Almost everything else though is the same. All the same levels, bosses, songs, etc are there. Buying Sonic lost world on PC allows access to the Nights Nightmare level which is also on Wii U if you pre-ordered it. What the Sonic Lost World PC port does't have is the Yoshi's Wooly World and Zelda DLC maps for obvious reasons. The ability to listen to sonic lost worlds great soundtrack and not having to have headphones pluged into the gamepad makes it more enjoyable. Overall it's slightly better than the Wii U version. It doesn't change much but it runs better than the Wii U version. Just a tip for people playing it for your first time, don't play the Nights map first because it has variations of all the boss finals besides the final bosses. Also don't go for red rings unless there in your way because some are very hard to get. Use a controller, Keyboard to high speed percision platforming is very hard and not worth the pain. I used the steam controller which works very well with this game. A xbox 360 controller will work as well.

Sonic Lost World is perhaps one of the most mediocre video games I have ever played. That is not to say it is the worst; that is to say it is the most mediocre. The game suffers from a large number of problems, but is not quite bad enough to say it is horrible. That being said, it is not a game I could recommend to anyone.

So what is wrong with it?

Sonic Lost World is a 2D/3D sonic game – some levels are 2D, others are 3D, and some go between the two.

The game borrows very heavily in its 3D sections from Mario Galaxy – many such sections are on small planets, others are in tubes that you run on the inside of, and still others are otherwise reminiscent of Mario Galaxy’s more linear segments (though all segments are very linear – Sonic is very much a character who goes in one direction). Unfortunately, this is done with very little grace, and very few of the levels are well-designed, with many of them feeling very much like a hodge-podge – a problem that Super Mario Galaxy 2 also had, but to a lesser extent. A lot of Sonic Lost World levels are really not designed very well and just feel off while you’re playing them.

This is laid on top of the controls. As always, Sonic is slidey. Sonic has never been the easiest character to control, but this game at times expects precision platforming – a very frustrating thing. You can do this, once you get acclimated to Sonic, but that takes more than half the game – and you will be miserable until you do.

And frankly, even after you get used to him, you still won’t be happy. The game probably reaches its nadir in the fourth zone, the Frozen Factory, which is full of icy sections which make Sonic even harder to control (oh boy!), and a lot of this part of the game is miserable.

Adding to all this are the many gimmick levels. The Frozen Factory has a casino, which comes with… a pinball machine which you have to solve to move onwards. The first one isn’t too bad, but the second one (which earns you a red ring for completing it) is a four layer pinball machine and is very hard to solve, especially given that this is the only level in the game which uses the mechanic.

There are other gimmick levels as well – there’s also a level where Sonic is instead a snowball, making him even less controllable. There are numerous “run constantly” levels, including a couple of rail levels, the latter of which is very difficult and shows that just because you can copy Donkey Kong Country doesn’t mean that you should.

Most people drop this game within a few levels. Tellingly, there are 100 achievements, they’re all pretty easy to get, but most of them have less than 2% completion. This is because most people recognize the game for the stinker it is and bail quickly.

That said, the game is not wholly awful; there are some moments and some levels which are decent. The last two zones of the game are full of interesting levels, and really only one level (the rail level) is weak, and even that is okay. The game is also chock full of bosses, and unlike many games which have so many bosses, this game has them perform differently every time you face them. They aren’t even remotely similar in most cases to their previous patterns, which is pretty cool, and given that every second level has a boss, that’s something to often look forward to.

The problem is that while the bosses are interesting, that’s about all the game has for the most part; while there are a few good levels, they’re mostly clustered at the end of the game, and going through the tedium of the rest of it to get to “okay” levels is just not worth it.

The game also has an item system (with a limited inventory space!) – you gain items by completing achievements (and you can only complete three at a time) and you use them for a one-time boost. These items are mostly useless, but a few of them (in particular the shield and the invincibility) are handy. Sadly, you have a limited inventory for no reason, and the whole thing is pretty pointless to begin with – the game simply isn’t hard enough to justify the use of items for the most part, and the parts which are hard are generally hard because you’re dying due to falling off the map/into lava/ect.

