Absolutely amazing game, a surprisingly deep RPG that never disappoints.

They managed to deliver a solid and authentic South Park experience while also delivering a solid hardcore RPG experience.

Though your party keeps growing and as you learn new attacks or spells the combat gets boring close to the end. The humour though is spot on and much better than the last episodes of the actual series. One of the few times a TV show turned into a great video game. I should give only 7 points because of the combat, but the game is just so much fun.

This game is highly offensive and intolerant to certain minorities. The jokes are racist, insensitive, and in bad taste. I was shocked and appalled that after playing a few hours, I had to uninstall the game. 10/10

Como historia, es lo más brutal, descojonante, crudo, irreal, outstanding, inmersivo y anti-todo que he visto en mi vida.

It has been said that The Stick of Truth is like playing one fourteen hour episode of South Park. Over the course of the game, I was disappointed to discover that this game was a disordered collection of clips from old episodes mixed with decent gameplay, and perhaps a single episode's worth of new content. As a long-time fan of the series, the endless references grew tiresome.

I love South Park, which always been a series which has balanced profanity with profundity, but this game upsets this balance. The best example of this is that when outside of combat, your right-click is a fart button. It does not affect the environment in any way other than causing the person you farted on to say a line of dialogue.

The episodes leading up to this game's release were an excellent parody of Game of Thrones, so this (combined with my love for Obsidian) led me to believe this game would continue this trend, making it an RPG filled with story-altering choices. This was in no way the case, with only one choice you make even slightly altering the story. This, combined with every class being able to use the same weapons and equipment (with the exception of a few special abilities), makes for a game with limited replayability.

Now you might be thinking "Wait! This is an RPG, the main story doesn't matter! Side-quests were the star of Skyrim and Fallout!". Well, you're wrong. There are many side-quests in this game, but almost all of them are collectibles or fetch-quests, and even after completing all of these the game is perhaps 14 hours in length.

One of the most important things in RPGs is a sense of progression and power as your level increases, and while the player is rewarded for leveling up by receiving new special abilities, your enemies level with you so that you're always being challenged. While this may sound good on paper, it means that a feral dog you encounter in the woods after 12 hours of play gives you the same challenge it did the first time you encountered it, in spite of your new weapons and power.

On top of all of this, the game is an absolute mess on the PC. None of the controls can be altered, and the game has a war going on between the wsad and arrow keys. Walking around, wsad are used, but when scrolling through menus or doing certain special moves (i.e. Jimmy's sleep spell, goth dance) the arrow keys are required. The frame rate is limited to 30 FPS, and your only video option is to change the resolution. I experienced several bugs which required me to load an earlier save, mainly when using ally's special abilities. Luckily, there is an excellent autosave feature.

Now for the positive side of the review. The game looks exactly like a South Park episodes, with even the most unique special abilities being stylistically consistent with what we've come to expect from the series. The game exists somewhere between 2D and 3D, depending which part of the map you're in. While this normally causes no issue, certain parts of the game appear 2D but actually have a 3D entrance or exit.

In short, the Stick of Truth feels like a good $20 game, but does not have nearly the writing, length, or playability worthy of a $60 adventure. When it drops down to a reasonable price point, I encourage you to get it, provided you don't mind playing with a controller.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. From early on in the game, you realize that this game is definitely a South Park RPG - not an RPG that features South Park. The game plays much like older SNES RPGs (Mario RPG comes to mind) where battles do not start until your character touches a foe outside of battle in the South Park world.

You play as the "New Kid" or "Douchebag," as Cartman so lovingly puts. You pick between 4 classes (Warrior, Mage, Thief, and Jew). I played through with the Mage for my first playthrough, and it was truly an experience.

Between the magic, the "abilities," and "summons" you can earn, you have quite a bit of choice in how to attack the world head on.

When you first begin, you understand that the game world is the city of South Park. Throughout the game, you go to a couple of places that are featured in the South Park universe, but 90% of the gameplay is in South Park and the different buildings shown in the South Park show. You can enter most of the buildings and "loot" drawers and various cabinets in the kitchen, bathrooms, and bedrooms.

