The game uses all the building blocks really well, plus it adds extra ingredients to the mix. On top of that, it adds a polished diamond of gameplay, the whole work embellished with refined audiovisuals. [Issue#330]

Mimimi Games shocked us all by saying "let's retire when we're at the top" after delivering their masterpiece with Shadow Gambit. It's a must-play game, the cursed crew needs our company.

With a great supernatural pirate theme and excellent character synergy, Shadow Gambit: The Cursed Crew is another outstanding stealth strategy game from Mimimi, though revisiting the mostly unchanged islands throws a small cloud over the otherwise vibrant treasure hunt.

With a charming cast of undead pirates, lots of style and all the bells and whistles from Desperados 3, this is another excellent addition to Mimimis considerable catalogue. The unusual freedom of choice however proves to be a double-edged sword: It's fun to pick a crew and play the missions as we see fit, but it also takes away some of the challenge we loved in the previous games.

Mimimi Games works wonders to make supernatural abilities a balanced, visually striking, and unexpectedly cool part of this real-time tactics game. Sadly, Shadow Gambit loses its way as you’re forced to revisit the same handful of islands again and again in service of a story that lacks cohesion.

It’s an extremely charming and fun game, perhaps even more so than the previous Mimimi games, and I loved “Desperados 3” & “Shadow Tactics”.It’s an extremely charming and fun game, perhaps even more so than the previous Mimimi games, and I loved “Desperados 3” & “Shadow Tactics”.

This is essentially those games but with a pirate theme, a more diverse cast of characters, and a wonderful focus in experimentation; the gameplay is highly exploitative but it’s deliberately so, it’s like that because it’s trying to get you to use multiple characters and use all of their abilities creatively. Much of the game is in getting these characters by reviving your crew, you do this by obtaining items that you can get by completing missions; it’s a cycling system, so the mechanics of the game complement one another, it’s beautiful game design.

Then there’s the story; I think the characters of this game are fantastic, but frankly, the premise isn’t that great, it’s your usual, there’s a powerful foe, you’re a group of outcasts of some kind, go overtake the throne, you get the gist. I love the characters but not their motivations, I wish the main story would equate to their quality, because their characterization and motivations is unique, charming, and made with love and care. Having said that, it’s also not like the story is terrible, it’s a bit cliché, but it does its job, is just nothing special; plus, there are some side stories that you can get by interacting with items and crew members within the hub area of the game, your ship that you gain access to in-between missions; it’s pretty cool.

I frankly thing, because of the focus in fun and experimentation, as well as in improving their game design by taking risks, Mimimi studios has essentially created their best game to date; a sandbox playground that follows a charming crew of outcasts in an average quest, but with a wonderful, wonderful gameplay and character personalities to follow. I love the game, it’s great.

This game follows the same pattern, however, the presentation is really good. Music, atmosphere, voice acting etc elevates this game from 7 to 9 in my opinion. Comparing to other Mimimi games, it's not as detailed as Desperados 3, but it's more face-paced with smaller maps, like Shadow Tactics. Expand
