    it's a game that needs to be understood, unfortunately there is a real objective in this game but it has very fun gameplay.
    If you have just finished watching films like "Pirates of the Caribbean" and you want an adventure at sea, perhaps accompanied by other friends, this game can give you a great adventure.

    This is in my opinion one of the best games to play with friends, the ship's mechanics are really cool and you don´t need more than 4 different weapons. NOT pay to win. I would not recommend to you to buy this game if you going to play it by solo and if you don´t have no one to play with, find a discord server of the game it is always fun.

    The game became good now, 50% of the bad review are about the fact the game is banned from Russia, wich make the actual User Score irrevelent, and also, an other part of the bad review are from 2018, the game as gone trough a lot of major update now.

    I think this is the best pirate game after AC Black Flag. It doen't have crafting but it is very fun with your friends.

You can also come across online players who you can engage in pvp combat with taking their loot before they have chance to sell it leaving them with nothing. You can also select to team up with other online players if 1 of you has space on the boat. You get 3 different boats. Different sizes have the option of different party sizes. The largest being up to 4 players.

    This game doesn't hold your hand to much. Working stuff out requires a bit of actual input from the player. Or just google it. This is ofcourse a good thing. Learning is fun. Games feel so boring when everything is just done for you.

    If you are the type of person who will get frustrated over the fact that you can spend ages collecting loot for it to be taken by over players then this game isn't for you. How ever myself I love it when a game punishes you for failing.

    Online players a really nice and interactive. People are always happy to help new players get the hang of things. Most people online have mics aswell so you can speak to each other.

    Overall this game offers hours of fun with countless stuff to explore. Updates come out quite often aswell adding to the list of stuff to do.

    I don't understand why this game isn't well perceived by many people. The reason you can't upgrade your boat with stronger cannons and so on is because new players would just get sank all the time. You can how ever unlock cosmetic upgrades or you can buy them with real money. You can still have plenty of fun without dropping any real cash. There is a battlepass aswell but this game still offers tons of stuff outside of the battlepass.    … Expand

    It becomes repetitive and I don't like the fact that you are basically forced to collaborate with at least another player to be competitive, however I do enjoy the graphics and the many "tales" they added throughout the years.

    The improvements from the launch make the old reviews redundant, this is one of the best games I have played. The fact that a new player and seasoned player have identical equipment means the only difference is player skill.

    sea of thieves is a significantly better game than it was 4 years ago rare has improved the game and added content the only thing i wish it had was more ways to progress but as of now im pretty satisfied with the seasons they just need to happen more frequently

No one is really quite sure because when the game first released back in 2018, it was highly hyped up by both the developers and the XBOX community alike. You had so many gamers saying this was going to be the game that made the XBOX ONE, the game that would make PlayStation and Nintendo gamers jealous, so onSea of Thieves is a game that managed to borderline come back from the dead. How? No one is really quite sure because when the game first released back in 2018, it was highly hyped up by both the developers and the XBOX community alike. You had so many gamers saying this was going to be the game that made the XBOX ONE, the game that would make PlayStation and Nintendo gamers jealous, so on and so fourth. However, it was the complete opposite. Everything gamers were lead to believe was somehow not quite the truth.

    I would say most of all, it was purely misdirection. Intentional, yes, but I don't think any major harm was meant. But unfortunately, the gaming community is so very brutal and they do not let things go when they are angry. And gamers certainly became angry about Sea of Thieves.

    The game was the negative talking point of the gaming world for quite a few months. Even a friend of mine, who is primarily and XBOX gamer asked me "Yeah, Sea of Thieves, what the hell went wrong there?".

    But now, some years later, the game is worthy of some praise. I've been playing it on my PC on Games Pass and I've had my best friend and my girlfriend roped in onto the game with me. First and foremost, I will say this game is pretty much a multiplayer game. The developers say it's solo friendly and while it is somewhat true and they are even adding solo friendly content into the game, can you really do it solo? The answer to that question is not really, not without some great deal of difficulty.

    The whole games mechanics works purely on working as a team with other people, so trying to do everything that a whole team needs to do, navigating the map, adjusting and setting the sails and manning the helm, it's all quite the chore. And if you get attacked by one of the in game dangers, such as the Megalodon, a Ghost ship or even the legendary Kraken, then you can basically kiss your ship goodbye and any loot you may of had on it because if you think you cand handle sailing, repairs of the ships damage AND manning the canons all by yourself, it's not going to happen.

    So yes, you need friends, you need a crew. And the more, the better.

