What keeps realMYST from earning the high honors is the problematic control system that makes clicking on the right areas difficult; especially the much darker nature of the environment at night, making navigation quite hellish and the solving of puzzles relatively impossible.
-
Although a brief new Age (Rime) with additional puzzles and subtle foreshadowing of the Riven sequel has been added as an ending bonus, it's not really enough of an incentive to play MYST over again.
-
The newly enhanced graphics and sound, coupled with the new age, may be reason for some to revisit the land of Myst, but the overall effect is one of "been there, done that."
-
CNET GamecenterAn interesting take on the classic game and a must-have for fans of the original.
-
You need a really good idea and revolutionary technology to actually achieve something on the market, and puzzle-adventure games are surely not top-of-the-pops.
-
If you love Myst, then you're best to keep it where it belongs -- happily sitting back in your memories.
-
Unfortunately, the 3D engine serves only to make Myst a much more frustrating game.
-
Just because the engine has been updated doesn't mean the game is any less tedious or frustrating than it was in its original form.
