This game is the biggest MMO of all time. You gotta admit that. We've waited such a long time and thank to god they made a brilliant game. They're making updates-versions to keep game fresh every time. So what are you waiting for ? :D

The lack of effort shone through and overshadowed immersion into the world. I had more fun with STO. I no longer subscribe to either. Expand

Heck I love action games but this game had too much fighting in it and not enough areas to chat with players or do other activities. The other activities are honestly a joke. Space combat and crafting must have be low priority in production....along with combat and the games visuals/ animation. The only thing I enjoyed was the stories of the classes. Just a big disappointing experience overall. Expand

Amazing game, I really like Bioware's ability to pull you into a really well written story. The combat and animations are really great as well. Which is really nice so that you don't have to feel you are doing the exact same thing over and over again. This has always been one thing that MMOs have failed on. This game makes recent MMOs look silly, it has more depth and shear content than any game from launch. Once you hit max level and finish out your storyline there are planet and alignment story lines to do as well. But it's way more fun to make a new character and go through another story line. This is the first MMO since Asheron's Call that has made me want to play more than 3 months. Most others I usually quit out of boredom and come back to check them out from time to time. This one is very solid and has lots of things to keep you interested. It's equally accessible solo or in a group which is great for those with a busy life and don't have much time to play a lot. The only time you really need a group is for the heroic content or when trying to do hard mode. Will play this for many years to come as long as it stays this enjoyable. Expand

I'll keep this short. Bioware did a great job, yet not perfect. The whole point of an mmorpg is to build on the game as people play it. Do I think after a slew of new updates this can be perfect? Yes.

There are some great storylines, but than a lot of bad ones. They need to expand on the bad or consolidate them down. A big problem, beside hackers, for mmorpgs is that of size. Some fans

A big problem, beside hackers, for mmorpgs is that of size. Some fans want things to be endless (lots of stories, etc.), others like myself want quality over quantity. I believe only small things can be great, and that trying to make things collosally good is almost impossible, though it's not, Bioware has a lot of work ahead to pull off such a rare feet.

    I'm excited for the future.

This is definitely my favorite computer game by far. The story classes i 've played so far have been very enthralling and fun; and I couldn't ask for a better combat system in an mmo. Oh and if you have a computer that can handle The Old Republic on the highest setting then I strongly recommend doing so.

..and the gods smiled on me for it was awesome. Then Kotor 2 came out..which wasn't nearly as good..
But then years ago i heard a rumor about KOTOR becoming an MMO. I was upset. I didn't want them turning one of my favorite games into a game that all of a sudden now tons of people were going to play who really didnt give a **** nor appreciate the Star Wars universe the way that true fans do. Most of my life people made fun of me for loving Star Wars and being a nerd..and now people play it..anyway so the MMO came out..i was skeptical at first and i purchased it..which brings the first bad point-
You have to pay for the subscription when you purchase the game..so a 60 dollar game automatically becomes a 75 dollar game..you can't install it unless you agree to those terms and set up a subscription. that was my first beef..but i fought through it.
I install the game, cut scenes were pretty bad ass i must say, got me into it..i used to play star wars galaxies and loved it, and they got rid of galaxies FOR THIS...i love being a smuggler..so natrually that was my first guy..i wanted to be a half ass han solo, exploring the galaxy, trying to beat the infamous Kessell Run. I'll tell you this much tho..if you want to be a smuggler?? don't expect to do any smuggling what so ever. The second bad point? the graphics..its pretty much DA2. Same sound effects, same animations save for the blasters. Same faces. And Dragon Age 2 compared to the first was just a botched abortion. Game play is the same as any other MMO..While my subsciption is still active, i have not played the game in almost 2 weeks. I am tired of it. i am tired of the repetitive grinding, i am tired of being on a planet with a lotta players because if they are doing the same quest as me, sometimes i will fight through all the **** to get to the objective, then some asshat will come out of stealth, and do it before me, then i have to wait..but that is a common issue with MMOS i guess..what some people have said on here is correct..its a single player game with mmo elements...a star wars wow if you will
I hate to say this, but i think that EA ruins everything it touches. When Bioware sold out to ea, i ranted and raved and said watch **** bioware is going to go the way of the buffalo. and i seriously think it is going to be. when dragon age 3 comes out i will probly not buy it..i refuse to buy mass effect 3 because of origin. i am going off on a tear...If you have played star wars galaxies, you know that you got your own ship when you started out..which is awesome..you could get into space combat, deliver cargo, you could spend hours flying anywhere in the galaxy..you could also have someone make a new ship for you with a brand new chasis design, upgrade your ship, paint your ship..it was awesome..
space combat here? sure you can upgrade your ship half ass..but the space combat is on rails and linear, the missions are just variations of the ones you did at earlier levels. it was a very big dissapointment for me because i was expecting something more along the lines of tie fighter..for 60 bucks? i thought it would..
anyway, the goods to it? the envirornments are pretty cool. Some of the ablities. the voice actings decent, the combat is pretty fluid..
cons? i have a decent rig and sometimes the lag is atrocious. sometimes when i go to get quest it will take me about 5 minutes for the npc to give it to me due to buffering..another con being a smuggler, killing a high level boss and recieving a light saber with dark side affilation which i cannot use at all..
i hate to say this but i do believe i will be cancelling my subscription..

Essentially what you have is a average MMO with a good story. However, when you factor the rumored budget the game had and the fact that it's Star Wars, average doesn't cut it. My advice (if you just HAVE to have Star Wars): Play the class you like for the first month, then cancel and montior it for patches.

ToR brings a better experience for me and what I like to do in an MMO. The gathering system is great. I've never met anyone who logged into my WoW guild and said, "I can't wait to go mining for 2 hours!" I do feel that the crafting in the game needs improvement. A buddy of mine who played Galaxies for 5+ years mentioned the crafting system there and it sounds a whole lot better than what is in ToR currently. The classes that I have played have enough variety that I see potential as class tweaks are made. I was surprised that my favorite class to play would turn out to be the Bounty Hunter. I'm sure most folks jump into a Star Wars game lunging for a lightsaber, as I did. As I dabbled in my alt-itis, I found there was much more interaction in the combat. Going from ranged to mele and managing heat (the class resource) seems much more interactive then just spamming a rotation. I'm not trying to gulp the hatorade, just my preference. I don't mind the quick travel to planets, but I feel like the game is lacking without some free space flight. PvP queues are much less painful with everyone in the same pool, but your level (abilities available) and gear balance it nicely. I'm hoping for more diverse PvP modes in the future. The questing is the best I've ever seen in an MMO. This is literally building your character's persona with every decision you make. Leveling different classes are not cloned experiences like in WoW. Currently, the game lacks that amazing endgame content that's supposed to keep players hooked. I really think this game has incredible potential, but they need to work fast to make these improvements. With new MMOs constantly on the horizon, you gotta strike while the iron is hot. Even with the game in its current state, I enjoy it a heck of a lot more than WoW. That's why, for now, I'm rating it an 8/10. I'll amend this review as this game continues to evolve. Here's hoping history doesn't repeat itself with another fail patch! Expand

The Old Republic gives you the exact opposite. In fact, it gives you something worse than the George Lucas Prequels.