Frustratingly, the game makes use of a wall running mechanic which works terribly; not only is it difficult to control and use in most cases, with lots and lots of jumps that result in you stopping your wall run and jumping straight up over a bottomless pit, resulting in your death, but it also tries to activate a lot on stair-step portions of levels, requiring you to navigate those portions more slowly or end up constantly getting caught on the scenery. This just adds further clunkiness to the control scheme, which is often not very well documented in-game to begin with – there were numerous things I only discovered via trial and error, and until I found out what I was doing “wrong”, I was getting pretty annoyed with Sonic not doing what I wanted him to do.

    Avoid this game.

I do not understand why everyone says this game wrong. I really liked the level design, the enemies and the challenges. I confess that it is more for a Sonic Galaxy than something else, however the game is very original without losing the essence of the hedgehog.

    - PC Port improves on controls

No longer do you have to hold down the trigger for parkour moves, simple tap and your good to go, even though I unusually hold it down, it saves my butt if I let go accidentally, all around its very tight.

Gone is the motion and touch controls, now with simple button input with responsive actions. I always felt that was one of the main problems with lost world and having an actual controller for the run mechanic makes a world of difference, I just simply hold the trigger, very natural.

    - Better integrated items and interface.

In the WiiU version you had to fiddle with the "Suitcase" in order to use items in-game, having to look down and away from the game to tap on your gamepads screen, The "Suitcase" will open than you'd tap the item you want to use. I've never used Items as a result of this... however all of that has changed.

Now just hold down the left analog stick and it pops right up! already open while you play, just select your items and you're good to go, simple, unlike the WiiU Version.

Once you obtain an item after you complete a stage it goes straight to your Suitcase, no more unnecessary "are you sure?" "wanna post to Miiverse" while having the A and B buttons reverse which you can easily be stuck there for while if your not paying attention.

Interface is nice and simple, basic pause menu with options for audio, video etc. Its nice being able to change those things in game without having to do it at launch, changing the shadows, depths of field, grass, resolution.

I finally got the chance to play "Sonic Lost World" which was a Wii U exclusive for over two years. It's a solid game, but I kind of wish it had more original level themes and the music could be slightly better. My computer isn't that fast, but the game runs at a decent enough speed for me. Also, this game is two years old and SEGA still hasn't fixed a bug where Super Sonic has two mouths.I finally got the chance to play "Sonic Lost World" which was a Wii U exclusive for over two years. Pros
+Level design and art design looks like Super Mario Galaxy/Super Mario 3D World, very appealing
+Gameplay style is similar to Generations where part of the game is 2D Sonic style and the other part is 3D Sonic style
+A storyline with CG cutscenes and fully voiced characters
+Item usage which allows you to get rings, extra lives or shields
+Wisps allow you to use special abilities which alter the gameplay
+Nightmare DLC available with the game
+Contains all content from the WiiU version (minus the Nintendo DLCs)
+60 FPS and higher resolution support compared to the 3DS and WiiU versions

    Cons
    -Game is short
-Game can be tedious in difficulty at times when it comes to some level designs
-Bosses are too easy and battles are too short
-Some parts of the game put you in situations where it would have been better if explained via a tutorial otherwise it takes a few times to figure out a part where you would get stuck
    -3DS version wisps are missing
-Lacks the Zelda and Yoshi DLCs that the WiiU version had
-Multiplayer mode from the WiiU version is not included in this version
-Although the game recommends a controller , the map menu requires you to use the mouse as there are no buttons to select the icons (due to the fact that the game was on the WiiU and the gamepad touchscreen was its main control for the map screen
-The L3 stick is used to open up the item menu, which can in some cases open up while you are moving and accidentally clicking on it, which stops Sonic in movement

The cutscenes are unwatchably inane, but at least skippable. Graphics are that modern Mario-esque brightly colored and bland. No physics to speak of.