    But the content of the game that is now seen in it is where it's truly shining these days. So much has been added and it's only getting better. Customization of your character, weapons and your ship is all very simple, yes, but it's still fun. It's so fun to sail the seas as the pirate you want to be. Give your pirate a beard, a peg leg, a hook for a hand. Paint your ship red and black, give it a black sail, hoist the skull and crossbones! You can even get pets in the game, such as dogs, cats, monkeys and parrots, and you can even get them outfits that give them peg legs and eye patches!

    Yes, a lot of this stuff comes in the form of microtransactions from the in game online store, but the small prices you pay for them are trivial at the end of the day. And I only spend about £5 or so once every few months on them, so I'm not exactly breaking the bank.

    The game, even today, is visually beautiful and even now, as a last gen game, the water graphics in the game are the best in existence, even when compared to up and coming new gen games. The sailing mechanics are some of the most fun parts. If you've got one friend manning the map, guiding you as you handle the helm and another tackles the sails, you can be hit with a storm, which means you'll have to fight high waves, strong tides that will throw you off course. Lightning will strike the ocean and can even hit your ship, sparking a fire, meaning you have to scoop water from a barrel on your ship which draws it in from the ocean to put it out. And whne a storm lingers dead over head, it plays havoc with your compass next to your helm, meaning you have to trust your own knowledge of the map and the ship to guide you through it. Me, my girlfriend and my best friend have been thrown way off course in the past by storms, and it's such a fun element of the game.

    Other little things that make the game so much fun is the inclusion of playing instruments, making a little band together. Even your pets will dance along to them! In game emotes can be a laugh. You can go fishing, catch some fish, cook them up and store them in your ships food barrel or your own inventory as a health restore option. You have several different canon ammo types, from the regular canonball to chain shots, made to take down the mast of enemy ships, fire bombs, designed to set the ships on fire. And then you have cursed balls, ones which will cast a spell on the ship to give various effects, from making the whole enemy crew sick to forcing the anchor to drop.

    Everything in the game, from sailing to hunting down treasure is just all so much fun. But you need friends. That's a definite. Sea of Thieves is worth picking up. Especially on games pass.    … Expand

    Als erstes muss ich sagen das ich Sea of Thives erst jetzt einige Stunden gespielt habe und nicht gleich beim Release als wohl noch einiges fehlte.
    Zum jetzigen Zeitpunkt ist Sea of Thieves aber wirklich ein großartiges Spiel und da es leider wenig alternativen gibt was Videospiele mit Piraten angeht werde ich bestimmt noch einige Stunden in das Spiel stecken.

    The 'Tall-tales' we've done so far have been enjoyable little romps that emulate a grand adventure over multiple chapters.

    Even other player interactions, which I have noted that other people have had primarily negative ones, have very rarely been so for me. Talking to people on other ships, forming alliances, and making new friends has been a blast.    … Expand

    This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Sea of Thieves is very calm to play. The graphics is fine though, there is just a bit of cartoonish graphics. Soundtrack on the game is also fine, nothing interesting and it just fit to a pirate life thing. Playing missions or quest on this game is quiet a bit bad and boring especially when you need to keep coming back for like 5 or more than 5 times just to get that award, it's just my own preference though, I don't really like that. Playing Sea of Thieves is fun, especially when you're alone because you got to see the very calm seas, be careful though, some players might kill you or destroy your ship. The worst part is, some "thing" is lurking beneath the depth… Expand

    According to Steam, I have 84 hours on this game. And I've only played through half of the content. The graphics aren't bad, the music is great, and the gameplay is fun. I highly recommend it, if you've got a few friends to sail with.

    The game starts out with a fun tutorial that gets you excited to begin your pirate life. A relaxing, single player experience to learn the basics. And that's really it. The basics. There is so much more to learn that the game does not teach you.

    Shortly after starting the actual game, I died almost every 5 minutes. To skeletons blowing me up as I read a book on a small island (enemies continually respawn... thanks devs for putting reading in the wild...). I died in my anchored boat by another player who was far more experienced than me (I barely knew how to fire my cannons properly) as I began my first quest. I died at the hands of more players as I continued to try and bring in my first chest to port. A random dude stole my treasure AND boat AND yelled at me as he sailed off... then came back and apologised and taught me how to open up my crew to the public.

    The first chest I did bring in rewarded me with 70 gold. Seventy. Most cosmetics' (which seems to be this games only sense of progression) costs are in the thousands, if not more. Some beards and hairs are cheaper, granted. This felt like nothing as the tutorial gives you a huge 30,000 gold starting package... the game felt like a slow grind.

