Well, i pre-ordered it anyways because i was going to get it either way. Turns out this game is REALLY fun! I swear to god, running around with super speed and jumping uber high shooting ice balls at people is mega fun. Thanks to the developers for such an awesome and fun game. But as always, don't take my word, or any other word on it, i liked it but YOU may be different. If you like cheesy, OTT awesomeness, and super powers.. Get it nowwwww! Oh and don't worry, the game isn't in your face with Dubstep, luckily they have kept and added in some radio stations with some actual good music... Can't wait to hear 13 year old kids cry after typing that hehe :]

    8/10

    Pros:
    Fun
    Funny
    Good M/K Controls
Superpowers (I mean come on, that's awesome!)
Choice to keep music playing when out of the car

    Cons:
£40 on Steam, seriously? Very expensive for a PC game that was DLC.
Very similar to the 3rd game.
Once again, the graphics are very bad, but hey, that's the current gen consoles fault.
    Story is lacking.

What should've been a light parody or nod even, to the Matrix, turned out to be an exact ripoff of the movie. If the movie came out a year ago I would understand, but it came out in 1999, and been copied and parodied to absurdity long before this game came about. If it does nothing else, it makes you want to blow the dust off of your SR3 copy, and that's never a bad thing. Especially since you don't have to play the same mini game over and over to access every individual store in SR3 Expand

Load of tripe "over the top game play" is an excuse for lazy story telling not to mention rips off better franchises and copied the matrix it offers no originality what so ever.

Surprisingly fun, I could never understand wtf a Saints Row game is, turns out this one is a mix of GTA and Matrix with better gunplay. Levels are amazingly huge, and I never had a single hiccup with loading graphics, even on a 2 year old gaming rig.

With that said, there arent as many quests as in a traditional GTA game, most of what's available is pretty generic, still fun.

I was a little more interested in this because they've really gone out of their way to give Saints Row it's own identity with absurd humour, strong voice acting and ludicrous weapons and super powers. Funnily enough, the addition of super powers compared to Saints Row III is actually enough improvement to make it quite good. The fact that the physics are pretty bad, the mini games are shallow and get old quickly, and the visuals are pretty ugly means that I have to give this game a 7. GTA V is so much better in every conceivable way. Plot, writing, setting, art direction, graphical fidelity, audio, gameplay. The physics and the way cars handle in that game are phenomenal and really make Saints Row look cheap. Not to mention the huge improvements in the procedural animations since GTA IV.

Basically. Buy a console and buy GTA V instead of this. It really is worth it.

The saints games have always been about excess and nowhere is that more clear than in SR4. It can't really boast with a fable to go with all the nonsensically over the top action and there there is a small possibility that you might be offended by it's lack of "saintness", but if you take it for what it is, you might have a good time regardless. Prior to its release, a lot of the previews made the game look like a reskin or DLC for Saints Row 3. I held out hope that the devs were going to expand beyond expectations considering all the wacky aliens, superpowers, and ridiculous weapons they were adding. Instead what we got was essentially Saints Row 3.5: a big & stupid Michael Bay sequel that feels like a really long add-on to SR3.

SR 2 & 3 had some restraint and at least attempted to build up to their big action sequences. SR4 starts off with a bang and never stops in the worst way possible. The only thing that breaks up the action sequences are a few comedic moments and nostalgia pandering scenes but even these manage to go over-the-top. Seriously, who has played SR1 and why is so much of this game wasted on referencing it? Many of the rest breaks I took while playing this were just to detox from the Michael Bay-ness of everything; I love blowing up spaceships as much as everyone else, but there's a point in time where you just want to walk through the city and beat pedestrials with a giant ♥♥♥♥♥. Much of the game feels like you are forced to take the most explosive route possible through everything; I really wish there was an ability toggle button because simply bumping into pedestrians or vehicles while super sprinting will have the police shooting lasers at you for miles. The majority of this game feels like action for the sake of action with most of it feeling unrewarding and boring at times.

Adding to the rushed feeling of SR4, much of the game doesn't feel playtested. For example, Explosive Blast's chain reaction will kill whole flashpoints with a single fireball from any distance, while the Buff ability feels like a joke considering how late in the game you get it. Weapons have plenty of issues too; some weapons are completely useless unless you are handed them for a mission (obligatory useless sniper rifle, Alien SMG, Dubstep Gun, etc.) while others slaughter everything unupgraded (Disintegrator, 'Merica, etc.). I found myself using garbage weapons or abilities just to complete in-game challenges because otherwise I would've just used Blast & the Thump Gun for everything.