    GAMEPLAY/MECHANICS:2
Controls are AWFUL. In a game that depends on lightning-fast twitch reflexes, that is a very bad thing.
The worst part is the homing attack, which is triggered by pressing "jump" whenever the automatic lock-on randomly decides it feels like locking on. Often when you want to double jump the game will auto-lock on and homing-attack instead, causing you to die. Often when you want to homing attack, the game will refuse to lock on and double-jump instead, causing you to die. More than half my deaths were due to the uncooperative controls instead of my reflexes. Why not just have a dedicated homing-attack button, as would be OBVIOUS to anyone who played the game for 10 minutes?
Additionally, there's a second homing attack with the "X" button that arbitrarily is the only attack that works on some enemies, but will not work on the standard enemies. This does nothing to make the game more fun, and it becomes aggravating because there is absolutely no visual indicator distinguishing which of the two homing attacks works on which enemy. For enemies that alternate, there's also no visual indicator telling you when he's in an immune phase and when he's vulnerable. Did anyone try to play this game before release?
Also, why do we have to hold the R shoulder button to run? This is a problem Mario 64 solved in 1996: Push the left stick barely to crawl, push harder to walk, push all the way to run. You can wallrun, or, more accurately, sometimes you wallrun and sometimes you jump impotently at the same exact wall and fall off, and I honestly can't predict which will happen in advance.
Occasionally there are powerups, but their use is so limited to the specific context (specifically, you use it exactly when you get it) that I don't understand why there's a separate button to let you "decide" to use it. Essentially the powerups all function as a way to transition to the next segment.
You have no control over the camera, but miraculously, the automated camera actually works just fine, and it will even show a view-window through any objects blocking your view. I appreciate not having to worry about camera control when I'm trying to race through a level.

    DESIGN:6
Levels are nice: they alternate between traditional 2D sections and 3D "tube"-like levels that almost look Mario:Galaxy-influenced (although nowhere near as good).
There's less time wasted in Lost World than in many sonic games; no RPG elements, no playing as less popular characters (just Sonic, thankfully), and all the levels are in organized linear succession.
But the game is still tethered to a limited lives system for some reason: die enough times and you have to go back to the very starting checkpoint. This becomes increasingly aggravating in the later stages when difficulty does start to increase, because most of your deaths will be due to the unresponsive controls or the failings of the lock-on homing attack system.
And for some reason, every few levels is locked off unless you have rescued enough animals, so I had to go back to previous levels three times to grind when all I wanted was to play the next level. Perversely, this encourages you to slow down and try and hit every enemy, when a Sonic game only really works when you are racing through it as fast as possible.
But despite all of my many (justifiable) complaints, when Lost World works (which is about half the time), it feels and plays really really well, and was fun enough that I finished it regardless of all the cheap deaths. If only they had fixed the homing attack issues, this could have been a great game. As is, it's hard to recommend to anyone but rabid Sonic fans.

    5) The overworld is hex-based for absolutely no reason at all.
    6) The optional side-missions reward you with low-grade consumables that don't feel rewarding.
    7) Opening the inventory doesn't pause the action, so during the high-speed action using items usually leads to injury or death (making that shield item or extra life completely useless).

It gets some points for having a few interesting levels (most notably the tropical stages) and a couple of good boss fights - however these aren't enough to hold the game up.

Overall, this is an entry worth skipping. If you're looking for a 3D Sonic game your time would be better spent on Sonic Adventure 2 which does everything Lost World attempts but far, far better.

I'd love to see elements from this game like the parkour system return and get polished more for future games, and this game reminded me how much fun Spindashing in 3D was.
There's a couple dumb gimmicky levels here and there, and most of it feels like Sonic in Super Mario Galaxy, but it's still at least fun and fun is what I look for.
As far as games go, this one's alright. If they ever attempt this sort of gameplay style again, just remove the gimmicky levels (like the snowball part) and make it NOT look like Mario Galaxy.

