Best Mmo I have ever played, great ! Cool graphics, interesting features like your own companion and star ship, this is surely not only a wow clone, it has enough new features, the story and cutscenes are superb. Everoney who gave this game 0-2 points, should never write a review again, no game deserves 0 points. Enjoy it !

I am currently addicted to this game. I haven't looked forward to logging into an MMO for many years and SWTOR is rekindling the MMO fire in me again. There are some aspects of the game that I am kind of meh about, but I have the utmost confidence in Bioware.

I'm not sure what is confusing or misleading about that. The standard MMO mechanics are here that have been around for a decade; however, this game never advertised itself as anything different. If you go in expecting an MMO, it delivers and then goes beyond with immersing class stories and top notch voice acting. If you go in expecting something other than a traditional MMO, it falls short. People can argue and complain about the huge budget, subscription fees, grinding, leveling, skill trees, or whatever until the rest of us go deaf, but it won't change what this game is at it's core. It's a polished, accessible, and incredibly fun MMO. I've been playing since October and have seen the game evolve first hand. It's made amazing progress. There are still shortcomings for sure. The graphics lack intricate detail but most of it still looks pretty darn good and the world's are vast and varied. Space combat exists as a mini-game but it is good for what it is, and BioWare already confirmed it will be expanded. The UI is clunky, but functional. I've gotten used to it over time. The questing can start to wear you down, but it's paced very well and it seems that whenever I am just getting tired of the questing on a planet I am whisked off to a different one. What this game does right far outshines it's faults in my eyes. The stories are all interesting and packed with humor. They're a ton of fun. The combat is pretty standard skill rotation, but the animations are fluid and the sound of combat feels perfect. The sounds of blaster fire, explosions, and lightsabers crashing against one another was very well done, as was the music and voice acting. There are some odd moments in the voice acting, but overall it's really solid. Companions are a welcome addition too. I could go on and on because there is a plethora of content in this game and we're only at launch, which is the smoothest launch I've seen in 10 years and about a dozen different MMOs. BioWare did well with the Star Wars IP and their first foray into the MMO genre is a huge success in my opinion. I wouldn't rate it a perfect 10, more like an 8.5, but with all the stupid 0-2 ratings from people who try to judge the graphics compared to Crysis or Skyrim, or the combat system to Guild Wars 2 (which doesn't even have a release date yet!)... I have to give it a 10 to offset the shear amount of scared naysayer fanboys. In my honest opinion, this is an MMO worth checking out at least for the first free month. It doesn't bring many new ideas to the table, but the stories are worth the entrance fee, and the sci-fi atmosphere is a nice change from the elves and dwarfs of other fantasy lands. Expand

In short, a complete and true MMORPG. Quests and the story-telling are entertaining and FUN. They are no different than other MMO's, but the way Bioware presents them is 100x better. Warzones are similar to scenarios in Warhammer Online. I have not tried the Open World Free for All PvP yet, but am looking forward to it. So far this is the best experience I have had in an MMO.

The game shares similar features with other games but has a fresh feel to it. The sound is great the graphics are good and the gameplay is fun. If you like themed MMOs, Star Wars, or Mass Effect, you will likely enjoy this game. Personally this game is a 8/10 but it gets a 10 from me to offset the fools who give it a 0.

This is the first time in 13 years of mmorpgs play, that i actually don't mind my level, i want to play just to know what happen next: is my master really trying to deceive me? i am really the new hope of the sith empire? im not bound anymore, to check my xp to the next lvl, hoping to never ever kill another 200 boars to level up.
Im just traveling space back and fort trying to rise from a slave to a dark lord of sith, this and many more is STWOR, im playing my story, im finally playing my character the way i want to, not bound anymore, to kill everything on sight to gather xp, and proceed to the next area with no real motive other than get another lvl up.

*Companions help you with crew skills which takes out the monotony and grind of leveling crafting/gathering skills
*PvP is extremely balanced. No one class can rule them all or survive a fight forever, aka Paladins in WoW
*PvP warzones are completely unique and fun to play
*Item customization/upgrades allow you to keep a weapon or piece of armor til end game if you choose and remain competitive , though, it requires work.
*Great graphics especially for an MMO
*Music and sounds in game are all consistent with the Star Wars universe you will often hear epic music during your fights and travels *Quests, flashpoints, and operations are really challenging. Bioware doesn't assume that you're a retard like Blizzard does and make everything so simple and easy that it's boring.

    Cons:
*Minor non-gamebreaking bugs, will likely be patched soon
*Server wait times can get a little long, Bioware needs to allow server transfers for characters
    *Instanced servers

ps. Don't listen to the haters, it's well worth the money.

Ask me the one thing that makes this one stand out over all the others and I will say that you get to experience real and meaningful story BEFORE you get to high end raids unlike other MMOs. In other words, you already are a hero by the time you start raiding which goes a long way to satisfy casual, solo and small group minded players.

