Sakuna: Of Rice and Ruin is a charming experience, and its charming cast keeps things surging forward, even while the main story drags on for a bit. There's certainly a bit of a learning curve, and the game could do a better job with tutorials, but there are deep systems to dig into once players get the hang of them.

I jive a lot of what Sakuna: Of Rice and Ruin sets out to achieve conceptually as it juggles between tight fast-paced action RPG combat and thorough rice farming mechanics. Edelweiss unfortunately fumbles on key areas to an otherwise charming title. Platforming is a hassle most of the time, especially in later areas. Every system feels a step too steep into resource micromanagement, and it made me feel as if I was always playing on a tight schedule rather than being able to progress at my leisure. I wish I loved this game more, because there is a lot of heart, but sadly I came away merely lukewarm from the experience.

The biggest problem in this game is the combat, it feels stiff, repetitive and unsatisfying. The raiment (grapple) goes in 8 directionsThe biggest problem in this game is the combat, it feels stiff, repetitive and unsatisfying. The raiment (grapple) goes in 8 directions instead of going around you freely, which feels *awful*. "Exploring" areas doesn't feel satisfying, you're just checking objectives off as you fight enemies that feel like they came out of a 20 year old game.

The rice farming stuff is incredibly tedious for no reason. Dedicated farming games don't make it this tedious, why did they do it like this here? Not bad, but not for me.

Another extremely overhyped game that basically nobody knows about. I like to try unknown games, so i tried this and i didn't like it.
