  1. There were a thousand things that could have gone wrong, making the gameplay experience a chore, or making it boring, but none of those things went wrong, and the gameplay is exciting and fun.

Orion Pirates is still "Starfleet Command II," only this time, for better or worse, it's turned up to 11.
  3. Basically the same graphics engine and gameplay as the original, with some welcome additions like pirate cartels, new ships, and missions that fit requirements of most expansion packs. Unfortunately, it also has long load times and a few bugs.
  4. If you are a big fan of the Star Trek universe and revel in the details and strategy involved in knowing the many races and ships and how to use them in battle, then Orion Pirates is the game for you.

A great game. Sure, it's a wee bit difficult, and pirates aside, the game offers little that is different from its predecessor, but for series aficionados, or those looking to become series aficionados, this is a solid piece of work.
  6. Orion Pirates has an impressive amount of content for a stand-alone expansion, so it's great for new players; but ardent fans of "Starfleet Command Volume II" will merely find more of the same.

While the extra stuff in the game has a lot of potential, the real meat of this game is the tactical combat model. Luckily there's enough going on outside of that to give you a sense of continuity.
  8. A perfect launching point for anyone new to the series, but it simply isn't worth the steep $30 price tag for anyone who already owns "Starfleet Command Volume II."
  9. 60
A worthwhile purchase for those new to the series, provided you feel ready to take on the initially steep learning curve.
