that game was great. This score is for the remastered edition.

Ladder and profiles stats don't work on battlement EU.
HD graphics are nice, but sc1 had much darker color pallet. The new version is too shiny for me.
People are finding bugs and performance issues.
Blizzard could have done much better job with this one.

Nostalgia for the sake of it.
Blizzard has not improved upon the game as many of the remasters have done recently. Still the rally, queue. selection, controlling annoyance of two decades past are there.
What is the point of this for a strategy game player of 2017?
Only meant for esports event in South Korea. Pointless for rest of the world and players.

I'm pretty disappointed to say the least. While it might have "HD" graphics, they are very underwhelming HD graphics. StarCraft II IMO has legitimate HD graphics. While it might support 4K and be in HD, they are not up to par for modern day 4K HD visuals. Blizzard could have gone the extra mile and really done a nice job with skin overlays that stepped up the visuals game for a remastered version. Try switching between legacy graphics and HD graphics quickly to see the comparison by tapping F5 to see what I mean. Look specifically at the units health bars, and the edges of each unit, while zoomed in.

Launch was a mess, with a whole herd of bugs. Some have already been ironed out with a patch update shortly after launch. I wasn't able to play the intros, for example, which was resolved. My game still doesn't save the HD settings, so sometimes it launches in legacy mode, and other times in HD mode.

The only reason I give this 5 stars is because I can't bring myself to rate StarCraft any lower than. It deserves that much respect.

There will be feature creep in time to iron out some of the feature issues I'm sure, but at the core, this is just an older version of SC2. Which is like putting your smartphone on the shelf to try a rotary that just got a fresh coat of paint. It's still old tech you've already consumed before moving onto bigger and better things.

I don't have any problems with them keeping the original mechanics, bugs (or features depending whom you talk to). However, it is not an excuse to keep the 1998 poor online netcode. It's extremely laggy on 8 players map and you always have to use extra high latency setting. Some bugs that should really be addressed on a 2D 2017 game are still there like the constant crashing to desktop on extremely large fights or units that simply stop attacking like Valkyrie because there are too many sprites on the map. Also, custom Multiplayer maps do take a long time to download despite being like 10 mbps in size.

Ultimately, it does seem like this remastered version is an attempt to revive its eSport scene as the focus on graphics and observer feature will surely improve viewing experience. However, it's a bit of letdown for average or casual players who expect a little bit more polish from this.

This is just a review for its remastered version. The original broodwar game was a legend at its era.

The pinnacle of RTS games. The infinitely high skill ceiling helps cement this game as one of the greatest competitive games of all time, if not THE greatest. Competitive Starcraft is still played in Korea, where it's much more popular even than it's younger sibling Starcraft 2. This game isn't perfect, but I have a feeling it's as close as we'll ever get.

It is here to bring up all the surrounding parts, matchmaking, battle.net integration, wide screen support, etc., up to speed without changing the gameplay at all. And it does that, perfectly. The game is exactly as it was almost twenty years ago now in terms of gameplay, but it works on my new Windows 10 machine on my 16:9 monitor after starting it up from the Battle.net/Blizzard Launcher.

For those that want to experience modern RTS, StarCraft II is better than ever. It has a vibrant online community and isn't going anywhere. This remaster is not for them. It is for those that want to experience nostalgia, or for those that want to scratch the competitive itch that only BW ever could, for those that want to see Flash/Jaedong/Bisu/Stork continue their competitive careers and the game of their choice to continue being supported.

And for those that want both (e.g. me), both games are now on the same launcher, so that's pretty damn great.

There is an odd lack of quality in the aesthetics of units and buildings, it does not reflect the usual quality you expect from blizzard by far.

Even though this should not be a demanding game in terms of performance there are constant performance spikes and choppy game play. Mixed with the issue above this makes for an unpleasant experience.

The scaling of the units on screen is too large. I understand that if the screen res was higher, units and buildings smaller and therefore more of the map visible on screen then this affect game play. Unfortunately the way it is units just seem massive.

It's not worth your money, this pack changes the original Starcraft into what feels like a seriously inferior RTS from the 90s. One you would find from a PC mag's demo disk and play out of politeness.

Its appeal is entirely its relation to the original version.

It lets you switch from HD to SD with the press of a button at any point. The matchmaking works well with a good MMR ranking system, with more recent netcode improvements it makes sure matches have a good latency even though it is global matchmaking (the gateway you pick does not matter for matchmaking). The only downside right now is a lack of a 2v2 ladder, but you can still play team games in customs just like you always have. This is how a classic should be remastered, sadly WC3 did not get the same treatment, hopefully they are able to fix it. Expand