Getting into raids is easier too. Not to bash WoW (which I did like), but this game doesn't require that you grind dozens if not hundreds of hours trying to get enough gear so that you can get into the significant raids where the meaningful story takes place. That endless grind and obscene demand of my time was what previously burned me out of other MMOs. Instead, you can jump into the raids right away.

Other great aspects of this game are:

    * Fully voiced dialogue with quest givers, companions, and others.

    * Morality choices giving light or dark side points. These choices do have some impact on your game experience with quests opening up while others close based on your prior choices.

    * Companions to talk to that give you quests, craft, and grow closer (or farther) to/from you depending on how you interact with them.

    * Stable launch. Have experienced very few bugs.

    * Fun and dynamic PvP system. Reminds me of WoW in this way and this is not a bad thing.

    * Smaller raid (8 or 16 man) sizes than most other MMOs which I like.

    * Difficulty slider for Flashpoints (Dungeons) and Operations (Raids) for the casual and hard core player alike.

    * A solid crafting system that allows one to not only create new items but to upgrade existing items so that one can keep weapons and armor for the duration of their game play experience if they so choose. In other words, the crafting system is deceptively deep.

    * Fantastic music that gives me a real sense of Star Wars immersion.

    CONS

There are a few cons and I would be remiss if I didn't mention them. Some of these are:

    * Long que waits on Sunday night for me. Both wait times lasted 25 and 30 minutes.

    * Small bug where I didn't get money from selling a few items on the auction system.

    * Coruscant is too big. Lots of running around that planet. They should've made the ground vehicle available to us allot sooner. * Inflexible and cumbersome UI. They need to allow the community to create their own mods for this.

This game is a major step forward for the MMO genre, period. It combines the compelling story based gameplay of other Bioware games like Kotor and Mass Effect with the basics of the best in breed MMOs. I personally have tried every "wow killer" MMO that's come out since 2007, including Warhammer, Age of Conan, Aion, and Star Trek Online (tbh the only one I didn't play was Rift.) This game is really the only one, out of all of them, that has not only lived up to my expectations, but has surpassed them.

I wasn't really looking forward to this game initially; then I got into the beta. Once I actually played the game, I started counting the days until release. Each class has class only quests that tell a compelling story about that particular class. Additionally, unlike pretty much every other major MMO, you are presented with choices during these quests lines, much like the aforementioned Kotor and Mass Effect games. All in all this is a first rate, top notch game, both from the MMO and single player perspectives.

I'm honestly not really sure what the trolls are complaining about....if you like WoW and don't HATE Star Wars you'll enjoy this game, period.

There are plenty of legitimate reasons for you to disagree with me about that, but, again, it seems odd to me that so many people seem to think this is a terrible game. Is somebody trying to spike this game on metacritic for some reason, e.g., to protect WOW which needs its large player base because it's otherwise more than a little dated?

I've talked to at least 50 people about this game, many of them gaming veterans. It's split about 50-50 between people who agree with me and people who don't think this game is great, but think it's quite good. I haven't talked to a single actual person who has played the game and has an opinion even in the ballpark of all these negative reviewers. in fact, my 3 good friends who are guildmasters of a power guild in WOW are all abandoning their WOW accounts to start a new guild in SWTOR.