All of the RPG elements are here; you have a character that gains experience through the game that opens up ability upgrades. These range from attacks to buffs and open up stronger versions of those abilities. After you defeat enemies, you get consumables, equipment, and junk. 100% of these items are all references from the South Park Universe. Need some health? Have a Snacky Cake and some Cheesy Poof. Want to attack again in one turn? Have some of Tweek's Family Coffee. Want to up your attack and defense? That's right, BEEFCAKE. BEEFCAKE. "Junk" is used for nothing but earning money (which, in the end game, doesn't matter). I had over $900.00 by the time of the end of the game and I rarely bought anything. The equipment, while fun and interesting, is severely lacking. While each class has their "own" weapon, there are probably only 20 weapons in each genre (sword, wand, bow/thrown). What spices this up is the attachments that you can put on your weapons and equipment. These range from gaining PP (heh, PeePee) at the start of every turn, or ignoring enemy armor (which can be ridiculously high). With that being said, the equipment attachments are still lacking; much like the overall equipment pool that you can pull from.

Whereas some people have had glitches and problems playing the game, I only encountered one bug that happened during a cutscene where the sound didn't work. However, for the first hour of playing, my girlfriend's Thief character wasn't allowed to attack in the beginning fights (tutorial fights w/ Cartman). After restarting a couple times, it seems that her character is working perfectly now.

More content issues come from the variety of enemies. Aside from boss fights (which are very, very fun), you only fight the same 10 or 15 types of enemies (Elves, Humans, animals, etc). While all battles are fun and interesting because they can change on a dime, your character is pretty much unstoppable after level 9 (level cap being 16 for usefulness; nothing unlocks after 16).

The side quests are few and far between, but definitely an experience for the South Park fan. Among the magic and abilities, there are a couple of summoning items you can get for completing the side quests (e.g. Jesus, Kim Chee, Mr. Hankey). However, they cannot assist in boss battles and I didn't use them again outside of seeing the ridiculousness of the attack.

Where the game lacks content it makes up in technical mastery. Written by the duo behind the series, the storylines and the voice acting are among the best in the RPG genre. Of course, thankfully, with the graphics being taken directly from the show, the requirements to run this game on the PC are slim. 6gb install and you could run on a toaster (or the 360, hah) and I believe most of that 6gb is audio files because there is a TON of high-quality dialogue.

All in all, South Park: The Stick of Truth is an amazing experience for South Park fans. However, at the $60 pricepoint, the team at Obsidian and the publisher Ubisoft are asking too much for a game that only offers a good 15 hours of gameplay single-player. While there are collectibles (Chinpokemon, "friends" via Facebook in-game), there isn't a ton of content to play through more than once (unless you want to play through all 4 classes). I would definitely recommend this game to South Park fans, but if you're only a casual fan or a fan of RPGs, I would wait until the price comes down because it is a very niche' product - it's a South Park game, you much be a South Park fan to understand all of the references made throughout the game at lengths.

A great game with a few problems. The adherence to source material both in writing and presentation is top-notch. I have to salute Obsidian and SP Studios for making a game that looks just like being inside an episode of South Park. Nothing stands out as being "non-South Parky," all the animation and art is straight up South Park, but handled by a game engine. Pretty cool accomplishment!

The story is amusing and does its job at establishing the setting and plot while pushing the game toward its conclusion, but it felt less fresh to me after the "The Return of the Fellowship of the Ring to the Two Towers" episode and the "Black Friday" trilogy. I understand why they chose it though, it's an RPG and it makes sense to use those themes. Call it a personal bias - in a world as rich as South Park, I would have liked an RPG without elves and zombies, even if they're LARPed or Nazis. They're overused themes in videogames, even if done in parody.

The combat is alright. The humour in the boys' attacks is great. Their banter between turns and actions was a nice touch. Pretty standard JRPG turn-based combat, nothing revolutionary but fun to play and watch. I did feel like the level cap was too low. I hit max level long before the game ended which made fights less rewarding for two reasons: enemies other than bosses don't drop anything worthwhile and no level/stat progression through gaining XP. There should have been another 5 levels, then it would have felt more complete. Other than that it was pretty good.

Now for some negative things. Some of the tutorials are confusing or outright misleading, namely learning the fart attacks and the goth dance. The tutorials tell you to do actions that don't correspond to what you actually have to do. The entirety of the game is played with WASD, but for the goth dance you have to use arrow keys without anyone telling you to. The fart attacks say to alternately hold A and D, but you're supposed to tune a pointer to a specific frequency by tapping those buttons, not alternately holding them. This lead to some useless frustration that could have been avoided with better descriptions of what to do.