First off: Somehow the clone trooper armor is in the republic, despite the fact that it's a long time before the Clone Wars.

Second: Star Wars was not fit to be an MMO. Galaxies proved that.

Third: The quests are boring and time consuming. I only got one of my ten characters past the starting world

Forth: I don't know if this applies to all, but when I paid sixty dollars for the game, it didn't come with a subscription. I paid a total of a hundred dollars to start up an MMO and keep it for four months... A waste.

Fifth: As many have stated previously, it has the exact same gameplay as almost any other MMO. Like many games, it is good, but quickly becomes repetitive, boring, and useless. It's not worth the sixty bucks.

My recommendation is trust NO User/Customer Ratings/Reviews (good or bad) and use only Reputable Critics that have a long standing in the gaming industry. Yes, they could be paid to lie too, but they have better accountability and can be more easily prosecuted if they lie. >SWTOR was made to be different than other MMORPGs by making story-line one of the highlights of the game. Voice acting goes a very long way in making a person feel a story is real, or cheesy. For me, one who likes a good story, the voice acting is top notch in SWTOR compared to other games and made me feel a part of the Star Wars world. >YOU feel more apart of the Star Wars world due to the story, but the story is not etched in stone. The story is based on choices you make in conversations you have with a multitude of characters you encounter. This allows you to become the character you envision and gives a stronger connection to that character's story. >COMPANIONS in SWTOR actually can help you complete quests by fighting by your side to help kill the enemies! They also allow for different story lines to emerge for your character. You form a relationship (which can be friendly or mean, romantic or hated) with your companion too, thus adding more attachment to the world you are in. You can order your companions to do work for you (create items or find materials/items on their own small missions) when you are doing other quests without them. Each character type has their own set of 5 unique companions. >OTHER games in the genre that I have played have given me a lot of fun, but over time they started getting away from an adult atmosphere and consistently increasing content that was goofy, cutesy, off the wall, catering to younger gamers, and specific cultural groups. However, SWTOR does not give me any of that immature and out of place feel. Even though the Star Wars franchise has a multitude of young fans, this game plays on a young adult to adult level story line and the people I usually run across are mature adults. >WHEN you create a character you choose which server you want to play on. The list of servers you choose from tell you a general population of players on that server. There are a lot of servers and the population will read either Light, Standard, or Heavy. CHOOSE a HEAVY server! I highly recommend Heavy (or at least Standard) because even if you like to be a loner, being on a Heavy server will not bother you once you learn how to ignore people through the settings options; and loners may find out that they actually like the multi-player aspect, which then being on a heavy server would be important since you currently cannot transfer characters to other servers. >I HAVE 9 characters, with my highest level character being level 40 (current max. is level 50). I will be playing at least a few more months before all my characters are maxed out on level and then will be able to experience more of the high end content (or lack of that I have read about). The game has already made major additions to the game since I have been playing, recently adding the legacy feature which is for higher level characters. As with all MMORPGs, updates and expansions are happening on a regular basis with new fun content added regularly. So, meanwhile I am enjoying the game and feel the money I have spent has been more than worthwhile. My recommendation is to try all the 8 different classes and enjoy each of their unique story lines to get the most out of the game. >GRAPHICS are not top notch. I love great visual productions in games, t.v., and movies, and SWTOR does not go to extremes to get the most high end visual effects possible in the current video game market. I found this is common in MMORPGs and it may be because of the high amount of people playing the game online. However, the content and story lines of the game totally make up for my love of peak performance graphics. Graphics on SWTOR I would rate about 3.5 stars out of 5 stars. >IF you really want to know all the features the game has, go to the SWTOR website to see all the features the game offers. >IN CONCLUSION, this game was in development for years before its release (Dec/2011) and it shows. The depth in all areas is well thought out and well done. The Star Wars franchise is huge and they have used their many resources to create a game that is very much polished and high quality. This game stands apart from other MMORPGs because of the emphasis on story which allows a gamer to feel a stronger connection to their character, the Star Wars universe, and the game itself. Regardless of negative points and/or reviews, this game IS a High Quality game due to the depth of the game and the emphasis of story that has been well developed. Expand

Playing as a Sith Maruader I didn't feel like a powerful wielder of the darke side of the Force, but rather as someone who stumbled upon a couple of lightsabers in a dark alley. Without being able to do Flashpoints due to a shoddy grouping system there's little in the way of decent gear to put you on par with the enemies you'll encounter while questing. After around level 25 the fun really started to drop off as it became more and more difficult to even kill a simple mob. The graphics aren't bad, considering it is an MMO designed to be run on multiple system configurations, but the facial expressions seem a little wooden. The lack of any really non human looking races is a big disappointment, especially taking into consideration that Star Wars has a very diverse alien gallery to choose from. Only the Twi'leks aren't different colored humans, Wookiees need not apply. Overall the game would be ten times better if it had came out about five to six years ago when WoW hadn't done everything an MMO could do, and better too. It's a 5/10 not because it's a bad game but because it's not a great game. Expand

I immensely enjoyed my trip from 1-50 on my Republic Commando, then hit a wall with the complete disconnect between the single player experience and what passed for the endgame. Why didn't my character's story tie into an end game raid? Or why did it not even tie into the flashpoints along the way? They should have felt like organic parts of the leveling experience, not glorified coop missions that were utterly disconnected from the rest of the storyline. The best I can say is that SWTOR is a single player game with online functionality and on-disc DLC you rent for $15 a month. I'd have kept my sub for a few months if I hadn't paid $60 up front, but I wasn't about to keep renting that content when I wasn't getting MMO functionality out of it.

I'd have given it a 7, still, because of how much I enjoyed that leveling experience, but the lack of so many crucial current-gen MMO features made me kick it down a notch, and also reinforces my belief that it was designed as a single player game first, so such features just weren't even considered.

