Really? People are complaining about SJW stuff in this game? I mean I can see why you would be hit on the nose with the bluntness of it in the new movies. To the game itself: I played the old rogue squadrons and so on. Really reminded of those, just better. Gameplay is absolutely fantastic and I'm looking forward to experiencing it in VR. Campaign is also very good, maybe not a very deep story, but good enough and definitely enough variety in missions. Getting all medals on the highest difficulty will be a challenge. Multiplayer I didn't play much. If you enjoy the core gameplay I see absolutely no problem. I hear people complaining about there not being enough variety, but the way I see it: What variety is there in racing, shooters, mobas, battle royales or whatever else might be popular? The core gameplay is fun as hell. For 40 $ I think this is a steal. Also props for no micro transactions or pay to win elements.

Great game, I hope they expand on it!

Lacking so much for VR but the game gives a stellar visual style and decent story telling.

The newest Star Wars game is out and costs only 40 €. It doesn't sound bad, but in terms of content, little is offered.
The campaign is brisk but fun. Tie Fighter and Co. can be controlled much better than Battlefront 2.
After that there is not much left. The multiplayer only has two maps and that is not enough.

This is the spiritual successor I’ve been waiting 21 years for. I mean seriously, is there any media that people like this can actually enjoy? Do they sit around watching John Wayne movies in VR on their $3000 gaming rigs? I don’t get it. Also the complaint about the graphics looking “awful” is hilarious. Playing on an RTX 2080 and this game looks BETTER than the movies do. It’s one of the best looking games on PC, you’d have to be blind to think otherwise.

That being said, there ARE some legit criticisms, some bugs that need to be patched out, a couple of small QoL changes they could make, and yes star destroyers do seem a little small, but the foundation of this game is golden (especially at its price point).

At first, I was happy with the gameplay and everything reminding me of X-Wing/Tie Fighter/X-Wing alliance series.

But for me, the real problem is there is no machtmaking: on my second match I was up against a team with a level 40 player! I mean, come-on! I don't want

I don't want to win, but I like to be able to actually PLAY and not get shot down even before arriving on the battlefield.

It would also be nice if you could hire real writers instead of talentless political activists spreading SJW propaganda.

One of the best flight experiences made in the last decade. The balance feels great and the depth of game play in fleet battle is very satisfying. It's good solo, but definitely better with friends. I can see this being the foundation of an amazing future of Star Wars simulation games. VR and HOTAS support is icing on the cake.

If you loved X-Wing/Tie Fighter you owe it to yourself

I grew up on Wing Commander 3-4 in the mid 90's, and this game is taking me right back to my middle and high school years. The sound design is wonderful, the voice acting is awesome, the look and feel of the cockpits (especially inside the TIE fighter in VR with scratches on the cockpit glass) is absolutely amazing. I 100% suck ass at dogfighting, but I've never had more fun getting wrecked.

BUT if you want the best PCVR is the only choice. Via INDEX or QUEST VD setup.

The GOOD: looks great mostly and sounds great and the idea is great and there are wow moments. It has some neat cockpits.

BAD: story is a tired cliche mess. Lots of tech issues and performance problems and the flight stick does not work as intended. Lacks polish and content. A few modes and 6 hrs single play with no secrets. A few old ships we've already used and no b-wings. Small maps for mp. Lots of hand holding and giant tutorials. VR cutscenes not in VR. DROIDS do nothing at all which is against lore and other games. The hub area is teleport rubbish. Nothing much to do and not hub space for MP. Cosmetics and upgrades change nothing. Only one view point. CAnnot use your hands in VR and flight stick doesnt move but throttle does. Many small issues too which distract from what could have been amazing. The game has not been play tested. You are paying to do that for them.

Also you're supporting Disney and EA so ...don't.

Wait for a sale and many patches and free content. The game is just not there yet and not as advertised or promised. 6/10 (7 in vr if you love SWARS and they fix the sticks).

It doesn't bring anything particularly new to the universe, but executes and entertains far better than most multiplayer-first games of today.

The VR experience is highly immersive and surprisingly not nausea-inducing, but the skybox is unfortunately very blurry which does take some visual depth away. It's probably a 7 with launch bugs and a 9 after they patch it, so I'm splitting the difference at 8.

For a non fully priced game it ticks all boxes for me and I am really enjoying it.

Only negative (because I like to always give one if I can) is that the ranked matches when someone quits you dont get the rank is really annoying as it hinders the progression.