The game is WAY WAY WAY too easy. I'm pretty sure you can play through Hardcore without upgrading any perks, abilities or using equipment patches and it would still be a total breeze. This hurts replayability badly. There's only one tough fight in the game and it's not even the last boss.

The game is also way too short for the pricetag. It can be completed with all sidequests in around 15 hours, less for a more experienced playthrough. For $60 I was hoping for at least a 20-30 hour game. Like I mentioned before, it felt like it needed another 5+ levels, and it definitely could have used another 10 hours of content. $30 would have felt like a fairer price to me.

Overall, this game is a great experience and filled with Matt and Trey's patented humour. It's probably the best TV show to game adaption I've seen. It has faults, and the pricetag is high, but if you're a big South Park fan you'll want to pick this up sometime, maybe when it's a little cheaper.

The graphics are amazing, as it completely captures the essence of the show, it look great but also terrible because of how simple the show is created in the first place. I spent about 15 hours to complete the game, and I did most of the side missions I found, one could argue that it is a bit short for a game. And I do wish it was long, but the 15 hours was awesome, so it was well worth the price in my opinion.

The game was also almost bug free, which is surprising since it was made by Obsidian entertainment, which is knows for good games, but also very buggy games. But throughout my playtime I had only 2 bugs, one was a minor graphical bug in one cut-scene, and another I lost sound, but it fixed itself by restarting the game.

The attention to detail in this game is amazing, the amount of references and small touches all over, is just staggering. The fan service is truly great in this game, but can be a bit overwhelming I think, if you are not a fan of the series. Some of the shops and locations has music that is from the show, and other stuff to, like Team America. I just love small details like that in games, as it shows the passion behind the project.

Lastly I just want to say that this game is a great achievement, as it is one of the best or even THE best licensed game I have ever played. And not only that, in my opinion it is the best thing to have come from South Park so far. Because of this I just can't give this game anything else than a perfect score, as it did something I did not expect. It surpassed my expectations and it even surpassed the source material.

There's a good amount of the TV show character voices - you get to meet most of the cast, and they have 2-3 phrases they say, plus they can send you some messages on the in-game facebook equivalent.

Gameplay wise, this is a lite version of RPG, and while there's a lot of outfits you can wear, all of them are level locked, meaning that you cannot wear all the stuff you find, and after you level up, some stuff becomes totally useless.

In terms of combat mechanics, the game tries to be an action RPG, but kinda fails at it. You get to use skills and can tap some keys to make your skills better, you tap keys to block. There's armor, shield, maybe 8 different buffs and debuffs, but all of them feel rather extraneous, and even on hardcore mode, most bosses and enemies die in just a few rounds.

There's a fairly small number of side quests you can complete, and sometimes that requires the use of party members and their special abilities.

After a few hours, the gameplay gets repetitive, and the challenge disappears. This game is not worth the hype and 60$ price tag. Maybe for 20$ this would be a cool game to play over a weekend.

I'm not a hardcore South Park fan and have maybe seen three episodes in the last five years but I always enjoyed what it was, and that's, a cartoon with great humor that has survived the test of time. This show is on route of the Simpsons in terms of longevity and you either get why or you don't. I get why and the score reflects that.

The shows producers POURED their heart into this game and you can tell. The graphics are true to the shows style, the sound is taken from the cartoon characters perfectly, the music is a great medieval spin, and despite the fun shallow battles, there is clever strategy involved. You are very involved in the attacks where it can make the fight or end it for you; you don't just tap the button to get through the next attack. Defending is crucial.

The extras in this game are phenominal and this is complete fanfare. This was made for South Park fans and no cost was spared by the producers getting some of the best in the business to create this. It shows. Thank you gentlemen. I am glad you also told the developers to shut it in regards to releasing the game sooner and just put out what wasn't done yet as DLC. For that, I cannot wait to see what comes out further.

Bar none, the best cartoon license to videogame game ever created.