The storyline feels really slapped together too. Why bother with more simulation exploits when you have a suit of giant power armor in the real world? Everytime something cool happens in the real world it feels like the game drops an arbitrary hurdle for you to overcome inside the simulation. The whole in-out-in-out just feels like padding and an excuse to turn off superpowers for missions, especially considering your Health upgrades carry over into the real world. I really would've enjoyed more time spent in the real world... Perhaps the first part of the game inside the simulation with all the ridiculous superpowers and the second half in the real world, fighting Zinyak on his own turf? Overall it just feels like a missed chance simply because the devs wanted to recycle as much as possible.

So is SR4 just extended DLC for SR3? Yes, but really, really long DLC. I feel like they stretched SR3's assets as far as they could go and whipped together some quick alien tech from recycled STAG parts. People might try to draw conclusions between this and GTA 3 vs. VC & SA, but those were completely new environments, characters, vehicles, and so forth. SR4 manages to even reuse 3's map despite Earth being destroyed (whoops spoilers!)!

Should you bother playing SR4? If you've played any of the previous games, you will find something familiar here. If you are new to the series, don't expect "GTA With Aliens" because this is the most bombastic Saints Row yet. I enjoyed this but it would be my least favorite Saints Row if SR2's PC port wasn't garbage. I recommend giving it a shot but 2 and 3 are clearly better games.

The game play is amusing, but repetitive at times. The open ended world involves going around doing missions basically. Nice idea but not terribly interesting for gamers used to more involving games. After killing Cyrus and saving America from the missile hitting Washington, after that you'll become the President of the United States. Saints Row IV is different from its predecessor because in Saints Row IV your character will have cool super powers like freeze blast, telekenesis, super stomp, etc. In Saints Row IV cars are pretty much useless because you'll most likely be using super jump and super sprint to travel. But you can still cuztomize them the way you like. The character customization is excellent, you can customize almost anything. The side actvivities are very fun, I really like Prof. Genki's Mind Over Murder because it's fun and challenging. The game has many refrences to other games. The weapons are funny and unique like the dubstep gun and the blackhole gun. Collecting the clusters are very fun too. Overall Saints Row IV is a very enjoyable game. Expand

Saints Row is a franchise that perfectly fits the description of "Trying way too hard to be hip, edgy, and funny" to entertain the bottom of the social pyramid to make lots of money. Every saints row game comes out a few months prior to a Rockstar release and almost always guarantees positive reviews.

I know the game is supposed to be tongue in cheek, but the humor isn't really that great. The enemy spawning is far too close to the player so unless you manage to find a dead end street you will get attack from all angles basically all the time. It will probably happen in a dead end street as well because the enemy comes from everywhere including the sky. The game is 99.5% reuse of resources from Saints Row The Third and should basically not be allowed to be sold for more than 5 bucks as it is essentially a glorified DLC.

It is fast paced, short and fun for a laugh but the novelty effect dies within an hour or two. Nice try but.. seriously no it wasn't. I did like the superpowers though, so that earned one point.

    Shame on volition... bad work.

Then one rainy day I decided to boot it up and was more than pleasantly surprised with what I discovered. Essentially the movies 'Independence Day' and 'The Matrix' bashed into one action packed escapade, this game is chock-full of witty dialogue, pop culture references, and explosions; lots of explosions. And for those of you who still think this is just another 'Grand Theft Auto' clone, I've got six words for you: you barely drive In this game. It's based much more on pedestrian missions as opposed to car driven ones. There, I said it and I'm glad that I got it off of my chest.

The best part of the single player campaign in 'Saints Row 4' is how it never grows stale; constantly changing perspectives, situations, characters, and even genre, this game keeps you own your feet and never lets you down. In just a few minutes you'll go from platforming, to 2D side-scrolling beat em' up, to sitting in a turret blasting alien spaceships out of the sky. But the game doesn't stop there, it also adds in super powers to really make things fun and gives you the ability to jump as high as buildings, run faster than the speed of sound, shoot fire out of your palms, and basically any other awesome power you can think of; yep, this game has it all.

I'm so glad that I finally gave 'Saints Row IV' a chance, because this is one of those games that you sit down to play for an hour and end up beating the whole damn thing. It instantly grabs you with it's balls to the wall attitude, tosses you up against that wall, and then proceeds to give you the thrill ride of a lifetime. The story doesn't take itself too seriously, the cut-scenes don't feel like a chore to watch, it's fast-paced, it's entertaining, it's got sex, it's got cars, it's got guns galore; it's basically the best action movie you've ever seen. Aliens have come to take over the planet, and it's up to the president of the United States to save the day. What else is new. Welcome to Earth.

At its best, Saints Row IV is a love letter to the franchise. At its worst, the game is just a copy and paste of Saints Row The Third with aliens and superpowers.

