Been waiting for this game since 1999. Awesome vision well executed. Clearly labor of love. Great flight model, pure killer app in VR. Surprisingly good with mouse+keyboard.

New Star Wars Game with cool gameplay and epic plot! I personally find it interesting to play because the plot expands the canon and in general the lore of Star Wars.

Let aside the identity politics (skip story, skip dialogs : who cares?*), the game suffers from several issues : technical and otherwise.

First, speaking from the point of view of a HOTAS player:
Flight sticks have an horrible big dead zone.
Some actions are needlessly cumbersome and horribly designed (I would need two thumbs to do one of them, when using simply 2 buttons would have made it both easy and efficient : no can do).

As far as the game goes, there are stuttering problems even with high-end hardware.

Playing, it took me a while to realise listening to the objective was counter-productive : kill everything and do NOT do what they tell you to do, it's usually a one-way ticket to lose.

During one of my earliest missions, I died several times before understanding I was too close from some "damaging area" while chasing other fighters. It didn't appear to be a bother for any other ship but mine.

I also despise the small maps (turn around now or die, whoops : too late). Your "team" often flights next to you which makes it weird when you realise they are following you following them in the wrong direction.

At the end of one mission, escaping a place at high velocity (it was a requirement), I found myself way past the rendez-vous point when it finally appeared after the pointless chit-chat ended. Boom : I'm dead. You can imagine I will not try this ♥♥♥♥ again to get the survivalist achievement.

Speaking about stupid or unfair deaths : at the end of yet another mission (Empire), I managed to destroy specific parts of a big enemy ship to ease its obliteration. My this last task done, I'm peacefully heading to the hangar to end it. A few seconds away from the door, from the corner of my eye I see a Empire support ship (ally) coming fast from the right, reaming into me : boom, dead.

To the list of annoyances, you can add the intrusive tutorials who DEMANDS you to do some action while you already did it, hiding your current target with a stupid window and of course making you fail what you were doing (most of the time, putting shield front and firing to a squad doing the same to you). You can imagine how this kind of ♥♥♥♥ ends and how frustrating it is.

Imagine that all this ♥♥♥♥ is just from the top of my head.

The game isn't very expensive but it's worth way less.

*) If you do, you can also skip the game. You'll get allergies.

After playing the game for 5 hours, total, i delete SW:S from my system. The graphics are the best of the game, maybe the cinematic too. I become headache while playing on a 27" screen with an Xbox Controller. The most time of this game you are searching your enemy until hes past you again, and again and again, annoying.

Short opinion after 10 hours of playing this game. SinglePlayer. A big improvement if compare to SP Battlefront 2 (2017). Multiplayer. Very fun and a lot of action. For now, my score for this game is 9 out of the 10. The very cool successor of games series X-Wing and Tie-Fighter.

It is not anywhere near as involved or unforgiving as something like Elite: Dangerous, but you'll really want a HOTAS setup to take advantage of everything it has to offer. Lots of power management and configuration, so having everything at the fingertips is a decided edge over people who are trying to dance across the keyboard to accomplish the same tasks.

Gameplay offers some great variety and exciting moments. (The boost drifting in particular is extremely enjoyable once you get the hang of how to pull it off.) AI can be fairly aggressive, which is nice, so SP and co-op missions are quite enjoyable. Graphics are nothing mind-blowing, but everything is crisp, clear, and very well designed. I took only a couple of missions to switch off the hud elements and fly on instruments only. Definitely immersive in all the right ways.

And best of all -- 0% of the game is microtransactions. You unlock everything by playing, and it comes at a pretty good pace. No ship equipment options feels OP as of yet, and it's 100% possible to do extremely well in MP matches using default builds. It's more like a Dark Souls approach -- lots to fiddle with, but there is no "best" anything. Everything is give and take.

Spectacular. This is definitely a labor of love created by people who care about gameplay and excitement more than the almighty dollar. Shame it had to take EA so many years to get back to the roots of what gaming is all about.

So far, I'd say the only complaint I have is that customizing your pilot's appearance is extremely limited. That's entirely cosmetic, but there aren't even options to change the face or hair options. Already had a match in which everyone on our team had picked exactly the same character model. And I was the only one that wasn't wearing the default flight suit. (I felt sooo out of place! :D )

Its not worth the price in my opinion. To expensive for what it offers. Gameplay is just ok.. Played with Rift S and Hotas.

I really like space games and have several flight sticks and pedals etc and the great news is: sticks and pedals are fully supported. Hotas, hosas, pedals. All supported.

The bad new that it doesn't matter much. At least not on on a detailed level as I had hoped for flight control. Squadrons quite simply doesn't feel like flight in space at all. No real drift aside from a manual button

The graphics are even on ultra not a real highlight as they are made for VR performance I guess... and then there are the bugs. Keybindings don't react as bound for the mission prompts, the camera seems to have a life of its own when no vr is connected, etc. But my biggest gripe is to be confronted with such a overly casual flight handling. I am sure that it will be lots of fun for many players who just want to make things go boom, and for players like me the piloting skill involved and needed is simply too unrealistic, simple and dumbed down too much.

Also the HUD seems like a ancient thing, probably also in favor of VR. I recommend this game ONLY for VR use. I have a VIVE but even that could not make me want to play more due to the underwhelming flight handling. Just too simplistic for me. After having played it I really think that most of the hight and great "official" reviews were money based, not honesty based. Oh, one more positive: it has good 21:9 support if you ignore video cutscenes.

From the very first trailer, I realized that this is exactly the game that I have been waiting for. Combining the spirit of the old space simulators with the canon of Star Wars, Star Wars Squadrons is very good and definitely deserves attention.

What I was missing: -Third person view -More space aliens for customization -More representation. Yes, Gunny and Gray turned out to be very good,

-More representation. Yes, Gunny and Gray turned out to be very good, but I would like to see more open representatives of minorities both in the game and in general, in the Star Wars universe. I was also hoping to see Grey's husband in the story.
-The Phoenix Squadron look does not match the Rebels animated series. I was hoping to see the blue-green camouflage of the fighters under Sato's command.

The campaign is just to get you the hang of the game which is acceptable and does a good job but the real fun started when I began playing the multiplayer, its hard to be good at which is nice and the ships have enough customization to make the loadouts feel unique and different. I have been pleasantly surprised by this game.

an honest and true successor to old school Xwing and Tiefighter sims. PVP is intense and satisfying. The price is really good value, especially if you are into VR.

I am playing with 4 other friends on various set ups ranging from Logitech 3d pro to X Box game controller with some using VR and none of us have had any tech issues. Overall, a great 5 v 5 game that encourages team work and tactics to win.

Great game, fun campaign and INCREDIBLE multiplayer...bought via STEAM and it has exceded my expectations by far.
Dont believe the posts that the game runs badly...RTX2060 and playing at 100fps..,If you like space ship simulators or STAR WARS this is a buy

EA can also make good games....everyone deserves a chance!

To put it simply, Star Wars: Squadrons is a low-budget X-Wing vs TIE Fighter II based off of Battlefront II’s space battles. I admit that I expected more, but after two decades we finally got a new Star Wars sim (leaning towards the arcade side, but still) and I did enjoy it. It looks and sounds like a Star Wars game should, and Motive’s successful effort to balance such dissimilar crafts as the X-Wing and the TIE Fighter is commendable. [12/2020, p.64]

There’s a good concept at the core of Star Wars: Squadrons, as flying a space fighter and managing its systems can be a lot of fun, however, you have to be a very dedicated Star Wars fan to enjoy a drab campaign with just a handful of memorable moments and watered-down multiplayer modes from Battlefront 2.