However, it's like BioWare took much of what made WoW great but left a lot of the nuances that allowed the MMO giant to streamline group play and get people into special dungeons/instances (called Flashpoints in TOR). The voice acting is a nice touch and cutscenes are a welcomed element, giving more attention to things like the story that you play through depending on your class chosen. Then there's the light side/dark side choices you can make, which may lend a lot of replayability to TOR. But still, that's if you get hooked enough to continue on. After leveling a 50 and a couple alternative classes AND doing all the latest & greatest in Operations (raids) and Warzones (battlegrounds/PvP) often, TOR has steadily become less and less glamorous. The point that took me years to hit with World of Warcraft has only taken me roughly 4 months to hit in TOR. And while it's been a good investment, I feel this game will only be a flash in the pan for the mass majority. I'd be more interested to play Guild Wars 2, TERA, or the upcoming Elder Scrolls Online at this point to experience the MMO genre. Cookie cutter MMO's are a dime a dozen. Whats sad is that SWTOR had all the hype and fan base any starting MMO would die for. The game has now been out for about 6 months, and already servers are dying. The question is why....

    1. Graphics - This games graphics are just aweful. Starting from the character menu where you option are 10 ugly faces, scars, ugly tattoos, and whether you want to be human, blue human, green human, or red human. In game it gets no better. Its 2012 and as a gamer, my expectations are set high for a reason. I dont expect to play skyrim in space around 2000 people, but I dont expect starwars legos 2004.

    2. Dynamics of Gameplay - None of the classes bring something to the table that someone else cant just fill or that you cant just do without. Everyone has stuns and knock downs and for this reason you dont really NEED anyone. You are left with the same old holy trinity of tanks, healers, and dps for PVE. As far as PVP goes, well 50 people on either side with stuns and knockdowns make for a sad and unenjoyable session.

    3. Questing - Honestly, the only difference in SWTORs questing vs. most MMO's is that instead of reading you watch a video. Thats really the only difference. You still have the same old grab 2 of these, jump over there, hit that guy. Nothing really different from anyone else.

Overall this is an average game for an average player. I really feel that its quality doesn't give the reason to pay $15 a month for it. Huge changes would have to be made in order for this game to survive 2 years. Also, it would have to do what almost no other MMO has ever done. Die and ressurect.

    Good luck and happy hunting!

EA did announce that they are not happy with how the game turned out and they are not making enough money from it. It is also expected that about 1/3 of the subscribers will cancel by May 2013 unless they magically improve the game.

On a positive note, Bioware does send out quick patches almost weekly. They are also improving the game quickly with new content and features. Blizzard's World of Warcraft still dominates the MMO market and Bioware is trying to match it by putting the same features into SWTOR.

One example is that WOW has the Looking For Group feature for queuing into their dungeons/instances which helps greatly so that you dont have to sit in trade chat and spam "LFM blah blah blah." Bioware is introducing this in 1.3. This will help out greatly getting into Flashpoints.

Overall - its just ok. If Bioware put more time into the game and not so much its cinematics, could've been better. Even the Beta was nothing special and all the positive remarks came from players only playing the first few levels. If you play at least till level 5 you will notice a pattern in the quests and expect lots of walking and going in circles.

There is a lot of - turn in 1 quest, walk all the way to get another to find out you need to go back to do something else, it does get REALLY ANNOYING.

That's because I was excited for Star Wars MMO and the game launched with much success and made a great first impression fuelled by amazing, fully voice-overed questing experience which made even "kill 10 boars" quests interesting and adding emotional touch to them. It also seemed that the game had all the ingredients for success: proven developer, big budget, legendary IP (setting) and plenty of time for development. The developers were not pioneering and could have learned from the experience of others. Only they didn't. The money was spent on marketing, voice-acting production and (I guess) IP rights. The proven developer turned out to have absolutely no experience in MMO. The learning from mistakes of others turned to copying from World of Warcraft in a state it was when the development of SWTOR started 5 or so years ago - it seems like they stopped in time at that moment and didn't move forward, sometimes going backwards (archaic talent system, no swimming, no real world PvP due to design decisions - just to name a few examples). Since the money was not spent primarily on the technical development itself Bioware adapted a "do it yourself", cheap, licensed engine to create the game which to this day results in lags and low fps even on more modern computers due to lack of optimization. That already resulted in a fiasco of removal of world PvP zone from the game which simply was not working for majority of people. As its stands today most embarrassing bugs have been fixed, the difficulty of PvE endgame content is improving, rated Warzones are coming and things start to look better. There is a potential for positive changes - as a Star Wars fan and passionate computer gamer in my 30s I especially look forward to space combat (I won't even start on the current one) which is on the devs' table. It's clear that critics were in love with the "Star Wars" portion of this game long before it hit the shelves, and a number of reviews seem to give it a free pass for that reason.

Character creation has the same limits most MMOs have. If you had any hopes of a game that would transcend the usual Tank/Healer/DPS paradigm, you'll quickly be disappointed. For some people, hitting the same "rotation" over and over with reliable roles for everyone that are not to be deviated from is fun. For me, it feels like factory work. And Star Wars leaves you feeling its painful redundancy at every step. This is a matter of taste, but for all the hype surrounding this game, you'd think they could do better than use the same MMO model everyone else feels compelled to use.

There's little or no variety as to how you can equip your character. For instance some classes of Jedi are dual-wield, some single, other double-bladed. This isn't a far cry from how other MMOs do business, but in the world of Star Wars, it feels as though you should have more of a choice. Again, the cookie-cutter approach may appeal to most people, but it's a sad reflection on the possibilities of the franchise. The ease with which you can blow through most of the missions solo makes for a fairly dull environment. The servers are poorly populated - clearly Bioware overestimated the cache Star Wars might have had. It's genuinely difficult to group at times. I don't mind solo, and sadly, it seems the clear alternative for Bioware to address the issue will be to increase the number of group-specific levels.

Space combat is an utter joke. In you space mission, you have only the ship you are assigned at one point in the game and are led along a flight path during which you shoot as much as you can without getting blown up. It's nothing but a sad arcade mini-game, not an opportunity for players to buy new ships, fly around at will or actually get a sense of being in space. Star Wars Galaxies, for all its flaws, at least recognized that this was a crucial component.

I quit after about 3 weeks and don't think I'll look back. If you're into staid, generic MMOs that don't challenge you too much, then you might like this. It's hard for me to imagine what kind of major overhauls they'd end up doing to make thins game worth my time, but I doubt they will. Bioware is a changed company in recent years, and rather than giving us an exciting new KOTOR offering, we're left with a lifeless ripoff with great sound effects. Disappointing.