Superpowers! Blast, Telekinesis, Stomp (each with varying elements like Freeze or Fire), Super Jump, Super Sprint (previewed in SR3 The Trouble With Clones DLC) and several more form the core of the game play, and are the primary attraction. Why take a car when you can run faster than a car? Is that building in your way? Jump over it. Too tall to jump over it? Not to worry: you can wall-run! Need to take out that group of enemies? Sure, you can use guns; but why not drop into the middle of them and stomp your foot once to send them flying? Much easier! The catch is that the superpowers do make the game generally easy (the Superhero Fight Club activities being the occasionally frustrating exception).

The story of Saints Row IV is, of course, completely over-the-top. But that's not out of place in a Saints Row game. The Boss is now the President of the United States; Earth has been invaded by the alien Zin, who abduct the Boss and the homies. Much of the game is spent rescuing members of your crew, which requires visiting a simulation of that homie's worst nightmare. There are some fantastic nostalgia trips (you even revisit some of the original Saints Row game) and funny satire (no game or movie is exempt, not even Metal Gear or Mass Effect). Much of it is accompanied by a great selection of songs; shooting up a Genki challenge with a certain character (long thought dead) while “The Boys are Back” plays was hilarious. While not every character from the franchise appears, all the major ones do.

The downside is that Saints Row IV is, at its heart, a copy-and-paste of Saints Row The Third. Steelport is virtually unchanged; the city map is exactly the same. Activities are exactly the same; Tank Mayhem, for instance, is the same activity with an alien Zin tank instead of an Abrams tank. The planes and aerial vehicles are reskinned SR3 models; they fly and function exactly the same. Hijacking cars is even still a thing; the in-game explanation makes sense, but doesn't hide anything else. With superpowers, cars are a waste anyway. Weapons are unique and fun, and even slightly moddable; but if you've played Red Faction: Armageddon, more than a few will be familiar (Volition developed both games). There's a lot more, but you get the idea.

If you're looking for a completely new Saints Row game, you won't find it Saints Row IV (outside of the superpower implementation, which is superb). If you're looking for a game that is simply a blast to play – one that will make you laugh far more than it will make you scream in frustration – then absolutely get this one. In a time when all forms of entertainment are getting more serious, the absurdity of Saints Row IV is an absolute breath of fresh air.

    On DLC:
As with so many games today, there is too much DLC. At least the Game of the Century Edition includes everything.

Everything Grand Theft Auto V got wrong was done right in this game months earlier. The combat is relentless, ridiculous and always entertaining, and all the side content is worked into the ordinary game flow, especially if you're shooting for the best ending. First, this was actually an expansion for the third game that in the end became a game on its own: that is reason why it lacks a lot of innovation and it just doesn't do much new...but if people can still play CoD every year despise being the exact same, this game actually DOES things a lot better than you'd expect. First, the game got a lot better in the story: many old ones and some even new will really shine out in every moment..heck even the VILLAIN is great! Not only that, a lot of the dialogues, jokes, and writing in general just got way better, without mentioning lots of scenes with just pure random awesomeness (one word: "Haddaway"). For the game itself...it had some tweaks sure: the game now features more guns with more differences between them, with also more customization options on cars and also costumes (even though not as many as you'd think). The game unfortunely changes the colors of the game into a very darkish red, meaning that the old Steelport is long gone in here: It's not a big deal, but it is a worse sight for your eyes. And of course, we got superpowers...and this is why I also dislike this game much. Because the superpowers replaces every single type of transport. Sure, you can drive (we got some few new vehicles, both flying and cars. I didn't see any water ones though), but with the superpowers you can literally plane all over the place, from side to side, in a matter of seconds, without mentioning that you're flatout faster, more agile, and everything: cars are literally pointless in this game, and it defeats the purpose of being a "Free-roaming" game, since it's more like a super-hero game. I'm not saying that this is a flaw per se but, in a way, it's like playing GTA with noclip: it's so fun at first, but you'd still want to play all the game normally without so much strength. Also, missions got very varied this game, even if slightly, and most of them still consist on same objectives but you'll have to use a different method; we also have few new missions too, like the sprint missions, puzzles with super powers (like jumping platforms, telekinesis throw, etc), some old, like Genki's and Fraud (with super powers, it's WAY hilarious to play!). My only drawback is that a lot of these missions are just too simple and easy to complete, no point even giving us 3 medals since it's so easy to complete them. And lastly, my biggest problem which was also in the third game: it's way too repetitive in here and a lot of missions are just submissions (cracking the places are the most annoying too). Sure the good missionns are GOOD and you'll love to unlock everything but I felt a lot of missions being the same exact thing. In other words, as much as I loved this game, as much as I loved the passion put into this game (especially the fact that "one" character comes back, it shows how they cared for the fans. I guess?), I personally prefer Saints Row 3 for its simplicity. But is SR4 worth? Absolutely: it's a fun game and, surprise, games are made for having fun, and it hits the spot with some resevervation.
Has flaws, but also tons of fun in it, give it a try if you just want to relax and enjoy some silly comedy.