However even really good games that i enjoyed and are actually well-made game still have a percentage of zero or troll reviews SO IVE ATTEMPTED TO RESPOND to these with my views on various complaints made about the game. SWTOR isn't perfect by any means but that doesn't mean it a bad or sub-standard game. I'll compare to the other available options first. Wow is a game i played for six months on a private SERVER mostly to get used to MMO system , PVE/PVP ETC. Up until this point i was an XBOX gamer and a kotor fan so i was expecting kotor 3 on the xbox. I enjoyed my time playing WOW BUT I WOULDN'T ACTUALLY pay a subscription for it ( check my previous review for a full explanation of WOW AND SWTOR ) . The other mmo's on the market that I would consider are LOTRO and Rift both seem similar to WOW but hold no interest for me. The next expansion of WOW is something i might go back to but that not coming to next year and it going to even longer on a private server. that leaves me with diablo 3 and guild wars 2, im sure they're good in their own way but it made me realise that SWTOR was the only MMO for me. So ive been playing SWTOR since release i have a lvl 50 bounty hunter and 3 other alts on the dark side. I'm going to the republic side once ive lvled my alts. I found the game enjoyable and entertaining but there several features that considered standard that are missing in the game. The two most notable omissions are a looking for group system for group quests and a guild bank. Both these are crucial for an MMO'S success as they aid the commuinty socialization and development. Some reviews have also suggested that they are going to wait until patch 1.2 because this is a live beta test. This is mostly true because honestly the game wasn't complete on launch. They only had a very small release window because of BF3, MW3 and SKYRIMM in november and mass effect 3 in march along with diablo 3 and guilds wars 2. So bioware had to release in december because the only other viable option would be summer 2012. The game had already been pushed back several times and it simply wasn't fair on the substantial SWTOR community that been waiting patiently for the games release. In addition Bioware alienated large sections of the market by not releasing in Asia or Australia and not developing the game for mac's. Mac users have pc emulation bootcamp and parallel so that solves that problem and SWTOR releases the game in Australia in march. It is also also true that there are graphical and performance issues even on high-end machines. I just don't go to the imperial fleet (The main dark side base ) in the daytime cos my framerate drops and it makes running about doing trading and training difficult. This also also affects the open pvp ilum as to many players affect framerates. Everywhere else is fine with glitches and bugs in the odd place but these dont really affect gameplay. There were numerous other bugs on release but most of these have been fixed. The linear aspect or lack of sandbox has also been criticized. Other mmo's have the appearance of go anywhere do anything but this is an illusion. Most mmo zones have a certain level and if you are gathering this narrows your scope so you usually end up going to the same places depending on your profession. If ur lvling as well this creates a lot of grind . The companion system of profession missions largely eliminates the grind leaving you to venture forth on the planets. The linear part actually helps here as your class quests suggests area's appropriate to your level with the option of additional heroic group quests. Most of the planets are huge and offer a reasonable amount of choice, for example i been to tattooine 3 times but i've only been to half of the zones. There is also the fact that the republic side have there own planets and area's on later planets and this is only at launch with more planets and zones to be added. Flashpoints are instanced heroic quests with more of a story element these are very enjoyable. I've been concentrating on lvling my alts and their professions so i haven't raided or done operations. These are still a bit buggy so i will wait until the next patch for that. PVP is fun and more balanced cos of 50 only war zones and space combat is a fun mini-game. Anyone buying this game knows they're getting a bioware product which has standard mmo framework with mass effect's UI and the SWTOR IP. So all these haters and trolls shouldn't complain cos it's more or less advertised as is and does what it says on the tin. It definitely offers 3 months of solid gameplay Expand

If you notice alot of the complaints on here are minor issues, minor complaints about small details that don't even matter. Overall the game is FUN.

The game is designed to be savored and enjoyed, not rushed through. Of course you will have problems finding groups if you have rushed forward through PUG groups and gotten to a point to where your gear completely sucks. You have to take time to farm rep, lightside/darkside points and commendations if you want to be abe to compete later on.

It's designed where backtracking and building your character up is absolutely essential and quite enjoyable. It's old school RPG gameplay mixed with an MMO environment that gradually builds as your character does.

Take time and enjoy the game, don't rush it, make the most of all the content, in the end it pays off ALOT. Most MMO's don't payoff until you get into big groups, Star Wars TOR pays off constantly and is enjoyable for every type of gamer.

It's a melding of casual and hardcore structure that until this point all other MMO's have failed to combine. It's isn't super easy and at the same time isn't extremely difficult, teamwork and strategy can make just as much difference as stats and gear.

The balance is strong with this one.

All other mmorpgs are boring, just farming. This one.. you level up without even checking the level bar, just from story to story, from cooperative with friends to minigames, pvp and crafting, exploration and secrets, the day is gone and you're a bit stronger. You remember each quest you did, if you're not just a console gamer of nowdays action only, you will find that this wheel runs very well and different. Dialogs in cooperative (with friends) are a pure innovation not only in mmorpgs but in game genre, there is no other mmorpg that may say the same out there, other mmorpg are just the usual farming and action will not solve this (Tera already failed in its land, you'll see the others).
The game is not a 10, it's an 8 for me (but the other mmorpgs are 5, I hate farming and I was abandoning the genre for that), I put this vote just because I think the users that vote 0 to a good game like this must be balanced by somebody (this vote system sucks really, failed completely).

    Gameplay:

I see a lot of reviews comparing this game to WoW. That is because it is:

    A. An MMORPG
    B. An MMORPG which features attacking enemies, finding items, and completing quests.

For all the WoW fans who are distraught to see other people enjoying a game similar to their own, consider this:

Star Wars: The Old Republic from Bioware closely resembles not only World of Warcraft, but Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic...from Bioware.

When was KoToR released? 2003. It had a much more simplified version of the skills queue and combat exchange, but it was more or less similar. WoW was released in 2004. Are we to call it a KoToR clone? The skill tree always reminded me of the skill trees in Diablo II. Using the logic of some people we could call World of Warcraft a Diablo II clone. The fact is, that isn't true. Neither is the idea that ToR is a WoW clone. Now enough of the vs. crap. I think that most people who buy this game should expect an MMO and everything which comes with a major multiplayer RPG online. Some of the quests are mundane grinds. Some of the gameplay outside of the character story gets tired and old. Some of the combat and running all over the place gets tedious after a while. If you can't handle those things however you shouldn't criticize the game, you should simply try to get a refund and never attempt to play an MMO ever again.