On the down side, space battle, can really get some improving (hey Bioware, remember Tie Fighter ??) and as a neutral character you may miss some good equipment. I went world to world every time enjoying the content, racing against my guild mates to level 50, excited to be among the first to master the end game content. Then I hit 50 and hit the great big emptiness. Yes there are dailies and there are raids. Thats it, the pvp is a joke. Suppose for a moment, you push yourself through the boring grind, the over sided power of the Sith or worse than that the over sided power of Battlemaster Armor with the expertise on it, what are you rewarded with? I'll tell you, on my Sent it was a horrific looking set of armor. It looked like a 5 year old made a cross of anime and iron man armor. Really, its not hard to design a bad ass looking Knights of the Old Republic armor, heres the equation Robes+Storm Trooper Armor = Utterly Bad Ass Jedi Armor. Who doesn't think the armor Obi Won and Anikan rock in the Clone Wars cartoon is awesome looking? I know, only some many variations and such but come on, you can't work with that really? Even if you want something different, what they put out was not it. The craziest part is the armor right before level cap, at like 45-50 was pretty sweet looking... This is not to mention the numerous bugs and glitches. I think that something as simple as the armor designs looking like junk shows just how lazy they got at the end of designing the game. To be honest, for the past couple weeks I have been telling myself, I gotta log on this week, I gotta get on this week. Yesterday I asked myself why I have to log on and renewed my Rift account. Hopefully Bioware will pull its head out of its arse and address the problems quick but sadly I doubt it. Heres a drink to another lost Star Wars MMO... Expand

I think Bioware is doing a great job with the updates and patches. They solved so many bugs already and in 4 months they also gave us a lot of new features and content. Oh..and I love the surprise event they gave us this week. No one knew about it, but suddenly a rakghoul plague started in Tatooine. There is a rich variety of classes, many of which are challenging to play to their potential, and each of the archetypes has it's own individual class story involving many tens of hours of playtime.

This game shines as a beacon of what is possible in an MMO, and with a little more work on Bioware's part will grow to be the best MMO of all time. The efforts that Bioware have put into the post launch era bode well for the future. They are continuing to roll out new content possibly faster than the bulk of the playerbase can cope with. Of course, no pace of release would satisfy the more vocal detractors.

The balance was broken so much in 1.2 that I kept losing in PvP for hours (playing Republic healer).
I'm part of a guild with more than 100 members and since a few weeks if we get more than 3 people online at the same time it's a celebration, and since 1.2 I'm often alone.
Quoting the Ancient Aliens narrator, "where did they go?". Now I know.

Healers (I play one) are useless since 1.2, both for themselves and the other players, even with a massive amount of endurance and with a full heal skill tree.
What do experienced players say to the healers now? "If you see one of these enemy classes, RUN". Are you SERIOUS? Playing PvP to RUN? Is that how BioWare sees a balanced game?

I wanted to love this game but BioWare disgusted me from playing.
As it is, I wouldn't want to touch it again even if it was Free to Play.
I hope it will get better in the future, but in the meantime I'll just stop playing AND paying.
Did you already feel like you wasted your time playing for months hoping it would get better? I did.

I just hope they'll release a patch to let us play in single-player mode with more bots, and with pre-1.2 skill trees, as the game seems to have been designed for this.

Please do not be fooled by those that rate this game a perfect ten, I imagine EA/BW are having their developers up the rating. Until EA/BW management, game designers, and developers start to listen, I foresee this game becoming free two within two/three months from now. There is several major issues in play here, 1) Game designers do not listen to the community, they sure make a lot promises, such as "it's now our highest priority"; "We'll have this in an update coming soon"; etc. Well it's been four months since the release and the game has only had two major updates. The first was Patch 1.1 in which EA/BW lost close to 300,000 players, then next is the current Patch 1.2 ( which if not fixed soon, will be the deciding factor to when this game goes Free-to-Play. 2) Population issues, during prime-time I did a few tests, logged into several different servers to look at different populations on each server and each of the planets, there was some planets with a mere 7-10 players and others with 30-40 players during prime time except for Fatman, the only decently sized server out of the other 60-80 servers. Server merges are needed, but instead of addressing the issue, EA/BW continues to ignore the community. If you like playing a MMO solo the entire time, not finding any groups to do some of the more "tedious & time consuming" instances, well this game might be for you. 3) Story - It's hit or miss, you either like it, or you do not. After 30, the grind is apparent, the stories lose focus and the position of each quest is put as far as they can on the map that has several objectives. Anything to waste player time I suppose is one of their game models, the Dark side responses get quite old, several repeats of the same four or five responses. For spending close to 300 million dollars on the game, I was expecting quite bit more variety in the choices. Several issues were raised up by key players, even more detail topics such as the Combat Medic/Healer changes by Ruku and several other top healers, but tend to go completely ignored by the one of the lead game designer GZ who literally makes changes without providing valid reasons for the change. I am done listening to their promises for content to be delivered and then reluctantly determining the key feature it is not ready the day of the patch after advertising the updates the weeks beforehand to get players to re-subscribe to the game. Another key feature missing is the looking for group tool, EA/BW stance is against having players use a tool in order find a group for an instance/flashpoint with no basis as to why this is. This game started out casually based, but with the recent patch, that is no longer the case, in order to stand a chance in the game's 8v8 warzones (yes only 8v8, could be same faction vs. same faction, population issues again here) you are now expected to grind for months straight to get Battle Master Gear, and then War Hero gear on top of that. So lets say, you have three alts, each alt would have grind out a full set of Battle gear in order to use that gear to get the next set, they definitely gated this - it is a requirement because the armor has expertise on it, similar to resilience in WoW, Radiance in Lotro, or Keys/Flagging up in Ever Quest. The new legacy system introduced in 1.2 is also quite costly for credits, plan on playing for eight hours a day in order to save up for one or two of the cosmetic/droid/buff, legacies they introduced. Crafting is also terribly designed, having a companion run missions for materials takes the fun out of crafting. There is nothing too great here, many other games are far superior in this area. There is nothing real of great value worth mentioning, everything is bland and generic, no heroic battles, it's all stationary with little to no strategy. No day night cycles, no underwater, constant lag through warzones/player vs. environment content, 1.2 also introduced audio glitches in each of the warzones, I do not see how their Quality Assurance department releases content that is all buggy. Quests still cannot be abandoned or reset, instances and raids are bugged out still since launch, it makes really no sense how this content still gets developed when all these other issues are continuously ignored.

