    South Park and the Stick of Truth is a fairly traditional JRPG. You are the New Kid, a… new kid in the town of South Park. You are quickly recruited by the children of South Park in a make-belief roleplaying game involving beating each other with fake weapons.

    The titular Stick of Truth is a stick which is said (in the game in the game) to grant its wielder control over space and time.    South Park and the Stick of Truth is a fairly traditional JRPG. You are the New Kid, a… new kid in the town of South Park. You are quickly recruited by the children of South Park in a make-belief roleplaying game involving beating each other with fake weapons.

    The titular Stick of Truth is a stick which is said (in the game in the game) to grant its wielder control over space and time. It doesn’t; it is just a stick.

    But that doesn’t stop the kids from fighting over it.

    The game is more or less designed to be an episode of South Park, though it is obviously vastly longer than any episode. The game revolves around the characters of South Park, and their struggle after a UFO crashes in town and a government conspiracy targets both South Park and the New Kid for destruction, all while the kids play their game and somehow fight off aliens, zombies, and the US government in the process.

    The game’s core attraction is its branding and story; the game shows South Park’s standard quality of humor, for better or for worse. The characters have lots of funny things to say, and the interactions between the main characters – Stan, Kyle, Cartman, Kenny, and Butters – are all pretty fun. Pretty much every major character from the show makes at least a brief appearance, and Stan’s dad plays a fairly substantial role in the plot.

    That said, while the game can be funny, it also is extremely crude. While South Park is often crude, the game revels in its crudity. The protagonist’s “magic” is his farts, Cartman’s own “spells” are his farts, there is an enormous amount of scatological humor, one of the standard status ailments (which many characters will inflict every battle) causes enemies (or allies, if you’re struck with them) to vomit, the protagonist can **** his pants if he eats too many burritos (which restore your mana)… the list goes on. While ordinarily this would be more of a side thing, this plays a central role in the plot, and using your farts in the world is a major aspect of gameplay. The game also features a visit to the abortion clinic (in a sequence which crosses the line twice), Nazi zombies, full frontal nudity (non-sexual – in fact, deliberately offputting), and a trip up Mr. Slave’s ass. There are a lot of references to sex (though the kids don’t really seem to get them) and, of course, copious amounts of swearing.

    The overall plot itself is kind of nonsense, but it is deliberately so – the kids are making up a plot, while random, weird stuff goes on in town around them. Of course, it is possible that some amount of it is taking place in the children’s imagination, and it isn’t always clear how much of what is going on is real, and how much of it is the game within the game.

    Frankly, this game doesn’t have much for you if you aren’t a fan of South Park, and even if you ARE a fan of the show, if you aren’t a fan of crude humor, this still might be offputting. If you aren’t a fan of the show, this game probably holds little for you, and if you’re easily offended, or don’t like scatological humor, you definitely don’t want to touch this.

    The actual gameplay itself is hit and miss. Actual combat is pretty dull; while early on it is quite difficult, after you’ve gained a few levels and gotten some equipment it becomes progressively easier, until by the end of the game you’re often curbstomping the enemies so quickly they don’t even get the chance to attack. You get summons which can instantly end non-boss battles which just don’t end up being worth using because all of those battles are over so fast, they just don’t have any purpose. Even the bosses are weaklings; most of the bosses can be eliminated in 1-2 rounds of combat, and even the final boss goes down in fairly short order.

    The out of combat stuff is actually okay. You have eight abilities which allow you to interact with the environment in various ways, and they’re used to solve various simple environmental puzzles. While it isn’t anything amazing, it can influence the battles and also allows for a bit more variety than just “run down the halls into combat.” The environmental interaction makes the game feel much more interactive, and without it, I doubt it would even be all that interesting to play. Alas, bypassing the battles is mostly pointless, seeing as they’re so easy anyway, but still, there’s some feeling of satisfaction in taking out every enemy with the scenery when it is possible to do.

    The game is full of sidequests which serve to get the New Kid to wander around town and do more stuff, adding friends on the in-game facebook and gathering equipment and cosmetic items to change your character in-game. Ultimately, though, the game is pretty short; the core story just isn’t very long, so unless you do everything, the game itself is likely to end up being only a bit over 10 hours long. Even 100%ing it as I did stretched it only to about 21 hours of gameplay, and frankly, at that, it was too long.