    After hours of what felt like griefing by other players, I was ready to uninstall. There seems to be no area which is safe from the PvP environment. I'm pretty sure I read an "honour among pirates" poster somewhere, but that was a dirty lie.

    Hours later, defeated and forgetting I had opened up my crew to the public, a random dude who also just started playing the game that day joined. We chatted a bit and he seemed to have a completely different starting experience, not being killed by other players at all. We set sail and became the best crew-mates anyone could ask for. We played until 3 in the morning, jamming out on the deck and completing longer missions. Maybe it was the time of day, but all the 13 year old griefers seemed to have disappeared. Nothing but treasure hunting, skeleton smashing, and smooth sailing.

    Definitely a game to be played with others. They say you can solo pirate, but as soon as you run into a ship of 4+ pirates in a town, kiss all your hard work/hours of looting goodbye as you try to turn it in at a port.

    I read an in-game book about "easy-come-easy-go" and it should be the motto of the game. Everything you work towards hoarding in your ship (food, cannon balls, treasure) can be stolen from random pirates in a second... and then you simply find it again instantly in another random barrel or continue the mission. There is not really any death-penalty other than losing potential hours of treasure hunting.

    The game is beautiful, with cartoony graphics. The feeling of sailing is unmatched (compared to games like Stranded Deep or AC Odyssey). I can see the travelling getting boring, but I am still new and loving it. Again, with friends, you can play instruments, talk, fight sharks/ghost ships, cook food while someone else sails, play Jack on the front of the bow like in Titanic, etc.

    The sounds of the ocean, instruments, and ambience is well done. The dialogue can be lacking, leaving you reading most NPC conversations.

    Cannot wait to jump back in and be slaughtered by Fortnite kids.    … Expand

    This game in 2020 is spectacular. I encourage anyone who hasn't played since launch to revisit this game. There is so much more content now and is definetely worth the play. If you have some friends who have this game. Hop on a sloop, brigantine, or a galleon and have some fun.

    - the threat of a kraken sinking your ship full of loot or an enemy ship stealing your treasure comes with a true sense of loss, which can be frustrating, but an actual sense of potential loss makes victories that much sweeter.

What the shroudbreaker is, it is a object that creates a force field and can get you to the shores of gold ( a place that is past the boarders of the open world.     Played this game in beta and then when It first release. Back then it was enjoyable, and ive had many memorable moments with my friends, but at that time there was a lack of things to do at all. Fast forward to NOW. I jumped back in in July when it released on steam, and boy, what an improvement, there is so much to do now, so many new things to discover, and adventures to be    SoT in 2020

    OK, so it just came out on steam so people are probably looking for reviews. A LOT has changed since 2018 like A LOT. First monthly major updates get the community going a lot tons of quests voyages and story-based adventures. Its best played with 2-4 friends as it can be hard soloing.

    Sea of Thieves had a rocky launch with barley any content. But in it's current state it's well worth the $50 it costs in Canada. If you get it with Xbox Gamepass it's well worth it aswell. It's done a No Mans Sky like 180 and I 100% recommend it.

On top of that sound and music is outstanding and graphic is stylised but gorgeus, it evokes pirate tales and movies or lego like cartonish style. Above that all developers added many free content updates since lunch and are still supporting and listening to the players. Worth every penny and just pure joy.… Expand

    Awesome game!!! After the last big updates this is a hidden gem of games. To be honest, you have tio be mature do understand how to form your personal adventures. it is not about typical scripted quests, it is more about your own quests you can experience with other pirates. i would have given a 10/10 if there were less small glitches and bugs. but all in all it is very playable!

    I came to SoT really late in the game (after christmas 2018). I stayed away from the game originally because of the negative reviews. I don't know if it's the updates or just that the game is better than others let on, but I really find the game to be really rewarding. The gameplay loop isn't the most rewarding thing ever since everything is cosmetic, but I really enjoy the fact that armor and weapons don't affect gameplay, only strategy and skill (I'm terrible btw). I had a group of friends which I think would make a huge difference. I think, if you like the idea of bonding with your friends while having some of the most surreal experiences in gaming, then I think you should give this another try. I haven't tried everything yet, but I'm comfortable giving this game a high score from the amount I've played. The reason for the missing point, is that the gameplay loop is somewhat shallow.… Expand

    You want to chill and dig up some chests, kill some skelletons ? You can do it, but you should expect some dangers, like an another crew who wants to sink you to get your booty. Maybe the Kraken will put his/her tentacles around your ship, seeking for blood and broken wood. Or, some huge shark teeth will break through your deck, the Megalodon is always lurking from the depths. Seeing a skelleton ship rising from under the seas, shooting sparkling cursed canon balls at you while you're peacefully going back to sell your loot can be surprising too. And every time, it's your choice, it's your way to deal with those, run away or fight back.