An interesting twist on SR3 take the exact same game with the exact same maps, and turn it into The Matrix.

Heavy on the Matrix story, heavy on the Tron: Legacy visuals, and unfortunately, heavy on crashes this thing leaves me on load screens quite a lot. It's really a lot of fun to play when it's working, but a solid -2 for the crash frequency.

The best thing about the game though is just how unpredictable it is, going into any story mission you literally have no idea what is about to happen.

The bad well, a lot of assets feel borrowed from Saints Row 3, the radio stations; save for the Mix station are total **** There's no Adult Swim station, miss you John :*(. The game literally would be better off marketed as an expansion pack than a full blown sequel, so much is reused that its' hard to justify spending $40 for a game if it doesn't feel like a full blown $40 game. Another problem is the developers used messed up ways to stretch out the game. One of the major examples are, "Clusters." Clusters allow your PC to develop their super powers and level them up, this wouldn't be a major problem unless there weren't 1,250 spread out over the whole city. Literally starting out you'll go mission to mission picking up every stupid cluster; going, "OOOH PIECE O' CANDY! OOOOH PIECE O' CANDY!" which pretty much defeats the whole purpose of "super," speed or "super," jump. After a while you literally go OCD, such as I, and just pick as many clusters up as you can before the next mission just so it won't ruin the flow of the game.

I know my cons of the game are much longer than pros, but where the game shines, it shines. Its' ridiculously over the top and as cheesy as a video game can be. It never takes itself seriously and caters to my A.D.D. It gets to the action and gets to it immediately. The game's developers took some obvious paths to stretch out the gameplay; clusters and homie side quests, but all in all its' a great thrill ride. The humor, gameplay and characters all add up to a fun game and to me that's all that matters. I wouldn't pay $40 for the game, I paid $13 for the game+the season pack DLC and feel I got my money's worth. Between the base game+dlc it took 23 hours to beat.

Everything is optional, yet nothing is a grind. // Wow. Just WOW! Saints Row IV is one of those rare games in the (increasingly saturated) genre that manages to be both original and high quality. It REDEFINES sandbox much in the same way that Grand Theft Auto III popularised it. The philosophy here is to give the player freedom. You are presented with a large set of options, tools, mechanics etc. and what you do with them is totally up to you. Saints Row IV has a surprisingly deep yet simple RPG element, in which everything is customizable. Vehicles, weapons, skills, abilities and especially your character. It's perhaps one of the least limiting open-world games to date. Not only does Saints Row IV give you the necessary tools to have fun through its RPG elements and of course, superpowers, but it also capitalizes on something so fundamental to sandbox games which has been missed by most others: VARIETY. By not taking itself seriously and having many disjointed events and tools, it manages to compile some of the best parody of other video games I have ever had the pleasure of experiencing. The level design in Saints Row IV, coupled with the whole plot, context and game mechanics, are so ridiculously unbounded that one almost wonders how games like Grand Theft Auto IV - with its repetitive missions, boring story and repetitive, dull gameplay - can co-exist alongside something as creative as Saints Row IV. The main reason the game works is due to its presentation. Everything is a game within a game. More importantly, the game KNOWS this, and takes full advantage to speak to the player directly. The designers have clearly understood the essence of what makes sandbox games so fun, and focused entirely on designing the story, levels and game mechanics around this. It blatantly steals ideas from other games such as Crackdown and Total Overdose but also ridicules other games in a light-hearted and overt manner. The over-the-top nature isn't just a fad that wears off however. It is the core of this game. It's not that Saints Row IV is ABNORMAL, it's that other open-world games don't think outside of the realms of their contexts. There are so many ideas all rolled into one (seemingly) big mess, but make no mistake. Saints Row IV is a very well-structured game and quite sensible with regards to how it co-ordinates its elements. The key to its success is modularity. Everything seems optional, yet almost everything is fun to do. So whilst a masterpiece such as San Andreas may offer a complete ecosystem, there will inevitably be activities, levels and side missions which are not particularly exciting. But in Saints Row IV, the developers didn't feel the need to make the world seem coherent and well-rounded. So everything in Saints Row IV is fun, but optional. Even the main story is optional! This non-linear approach is surely what sets open-world games apart (by definition). From a more technical perspective, Saints Row IV runs very well with negligible issues. For a game as rich as this, it is indeed baffling how the quality can be to such a mainstream standard. The options for controls, graphics and audio are also commendable and non-limiting. Visually, the game doesn't look too bad on Ultra with some awesome lighting effects, draw distance and scale, yet for an open-world game isn't too demanding. The facial detail is laughably bad - surprising given the in-depth character customisation, but this may be intentional. Finally, I'd like to round off by applauding the soundtrack. Saints Row IV has some of the most well-chosen soundtracks for an open-world game, and uses it ingeniously at times. In summary, Saints Row IV is the definition of a sandbox game. If someone asked me what the two best sandbox games are, I would say San Andreas (the best game of all time) and Saints Row IV. Expand