    It's a great... South Park cartoon episode. It's as simple as that - the license and a good scenario made of everything that appeared in SP cartoons make this game noticeable. If not the SP paint all over it, no one would even know such game exists.
    Because the game is awful and by its nature doesn't deserve any price tag at all. There were more compelling flash games on Newgrounds back    It's a great... South Park cartoon episode. It's as simple as that - the license and a good scenario made of everything that appeared in SP cartoons make this game noticeable. If not the SP paint all over it, no one would even know such game exists.

    Was great fun when I started, grew tedious in a hurry. I'm a 40 year old South Park fan, and even then still had trouble with the grossness and profanity. Really can't say it's 6x more fun than Goat Simulator.

Fans of the TV show series will enjoy that the transistion between show to game has not changed. The writing is still the crude humor watchers have grown up with, seeing as though Matt and Trey worked on this you know it's going to be dirty.

    Why is it not a perfect score or an 8 or higher?
    First off: It's short. Im talking like 10 hours of gameplay. Dont get me wrong Ive enjoyed all 10 hours I was playing it. But it was really short. I wasn't expecting to put as much time in it as I did with Dark Souls or Skyrim. I hoped I'd be close but no where near. With little decisions to be made to change the ending, there is no real replay value unless you wanna try and snag all the friend requests/Chinpokomon/Side Quests.
    Second: For a game with such simple graphics I encountered quite a few blips. During cut scenes my character would just vanish at times. So NPCs were talking to no one. As well, at the very end, the whole group of guys disappeared during a cutscene leaving only Jimmy in the background looking like the game's video froze.

    It's a pretty good game. $60 worth? Not at all. I would have waited until the price drop if I wasn't so amped to play this. Again it's not a bad game, I loved when the game took us to Canada or going to Tom's Rhinoplasty to look like the Hoff.
    If you love South Park and RPGs and dont mind $60 then by all means go for it. and have fun. If you only like one of the two wait for a price drop    … Expand

    Obsidian did a really great job on interaction/cutscenes, very fluid and seamless. Combat is very enjoyable and if you're JRPG fans, you;ll probably feel at home with its turn-based Final Fantasy-like combat. And there're tons of unpredictability within this game, and if you're some sort of achievement, perfectionist hunter, this game will keep you busy for awhile.

    $60 is a bit too much asking price if I may say. It''s very SHORT. Finished it within 2 days (about 20 hours or so) and there aren't much replayability after you finish the game.

    If you like video games and South Park then The Stick of Truth is an easy reccomendation and a worthwhile purchase. It's essentially a lite-RPG which plays like an extremely long episode of South Park. Though as a game there isn't a lot that is great about it. It's an average RPG with a very good South Park paint job. This is the South Park game you've been waiting for, but not theIf you like video games and South Park then The Stick of Truth is an easy reccomendation and a worthwhile purchase. It's essentially a lite-RPG which plays like an extremely long episode of South Park. Though as a game there isn't a lot that is great about it.     Feels like being in the series, playing while watching if you can put it that way. Its fun when you start playing the game ,but after 1-2 hours it kinda gets boring, in my opinion, i did 75% of the game, and i quit. Its good, but it lacks at the end...

    It`s hard not to be torn by The Stick of Truth. It is a relatively terrible (J)RPG, with simplistic combat, redundant gear and upgrades, illogical and (temporarily) game breaking mini games, no meaningful class distinctions and more farts than have been in all previous video games combined. Despite all of this you just have to keep playing so you can see it all, and you so want to love itIt`s hard not to be torn by The Stick of Truth. It is a relatively terrible (J)RPG, with simplistic combat, redundant gear and upgrades, illogical and (temporarily) game breaking mini games, no meaningful class distinctions and more farts than have been in all previous video games combined. Despite all of this you just have to keep playing so you can see it all, and you so want to love it you forget to even look for what you would normally look for in an RPG. It is offensive, crude and hilariously funny for 15 hours or so, with hundreds of references to the show, all the familiar characters and a funny plot running through it.
    Exploring the map of South Park was a rare joy, so much so that I regularly forgot what it was I was supposed to be doing. There are a lot of puzzles to do, hidden stuff to find, many side quests and collectables to look for, mini games and a perk system of character upgrades linked to the amount of friends you can get on Facebook. Almost everything is a blast on the first play through and the writing up to the usual SP standards. For me the highlight comes early, when Cartman gives you the option of playing either a wizard, a warrior, a thief or a Jew. If only this choice made any difference...