    Graphics/Technical:

The graphics snobs who write reviews always amuse me. I suppose if a game is released and it isn't automatically the industry standard for graphics and artistic styling, it is a massive failure of some sort. This game looks just fine to me. Is it over the top amazingly great looking? No. Does it look like a pathetic pile of crap? Hardly.

I've never played a game which rendered distances so well, or one which transitioned so well between zones. Sure there are a few launch hiccups here and there- sometimes I get lighting glitches where the screen has green rays on it for a second, then they go away. Oh no.

I wonder if the WoW fanboys recall the initial launch of that game the way I do. It was mired with its share of problems just like any massive game like this. I'm actually surprised that this game was released so relatively polished, considering how the recent (and when I say recent I mean the past 8 years) trend of game developers is to release a totally unfinished barely playable product and then slowly patch it over the course of a few months.

I'd also like to point out that while some are disappointed with the graphics as they are:

    A. There have been games which have been released in the past which were so taxing and so optimized for the latest VGA technology, a huge chunk of the buyers couldn't play the game without major overhauls to their computer systems. ToR is a taxing enough game for an average system, but for the sake of earning the respect of graphics snobs, I suppose they should have made it more "pretty" so that .001 percent of the population would be able to actually play it.

    B. I once again recall the launch of another popular MMO called World of Warcraft. I remember thinking at the time "man this game looks kind of crappy and cartoonish". I know I wasn't alone in that opinion. I feel that if a game has good enough gameplay however, the graphics aren't really all that important.

    Final rating & explanation:

I give this game an 8/10. I hoped for more out of the gameplay as did many people. I was hoping that this would be a bit of a break from the KoToR/WoW mix that it feels like. I don't think I can fault it for not being a vague and abstract hope I carried, but I feel that it could have tried harder in a few places. I felt the grind feeling around level 14 or so and that hasn't happened to me in an RPG since I made the mistake of playing some crazy ass Korean RPG a few years ago.

The characters are fun, the gameplay is typical, but it is a formula which has proven to be fun or at least addicting enough to keep lots of people playing. The stories I've played through were entertaining as a Star Wars fan (hell I enjoyed this a lot more than those stupid prequels) and overall I would recommend this game to someone who is an MMO and Star Wars fan. If you're playing this game but you don't actually love Star Wars all that much I think it would be easier to find fault with it.

A lot of the complaints I've seen are based on the fact that it is a "wow clone". I don't disagree with this but I feel like a lot of the reasons that wow had a customer base of multiple millions for 6 years is because it had what many mmo gamers were looking for and there is nothing wrong with sticking to a similar formula. As a bounty hunter I have found the questlines to be intriguing and enjoy the Mass Effect-esque dialogue wheel. The game does a fantastic job making me feel like the hero in my story. The early flashpoints and heroic group quests feel well tuned to easing new mmo players into the genre and become more challenging as you level up. The crew skills seemed a little off at first but as i became accustomed to them I like the fact that you can multi task with them and are not forced to stand in a city by an auction house to grind them up. As i am only level 32 at the time I have not yet experienced any of the endgame content and that of course will be a big factor in determining how long I subscribe. But at the moment I am optimistic about it and my guild plans on starting operations in January. All in all I'm very impressed with the game and I feel that if Bioware takes a page out of Blizzard's book and listens to their community when making changes they will be able to keep this game afloat for a good while. Give Bioware time to smooth out the rough spots and connection issues and let the game have its growing pains. In the meantime enjoy it for the engaging storylines and the best part of the mmo genre: killing e-beasts with your friends. If the cards are played right this game will only improve with time. It is wrong to compare it to any other game. Swtor is unique in many ways mostly the depth of the story that they made for each class as well as the amazing work that was done on the music that surrounds the game everywhere you go. The game is very stable the population on the servers is exactly what it should be the speed that you get a group for an instance or pvp is really good.
It is a game for almost everyone i could say although i cant talk about the end game as i havent reached that level yet. each class has a very distinctive role in groups in PVE or PVP environment. all in all i highly recommend the game to solo or group players to star wars and non star wars fans. i do not recommend it to people who will want an improved version of wow or EQ or anything in that respect. SWTOR is Unique in many more ways than one its an Epic production from Bioware and Lucas arts, its not here to change the genre its here to make players HAPPY !