However, it still suffers from a god complex. You irreversibly become massively overpowered if you accidentally click the wrong stuff. Not at one point did the game feel like a real challenge. How could anyone die with infinite nuke explosions, 75% damage reduction, and the ability to rush out of battle whenever you felt like it? And no, this doesn't happen at the end of the story as a Sandbox element. It happens right in the beginning.

The story is reasonable compared to SR3, but it clings on to Saints Row 1 and 2 too much. Yes, we get it, those were wonderful games. Stop trying to evoke feelings of nostalgia. Not only is this a slap in the face for all you peasants who never played the original two games, it also feels lazy.

The gameplay was pretty good, though. Definitely not bad. Too bad the game is still so damn short. You power through ALL of the game's content in maybe 20 hours, which is certainly not what I would expect from a Saints Row game.

It's a good game, but a terrible Saints Row game. I still weep over how anything like this could have happened after Saints Row 2. Why did they go so over the top with SR3 and SR4? We'll never know.

I give the gameplay an 8, but the story a 4. Volition, please stop with this over-the-top nonsense and get back down from that over-the-top-of-Mount-Everest.

Saints Row IV is brash, its crude and immature, and yet it is also memorable. Story progression aside this game is one that sticks with you for a while and has so much potential for simple mindless fun from the over-the-top guns to the insane powers. Not much else to say, the story is more "as it comes" and combat is nothing to write home about, but when it is all taken in it is a less serious Prototype that likes to mess around in just about everything it can.Staying power is limited and just as the insanity draws you in it starts to wear off but while the momentum is up it is one hell of a ride. Bad things in this game are the super powers, I think powers ruined the game in a way (I liked SR3 way more) like driving any vehicle becomes a dumb idea 'cause you can just run and fly all the your way, I don't know I think powers took away more from the game than they added.
And also the secondary missions, boring and dumb.

The game is decent and funny anyway, just don't expect anything super mega awesome (except for the dubstep gun)

Saints Row IV cannot be taken seriously. It is a game made for simply having fun, which is what more games should focus on. Had me laughing constantly and the amount of progress there is to be made and customization is very impressive. Definitely not the next GTA but it's a hilarious game with some very unique elements that will leave you laughing all throughout.

My first impression was that it didn’t feel like a new game, rather an extensive mod/DLC for SR3. I was originally of this opinion as most of the assets had been recycled, with the same player models/costumes. Also, the city was almost exactly the same, completely reused with the addition of alien towers and various other structures scattered around the map, with the main distinction being the hue of the lighting.

Despite this, the gameplay undergoes significant changes as the game progresses. At first the changes simply feel like basic console value modifications, which led me to my initial conclusions about the game. However, as the game progresses the style of play is completely morphed into something very different. Because of this, there is more change in gameplay than most games make between sequels.

Saint Row IV continues the super-zany style of SR3, even managing to be more zany than ever before. The storyline continues from the end of SR3, you have been elected The President of USA. Suddenly aliens attack earth where they put you in what can only be described as The Matrix. In this digital version of the city of Saints Row, you start finding software glitches which you use to hack the system in order to give you superpowers.

This game features imho the best game soundtrack of the year with a variation from old vocal classics though to rap and dubstep. The music also manages to avoid becoming stagnant in the way the tracks are placed in the game with the very distinctive songs played for the most part in specific missions. Whereas the radio tracks for general gameplay are more generic songs that more easily fade into the background. In this way I didn’t get any music annoyingly ‘stuck in my head’.

Also, as I’m not a story-oriented gamer, I feel that the ending cut-scene in the game is the best ending to a game I have seen maybe ever. Not to give anything away but I’ve never seen 3D animation of this calibre, especially not in a game.

SR4 is a rather enjoyable experience all round. If you are a fan of the series, I would recommend picking it up, because if given half a chance you won’t be disappointed. If you’re unfamiliar with the series, I would recommend picking up SR3 before giving it a shot, and perhaps waiting until it is discounted.