PLEASE... Please read the official forums to get a consensus of whether or not to purchase this game, EA/BW is all about making promises and not delivering on those, do not be fooled into buying this game without careful review. SWTOR forums (Sort by replies/date and that should give you good idea of how they treat their player base). The game was 6 yrs development, 300+ million budget, final score 5.5, but do your research, do not fall victim to a review done by a critic how has no experience as to what the game has to offer past the level 20.

Bear in mind however, this is an MMO and as such there are concessions made graphically compared to dedicated single player games. There are a good number of planets to visit, some quite large. PVP is fun although limited to 3 scenarios(called warzones, one of which allows for intra-faction combat) and a small amount of world PvP (which always suffers when population distributions are unbalanced) due to the young age of the game.
It also has PvE dungeons and raids (flash points and operations respectively) although again, the number is currently small.

As with most MMO's the amount of endgame content increases with each major patch, however to call it's release sparse is misguided. The amount of endgame content is small compared only to established long term MMO's, specifically World of Warcraft.

The game shines in it's storylines, the voice acting makes questing quite enjoyable and most quests consist of going to places and finding things or people rather than "kill X of Y" which mostly appears in bonus quests, with occasional exceptions. The class storylines are suberb, a real evolution of the genre. As it is possible to level through pvp and a simple, starfox-esque space shooter mini-game there is a great replayability to the game as it is possible skip entire planets non-class quest lines and do them on a seperate alt. Completionists and explorers are also rewarded with datacrons in hard to reach locations providing permanent (small) stat-boosts provided they can be found.

The game is very star wars, players travel between planets interacting with large varieties of characters, they have space ships and build up a crew of loyal 'companions' who can be used to provide combat support in a similar way to the 'pets' of other games, perform crafting activities and even be sent away to sell all your vendor thrash when the inventory is getting full.

There is, of course, room for improvement and ample room for expansion. The space shooter is very simple and could do with more missions, and additional end-game and group content is, as always, high on the list of player demands. The main turn off about the game is the official forums, which remind me all too much of the Mos Eisley Cantina and is infested with people who by turns criticise the game for being either too much or not enough like world of warcraft. Occasionally both at the same time.

I think this game would be great for people who like star wars or like MMO's, however if you're tired of the tropes of the genre(cooldown management, the Tank,Healer DPS triumvirate etc.) you may find it lacking in innovation. Hardcore MMO players who like to blast through content without experiencing it may also find it a bit on the easy side.

This is the first MMO ive ever played where I paid attention to the plot and understood what was going on, i usually skip all the texts and just rush to max level, but with swtor i find myself taking my time and listening to every word spoken. The games combat system is the standard MMO formula but with Auto-attack removed and smooth animations for all your abilities making fights visually beautiful and very intense. The crafting system is a joy to level up, you dont actually have to do ANY gathering or crafting to max out your crafting profession, that is all handled by your crew of companions, and not only is it mindlessly simple to level up but you get items that are genuinely useful ( you WILL use the items you make, and NOT just max level items like WOW). For example my Synthweaver (Makes Force user armor) has provided about 70% of the armor for myself and a friend i am leveling with, i can honestly say ive never used a single item from crafting in wow other than engineering bombs and trinkets. This game is great to play with friends but its totally playable start to finish solo, the game provides you with several companions throughout the game that range from Tanks to healers and even Ranged or melee dps so even healers can efficiently level up, In fact this is the first games that healers have an upper hand when leveling, With my healer im able to solo around 2 or 3 elites of equal level at a time with my tank companion, while my DPS (/w healer comp) can only take one at a time (two with CC). It should also be noted almost every class has a spec for tanking and/or healing as well as a DPS spec. Unfortunately the warning that SWTOR gives before entering a pvp server is far from the truth. It states you will be in constant battles between players, I was in 4 pvp fights before level cap outside the warzone, and 1 of those was because we got people to tell us where anyone was. The game is far to controlled, has no end game worth mentioning, the only thing that is even remotely different and worthwhile in the game is the main story line of each class, which will send you playing warzone over and over again trying to level up just so you can get to the next part without dealing with side missions you've done plenty times before. This is a single player game smashed into an mmo which then goes by mmo rules, and if you've ever played an mmo you know what I'm talking about. Less than stellar NPC (standing around waiting for you to come kill them), same skill to button type combat. In my opinion, an mmo isn't worth playing if it has no pvp and the end game wasn't well thought out. Whats the point in maxing your level if there are neither of these. How strange that my opinion of this once-great company could change so abruptly. Star Wars: The Old Republic is one of several major disappointments I have weathered over the recent years. Not only is it shoddy from a technical standpoint, but it fails both mechanically and creatively. Let me be clear: I am not talking about the bugs. All MMO's release with bugs. For me, bugs are an inevitable and forgivable aspect of the genre. What is really astonishingly bad is that, for all its production value, the voice-acted missions (from beginning to end) are copy-paste sob stories with the same fetch-and-kill parameters. Invariably, you will spend hours at each quest hub listening to the same briefings you heard at the previous one. If you are like me, however, you start smashing spacebar with no fear of the consequences (because there aren't any). Oh, sure, each class gets their own set of marginally interesting missions, but... guess what? They make up about 10% of your journey from levels 1 to 50. The other 90% is filled with the aforementioned tedium. There is no hot-fix or patch (at least in the foreseeable future) that can change this sad fact. Can it get any worse? Why, yes, it can! BioWare has put deliberate emphasis on replayability, implementing the Legacy system, which will give you bonuses to experience and customization as you bring new characters to max level! So if the nigh nonexistent end-game content isn't enough, relax! You can suffer through all the hum-drum solo content again and again and again until all your character slots are full! Hooraaay! While I realize that grind-factor is a difficult element to work around, there are at least aspects of the game that can alleviate some of the drudgery... right? Wrong. Not yet, anyway. At best, PVP is chaotic and limited. World PVP is nonexistent, thanks to the all the zones being sharded into instances. Space combat is a culmination of rinse-and-repeat Starfox-esque side-quests, which MIGHT be fun, except there is ZERO variety. Oh! And if you're playing SW:TOR for the social experience, forget about it. That aspect of the game consists of minimal customization and an immovable chat window that looks like tiny blue vomit. In essence, there's no way to make your character feel like he/she is yours. You're playing on the same rail as everyone else, and you're expected to do it more than once. Granted, this might all change someday, as MMOs are wont to do. The problem is, SW:TOR already feels dated and it will take the better part of two years to get it up to snuff. I expect, by then, the competition will have evolved. Bottom line: BioWare has a LOT of work to do if they hope to pass this game off as "adequate". Then again, I suppose it doesn't matter, so long as they make a profit off of their disenfranchised fans Expand

I was more than happy to fork out the cash for the game and can envision playing this for months on end. I've seen endless pages of criticism about SWTOR, but come on, it's a great game, it lures in newbs (like myself) and provides them with a fascinating look at Star Wars in a whole new way. I loved the old single player games like Knights of the Old Republic, so I guess it makes sense that I'll love this as well. For the seasoned MMO'ers there will always be something to b*tch and moan about... fickle bunch that they are. Stop feeling so damn entitled people and be thankful for what you have.