If you are a social gamer, the guilds are plentyful and I've come across some really nice players who are willing to help. The game has not gone through any major re-vamp since its release showing they really took their time prior to releasing it. The story line is amazing and I have had 0 problems with graphics or slow down. Im currently a lvl 30 Jedi Sentinel Dual Wielding lightsabers and teaching my padawan the ways of the force... its GREAT :)
To be fair though, the chat system is not as good as I think it could be and there is no online talking chat service available, players instead opt for other chat options... I prefer to just type but I see the fun in talking with buddies while playing...
Finally the side games... there are 3 different PVP games that are played and I have not seen mentioned anywhere. One is like a football game where players get a ball and try to score while the other team tries to stop u. One is a capture the flag style game, and the final is a break through walls game while the other team tries to stop u. All are fun.
If you just want a game to kick back to and have a good time this game is for u. If you want to lvl up and become the strongest jedi in the universe, this is it. If u r looking for something like WoW, this is not it. The WoW game has NOTHING of the depth or story line this does. This is also easy to navigate in and UNDERSTAND what quest you are on, what you are doing, and where to go next (With thrown in side quests and some fun crafting options)
Hope this helps for those that are thinking of playing. I highly recommend you come and join me :) P.S. I've been playing for around 10 days now and still LOVE IT!

Well worth the 5+ years I waited for this game. The questing in this game is heads and shoulders above any other game out there. Leveling does not feel like a grind. Not to mention once you get off your second world when leveling (about level 15-18) and you get into the 3rd and 4th world the space really opens up and you feel like you are in the star wars world. Personally, I will be playing this game for years, and judging by how many people bought this game and pre-ordered it will be very successful. It broke all of WoWs records. Now all we need is to keep all those 10 year old fanboys out of this game and it would be perfect! Expand

Playing through the first two worlds on both Republic and Imperial sides, I have enjoyed several hours of gameplay and it feels like I just scratched the surface. I review this game as a casual WoW player who enjoys single player RPGs and Bioware has done a great job bringing the genres together. The Old Republic includes voice acted quest progression that immerses the player into the story rather than the game. Much like in the KOTOR series your actions help form your character's story while also giving you benefits for the MMO such as being able to equip an evil light saber. Every player also uses a companion NPC which has useful abilities to aid your particular class (a healer for tanks for example). These companions will do crafting missions to gather resources as well as turn materials into items for the player. Crafting is simple and very similar to other MMOs; however, Bioware has included a chance for players to craft exceptional gear which adds bonuses to items and also allows them to craft the upgraded version into an even higher quality item. The Star Wars universe feels extremely large even before you're able to fly your own ship. Players take speeder bikes or taxis around huge maps giving each section of the world a large amount of space to expand and room for more quests and story. Groups of players can take on difficult missions called Heroics for bigger rewards and harder challenges. There are also many Flashpoints (TOR version of dungeons/instances) with full story lines and strategic boss battles for advanced players and teams. With only 7 days of experience, I still have so much left to play: PVP, Operations (raids), datacron searching (Google it), and space battles! I would recommend The Old Republic to players with patience, fast reaction, critical thinking, and at least a small fondness for the Star Wars universe. It is expected for a game with thousands of quests, a hundred zones, and millions of players to have bugs in the first month of its release. Many reviewers expect this game to be polished out of the box and blow all other MMOs out of the competition, but this is simply just another great game that everyone should play. Bioware has put an estimated 200-300 million dollars into the development of this game and they're listening to their players, do not underestimate the potential of The Old Republic. Expand

End game pvp consists of fighting low level players in warzones. It is completely unchallenging for the level 50s and impossibly frustrating for level 10 - 40s. There are no level brackets. The system is an absolute joke.

PvP gets a score of 2 out of 10.

    The questing gets an 8/10

Average score for the game 6/10

I saw one idiot (Thorn14) saying that the PvP warzone huttball should be a blank canvas but isnt due to the air jets in the middle area of the warzone. Hey, buddy, the person can be shot in the totally wrong direction too!! Go figure that....
Bunch of WoW fanboys are also complaining about the graphics of the game (MagusGrandios, especially.) Hey, genius-boys, the dev, BioWare MADE IT THAT WAY FOR A REASON. That was so that it didnt require you going out and spending $$$ on new computers or hardware in general to be able to run it! Fools!
A bunch of WoW fanboys are **** and moaning about this being a 'carbon copy of World of Warcraft' (too many to name) This is a typical fanboy response when their game is threatened by a product heads and tails BETTER than their game. Pay them no heed. this game is virtually NOTHING like WoW, and I know because I've played it, too.

Those are just a few of the trollers. now that some of them are dealt with, Let me tell you from a true perspective (and yes, I have played MMORPG's for years) that the only major issue I have with SW:TOR is the fact that the republic doesnt have more interesting aliens to play. For all the fanboys of WoW again pissing and moaning their collective heads off about the Empire not having multiple races... THEY'RE THE EMPIRE!! THEY'RE A XENOPHOBIC SOCIETY THAT WOULDN'T LET THE ALIENS INTO ANY PART OF SOCIETY THAT MEANT A DAMN! WANNA PLAY A MMORPG WHERE YOU'RE A SLAVE?? DIDNT THINK SO!! Sorry, it just irks the hell outta me when I see obvious trolls trolling something so epic as SW:TOR. And let there be trolls to this post. It just proves my point.