It is not anywhere near as involved or unforgiving as something like Elite: Dangerous, but you'll really want a HOTAS setup to take advantage of everything it has to offer. Lots of power management and configuration, so having everything at the fingertips is a decided edge over people who are trying to dance across the keyboard to accomplish the same tasks.

Gameplay offers some great variety and exciting moments. (The boost drifting in particular is extremely enjoyable once you get the hang of how to pull it off.) AI can be fairly aggressive, which is nice, so SP and co-op missions are quite enjoyable. Graphics are nothing mind-blowing, but everything is crisp, clear, and very well designed. I took only a couple of missions to switch off the hud elements and fly on instruments only. Definitely immersive in all the right ways.

And best of all -- 0% of the game is microtransactions. You unlock everything by playing, and it comes at a pretty good pace. No ship equipment options feels OP as of yet, and it's 100% possible to do extremely well in MP matches using default builds. It's more like a Dark Souls approach -- lots to fiddle with, but there is no "best" anything. Everything is give and take.

Spectacular. This is definitely a labor of love created by people who care about gameplay and excitement more than the almighty dollar. Shame it had to take EA so many years to get back to the roots of what gaming is all about.

So far, I'd say the only complaint I have is that customizing your pilot's appearance is extremely limited. That's entirely cosmetic, but there aren't even options to change the face or hair options. Already had a match in which everyone on our team had picked exactly the same character model. And I was the only one that wasn't wearing the default flight suit. (I felt sooo out of place! :D )

On the other hand: story is a placeholder, and the game suffers from a couple of technical glitches - HOTAS have too much deadzone, VR experience is shaky (i wasn't able to pull this off with my oculus quest, i'm hoping that it's a cable issue, but Virtual Desktop didn't work either). Supposedly, the origin version works much better in that scope then SteamVR one.
I hope - after few patches i hope thing will be much better.
But there is a looots of BS in the opinions - EVERY time i was flying TIE and bumped into something, i died in explosion. Didn't have ANY problem with mouse control. People are complaining about microtransactions - WHAT?
"For example, in the first Imperial mission, you're simply told to scan the ships cargo's. They don't tell you which ship to scan" -THEY DO!!!! They place a marker the size of a small moon. The guy who wrote that, actually regrets that the ships have to be in front of you in order to shoot them. I'm serious, check JackH2551. He also insist that everyone moves faster then him. ARGH!
People moaning that tutorials are tutorials, that spacesim is a spacesim, the doing objectives is hard, that playing game is hard... jesus, i want to poke my eys out sometimes.
TLDR: It's fun! I hope they polish it further, improve performance, add new ships (B-wing! Tie defender!), new modes, new maps, but i like what i've got so far - definately will be playing this in coming weeks like crazy, it already got me hooked (but aiming with flightstick is hars hehe).

The incredibly low scoring reviews on here are beyond unfair to the game, and while I do concede there's some things to iron out, the overall experience is fun, we should be encouraging both this type of game and this approach to not adding microtransactions and garbage like that.

I have 16 hours in the game so far and the end still isn't in sight. For $40 you are definitely getting your money's worth. I feel like nothing is going to compare to this experience for a while.

Me and my friend haven't really had any technical issues other than it slowing down really bad in one multiplayer match so I can't really comment on the issues other people are having. I will say that the game seems to be well optimized since my friend has a Ryzen 3 1300 processor with a gtx 1060 3GB and he says it runs pretty smoothly for him in VR.

If someone is rating the game negatively because of "identity politics" or whatever then they are truly just looking for a reason to be offended by something. Throughout the whole game I was trying to figure out what people were talking about and other than one guy mentioning his husband one time in one sentence in the entire game, I couldn't find anything. To put it simply, Star Wars: Squadrons is a low-budget X-Wing vs TIE Fighter II based off of Battlefront II’s space battles. I admit that I expected more, but after two decades we finally got a new Star Wars sim (leaning towards the arcade side, but still) and I did enjoy it. It looks and sounds like a Star Wars game should, and Motive’s successful effort to balance such dissimilar crafts as the X-Wing and the TIE Fighter is commendable. [12/2020, p.64]

There’s a good concept at the core of Star Wars: Squadrons, as flying a space fighter and managing its systems can be a lot of fun, however, you have to be a very dedicated Star Wars fan to enjoy a drab campaign with just a handful of memorable moments and watered-down multiplayer modes from Battlefront 2.