Love this game, love the action, love the storytelling and love the interaction with fellow gamers and fellow Star Wars fans. Good job, Bioware.

The Devs give the excuse that everything is technologically complex and whatever the player-base want the game to have, they claim the are working on it with no ETA. Rift is an example of how Devs really can make new content with both high frequency and polish, so Bioware really need to just get up of their asses and work harder. The games main feature, legacy, the thing it has instead of all the staple MMO features the game is lacking is not released yet and even then is very underwhelming based on hints of future patches. Via the legacy system and the fact that the classes have stories, the game encourages you to play as many characters as possible, but there is only one leveling path so it is very boring doing the same quests over and over again. Bioware have made it very evident that they really just do not know how to run an MMO. The world PVP area was such a failure they abandoned it completely, and PVP in general is crap. The class stories are very good but the side quest stories are crap and you will end up skipping all the voice acting from about half way through the game onward. Overall the game has just got stuck in a position where it is months behind what is expected of it with no way to recover, and at the immensely slow rate new updates are released it will take well over a year until this game is actually good enough to be worth paying a subscription for, if it even survives that long and remains P2P. Not a very bad mmo, but certainly not good enough for this franchise and this price. Very disappointing. Most of the time, you play alone, strange for a mmo, so it's more like a rpg? But usually i love rpg, so why i think it's not good? Because from my point of view it's not enough immersive, graphics are poor, there is really nothing original/innovative in this thing.

If on the other hand you are lookign for a game that has actually invested in deep, engaging and compelling multiplayer experiences? Look elsewhere. The dev team has clearly missed the mark. A perfect example of this is treating PvP (something they have devoted entire servers too) as a pure afterthought, by their own admission, that it 'wouldn't be popular'... In a two faction game about warring empires in the star wars IP? Not Popular? The class to class balance is non-existent and the gear and craft system was clearly never thought about past level 45 out of 50. The efforts to address both of thse are being mishandled while they try to sell their 'Legacy' system as a major feature, which is pure fluff and promotes more single player mechanics than team ones.

There was a lot of quality put into this game for look, feel and atmosphere. Sadly not even a fraction of it into the game itself.

Some great voices and good acting - in the class storylines. I have played 4 classes and one was excellent, 2 very good and one pretty poor. I liked bounty hunter best and republic trooper least - also did jedi knight and sith sorcerer. But the non-storyline quests are mundane 'kill 20 greater slimes' quests - grind. And when they make me run all over and back again - in a world with instant holo-communicators - that's just inexcusable. The class balancing, options beyond the classic healer, tank, ranged dps, melee dps , integration between the solo training content and the later group/endgame content is bad. Integration of the crew ship is bad, integration of space combat is bad. PVP is pretty much all separate - different gear, different skill trees - that's bad. PVP and raiding players all start to look identical - cause there's basically one look for your class with some minor color differentiation. The custom armor is nice - before endgame - but I haven't seen one whole set of armor - at best there is a matching chest, pants, hat. Reverse engineering is disappointing - both in the limitations on what can be reversed and the sometimes extreme number of items to improve a schematic. Getting materials is also a disappointment with some materials nearly impossible to find (e.g. electrum) and the harvesting crew skills having such limited missions. And then of course most trades are useless at endgame - anyone want a level 49 purple armor or weapon when the raid and pvp vendors give out level 51, 56, 58 stuff? 3 for system requirements - The lag for having 20 people around is bad - too bad for the system requirements. Likewise the graphics are no better than a 4 year old EQ2 - except they take 3x the resources. 8 for great class stories and actors - definitely some 10's but not all of them. 3 for grindy - mundane non-storyline quests - an average 5 minus some for un-neccessary run-arounds that don't fit in a world with instant-comms. 3 for PVP - 7 for fun instanced PVP - but subtract a bunch for making me play huttball over and over and over and not fixing it so some classes can't ruin that game by flying across the court without running or passing the ball. 2 for open-world PVP - basically Ilum. 3 for way over-hyping the marketing and under-preparing the support team. 3 for innovation. Nothing new here that was done well. A lot of important stuff missing. Subtract for messing things up for explorers. Oh and for that VIP lounge pass I paid a million for to get essentially - nothing. And it seems a crime to make us put so much into companions only to make them useless in the endgame. Overuse of british accents for the imperials and too much gibberish from the many alien languages on the republic side - both annoying by level 20. Fun for 3 months - about the levelling of 3 toons - maybe 5 months for some people. Then the questing gets too grindy and you start to look at endgame instead. Only to find population problems in addition to the usuall 'shortage of non-fun raid roles' problems. A really good MMORPG is fun for years. I give it a 4 overall. Well below the bar set by existing competing games. Lacking in anything new. Under-performing relative to the machine it needs. But still quite fun - for a little while. Several good performances and some nice artwork. Expand

Running through miles and miles of sewers shooting the same creatures and people over and over and over and over is not a good time. Doing the same thing in a building and then reaching a "boss" character that you can't kill and then have to realize you need to play the whole quest again because you forgot to get a weapon that was hidden under rock is tedious, not fun. Then when I saw the price to buy the game ($59 at the time of writing this), I realized I wouldn't spend that much to play this game, but the world is worth exploring a little bit. But you have to participate in every single little bit of fighting -- by smashing all the buttons -- and gets so repetitive that it really only goes so far for me. Then I saw it costs $20 for a limited amount of time to play per month! That's when I stopped playing altogether. It's not worth spending $59 one time, certainly not an additional $240 to play it for a year. Mass Effect meets MMO meets Star Wars. And while this sounds like it almost HAS to be a 10, it's not. Not by a long shot.

