All in all, if you love games like Goat Simulator, you’ll certainly have fun with Squirrel With a Gun, although the game does not surpass the legendary series.

Squirrel With a Gun is a quirky, hilarious and a memorable title that provides fun platforming and surprisingly innovative combat.

If a goat can run wild in a small town, why can't a squirrel? In the role of a small rodent, you will experience action, jumping and sometimes you have to think. Although the play area is small, it offers a variety of fun activities.

Puzzle-platformers are nothing new, but Squirrel with a Gun’s sandbox approach and jumping-shooting mechanics help it transcend the absurdist title. The game squirrels away a lot of fun and engaging gameplay that will surprise players not expecting the game’s variety and depth. All I know is, I’ll never look at our neighborhood squirrels quite the same way again.

Squirrel With A Gun has been a lot of fun. I detail the technical issues and the somewhat cheap looking visuals but the core game is solid and I think it’s worth your time. If you want a solid, small scale collectathon that will give you giggles, Squirrel With A Gun might be for you. This isn’t my game of the year, but I think it says something that this dorky concept made for a pretty fun experience. It’s not violent since there’s no blood, it’s not just that one joke, it’s trying to be a simple and fun game with some genuinely good game design choices. This was a good game with some rough edges and I think it’s worth your time. Or maybe you just read the deez nuts joke in the headline and expected that to set the tone for the review.

There are many words that can be used to describe Squirrel with a Gun: wacky, silly, buggy, unpolished, and fun. The premise is so out there that you can't help but be hooked. The gameplay is solid and enjoyable enough that you'll want to see the journey to the end and beyond, even if you've grown tired of the joke and despite the various issues that still plague the title. The game could do with some bug cleanup, but even in its current state, it's fun enough that players who love off-the-wall concepts would be happy giving this one a shot.

Squirrel with a Gun is a silly and crazy premise that equips a fuzzy rodent with a variety of weapons. There isn’t much of a story here, and it is very short, but it’s fun to play.

Although there is little story and no dialogue whatsoever, Squirrel With a Gun certainly has a sense of humour. Controlling a small furry rodent that can carry a rocket launcher and then produce bullet-time finishing moves with a variety of weapons is a heap of fun. Collecting each of the golden acorns and other collectibles effectively makes the game a 3D open-world platform puzzle game with a bad-ass, but adorable hero. The enemies are varied enough, the boss battles are reasonably challenging and the puzzles are designed to encourage exploration. And although the main game is on the short side, players can always head back and collect each of the collectibles that they missed along the way.

Squirrel With a Gun is more than just a jokey throwaway meme game, but in some ways this is its biggest downfall. There is so much potential in the central mechanics that is held back by floaty controls and so it falls between two stools. A little more refinement and this could have been a more solid experience, but as a joke it goes on too long. That being said, there is enough here to entertain if you can look past those control issues.

We certainly didn’t expect Squirrel with a Gun to be a high-quality masterpiece, but after playing it, we found some of its ideas so clever and fun that they left us with a bit of regret about the overall final result. It’s a project with a high level of nonsense, but it also genuinely shows how much the developers must have enjoyed themselves during its design and release. Enhanced by numerous unlockables and collectibles, the game is wild, delirious, and technically rough (at times unforgivably and frustratingly so). Yet, it’s this blend of mismatched characteristics that, at least partially, gives it a reason to exist in the market.

There's nothing funnier than a squirrels shoving nuts down his throat while shooting special agents in the face with a firearm and Squirrel With A Gun doubles down on that fact. Unfortunately, technical difficulties, wonky controls and hard crashes are doing a serious number on Dee Dee Creations' open-squirreled shooter.

Squirrel with a Gun is an awesome, immediately charming idea with legs as short as its fluffy protagonist. While platforming around by firing off weapons and causing mayhem in the small sandbox areas yields plenty of enjoyable moments, shallow combat, numerous technical issues, and short runtime left me wanting more. Even the over-the-top boss fights, which are definitely a high point in the zany adventure, come to an end all too quickly and are in short supply. I still adore this violent rodent and have high hopes for a sequel that’s bigger, more fleshed out, and less prone to crashing, but this first shot leaves a fair bit to be desired.

Squirrel with a Gun tries its best to be as fun and lighthearted as Goat Simulator and the like, but perhaps that's why it fails. For a short time after the first start, it's interesting to try to understand what we can do with our character, how destructive he can be, and how vast his arsenal is. However, this initial charge soon runs out due to unresponsive controls, the repetitiveness of the proposed situations, and some obvious gameplay limitations, such as the small size of the magazines. In short, with or without weapons, goats remain the undisputed masters of video game nonsense, once again.

Squirrel with a Gun has a janky charm, from its crazy attack animations to occasionally ridiculous physics-based challenges. The concept of a platformer where the player character is so tiny that their gun is used to propel them into the air is a clever one that I wish was used in a more enjoyable game. However, despite some occasionally fun challenges and crazy cutscenes, Squirrel with a Gun feels overstretched across its roughly eight-hour playtime, with an overall lack of technical polish that goes beyond funny and becomes frustrating to play. It isn’t bad overall and certainly has its fun moments (particularly the boss fights), but the bugs and general jankiness of the experience hold it back from reaching its full potential.

Squirrel With a Gun isn't aggressively bad, and I didn't hate my time with it. It was basically just a thing that I did for four hours. Nothing about the experience really stands out; the whole game is entirely unremarkable and won't live long in the memory. It's kind of like seeing a squirrel in real life. You go, "Oh look, a squirrel," watch the furry critter scurry up a tree, and then get on with your day. That's Squirrel With a Gun in a nutshell.