The activities aren't as much fun. Hell, did a "mission" last night that was nothing but a bunch of boring activities strung together.

Worst design decision? The whole damned game takes place at night! You can't see the map, you can't see much of anything. Why? Who knows.

Don't get me wrong, it's kinda fun. But to be honest the Borderlands 2 Tiny Tina DLC was a much better value for the dollar.

Had this "game" been a $20 DLC it would get top marks. But as a $60 "game" it ain't worth the money.

After 2 days and about 8 hours of searching for a fix on the internet, found it's a known problem with the Steam version so it's not just the free weekend deal. Tried all and then some methods and fixes and none worked. Note I'm not the average user and know a bit about troubleshooting applications; I never had trouble starting a game, and if I did I found the fix in less than an hour.

I've seen people comparing it to previous releases, I've played and like SR3, for instance. And I think that those who disliked what SR4 has become should play GTA instead, Saints Row has always been an insane and not serious game. As someone said here it's a mix and a zeitgeist of popculture (even 8 and 16-bits-ish have been not forgotten).
If you like superpowers, sci-fi (I could say low-fi here) and loads of fun this game is for you!

    - amazing gameplay
    - fun
    - superpower with the freedom to use them the way you always wanted with your superheroes, but never been allowed to
    - interesting story
    - great soundtrack
    - incredible mini-games

    Cons
    - same graphics as in SR3 (though now they have the matrix fx)
    - less sense of humor than SR3 in some aspects (eg. the nonsense weapons are less fun)

For everyone else it's just sheer over-the-top ridiculous fun. The controls are fantastic and the game plays smoothly even on older hardware. Coop is reliable and even more satisfying than going it alone. The fact that pretty much every single mission from start to finish is coop friendly is extra icing on an already delicious psychopathic cake.

The only real issue I have with this game is that there is a bit of monotony on the various side missions available. The game does a good job in breaking it up with the homie chatter, but it does start to wear after the third or fourth "go here, kill them" mission. Then again, it's always fresh and fun if you have a coop partner.

Years after the 3rd game, the Boss (you) has been elected President of the United States, with several members of the Saints acting as cabinet. While preparing for a press conference, the Boss is told that an alien invasion is coming. Just as the Boss is informed, the invasion begins, spearheaded by the alien warlord Zinyak, who captures all of the cabinet members as well as the Boss. The story here is stupid, corny, and filled with some cliches, but surprisingly I enjoyed it. You must understand that the game isn't taking itself seriously and that it's not trying to rival GTA 5. So it's understandable that the game isn't gonna have an in-depth interactive story with great writing. Despite this, I actually wanted to keep playing until I reached the end because of the Characters. Since most of the setting is in a simulation of Steelport (city) where you do missions as a virtual version of yourself, Volition decided to bring most of the cast from the 3 earlier games back, including villains. The actual setting is in a spaceship where your physical body can chat with your crew mates, romance them (Mass Effect parody), and do quests for them. All the characters are well voiced (including all 7 voice options for your character), the dialogue is funny and witty, all characters have nice backstory (mostly in the form of audio files), and the main villain is quite entertaining to watch. Zinyak sorta reminds me of Handsome Jack from Borderlands 2. Zinyak's the kind of villain who's funny, and someone who you'll like to kill when you get the chance. Even though the story is dumb, I somehow found enjoyment in it thanks to the well made characters. 8/10

    Gameplay:
As if the story wasn't ridiculous enough, the gameplay takes the ridiculous meter, uses telekinesis on it, and shoots it towards the sky. If you thought the game was a GTA clone, then you'll be surprised with what you see. For starters, you can create your character with an impressive amount of options. On top of that, you get superpowers and outlandish weapons like alien weapons or the dubstep gun. You also get a variety of activities to do in Steelport like hacking, mayhem, fraud, blazin races, and more. Doing these will help liberate the simulation from alien control. There are also challenges you can do, up to 50 levels for you to rank up, and a check-list of upgrades (both player and superpowers) you'll want to get. There are also "side quests", but these are extremely repetitive and sometimes frustrating to play since all these quests involve you doing city activities and that's it. So while you're playing these side quest, you're also inadvertently liberating the aliens from the simulation. This means you're doing the same old activities over and over again, and not all of them work. I hated playing some of the "rift" activities as well as tk mayhem and stomp mayhem. Another problem is that the game is to easy on normal difficulty. Since you have super speed, cars are useless. since you have powers, calling in homies for backup is also useless since you can just use freeze or takedowns to win most fights. The quest variety comes from the loyalty and main questline. Here, Volution puts in so many references to movies, games, and other media that this game has been called "The Scary Movie of Video Games" by some. And that's what made these missions more entertaining then some of GTA 5's missions. Besides side quests and difficulty problems, the gameplay is ridiculously fun. 7/10