Who will like this game a lot, are those who don't like a lot of speed, like Sonic boost games, because Sonic Lost World is not as fast as Sonic should be, this is due to the fact that SEGA made this game to attract the Nintendo audience. which worked well, and by the way other players who are going to like the title are Super Mario fans, because the mechanics and levels were based on Super Mario Galaxy and the worlds on New Super Mario Bros U.

I recommend this game but I will warn you soon, it is very different from Sonic that we are used to, not that this is bad, it is just different. For those who want to play a Mario style game but don't have a Nintendo console, this game is for you.

In my opinion Sonic lost world is a missed potential. I liked the level design, new characters design and everything would be awesome if not how bad the writing is. Jokes are the worst part of this game, most of them are not even funny, they only make me wanna uninstall or even refund. Jokes are the worst part of this game, most of them are not even funny, they only make me wanna uninstall or even refund. I understand that they wanted to target mario fans because the game was Wii exclusive, but please... have mercy. Also the game does everything for the player, I can hold only one button and done, I can destroy like 5 enemies at once, or sometimes the game doesnt tell you about some mechanics, like running on walls and stuff like that. Overall not bad, but could be better. Expand

Slowing Sonic down so much there's a dedicated run button doesn't help this game. Weird lock-on system that requires you to stand still a few seconds to hit a stronger homing attack, a kick that stuns certain enemies, platforming & parkour that makes you run up walls (only sometimes), and pathetic end-stage boss fights aren't great. A solid game that has interesting and unique controls for Sonic that could really work well in an open-world (or open-zone) game if it was fleshed out and fine-tuned more. Mainly suffers from not properly teaching the player the game's controls and level mechanics as it expects you do good without easing you into the mechanics like a fine platformer would do. Overall, an interesting experiment from Sonic Team that could lead to something really good if they fleshed things out more. Expand

One of the better Sonic games of the post-Generations era.

Sonic Lost World is actually a really stable game, considering that it's from the "new" Sonic Team. Unfortunately, the game also has some negative points. Let's start there at best. Cons: - The story is unfortunately not that good. I don't think the newly introduced villains are bad, but they are introduced in a weird way.

Sonic Lost World is actually a really stable game, considering that it's from the "new" Sonic Team. Unfortunately, the game also has some negative points. Let's start there at best.

    Cons:

    - The story is unfortunately not that good. I don't think the newly introduced villains are bad, but they are introduced in a weird way. In addition, Sonic once again shows his worst side. He's just a total A**hole and an egoist, doesn't even listen to his best friend Tails anymore. :c
    - The new gameplay is great, but also kind of strange. Sonic tries to wallrun on every second wall, and it also feels pretty spongy at times.

So, let's get to the positive side.

    Pros:

    - The new gameplay is great, brings some variety back in.
    - The graphics are mega as always, it already thrilled me back then on the Wii U, but here on the PC it was immediately polished up a bit more, among other things with 60 FPS support.
    - The soundtrack is great, as always.
    - The levels are large, beautiful and varied. Has accordingly also a great replay value.

But all in all, it really is a successful game.

The game has its problems, that's for sure. But... It's a pretty decent game! Honestly I hardly get why so many don't like this game, for me it's pretty good.

It’s not fast enough for a Sonic game and imprecise controls can lead to frustration but for the most part Lost World emanates the raw, simple platforming fun rarely seen on PCs. [01/2016, p.70]

There are good ideas in Sonic Lost World, and even fleeting moments of brilliance – the wide-open assault course of Desert Ruins Zone 1 stands out as a particular highlight. But for every bit that works brilliantly and provides the thrilling action we want from Sonic, there’s a weak boss encounter or an awkward stop-start stage that dents your enthusiasm.

Sloppy controls make for an infuriating platformer. If you want a modern Sonic game, get Generations instead.