The controls can seriously get in the way at times (to those having frustration with learning the "spells", keep an eye on the little device that orbits the oval - this was completely non-obvious and frustrating to me until I saw it - and it's not very prominent at all. Later on, there's a dance you have to do with the goth kids that will fail 100% of the time until you realize you have to use the arrow keys instead of the WASD keys the way you play the rest of the game. I only had one quest completely fail on me and it was the first quest, so loading the most recent save point was pretty benign.

The entire experience is level-ramped, which means that whatever you encounter will be at the right level for you to find it challenging. The problem with rigorous level ramping is that it effectively ends up not mattering whether you level at all. Level ramping feels cheap in an RPG. The gameplay mechanics are very simple, and there is absolutely no replay value.

It ends up being mildly amusing, which is a real shame, because it starts off being hilarious. The plot is about four of the TV series plotlines stitched together, and it definitely feels like it. The plot ends up feeling like a checklist:" "Did we include aliens? Check. Crab people? Check. Mr. Slave's rectum? Check. The double-cross from the most recent episodes that led up to the release of this game? Check. Al Gore? Check.

If this were a $20 game, I'd feel it pretty much satisfies, but for $60, I expect a lot more depth, and I certainly don't expect level ramping.

This IS just like any South Park episode. Even better, feels like you are actually playing a whole season.
1001 reference, the poo/fart jokes and the clever ones. Every significant South Park character is in there,
all the original voices, Cartman, Cartman, Cartman and Douchebag.

To top it all, we are not getting a **** FPS like on N64 but a great RPG instead. Which means they can actually make the 2D effect just like the episodes.

on the cons side, 12-15 hours for a full 60$ digital price is a bit high. I guess you can bank up to 30 hours on a 2nd play a year later. (Even if the game is amazing, I really don't feel like redoing all again, since there is no new game+, I just doesn't feel the need for a 2nd play right away.)

The highest difficulty is recommended for any regular gamer or anyone that ever touched a RPG. After 3-4 hours, you'll rarely feel like you are in danger.

But considering the game is in fact, a very well made game that any South Park fan is gonna love, I'm ready to put sand on the Balance (Hours vs $).

Great job Ubisoft. Thanks for not releasing it before it was ready.
Great job Obsidian Entertainment. You should be proud.
Great job Matt Stone & Trey Parker. Lazy bastard stop playing video games and get on that 2nd SP movie!

The selection of weapons and stickers are large but unnecessary due to the incredibly short length of this game and youll never even use 3/4 of them sticking with the strongest weapon you have for a few levels or not finding weapons in the right order and being unable to use them or having them already be worthless. .
this game takes about 1 day to beat and has absolutely no replay value whatsoever other than maybe siding with one side or another and even then the jokes would wear thin and you'd have already seen much of it. overall. Way over hyped, underdone and lacking content/substance.

I've just finished the game, and it's the best game I've played in some time. But let's elaborate on that.

The first and most important thing to know is: if you have never watched the series, or you don't like it, there is not much for you there. sure, it is a very good game, but what glues everything together are the references, the classic jokes, and little details that can make a fan laugh out loud. (also, if you haven't watched south park for some time, at least watch the 15 and 16 seasons, as they give plenty of references for you to laugh a little harder).

Now, for the gameplay. Battles are turn-based, but almost every move you can use requires that you do something, like pressing a button at the correct time, or something like that. And don't be mistaken: you absolutely HAVE to be paying attention or you will most likely fail your attacks. Which is awesome, as it keeps battles more fast-paced.

Aside from battles, the game has some "adventure" moments, during which you have to solve little puzzles using you powers and objects from the world. These parts are also very cool, and lend a different tone to the game, which is awesome.

Now, for the plot... what can be said? I just don't know. I hadnt' felt this way since I watched the movie all those years ago, and it's the plot that made me play for 12 hours in a 2-day period, which is A LOT longer that I usually play any game. And 12 ours is without doing everything that can be done, and I'll start playing again tomorrow using another class.

So there you go. If you love south park, this is for you. Don't think, just play and fall in love with the game.
If you are neutral towards the series, and haven't really paid any attention to it, just watch seasons 15 and 16 (more if you can) and play it. It's awesome!
If you don't really like the series, there is really no point on playing, as this is basically a playable episode.

A very awesome, worth your money episode.