    Graphics:
The game looks outdated, even with max settings. Lip-sync is off, animations look stiff and awkward, the PC version occasionally freezes for a few seconds, and it doesn't help that the night time setting can't change until after the story is over. Overall, very mediocre. 5/10

    Sound:
Ignoring the dubstep which I hate, The actual score is really good with good techno music playing in the background of quests. It's sad that the radio songs aren't as good as GTA 5 though, but atleast we can listen to music OUTSIDE of our cars like in Watch Dogs. 7/10

    Multiplayer:
The co-op is a ton of fun to play. Not only can you do the entire story plus all the side activities with a buddy, but you can also do some 1-on-1 competitive multiplayer with some game modes. If you're someone who doesn't have anyone to play with, then unlike Borderlands 2, you can actually play by yourself fine with no unfair difficulty increase. But if you can, play with a friend because the fun starts to multiply as you play. 9/10

    Verdict:
Even though it's not the classic Saints Row experience that people were looking for, it's still a fun game with great multiplayer, good gameplay, and a surprisingly good story. Even if it's not as good as GTA 5 as many people would love to say, I still recommend you buy this, especially if you're someone who's tired of all these serious hyper-realistic games that seem to be the norm today.

However Saints Row IV's major slipping point is its re-use of the City of Steel port, a rather generic and boring industrial city but that's just nitpicking, any city is funner when you can fly naked over it.

The almost constant bombardment of parodies can sometimes get obscure, it sometimes feels like a 1/4 of the game is just pointing at Hollywood and yelling 'Ha!' but if you're attracted by that, then feel free to enjoy it, i sure did.

Whereas GTA stayed on the "realism" route, Volition apparently decided to take the batguano-over-the-top-insane route for SR. SR3 accomplished this by adding an ultra high-tech paramilitary organization with futuristic weapons and vehicles. With SRIV, the link to reality was wholly severed. Instead of zombies and lasers, you get super powers: speed, jumping, and gliding, to name some of the basics.

One drawback to these super powers is they invalidate/supersede much of the content that the genre was built on. The wide varieties of vehicles and weapons in the game become all but useless. There's no point upgrading your pistol or SMG when you can just super-punch an enemy in the dick to instakill him. Satisfying as it may be, it gets old and tedious fairly quickly.

Another disappointment with SRIV is that it inherited perhaps too much of SR3. From a story standpoint it's understandable why the same city is reused, but there were practically no improvements to it.

Like a band that experiments with different genres & sounds from album to album, Volition experimented with adding surrealism to the GTA base formula with each subsequent Saints Row game. It was fun while it lasted. Problem is now: what direction do you take the franchise after Playa/Boss has tasted super powers and killed aliens?

All it is is just dlc from Saint's Row the Third made into a game and other dlc meant for Saints Row the Third made into dlc for Saint's Row IV. I think they should've went deeper into the campaign with many characters, but sadly they didn't.

Many characters from previous Saint's Row games are only there for a mission or two and you'll never see them again. I'm really disgusted in Volition for putting out this horrible game. If they continue to move the series in this direction I refuse to buy their crappy product.

This game felt incredible rushed to release before GTA 5 to get sale, The quirkiness and the insanity just gets this game by. Il be honest it wasn't worth the £50 I spent on it when it came out. If you are new to the saints row franchise this game is for you

I pre-purchased this game, because i played Saints Row 3 alot and i really enjoyed it. I saw alot of discussions about the fact that Saints Row 4 was based on a DLC, but i decided to give it a shot anyway. And i didn't get dissapointed in any way.

First of all i love actionpacked and crazy games, which is just what SR4 is! People are talking about how easy the game is with the new super powers, but i'm on the way through the game on hardcore difficulty, and i'd say it actually offers a fairly good challenge. Im really satisfied with the new options super powers offers, and the only downside i've seen is that cars are pretty much useless now.
There've also been alot critic because some people thinks it's just Saints Row 3 over again, and i must say, pretty much the only thing they haven't changed too much is the world. There's new weapons, new clothes, new activites, superpowers, the possibility to paint your weapons and much, much more. I know there's some basic things they haven't changed either, but that's what makes Saints Row Saints Row, isn't it? I would also love a new or just bigger world, but considering the short deadline Deep Silver gave Volition at last, i'm pretty satisfied that they atleast made some changes in the city.
All in all i think this is a great sandbox games that you can spend alot time playing. I wasn't sure if i should give the game 8 or 9, but i felt that the average was a lil' low so i decided to go for the 9 out of 10. Good Job Volition!

