While the first fleeting hours of Deathwing was enjoyable, the proceeding remainder of the game is dull, anti-climatic and uninspiring.

A really disappointing waste of the 40K license. [Issue#184, p.84]

Unfinished business from the technical point of view, but more importantly a boring adaptation of the board game. Pretty visuals can’t save its tiresome fights. [Issue #271]

Space Hulk: Deathwing could have been a thriller of a first person shooter, but instead sticks to mediocrity in terms of somewhat archaic mechanics and its boring focus on horde-killing.

While it captures the look and feel of a bleak sci-fi world, numerous quirks and bugs make Space Hulk: Deathwing a guilty pleasure at best. Playing cooperatively with a couple of buddies helps smooth over some of these problems, but regardless, combat remains incessantly tedious.

With its reliance on deeply confusing fluff and numerous bugs, Space Hulk: Deathwing is only for fans of Warhammer 40,000 who absolutely can't wait for a patch.

Clearly not a wholehearted recommendation for shooter aficionados then, but as a lifelong fan of Space Hulk who's been eagerly awaiting a 40k shooter that plays to the strengths of the lore rather than tries to fit the lore into the standard shooter template, I'd probably ignore my own advice and buy the game anyway.
  3. Part of me feels as though this is a brilliant, beautiful Space Hulk tech demo blown up and looped, and I’m not sure how long that can hold my interest. It’s a good time for a while, but for a long life its many rough edges need smoothing and more flesh needs adding to its bones.

I was super nervous about this game after hearing all the whining about the Beta. This game is awesome and as a 40k fan I can really feel all the love and care that went into the title. Don't listen to the haters, the extra week of development clearly helped A LOT. I can offer up an unqualified recommendation for it. If you like 40k, this game is pure gold.

Side note is that the game ran perfectly at high frame rates at the highest settings. Really not sure what people are complaining about.

However, the bugs are omnipresent. The framerate is horrible even when tuning down. The coop mode is a joke, no progression, no customization. I'm very disappointed and i expected a lot more. They released this game way too soon. It's simply not ready. Full Review »
