Road Redemption is an aggressively mediocre roguelite brawler on wheels that is only fun in small bites. The attempt to recreate the feel of flawed cult classics (Road Rash) without a major overhaul is this games worst mistake. That said, I would like to see a fresh and balanced take on those old combat racers in the future.

    Pros:
    + addictive gameplay
    + great controller layout
    + good objective diversity

    Cons:
    - some bland music
    - too long to unlock more characters and bikes
    - could use a campaign mode that is not roguelike
    - getting stuck on the scenario is extremely frustrating

It's fun for few hours but I'd welcome more levels, bikes and better story mode. If they ever make secons game, I'll check it out.

Road Redemption isn’t what I hoped it would be, and that may not be entirely the game’s fault. Nostalgia can be a cruel mistress. However, the flaws on show here do prevent the game from standing up on its own, and although it can be fun and engaging sometimes, I would recommend waiting for a price drop before picking it up.

When it’s not crashing, Road Redemption offers perfect bite-sized pieces of vehicular mayhem. It’s loud and bloody and raw, and the dated graphics only increase the grit and messiness. With a few fixes, this could be an all-time classic of the genre, rather than the deeply flawed romp that it is.

Spiritual successor it may be, but Road Redemption does one thing very differently: unlike Road Rash, it offers a roguelike experience with procedurally generated mini-campaigns. [Issue#226, p.56]