    But it does not. You get four abilities depending on what you choose, but everything else stays the same. And since you are basically perma OP anyway you could probably squeak by without even using most of them. This also makes the combat repetitive and mostly boring, weirdness aside, and it also makes gear almost entirely cosmetic, since you don`t really need it. Some of the mandatory mini games are also amazingly poor and either broken or so poorly translated from Xbox they are essentially impossible to pass, unless you look them up online to discover that the instructions you`re given are misleading, to say the least. Without this help I would have gotten stuck somewhere in the middle and been very annoyed.
    It is a shame that the gameplay doesn`t quite match the quality of the design, writing and satire, in what is in essence an open world South Park not missing a thing from the TV show. But when the best part is exploring the town and talking to all the characters we`re not dealing with a very good game in itself.

    So in conclusion, The Stick of Truth is a must for anyone who likes South Park and is basically a season of content all by itself. It can not be recommended to RPG fans though, unless they also like South Park. And after you`re done with it you`re done, since there is basically no replay value at all.    … Expand

    It's a decent game. I think the glamour of a real life South Park game gave it an inflated score. It is pretty fun, and somewhat funny, but not as funny as it was portrayed by other reviewers. Some of the gameplay mechanics are flawed. Also, you collect a lot of useless junk items that serve no purpose other than to be sold, it's quite pointless.     Nice game UBI made, here. It's the kind they should have always been making from the start instead of these FPS games like FC2, FC3 and such. It's not worth the $60 however. It's more fit for a size $25

    It makes a great turn base and the gameplay is what it should be for it's taste/kind. From how far I made it, all characters and sayings and such are all in the game. It's nice to see someone still cares about the whole south park in game, like from the first south park game made over 10 years ago.

    I give it a 9/10 awesome job on this one UBISOFT

    3/10/14 Update:
    After finishing up the game and seeing what all I had left to be done. I would like to update my review. The game has too much sexual content like characters showing off their privates. The game is mainly about farting because its the only way to beat it plus its a high attack ratting. It's funny but after five hours of seeing it / hearing it, it gets old. There's a mission or two where it requires jimmy and when he starts to talking, he can't stop studdering and the player cannot skip through it so it's like listening to a broken record player. Uses same jokes more than 10 times.

    I was beginning to think it was going to be worth atleast $30 but now i don't think its even worth 20

    Mainly my biggest gripe is the saving. I willl save my spot in the game and it refuses to save right where I am at. I am pretty sure this has nothing to do with my computer, and I hope this is patched soon. If you try to save in an exact spot it will only let you save where you were at your last    While I did enjoy this game and I do recommend it...it does have some obvious flaws.

My roomate tried starting a new game and it does let you have multiple save files but even though i never saved over his file it will magically dissapear, so I think there is some issues technically with the saving system. I will say this is more of an issue if you are sharing the game with a friend or you wanted to create another character but keep your old game.

    The fighting system has some minor snags. The time the "block" icon comes up and when you push the buttons on a hooked up controller, has delay so pretty much just block when something makes contact don't pay attention to the block icon. You just have the time things yourself which is fine but it's irritatiing to have the icon even in the game if you'll never pay attention to it.

    I beat the game on normal difficulty but I highly suggest lowering the difficulty to casual for your first playthrough so you can just enjoy the story and have fun. It gets quite difficult at the very end and instead of laughing with the game I was kind of just glad it was over because of how frustrating the final boss is.

    The story is the glowing part of this game. You will see many characters some you may have not thought about in a long time. I don't want to go too into it, but I will say it's an overall good story. I will be honest and say the ending is not as good as it could have been in a sense that I felt very little pay off for beating the final boss at the end of the main story. It wasn't awful, it was even decent but I think it could have been (should have been) way more over the top like the rest of the game was. A boss fight in the middle of the game is way more of a shocking and interesting moment then the last boss is. I think that's a flaw.

    Anyways I'm glad I played the game and I don't want to come off the wrong way but I did have some issues with it that brought me out of the game. Again lower the difficulty on the first play. Overall I'd give technical parts of the game a 7 and the story an 8 so overall a 7.5 is fair I think. I'd also wait to buy it until it goes on sale unless you just have 60 dollars to drop like I did.     A great game with a few problems. The adherence to source material both in writing and presentation is top-notch. I have to salute Obsidian and SP Studios for making a game that looks just like being inside an episode of South Park. Nothing stands out as being "non-South Parky," all the animation and art is straight up South Park, but handled by a game engine. Pretty cool accomplishment!A great game with a few problems.     The story is amusing and does its job at establishing the setting and plot while pushing the game toward its conclusion, but it felt less fresh to me after the "The Return of the Fellowship of the Ring to the Two Towers" episode and the "Black Friday" trilogy. I understand why they chose it though, it's an RPG and it makes sense to use those themes. Call it a personal bias - in a world as rich as South Park, I would have liked an RPG without elves and zombies, even if they're LARPed or Nazis. They're overused themes in videogames, even if done in parody.