The MMO part is old. There is simply nothing new, everything has been here before in MMO land. It's the same point-and-click interface that we've known since the days of Everquest and that was already stale in WoW. The only "new" part is that the boring stuff (like selling craploot) is dumped on your sidekick. Yes, every class is a pet class and everyone got a sidekick. Which sounds great, hey, while I go and play the game, I send the drone to do some boring menial work. Nu-uh. Imagine Warlock without blue blob. That's how efficient you are without your sidekick. So, in a nutshell, what it means is that everyone is a pet class. And the whole "genuinely new concept" ends right there.

Then, the Mass Effect part. A metric ton of dialogues, a storyline with a detail level that is unparalleled in the MMO world... which is nice until you do some group quest for the n-th time and still have some guy in your group that doesn't skip the cutscenes that you can by that time recite verbatim because you have heard them n-1 times. And who doesn't know that choosing the "wrong" answer leads to even more and even longer dialogues.

Then there's that idea, just like in Mass Effect, that you may forge your character's path with his answers to dialogues, join the "light" or "dark" side, make friends or enemies... which is really exciting until level 10 when you get your first sidekick and notice that your answers affect your sidekick's opinion about you. And his opinion in turn affects his efficiency. And the difficulty of the game is geared to having a more or less "loyal" sidekick. So can the idea to "choose your own path", you better choose the path your sidekicks want you to. The idea that you can choose your character's "light or dark" path falls flat on the face here.

Oh, to be fair, you can "buy" their love with gifts. If you can afford them. I foresee a nice source of income for goldsellers in the days to come.

So what's left when you strip the new game smell is a standard MMO without too much that makes it stick out from the crowd, neither negatively or positively. It's a solid MMO, mostly balanced (for PvE at least), with mostly working quests and a lack of serious endgame content, just as you would expect from an MMO that's fresh on the market. If you like Star Wars or if you liked the story elements of Mass Effect and like MMOs, you should give it a spin, if you're just looking for a new and fresh MMO with new elements that aren't staler than a week old loaf of bread, look elsewhere.

The amount of races is also lacking. We're supposed to be in the Star Wars universe but everyone pretty much looks the same. Questing is where SWTOR shines the most, simply because of the voice overs & cutscenes. Having said that, you'll still find yourself going over to "kill X amount & collect Y amount" & it can get abit tendious after a while. This is the first MMO i have played where it felt like i was playing a single player game. Everything is on rails & it's very linear , the game practically holds your hand. The planets are rather terrible, there wasn't many i enjoyed at all, most of them feel "lifeless" & "bland" . For some strange reason, there is not enough ambient music/ enviormental sound in the game whilst you're questing & exploring the planets. Most of the time you will here your footsteps & the noise coming from your speeder. Majority of the enemies stand in a pack of 3 or 4 waiting to be killled. You can only explore so much because there are exhaustion zones, if you conintue to go through them you will die. Everytime you want to go to a new planet you're met with loading screens & copy/paste space stations. All of this leaves the player detatched from the world they're playing in. The combat isn't really exciting. It does the job, but it's nothing we haven't seen before. Ability delay still exists even though it was mentioned in BETA & after the game was released. Although it's not the worse combat i have experienced, it is not the best. The best way to describe it would be "clunky". The companion system is poor. Everyone gets their own healer, dps & tank companion, leading to people not needing others to help them. Most of the 2-man "heroics" & some of the 4-man i could solo myself simply because of my companion. I did not need another player to help me, nor did they need me. Everyone is soloing most of the things on their own. Companions craft for you. You send them on "missions" to collect or craft items, leaving the player feel like they're doing nothing. I like to craft my own things, i like to see my character craft, instead my companions do all the work.

I could go on & on. PvP is nothing but a stun-fest, open world is non-existent, my first open world PvP encounter was at level 42. The endgame PvP planet is a mess & Bioware has admitted it. End game PvE is terribly easy.

Most of what SWTOR has to offer is average, leading to an average MMO & a boring game. The only thing worth note is the cutscenes & voiceovers.

This is a design oversight in my eye. II found that overall the story was very generic, and the Empire side was to evil for evils sake and the republic felt very vanilla, in a goody two shoes way. Technically, the game looks good and has a good level of polish, but I did run into stability issues and some setting and the game has lowish frame rates on a high-end system. I also noticed that you don't really have to interact with other players and found that as with most MMOs the other players usually make the experience worse so this was a plus or a minus depending on your point of view. One interesting mechanic I loved was the space combat, It was a good idea that needs refinement. I would like to see it evolve into a full "flight sim" implementation as opposed to the current scripted track implementation. Overall if you are tired of fantasy MMOs and want something with a different flavor give this a shot, just be prepared because to me it felt like wow with lightsabers.

If you're expecting something totally new and revolutionary this isn't your game. What it is, is the typical tried and true MMO template with a Star Wars twist to it. It's a great way to burn some time and an easy replacement for other games you may be playing, if you're into that kind of thing. Expand