    Now that the skelletons forts/stronghold are up a lot more often (as well as the Skelleton ships fights), you can be involved into a lot more PvP fights aswell, making allliances, fighting to death, the choice is yours !

    I'm just talking about what happens in the game, but the technical aspects of Sea of Thieves are trully stunning. The sound design is perfect, it shows the perfect atmorsphere and at the same time gives your every informations you need to understand what's happening around you (A gunpowder barrel getting lit, a hole into your hull, ropes being pulled, anchor being droped, skelleton ship rising from the depths, the last wave of the fort spawned, and so on...).
    The graphic aspect is up to your personnal feeling of course, but the cartoonish style can be colorful into the Shores of plenty or depressing into the Wilds, dangerous into the Devil's Roar... And oh my god, the water is just ridiculously beautiful and makes sailing a pure pleasure.

    I can go on for years about this game, I found into Sea of Thieves something i've lost during my gamer life, pure gaming pleasure ! Playing for the sake's of fun, into a world full of possibilities and danger, that can be sometimes frustrating but always rewarding.

    I've learnt something with Sea of Thieves, it's that you don't need to be an absolute content seeker to find pleasure as a gamer !

    Trust me, if you want to experience a unique game in a beautiful world with plenty of things to do, specially with friends, you should just dive into this magnificent ocean of possibilities and meet pirates from all around the globe.    … Expand

    Wonderful game I enjoy for already 5 months. The game is updates very good and gets enough content updates. The style is beautiful and with friends it is so much fun! If you loved it as a child to act like a pirate, this is the game you need in your life!

Sailing is as smooth as butter, the water and art in general in this game is absolutely gorgeous, and there is something so inherently relaxing about just sailing around onAhhhh, Sea of Thieves. On one hand, this is one of the most fun games I've ever played with friends. When you get in a massive ship battle involving your ship and 1-4 other ships, this game is as exciting as any other. Sailing is as smooth as butter, the water and art in general in this game is absolutely gorgeous, and there is something so inherently relaxing about just sailing around on the beautiful sea in this game. For all those reasons, that's why I give this game an 8.

    It does have its cons however, and the glaring one is a huge lack of content. Unlike a lot of players, I actually don't mind voyages, it's something to do while looking for the next bout of trouble with other ships (or perhaps becoming friends and drinking Grogg together). That being said, the fact that voyages is essentially the only thing to do aside from skull forts (which spawn roughly every 3 hours) is troubling and a glaring problem with the game. If the Devs didn't have plans for a bunch of content updates, I would give this game a 6 instead of an 8 because of the lack of content.

    That being said, Rare has been very transparent about plans for the games, updates and listening to their community. I fully have faith that this game will have a lot more to do exactly a year from now, with 3 medium to big content updates already announced and planned (The Hungering Deep coming out soon).

    If I had to give a recommendation for this game, I'd tell you that if it looks and sounds appealing to you, give it a try with Xbox Gamepass. This is the kind of game that, if you enjoy, you will want to be with it for the long haul to see how development pans out. If you know you would get bored from fighting other ships, stealing, making funny alliances, and doing skull forts and voyages, then skip this until it hits a sale. Personally, it's one of my favorite games, but I can see why it turns people off 100%.    … Expand

The Call of Duties of the gaming world are obviously here to stay for the near future, but when a game like Sea of Thieves comes out it really feels like there is hope for interesting games on the horizon. When I first got into the game and realized there were not any HUD nav points telling me where to go or what to do, I was kind of blown away and I realized maybe that what I had just gotten into was something fresh.

    One thing I can definitely see as something that might be a negative for people is if you are trying to play the game alone, or maybe with just random matchmaking and aren't really getting an experience. Having friends to play with of a like mind goes a long way with this one. I love how there are long periods of maybe no human encounters at all, just sailing and acquiring loot in a way that actually challenges your real world skills like cardinal directions and reading a map, solving little riddles here and there, etc. It really brings gaming back to fond memories of playing things like Myst or Goblins, but from a completely fresh perspective that you can share with your friends. When you do have an encounter (or maybe several) a successful raid on another crew is extremely rewarding. When you actually pull one over on someone else and steal some or all of their loot, it is a fantastic accomplishment. Of course, you are just as much a target as they are and if you tend to get upset by PvP and are someone who cries about fairness etc., this game might not be for you. However, if you can get over it and just move on and then go pillage someone else, the personal accomplishment and internal reward is great especially when sharing in the victory with your friends.