    The combat is alright. The humour in the boys' attacks is great. Their banter between turns and actions was a nice touch. Pretty standard JRPG turn-based combat, nothing revolutionary but fun to play and watch. I did feel like the level cap was too low. I hit max level long before the game ended which made fights less rewarding for two reasons: enemies other than bosses don't drop anything worthwhile and no level/stat progression through gaining XP. There should have been another 5 levels, then it would have felt more complete. Other than that it was pretty good.

    Now for some negative things. Some of the tutorials are confusing or outright misleading, namely learning the fart attacks and the goth dance. The tutorials tell you to do actions that don't correspond to what you actually have to do. The entirety of the game is played with WASD, but for the goth dance you have to use arrow keys without anyone telling you to. The fart attacks say to alternately hold A and D, but you're supposed to tune a pointer to a specific frequency by tapping those buttons, not alternately holding them. This lead to some useless frustration that could have been avoided with better descriptions of what to do.

    The game is WAY WAY WAY too easy. I'm pretty sure you can play through Hardcore without upgrading any perks, abilities or using equipment patches and it would still be a total breeze. This hurts replayability badly. There's only one tough fight in the game and it's not even the last boss.

    The game is also way too short for the pricetag. It can be completed with all sidequests in around 15 hours, less for a more experienced playthrough. For $60 I was hoping for at least a 20-30 hour game. Like I mentioned before, it felt like it needed another 5+ levels, and it definitely could have used another 10 hours of content. $30 would have felt like a fairer price to me.

    Overall, this game is a great experience and filled with Matt and Trey's patented humour. It's probably the best TV show to game adaption I've seen. It has faults, and the pricetag is high, but if you're a big South Park fan you'll want to pick this up sometime, maybe when it's a little cheaper.    … Expand

    The exact moment Eric said this is when I knew this was going to be fun game for me. Why? Because I love South Park. This game feels like another episode that is interactive. People who don't like the South Park series will not like this game because it is the only thing that stands out. The RPG system is very bland. There are no special mechanics that separate this RPG system from anything else. The mechanics of this game may be nothing special, however, the South Park atmosphere (ex. comedy, voices, characters) does make up for it.

    Conclusion: Solely relying on the elements from the South Park series can not make me consider this as a great game. By only having this element, it narrows the audience of this game. I personally enjoyed this game, however, I will not consider it a solid game when it does not appealed to more than just its' fanbase. I give it a ~6.5-7.    … Expand

    The story and humor was great if you were already a south park fan. the gameplay lacked some challenge to say the least, it was fun to get through the story but honestly didn't see the point in making it into a game rather then just make an episode or a movie.

    If you are a South Park fan like me, this is a must buy. It's like being in the most disgusting, offensive and funny episode ever!

    The score is only 7 because it is very short and the combat is quite easy even on hard core.

    Great game if you like south park would give it 10/10. But with out the aspects from the series i cannot give it that high a score. It's RPG elements are a bit old and slow. All the special attacks take a rly long time to cast. As an RPG a 5/10 so i settle somewhere in between.

    Mediocre and not worth 60$. This game plays like a point and click adventure set within South Park. You can go through people's houses and find mementos from the TV show episodes. Stuff like sarcastaball trophy, and each one of these items has a description.     There's a good amount of the TV show character voices - you get to meet most of the cast, and they have 2-3 phrases they say, plus they can send you some messages on the in-game facebook equivalent.

    Gameplay wise, this is a lite version of RPG, and while there's a lot of outfits you can wear, all of them are level locked, meaning that you cannot wear all the stuff you find, and after you level up, some stuff becomes totally useless.

    In terms of combat mechanics, the game tries to be an action RPG, but kinda fails at it. You get to use skills and can tap some keys to make your skills better, you tap keys to block. There's armor, shield, maybe 8 different buffs and debuffs, but all of them feel rather extraneous, and even on hardcore mode, most bosses and enemies die in just a few rounds.

    There's a fairly small number of side quests you can complete, and sometimes that requires the use of party members and their special abilities.

