Game InformerWell written and expertly implemented. [Jan 2003, p.119]
-
By far the most straightforward and enjoyable version of the series.
-
The visual display of space and the ships is still badly executed but with tightened up control methods and an enjoyable plot to wage war through as the Federation develops a station that can detect cloaked vessels.
-
PC GamerIt hurts to see an awesome game in a series I love be diminished by bugs. With some good patching, SFC III will be an excellent game. [Feb 2003, p.64]
-
The camera view still needs some work and a 3rd dimension would greatly enhance gameplay and combat but they still are saddled with a game that, in the end is boring.
-
Advanced players and long time fans of "Starfleet Battles" will rue the simplifications of the rule set, though the great sense of online community still remains.
-
The campaigns are too dry, too random, and the combat too long and thoughtful by half.