Despite that slight issue, the graphics are workable on almost every system someone could have. (PC system obviously) The worlds are really well worked, with random convo's and people walking around giving it almost a feeling of past, present, and future in and about the main areas. The crafting was another stroke of genius. I played games where crafting was tedious boring work. BW made it so I can go on questing doing whatever I pleased and have my minions do the gathering, and crafting for me. Then when I have the item, I can choose to reverse engineer it to attempt to learn a better way to make the same item. Great work, BW. I am extremely pleased. In closing, BioWare came through strong with SW:TOR. As I said, trolls will try to do their best to troll a game that threatens theirs. But in all honesty, this is a game that you'd be crazy not to check out, especially if you're an MMORPG fan, as I am. Hope this review cleared up some of the trolls idiotic spewing. Even if it don't have the same gameplay depth (i don't think i will ever see that again before a long time in a mmo, sadly...), the depth of the story really compensate that (at least while I'm doing it...)!

It really brings a whole new immersion level to MMO's I haven't seen before. I actually feel attached to my character now as if she is really their inside the world. If you are a Star Wars fan and have been dissapointed where the franchise has been going you will be happy to know that this is the Star Wars you know and love. In fact, my Imperial Agent story has been the most interesting Star Wars tale I've seen. The visuals are really nice to look at and have a very unique style, however, there is a nasty bug where the high settings for the textures doesn't do anything and all you see is medium. While in conversation the high textures work but once out of it no go. So I am hoping they fix this soon.

The combat to me is very smooth and rewarding, I personally love the cover system for the Imperial Agent and makes the game much more interesting. I always thought WoW had the best traditional MMO combat but ToR is up in that category I think.

The sound and music is what you would expect from a Star Wars game. The lightsabers sound great, the pew pew from the lasers is just as iconic as in the movies, and the music is one of the highlights in the audio/visual department. The voice acting is suberbly done as well with some incredible talent like Jennifer Hale voicing the game. The worlds themselves are HUGE. So much to explore and see it gets overwhelming the further you progress. At the moment to control population the game uses instancing but that is only a temporary measure that should be removed shortly according to Bioware.

I was thinking between giving the game a 9 or a 10. 9 because of some of the bugs and issues the game has but then again this is an MMO and a very large/ambitious game so I think personally I justify it as a 10. I really love the game and will play it for a long while to come.

Besides, some of our favorite games are linear, take just about every FPS in history), the PVP is fun, but the faction unbalance leads to a lot of games of Huttball which I actually love so its a win for me (people say it is unbalanced, but dogs wolf, cows moo and MMO players yell 'The PVP is unbalanced!'). In very brief, The Old Republic is a very fun game that is not the best MMOs have offered, considering WoW has gone a little donwhill with each expansion it is the best since The Burning Crusade. 8.7/10 Expand

Top notch MMO, the culmination of the last 10 years of the genre with the addition of fully voiced branching path storylines and quests. Impossible to go back to any other MMO and the lame quest text boxes after playing SW:TOR. Multiple characters over level 30 (one 50) and still cannot get enough. I'm not saying all of them are, but when you've played game and, and you read some of the negative reviews, you can tell who genuinely didn't like the game, and who has obviously never touched the game and is just trolling everyone.

This is one of the best polished MMO's, especially at launch, available. At first I was a little skeptical about the 'theme park' type setup of the game, but there is enough depth (especially as you level) that it is well worth it. If you have any interest in the Star Wars world, or just in a polished and well put together MMO, this should be your next purchase.

Well, so it's out and plenty of people are fairly hot and bothered like a brood of teenagers...one thing, however, that I don't get is that people actually believed it was going to be ground-breaking. The "WoW" mechanics are here to stay for a very long time despite all your precious hype about MMOs. I ignored the game until two days before it was released, and it was finally shoved into my head that OMG IT HAZ STORYTELLIN. And since then, I've played it solely in interest of what'll happen next...however, to tell the truth, I'd dump the game in a second without the cut scenes and the choices. Actually, I wouldn't have even gotten it in the first place...honestly, it's just a dull game without all the make-up. Probably a poorer one then most popular MMOs--graphics, though selectively pleasant (for whatever reason, they removed the freakin' high resolution textures), can easily be beaten by a four or so year old MMO...gameplay itself is just about a meh. Crafting, however, is promising--if only the in game economy wasn't in some sort of recession. >_>

So on, so forth--you've heard it before. SW:TOR is a MMO that's dismal at its core--it taps into a potentially awesome aspect of story-telling that nevertheless is superficial and leaves you with that hollow sort of feeling of dissatisfaction...the majority of interesting characters (Praven, damn you!) you meet are most likely shipped off to the dumps after helping them (whilst writing you a letter), and then there's ideas that are introduced but never elaborated upon (remember the true Republic?)....beyond that, you'd think that morality would be a theme more explored, but as it is a "accessible" mass-market sell out, profoundness is massively disencouraged. With the instancing festering severely in this game (even if you could blow up a world only two or so NPCs would care), the game suffers immensely from that sense of isolation and brokenness...nothing seems to matter ten minutes after the point--not even a cute note from the person you helped can remedy it.