When I bought this game, I didn't expect such a big plot twist.
Seriously? From a street gang trying to get big to fighting aliens invading Earth? I'm confused.
This seemed like a DLC of Saints Row the Third, not an entire sequel. It's the exact same map, almost the exact same guns and the exact same cars. It's like call of duty. I liked the super powers, even though they were a VERY

I liked the super powers, even though they were a VERY odd addition. I noticed that the superpower which allows you to run very fast is just one from the DLCs of SR3. They obviously didn't put any effort into this game. The guns are very meaty, and I like them a lot. I also enjoy the humour in the game.

They could have done much much better. New map? New cars? New guns? So much they could have done. I'm overall disappointed.

Saints Row 1 was a boring GTA wannabe.
Saints Row 2 was a fun GTA wannabe.
Saints Row 3 was an over-glorified sex joke with very few improvements. Saints Row 4 is THE BEST SUPERHERO GAME I'VE PLAYED! As the series went on, it became less about serious story and more about hitting old ladies with giant while dressed as a hot dog, this game takes it further by allowing you to freeze, set fire to, crush, explode, electrify and shoot people with dup-step guns, and then hit them with an over-sized tentacle!
Add in a lot of references to the Matrix, and a lot of awesome guns, and this game earns a 9 out of 10 from me.

Up until this point, I haven't really paid attention to the Saints franchise. I've never really cared for GTA in the same light also, so I took a chance purchasing this game. I'm glad I did. It has clipping issues, the graphics seem kind of muddy at times, and some aspects are overshadowed by others. The game is particularly easy even on Hardcore, and I've only died about once or twice in actual combat (partly due to superpowers that make the game a cakewalk). The story is nonsensical but that's also it's charm, as the sharp tongued writing compliments it. The hubworld is kind of small (in my opinion) and everything feels artificial in a sense. It's certainly not lively as it could be and the AI is pretty stupid at times, just allowing me to pick them off or never flanking my cover. Super powers are a blast to play with and you'll find yourself just running around like the Flash or scaling giant buildings just because you can. The soundtrack is also masterfully done, and the game sounds pretty good. Overall, it's just really fun to play. Buy it if you want to shut your mind off and just lose yourself to insanity, because it's well worth the experience. Expand

This game is amazing, sure it isnt all about gangs and **** but at least they brought back a lot of characters from Saints Row 1/2/3 . The superpowers were awesome. The weapons were awesome, the aliens and well EVERYTHING WAS AWESOME!

Looking forward to play GTA V thought. Expand

There is absolutely no reason to hate this game solely on the fact that it's not at all similar to it's predecessors. If anything, it should be APPLAUDED. I will admit the combat is rather boring and unoriginal, but that's a problem with every Saints Row game anyways, and everyone loves Professor Genki! Everyone argues that Saints Row IV is utterly random and makes no logical sense in the series of Saints Row. Uh... like the other games weren't. For 50 bucks, I'd say it's worth it, but I honestly won't consider it a must-buy until it goes down to perhaps Skyrim's price, as once you complete everything, not much fun is to be had afterwards, even with co-op. A lot of people wish the game developers will go back to their main roots and try to go back to what Saints Row 2 and Saints Row was. I'm here to tell you that is not the case, nor ever will. The introduction of Super-Powers in this game is awesome and something I had a TON of fun with. I think they introduced Super-Powers too early and I tended to use my Super Speed more then actually getting into a car. Which is really just a kick to the teeth the people who added the car customization's which is really cool.

Clothing and tattoos are pretty much the same in this game and they haven't introduced much new clothing which is disappointing but doesn't really affect the over all game play.

The story I found was much better then Saints Row 3 and I enjoyed it A LOT more then Saints Row 3. I wish though they haven't got rid of cribs you're only main crib is you're space ship you're crew stays in for the ENTIRE game.

If you wish to play a serious Sand-Box game then go play GTA but if you wan't to "kill things" in the most creative and fun way then play Saints Row 4. They completely steer away from comparison from the GTA franchise is which I think they were hoping for when they released Saints Row 3 and now Saints Row 4.

The references to Saints Row 1 and 2 is awesome and fun. I had a ton of fun playing those missions. Also bringing back Gat was an awesome choice made by the developers.

If you want to have fun killing your enemy's in the most creative way then I would recommend Saints Row 4.

This game is a lot of fun, you can play it whenever for as long as you would like. Near the end of the game it gets a bit repetitive, but nothing too bad. If you are a fan of the series buy it now, but if you think it is interesting, wait for it to go on sale.

The fourth part in the Saints Row saga is an outrageous, silly and incredibly entertaining adventure. The days of Grand Theft Auto is since long gone and the game reminds you rather of the super hero games Crackdown and Infamous. An unexpected but welcome change.
