Soldier of fortune has a very violent and controversial reputation. at the time of its release i can see it being controversial but today in the year 2019 its almost laughably tame and cheesy but cheesy in a good way .

Story: cheesy in a good way but i really don't think that this is a story about a mercenary like the title implies. it feels very much like a story id see in a james

Story: cheesy in a good way but i really don't think that this is a story about a mercenary like the title implies. it feels very much like a story id see in a james bond film/game just a tad more violently graphic. i do wish that they went with a narrative that fits better to a title like "soldier of fortune" . I did how ever really like the main character, even though the narrative doesn't fit , john Mullins dose (to a degree) hes portrayed as sort of an every man that this is his job and hes been doing it for a while and hes good at it and he knows hes good at it. he is in it for the money and the fact that hes saved the world is probably not super important to him.
    Story: 5.8/10

World building: the world building in this game like the story feels a lot like the James bond franchise but because its not the devs had to come up with a lot of the lore on their own and its serviceable. i liked the idea of "the shop" an underground "mercenary" firm that works for the UN . i think this game could have benefited greatly if you were playing as not a UN agent and a grizzled merc who would take shady jobs and that would have made the violence that much more shocking. it also would have made the game age better . john mullins is a surprisingly compelling character and could have made the story interesting enough for that narrative. On the topic and john Mullins i love the way the animations make it look like hes playing around with his guns , switching hands with the "silver talon" , turning the smg sideways , wrestles with the weight of the lmg. this adds a lot of relate ability to him and i liked that a lot.
    World building: 6.3/10

Graphics: honestly the graphics are not very good even for the year 2000 , i had to adjust to these graphics and it took me a while. the only way i knew witch buttons to press most of the time were cause they were shinny or had a strange light witch leads me to believe the devs knew the game looked bad because the levels are designed really well to compensate for that (even if i did get lost a few times but if i ever did get lost it didn't take me that long to get on track) . because of how bad the graphics are it makes the violence much less shocking.
    graphics 4/10

gameplay: this is an fps that feels very classic and really wants to make you feel like youre in a violent 80s action movie like rambo 2 and it dose a good job of that , with john playing around with his guns and the gloriously cheesy violent deaths. the controls are responsive and everything feels fast paced. i think if the story was actually about a more realistic definition of a merc and the violence was a little more stylized like in a terintino movie this really could have worked well. the gore system is definitely the best part of this game , every time you shoot an enemy you get a reaction even if that enemy is dead similar to how the dead body's react to getting shot in the sewer shoot out in jin roh the wolf brigade. this game feels like a stop gap between the cinematic modern military shooters of the late 2000s early 2010s and the classic shooters of the 90s its a mixed style that's fun but ultimately jarring
    gameplay: 7.5/10

Sound design: well the voice acting its laughably bad at best and cringy at worst. the music was (i know i use this word a lot) serviceable it feels very old school . all the guns sounded great except for the sniper rifle and the lmg , i also had a bug where my audio sound effects would cut out , it didn't happen a lot but its worth noting
    sound deign: 5/10
    5.8+6.3+4+7.5+5=28.6
    28.6/5= 5.72
soldier of fortune is a pioneer and lead the way for graphic violence in the early 2000s and probably lead the way for location damage on the technical side of things. tehcnicly for its time its decently impressive but everything else not so much . this game has not aged well but its still worth a play through as its inexpensive and fairly fun

It is an FPS game released in 2000. This year a lot of great first-person games were released such as Deus Ex, Thief 2 and No one lives forever. With such heavy competition, it was already at a disadvantage

Sound, music, and voice: Overall sound and music are average. The dialogue is pretty cheesy and of average quality.
Story: it's forgettable and the characters are typical stereotypes of good and bad guys. I just finished the game and i don't remember anyone name
Gameplay, level design; Literally every level is just standard shooting in corridors with rarely any change up. You will get bored pretty quickly. Even though it's a pretty short game (about 5 hours) it will feel like it's longer. But the shooting itself is fun.
Fun factor: The game is fun enough to get you through it. Even though towards the end i just want it to end as quickly as possible.
Overall if you are a FPS fan then play it or else dont.