This game was made FOR the fans of the South Park franchise, if you are not a fan of the show, you won't enjoy it and I feel a majority of the complaints come from people who don't actually enjoy South Park that much; which presents an interesting question, if you aren't a fan of the franchise, why are you buying a game that is obviously designed to be a delight for the fans?

The game, story, characters and writing are all a delight. The turn based combat had me slightly concerned as it's a fairly old way to go about running a RPG, but it works out well by incorporating new, fresh and fair mechanics that allow you to fully enjoy it without ever feeling like it's a full time job to play.

Another complaint I feel that is entirely invalid is the complaint of the game's length. Many people have voiced complaints about the length of the game - this game isn't about the time spent, but the experience it presents as you play it. People complaining about the game's play time are simply trolls or jerks at best.

If you are a fan it's an amazing game to play, the perfect amount of time spent playing it and well worth the cost of admission.

The exact moment Eric said this is when I knew this was going to be fun game for me. Why? Because I love South Park. This game feels like another episode that is interactive. People who don't like the South Park series will not like this game because it is the only thing that stands out. The RPG system is very bland. There are no special mechanics that separate this RPG system from anything else. The mechanics of this game may be nothing special, however, the South Park atmosphere (ex. comedy, voices, characters) does make up for it.

Conclusion: Solely relying on the elements from the South Park series can not make me consider this as a great game. By only having this element, it narrows the audience of this game. I personally enjoyed this game, however, I will not consider it a solid game when it does not appealed to more than just its' fanbase. I give it a ~6.5-7.

South Park The Stick of Truth is an outstanding game for the cartoon lovers, it follows everything, the narrators, the movimentation, the black jokes, everything in the right places, the map of the city is equal of the cartoon, talking about how the game follows the original cartoon I give an easy 10 out 10.

The combat engine works really well, you will have a range weapon, a melee weapon, some magics and habilities and some cunsumable items, a real complete combat for an RPG game.

The Graphics is 2D based, but they are beautiful and pretty similar of the original cartoon, witch gives you a nice sensation of immersion in the game.

The History is genial, so creative, the jokes sometimes is awkward and sometimes is pretty funny, so the game have a nice balance betwen the RPG history and the jokes of the original cartoon. It has a initiation, a middle and an end, also it has an objective, the chase of the Sitck of Truth.

The costumization of the game is one of the strongest points in South Park, you have a lot of possibilities, many classes, weapons, armors, a complete costumization for a good RPG game.

    - Weak points:

But the game can't just follow correctly the cartoon, the game have some weak points, if you go in some parts of the map you litearly can't get out of there, you need to die for some enemies to spawn in a diferent place, witch is really awkward.

You get confused in the missions, the game isn't organized at all, you have the main missions mixed with the sidemissions, and sometimes when you need to see the map for know where the missions is you get really confused.

VEREDICT: South Park The Stick of Truth is a great RPG Game, is a great reproduction of the original cartoon, it mixes perfectly the RPG story and the poop jokes of South Park. The level desing and the graphics is so well made that sometimes you don't know if you're playing South Park or watching South Park, the immersion is great. But as nothing is perfect, the game game some confusing aspects and some confusing places in the map. A perfect 9 game!

A long time ago, there was a South Park game...well to be accurate, there were many South Park games, and they all were lackluster...as to say, that they sucked royally. None of them had the gravitas and depth that The Stick of Truth is inundated with. If you're a fan of the show consider this journey into Colorado the best experience besides seeing Bigger, Longer, and Uncut.

None of them had the gravitas and depth that The Stick of Truth is inundated with. If you're a fan of the show consider this journey into Colorado the best experience besides seeing Bigger, Longer, and Uncut.

The game is riddled with fanservice, from pictures of the kids doing their "shaka bro", to the costumes of "villains" like Professor Chaos. The little gems that they are, its clear to see why the game took so long to come out. Damn near everything in the game is made for a South Park viewer. You aren't just some kid exploring the "lands of South Park", you're a living, breathing entity that the kids will consider their friend. It's as much your world as it is theirs, and its felt.

The combat is reminiscent of Mario RPG, in which timed attacks and defense are part of the turn based action. However another added element is the ability to see the group your about to fight and either Stun them or hit them for the preemptive attack. That alone offers more flexibility than most current RPG's out, and makes combat actually fun to get into. The "special" attacks are exactly what you expect them to be, from the roshambo to the grand slam, the dark humor translates perfectly into the game, and none of it gets boring in the slightest.