So, yes, the story-telling aspect basely sucks. Yet, you may ask why the hell I gave it a 10. To hopelessly try to balance out the user score, yes, but SW:TOR gives such a honest effort to make a story-driven MMO that I just can't bring myself to treat it cruelly. I'll be dumping it when I reach level 50, though I honestly will say that I genuinely enjoyed it.

Which is really nice so that you don't have to feel you are doing the exact same thing over and over again. This has always been one thing that MMOs have failed on. This game makes recent MMOs look silly, it has more depth and shear content than any game from launch. Once you hit max level and finish out your storyline there are planet and alignment story lines to do as well. But it's way more fun to make a new character and go through another story line. This is the first MMO since Asheron's Call that has made me want to play more than 3 months. Most others I usually quit out of boredom and come back to check them out from time to time. This one is very solid and has lots of things to keep you interested. It's equally accessible solo or in a group which is great for those with a busy life and don't have much time to play a lot. The only time you really need a group is for the heroic content or when trying to do hard mode. Will play this for many years to come as long as it stays this enjoyable. Expand

Sure, it has some of the bugs you would expect from a newly launched MMO, and to be quite honest with you it would and should be impossible for a game of the sheer size and scale of SW:TOR to NOT have any right off the bat. On the up side, BioWare has been very responsive and quick to release hot-fixes and patches, thus eliminating the bugs and giving us performance boosts and client/engine optimizations to boot! This is the first MMO that puts the RPG into the term "MMORPG", and it does it exceedingly well. The personal story lines for each class are intriguing for the most part, the worst probably being between the Trooper & the Jedi Knight (they're not bad though, they just seem less memorable than other classes). Contrary to what some other people are saying on here, this game is very much a MMO, and is comes nowhere close to a "lobby" game. Zones are NOT instanced, and each server is NOT a bunch of copies of rooms and channels, the "phases" only happen when there are more than like 200 people in a small area at the same time. You do have to zone into the different planets when you arrive from your ship, but each zone on every planet is COMPLETELY and utterly seamless. No zoning what-so-ever on these planets which are remarkably large and seem to go on forever, once you hit your mid to late teens. The missions in the game are more interesting than say World of Warcraft's missions; as each NPC is fully voiced and interactive with dialogue between you, any group members you may be with, and the NPC itself, which creates a far more interesting and immersive gaming experience all around.

The biggest problem the game currently faces is a faction imbalance between Republic & Empire, with the latter being the most popular side, although there are servers where the reverse is true; they are relatively rare.

At the end of the day, though if you like RPG's and MMO's, and are curious about this game than give it a go, and if you do please roll on a Heavy or Standard server, and not one of the full ones!

Some anti-social people find it easier to open up online but I find that it is easier to deal with a lonely, anxious, introverted person face to face than a similar person whose online anonymity has gifted him with zero inhibition, inevitably leading to the unveiling of 15 years worth of ridicule and sexual frustration blossoming into a perfect **** storm of **** For instance, in my case, the act of speaking with another human being is brought to a frenzied but rigorously polite dance of anxious madness due to the fact that I am shy and unable to break the colloquial barriers that plague my kind. This leaves little reason for me to vent my frustrations on others as the origin of the fault is obviously my own. As for "the others", the fault is only obviously their own to everyone else. To them, the problem is external --the world is out to get them and they create a hierarchy of self wherein their misery must become a communal one. For these homuculi of the conscious self, the only thing keeping them from being a douche in person is the recognition of the inevitable possibility that the person with whom they are speaking may be pushed into a causal chain that ends in their [the douche] being crippled. Since about a quarter of the people I have ever interacted with in online RPG's fall under the latter classicication, I avoid them like the plague as they leave me pondering things like: "why are they here" as opposed to the more productive "why am I here".

As such, I absolutely LOVE THIS GAME!!! I finally get to have one of my beloved Bioware single player RPG'S share some of the only qualities of online RPG's that I find desirable such as ever expanding content, appropriate vastness of environment, and the occasional option to share the experience with friends (well of course I have friends...what? did you think I was an **** or something?). I adored the first two games in this series (especially the 2nd but only with the extra content. Otherwise the ending feels like a breezy summer morning stiffy followed by a close encounter with the Lorena Bobbitt kind) and the writing here rivals almost anything I came across in either of those games. The plot may be linear, but let's face it, every other Bioware narrative is just as linear but they put more effort into masking the fact with the clever illusion of openness. In conclusion I will say only this: if you find that you can relate to any of what has been said, you should probably buy this game...but don't try to add me to your group or anything. The evolutionary needs of this primate are accounted for.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Responding to common slams on SW:TOR.