    After a few hours, the gameplay gets repetitive, and the challenge disappears. This game is not worth the hype and 60$ price tag. Maybe for 20$ this would be a cool game to play over a weekend.    … Expand

    This game is a very good episode of South Park. BEWARE OF THIS: If you don't like South Park, or you are not a somehow hardcore follower with hour invested on the tv-show, it would be unlikely that you will like this game at all.

If you're playing on PC, just wait until it goes on sale for $20 or less, as that's around where the value of the content is. My other complaint is that the size and scope of South Park is too small. The South Park map is the size of a small neighborhood, which is underwhelming for an RPG. I know I'm being a bit harsh. but the game is being sold as a full retail game, so the bar is set a bit higher as a result.… Expand

    It really does stay true to South Park, but if you're looking for something original or new, or a quality RPG experience, stay away. If you'd like a trip down memory lane... Get it (unless you're bad at games).

    I am just a casual gamer who is not a fans to the series. The combat and equipment system is quite interesting with variations for different player style. The story is funny as well.

    The only flaws are the high frequency of button mashing, misleading tutorial on the magic learning process, short game time (10 to 15 hours ) and low replay value.     If only it were longer (main story took me 8 hours, with most of the side quests I've still not added more than 4 or so hours to that) and less buggy. I had to reload my save a few times due to character flickering or totally disappearing. I also think some of the controls were poorly implemented to pull off attacks (some I found near impossible to get perfect on pc).     The game is extremely fun and has an interesting combat system, it's just WAY too easy! I played on hardcore difficulty and had very little problem defeating the opponents. Especially later in the game, the special moves are way too powerful. Would be a 9+ if designers bothered balancing the game better.

    Very enjoyable game. Good combat mechanics. Graphics and story line in true South Park maner. However once you beat it there isn't much to do afterwards.

    Funny game with references to the old series. Sometimes I had the feeling that this is not a game, but a cartoon. People who have not watched the South Park series will not understand the humor. Other will have fun and remember the old series.

    If you're a hardcore South Park Fan, add an extra point: the game is definitely one of the most faithful games to a franchise I've ever played. Otherwise, if you're an Obsidian Entertainment fan hoping for something deep and meaningful (without jokes about someone's anal cavity), you'll have to look elsewhere.

    Visually it's as close as the TV show as you can get.
    Voices are of course the same as the series and great.
    Jokes although not new, still funny.

    Cons:
    The fighting mechanism is so bad I would have preferred just not having any fighting at all.
    Nothing new, almost every joke is just a reference to something that happened in the TV show.

    I didnt enjoy that game much. Sure, the beginning is very funny, because the story is funny. But then the boring and arcade gameplay is taking part and the game cant hide their weak sides. The saving system is frustrating too, because it is not free. In addition the graphics is extremely low. After few hours I deinstalled and played another RPG....a real RPG ;)

    Game is great for parties but there's not enough content to be considered amazing.

    The main draw of the game is the voice-over and story, which you'll see and hear all of within a day. Most people will probably finish the game around 6-10 hours.

    okay this game is very fun to play and a lot of hilarious moment , but with 59.99 $ Price Tag the game should be playable (a lot of side quest) even the main quest finish.... , the game still great though it's just very easy too finish.....

    If you are a southpark fan, this game have lots of things to offer you. Funny scenario, interesting missions and characters etc.. But unfortunately this is not a game, this is an interactive movie which only may satisfy southpark fans. If you ar a southpark fan my score is 9 if not it is hardly 6.

    Solid game. Little expensive for the content you get. Fun for one play through. Some replayability i suppose if you want to try a different class but only found 1 class to be much fun personally. Some really good jokes as you would expect, but also some really bad/go way to far jokes that you should also expect.

    It's a fine JRPG, but it's very repetitive, and everything is so tedious and takes ages, and you're sort of drowning in worthless junk along the way, and the story is so simplistic that once you've played through the game, there's no joy in it.

    South Park: The Stick of Truth manages to please even someone who is neither a turn-based RPG nor a South Park fan, and that says a lot about this hilarious but fun RPG dished out by Ubisoft.

    While the RPG elements is quite simple, the creativity applied during development is what makes this something to check out, especially if it's on a huge sale.

The story was what to be expected from south park, but in a few parts it felt like it was trying too hard. Most of the quests have the same structure and were somewhat boring.     I didn't expect anything from this South Park RPG, but The Stick of Truth is one of the best license games ever made. It's as obnoxious as the TV series, as it should be. The script is made with love and the RPG elements fit in to the franchise like a glove. [March 2014]