This is the south park game we've all been waiting for, South Park fans or not. This game will keep you entertained and wanting more. The game is a clear example of what a dedicated team of developers and designers can give birth to. From the itemization to the varied customization, many developers of RPG's should take notice, this is how you make an RPG.

The quests add a nice touch to the pacing, as sidequests are placed perfectly, and don't interfere with your original goal. In fact, I was always expecting some random encounter with a familiar face wherever I went, and I wasn't disappointed. Even if you don't get a certain joke, with the accessibility of the episodes on the net, there is no excuse to be part of the humor.

My only gripe with the game is the length, and the lack of a new game + which I figured was going to be the problem to begin with, however if the DLC is anything like the main game, you can expect many hours of perusing through the South Park universe. Matt and Trey found their calling, Stick to RPG's and the fans will love you for it.

This game is a true work of art. It is absolutely flawless when it comes to making it look like the South Park we all know and love. For the first time ever I am going to say, this is a must play game.

The fights seem balanced, and the encounters are well spaced out.
The only down side to game is the fact it leaves fans begging for more. With a triple A price tag of 60 dollars, one would expect a bit more meat on the bones of this title. There is also the fact that the DLC that is promised is an Xbox exclusive leaves a bad taste in the mouth of PC fans. I guess if the big complaint is they leave you wanting more, it says that they did something right though.

That being said, the side quests and collectables do give it a replay value. I for one will be playing again, this time as the arch-type of ":Jew: instead of the standard mage, this time playing with more of a completest attitude.

A surprisingly fun and addictive RPG. Especially fun if you watched most of the south park seasons as there are tons of references and easter-eggs all over the game. You won't be disappointed!

"Stick Of Truth" is the real deal. Expand

The game excels in story, script, humor, and voice.

Game play is about average as a RPG game gets. There are 4 classes but other than some of the their magic abilities, there isn't too much of a difference between them. The level and gear system is pretty bland and basic. The UI also follow this route. If you aren't a South Park fanatic you will probably see A TON of wholes in

South Park will probably go down as one of the best licences movie / tv show game of all time. Right behind the newer Batman series.

Simply put; if you're a South Park fan you will love this game. If you aren't a South Park fan, then it's entirely passable. The highlights of this game are the artwork, voice-acting, callbacks to the history of South Park and the surprisingly deep turn-based combat system. It's probably the funniest game I've ever played and the best TV to game adaptation.

This game is simply awesome. It's long long ago since I had as much fun with another game. The Gameplay is kinda like Paper Mario, but fits perfectly into the "South Park Universe". Thanks to Obsidian!

The Story is weird, full of **** and hilariously funny. But still it is very exciting, you always want to know what happens next and it's fun to collect all those crazy Items, upgrade

I never had as much fun in a turn based combat system as in The Stick of Truth, the attacks and skills are insane.

If you are a South Park Fan, go and buy it. If you don't like South Park at all, this won't be your game.

    Don't fart on anybody's balls.

The game is a total "Wow". A good addition for south park fans and also for the gamers too.
Sick, fun addictive and hilariously awesome. Some of the in-game phrases I personally liked very much are :-
    - Die a**hole!!!
    - Rock, Paper, Nuts (simply epic)
    - we will kill you with compassion

This game is Oustanding. My first thought was, What?! $60 for a game about poop jokes? But No, I haven't had this much fun in an RPG since the Original Pokemon, and that's what this game keeps reminding me of, with the added fun of the ENTIRE South Park universe. The Combat is turn based, and s executed in a fun and engaging way, there is no waiting for the enemy to take their turn, you're constantly engaged with attempting to block enemy attacks and countering.

For the first hour I just looked through Cartmans house, Played the "taking a **** minigame, then playing with his moms ****

South Park: The Stick of Truth is the best game in "years"....and it's better than the show. Wonderful world, story, gameplay. I rarely give a 10 out of 10. No game can get close to South Park: The Stick of Truth!

I didn't expect anything from this South Park RPG, but The Stick of Truth is one of the best license games ever made. It's as obnoxious as the TV series, as it should be. The script is made with love and the RPG elements fit in to the franchise like a glove. [March 2014]