"It's a lobby game/too heavily instanced": The planets go in by every 4-6 level hops. That is also the comfortable spread for grouping. Only seeing 20-150 people per world, depending on time of day, is by design. Those the ones you can group with immediately with no fuss, no worrying about people being too high or too low for anyone.

"Everyone looks the same/I see clones everywhere(right)/everyone wears the same gear in the end": The character customization options are quite robust, many options for skin tone, cybernetics (depending on race) hair, beards, scars, eye color, facial features, complexion, and tattoo's. There is more diversity than in WoW, but there are some (City of Heroes) with more. That said, this ignores the equipment system. Higher tier gear of any level can be given modifications, enhancements, and (for armor types) armoring to turn it into higher level items, all the way to 50. If you like your level 10 recruit gear and want it to be level 50, add new innards (even the rarest kinds) and you can look the way you want to, and still have all the viability you'd like. Add this to the fact that glasses, goggles, etc. are options to compliment facial features, the lack of sliders is not something I miss. And to those who insist they've seen clones of themselves everywhere, I've never seen a clone of my character on the fleet. The fleet is the main stop-off area where there are many people together, well over 100 consistently on my and most servers)

"The graphics are bad", the world design and diversity in artistic direction from world to world is amazing, for image detail there's videos of gameplay so I won't go there. But there are many moments throughout gameplay where simply looking up is enough to make you go wide eyed. "Hey, look up." was something you'd hear among my friends, and "that is so amazing." or something like it was very often the response. Because of the detail in the textures though, you will get 'texture pop' if you have less than 2 gigabytes on your card or 4 gigabytes or less in your ram, because the textures do take spac. When you're moving quickly, you will see textures spring from low res to high as you move, that is true. However, A> 8 gigs of ram also fixes that and B> That problem is very specific, and not common to standard play when you're out fighting for your cause.

"No Endgame/Poor PVP/No Replay Value": I think this is less of a sucker punch, because mileage does vary. First of all, I've seen often is that there's almost nothing. Many (10) of the previous 'flashpoints' (dungeons) have a hard mode, which is a level 50, high challenge version of the previous experience with enhanced challenges and level 50 rewards. Secondly, there are two operations (raids) available now in normal and hard mode if you want a larger scale challenge involving 8-16 people. There are 4 pvp modes including ilum overworld pvp. Each have different goals and methods for winning, and I find them each quite fun.

"Your choices don't matter": I can't actually choose to kill a quest giver because he needs to give other people quests, therefore they don't give you that choice. However, in a flashpoint called "Black Talon" I can choose whether to spare a captain that disobeyed an order to charge a battle cruiser with a small transport, or to let him live. If I kill or imprison him, his first officer takes command and, due to inexperience, she lets a boarding party slip into our engine room and we have scramble to keep them from shutting our engines down. If he stays in command, our engine room remains safe. If we kill him and then terrorize his crew, when we return they will have mutinied, afraid we would kill them all regardless, and we return to a bridge full of corpses. If we inspired more than terrified, we return to a bridge crew congratulating our success. "That doesn't matter" seems a bit selective, because the plot plays out very differently. No, you may not be able to destroy planets other players could use, but the choices you make can, and do, affect what happens.

"Combat is mashing hotkeys/boring": Beyond 'force' (a resource like mana) there is 'heat' (Stronger attacks generate more, you must keep it down, which is harder when you've got more heat) and rage/focus (you must build them to use more powerful attacks), as well as a charge attack/interrupt feature and more. Add to that companion system to add strategy to your encounters, and very compelling combat animations, you have a truly engaging system.

There are other points, but I just wanted to set the record on a few major ones. I strongly recommend you take feedback that breathlessly repeats 'don't leave WoW, it's not a WoW killer!' much like you would take someone screaming 'Simpsons movie sucks!'. Some people legitimately don't like it, but the wave of vitriol? That's unwarranted.

LucasArts generally exercised greater quality control of Star Wars games than most licensed properties receive, though that didn't necessarily translate into titles that were actually good. I've played a few other Star Wars games in the past, and while the SNES platformers were pretty good, this one is even better. Knights of the Old Republic may just be the best game in the franchise, and succeeds at being a top-tier RPG even if one has no interest in Star Wars. BioWare did the license proud.

I wound up bailing out on Star Wars: The Old Republic well before hitting the level cap, but not before digging into it more so than any other MMO I've played. Even if it is an unhappy marriage between two wildly different game types, the fact that it kept me hooked for so long at least counts for something.

A good game. It pays excellent homage to the film series (even though it's set before the movies), and is a really solid MMO.