Star Wars: The Old Republic is a major let down. The greatly hyped voice acting, cut-scenes, and story driven grind are not what they are cracked up to be, and the game fails to be as revolutionary as it originally claimed pre-release. First, let me start with character creation. You can choose one of two sides: Republic or Imperial. From here, you have to choose 1 of 4 classes: Jedi Knight, Jedi Consular, Smuggler and Trooper on the Republic side, and Sith Warrior, Sith Inquisitor, Imperial Agent, and Bounty Hunter on the Sith side. As you could imagine, every class has a similar counterpart on its opposing faction. From there, you pick a gender, race (which depends on your class choice), and then you can customize your facial features and body type. Customization is very limited: you must choose from a set of predetermined faces, scars, hair styles, etc. The races themselves are basically humans, with odd skin tones or maybe a few spikes/tentacles. You can't play a wookiee or really anything that isn't too different from Human (they even have a race called "Cyborg" which IS human but with various cybernetics on their face, as if this makes them a different species or something). So basically, in game, you look like everyone else. There isn't much different at all. Now, on to the great voice acting and cut-scenes. Every voice acted cut scene seems the same or at least very similar, and the animations of the characters aren't very intricate or exciting. In fact, they are clumsy and stale when they do move if at all. Watching these cut-scenes may be an upgrade from purely text-based quest givers, but sometimes you wish you didn't watch them: they are that boring and unimpressive. You just don't feel any more immersed because of these. The camera angle is also recycled throughout and remains stagnant in each scene-you never see your character in action apart from talking to the specific person. The animation quality lacks throughout combat and gameplay as well. Everything just seems to move awkwardly. The art style is okay, but nothing special. Sometimes you may question why they went for the awkward cartoon art style, but I would accept it in an MMO for the sake of latency in large battlefields (though other MMOs have proven that a higher quality graphics render can survive with massive amounts of people on screen). When you get to the action, you can't help but feel like you are playing WoW again, but without an "auto-attack" (though the replacement for this does not make it any superior). You use various skills and abilities unlocked by talking to a trainer, and these skills are largely "click on target, press button, wait for animations and damage to finish, move on to next ability or enemy" and it is extremely boring. In fact, much of the game resembles WoW in many aspects. As stated before, you unlock skills by talking to a trainer. You fight with stale abilities. You have your basic class archetypes: healer, tank, dps. For a game that was supposed to be so revolutionary, there is almost nothing new (save the dialogue/cut-scenes, but these aren't impressive as previously discussed). You do have a good/bad meter, much like those found in Kotor I and II, but they really don't make up for anything. Yeah, you can be a "good" sith or an "evil" jedi, but largely your faction is still the same along with your enemies and the game as if you played the typical good jedi and evil sith. Companions aren't that interesting either: they play much like pets in other MMOs, but they have back stories. I enjoy the space battles and the fact that you can own a starship, and that is probably one of the few reasons this game got a 4 instead of a 2 or 3 from me. I find the starship to be actually different, new, and fun, succeeding in being a revolutionary idea truly worthy of supporting and praising, as it has not been done in many other MMOs and still remains enjoyable, unlike the much-hyped voice acting. There are really no other qualities to redeem this game though, and it isn't fun. I wanted to stop playing in the starting zone in fact, but trudged on for God knows why. I've only really been impressed with Bioware for Kotor, and this game did not do anything to improve that mindset. They have lost their touch since those games, or maybe just fell behind and became irrelevant and outdated, and this game shows every bit of that. It is a stale, lifeless and all around poorly made relic of the past that doesn't fit well with new MMOs or even new games in general, and even the great classics of the past would mock it and shun it. Bioware just made a grab at the WoW and Star Wars audience, trying to get their money by shipping out an unimaginative game. I don't recommend it for anyone. Expand

First I am more and more convinced that pro critics are either A. only rating on technical merit, or B. Paid off by the big name games.

I did the Beta of this and kept my mouth shut, as was expected. I did not buy the game. They sent me a 7 day free trial, so I thought "why not. Maybe it got better:" But no it did not. So this is nothing more than a total rehash from other MMOs. Bit

Future world but yet they still try and add time sinks. Run run run, fight , run run run, another boring fight. I never felt emerged. I never felt like I was nothing more than a bot in a large scale universe of bots.

There is no community. a few months from launch and I am 95% of the time in a zone alone.

Hell some lesser MMO titles felt more alive after a year than this does in a few months.

It is like all the right elements are there, but they lead to nothing.
Hell the first was better than this thing they have created.

This is not a bad game. It is a good basic MMO. The updates they are talking about will make it better, but the updates are all things that should have been in at launch. Questing it boring, leveling is slow, pvp is pretty fun, ship fighting is fun however repetitive. The end game is VERY dull and offers nothing other MMOs havent been doing for a decade.

i was very exited for this game but the lack of freedom and any actual improvements over the wow gameplay saddens me, although the dialog and story are very well done.

Long time SW fan, and I've enjoyed a few of the SW games released over the years. Read plenty of SW books, seen the films a lot.

SWTOR is not going to get an easy ride from me. The game engine is competent. The character models, acceptable. The classes good to start with, of no doubt. The game falls over in a few key places, and these issue made me quit prior to my first month

The game falls over in a few key places, and these issue made me quit prior to my first month completing.

There is no auto group system in the game ( as their is in Rift and WOW ) so looking for random groups in that first month could take hours. Not good.

The game has been in development for years, I remember it being on the front cover of issue 2 of GamesTM ( a uk based gaming mag). The game eventually got released whilst issue 116 was on the shelves. So why did the patching system cause me, and apparently many others so much grief ? If you've not had this issue this comment will mean nothing to you. It was almost a game breaker by itself for me.

The chat system, in that first month at least, would randomly bar you from a chat window, like "Party Chat" for no apparent reason. The only way to resolve was to exit the game. Then you lost your group. See my first point.

The music. John Williams wrote amazing music for the original SW trilogy. The game uses soundbytes of his music at best. Why is John Williams music not looping in game continuously and being used creatively? Some of the stuff they put in their is frankly dirge like.

I played as a jedi to level 34 and a smuggler to level 24. I found I DID NOT want to repeat many of the quests a thrid time around with alt characters. Many quests were simply dull . ( for me personally)

This game is NOT an open universe. Everything is instanced. To travel from one planet to the next requires no less than 5 load screens around 30 seconds each, plus copious amounts of running between areas in between. Very dull.

There is no open space combat, it is instanced and on wires for YOU only. Why isnt this game one vast open universe with space you can fly through real time , and planets that are genuinely open ( like WOW and Rift) ?

The game is NOT cross server compaitble, so any unusal hour sessions in game can be a somewhat barren experience without the auto group system. I score this game 5/10, it commits the worst crime, it's not good, it's not bad...it just illicits ambivalence from me, and all but 1 of the 11 friends and family members who joined me on launch of SWTOR.

I think SWTOR is a good game for a game made by committee and a dev team who were not the folks who made the original KOTOR. There is something coldly business like about it. It does not "FEEL" very Star Wars to me, it fails to illicit that warm fuzzy feeling that the old games, comics, books and films manage.
In many ways it just misses the point and doesn't tick enough boxes for my inner Star Wars fanboy.

A great opportunity missed by a fairly wide margin. I'm back to WOW & Rift already. Why mess with perfection and dev teams that seem to care ( in the case of RIFT at least ).

If I could sell my Collectors edition and account in some way, I think I would. I wouldn't miss htis game in the slightest

LucasArts generally exercised greater quality control of Star Wars games than most licensed properties receive, though that didn't necessarily translate into titles that were actually good. I've played a few other Star Wars games in the past, and while the SNES platformers were pretty good, this one is even better. Knights of the Old Republic may just be the best game in the franchise, and succeeds at being a top-tier RPG even if one has no interest in Star Wars. BioWare did the license proud.

I wound up bailing out on Star Wars: The Old Republic well before hitting the level cap, but not before digging into it more so than any other MMO I've played. Even if it is an unhappy marriage between two wildly different game types, the fact that it kept me hooked for so long at least counts for something.

A good game. It pays excellent homage to the film series (even though it's set before the movies), and is a really solid MMO.