    The fact that everything in the game is "physical" is great. You show your status, by the items you buy from selling your plunders. When you see a pirate all decked out in awesome gear, you know that they have some experience, but it's still a level playing field. All of the mechanics are just "make sense" type systems, like having to bail out water from your ship while repairing the hull, or needing to set the sails correctly to catch the wind. This is the kind of game that expects it's players to be half way intelligent. I feel like the world in general should start expecting a little more intelligence and this is a great start. A kid playing this game will learn how to read maps and understand cardinal directions in a fun way. I have probably close to 36 hours now into SoT and couldn't be happier. I also think that some of the people who say it is a wash, rinse, repeat experience must not have played for very long. The longer I've played the more there is to uncover. I probably played for 12 hours before ever seeing the Kraken, I still haven't gotten to a skull fort type quest, but know they exist from reading forums, etc. Sometimes I find a new type of loot item I haven't seen before like the "Chest of 1000 Grogs".

    Ultimately, the game is fantastic if you want to create an experience with your friends. One thing I find amazing is that I remember actual excerpts of game play that my crew experienced over others. When you play many online games, it seems that every match is just another un-note worthy experience that you don't distinguish from the last or the next. Sea of Thieves has a substance that can only be described as character enough to demand creativity from its players. The greatest part of all is that Rare thinks we are smart enough to handle it!

    Sea of Thieves is game about pirates doing piraty stuff. You Need to Play this with friends and in the gamechat and you will have the most fun expierience you've had for a Long time. Gameplay can get repetitive but there is hope in all of the future updates for the game!

    Most people struggle with learning to use their imagination to make their own fun, which is required, especially in this game's current state. Yes this game lacks content, and yes it needs more to keep people playing, but for the average player with a couple friends, this game is one of the best organic experiences out there.

    I laugh at the people who have already played the game for 30+ hours (likely in just 2-3 sittings) complaining about repetitiveness. That's like expecting to play any online shooter in the same way and then complaining about lack of content. The primary fun will come from fluid interactions with other players, which can take a couple of matchmaking attempts to find a good group (literally did this and made 2 friends last night). The devs are already working to improve matchmaking options and releasing more content. Can't wait as more.

    Tips for having fun in this game:

    - Try not to play alone
    - Try to find other plays to add as friends to play with later (build/assemble a crew)
    - Don't expect randoms to want the same experience you are looking for (AKA don't feed the trolls)
    - Be Spontaneous
    - When bored, put the game down for a bit and do something else

    Not worth $60 at the moment, but i don't see the devs saying extra costs for new content in the future.    … Expand

    There is more content in this game than people would have you believe. That said, more and varied content will certainly help this game. Right now, it is the constant looking over your shoulder for other pirates and the different interactions while questing that add the real variety to the quests, not the quests themselves.

    The features in this game are all polished, honed and perfected to a level not seen in games anymore. The feat that Rare pulled off with not just how beautiful the water is, but how it acts is unheard of. Sailing is done right. The sea feels like a living thing and it very much wants you dead. Ship combat is hectic and intense, everything you could hope for.

    Best game of the year for me.

    Amazing game. This game lets you create your own adventure. I believe all of the haters are young kids who grew up never using their imagination.

    The game does not have many quests, but that is not what it is about. Doing the three main missions and then saying the game is bad is like a kid getting an action figure, moving its arms up and down, then proclaiming "That's all this does?!    Amazing game.     I have had some of the most intense and most enjoyable times in this game. Doing a fort with another team you cant really trust, taking out the treasure gained and having both teams stand on opposite sides picking treasure one by one was extremely nerve racking.

    Sea of Thieves has successfully redeemed its clumsy launch with Rare being a developer that fully commits to the title with monthly updates for more than two years. Now – it is a game brimming with content, adventure and gorgeous pirate atmosphere with arguably being the best pirate game available and a truly fun multiplayer experience.

    A year of updates has helped fill out its light content, but the real magic was there from the start. Rare’s take on cartoon piracy encourages you to behave as a cartoon pirate should: a little bloodthirsty, a little silly, and almost always drunk.
