Total size on my hard-drive: 25.2 GB (20th Anniversary Edition)

+ Homages to classic Tomb Raider games abound. Simple things like grapple points, ledges, even some tomb designs.
+ Voice acting is great from all involved.
+ Excellent level design makes exploring great fun.
+ The graphics. Some of the best that can be found, even now years later. Facial animations are similarly impressive.
+ Shooting mechanics movement animations are a near-perfect copy-paste of Tomb Raider (2013). Don’t fix what isn’t broken.
+ Good stealth mechanics, should you choose that approach.
+ Environment use in firefights. Explosive barrels and such are much more common than in the 2013 game.

+/- Lara is just as breathless and emotional as in the first reboot game (from 2013). She learned nothing from her adventure on Yamati – except to be cool about killing tons of people.
+/- Platforming challenges are overly simple.
+/- Plenty of side-tombs. Each adds a different passive upgrade upon completion which cannot be obtained anywhere else. But each tomb has the SAME treasure (some sort of codex).
+/- Hunting is a crucial part of the game for crafting upgrades and ammunition. Not a bad thing in itself, but sometimes it does feel like Lara is venturing into the wilderness just to slaughter tons of wild animals. (Assassin’s Creed III’s has a similar issue.)
+/- Expeditions make an arcade game out of “wilderness survival.” There is Score Attack, Endurance (which has co-op), Chapter Replay (from the main campaign), and a few other modes. Match parameters can be modified with a number of different cards that can alter damage, available weapons, limit available ammunition etc. It feels like it was left over from a micro-transaction system. The Expeditions as a whole feel like the remnant of a cut multiplayer component. If you’re a fan of the combat it’s worth checking out, but otherwise it represents wasted development time.

    - Denuvo DRM.
    - Rise of the Tomb Raider is BRUTAL on hardware. You might think you’re fine, but then you arrive in Geothermal Valley... My RX 470 dropped to under 30 fps a few times @1080p Medium settings. No, the in-game benchmark is NOT representative of actual gameplay.
    - Lame story. There’s something about the secret to immortality, and some bad people want to find it, blah blah blah. The writers tried to link the secret with Lara’s father, but failed to set the story up properly, so when the “surprise” betrayal arrives (fairly early), it’s not enough to care about.
    - QuickTime Events return in a big way.
    - Too easy. Normal is a breeze. Experienced gamers should crank the difficulty from the outset.
    - Enemy AI is stupid. Equip a shotgun and have some patience; foot-soldiers will come to you, one by one.
    - Forced backtracking.
    - Dialogue can be incredibly cheesy, to the point of being cringe-worthy. It’s like they mined every common, over-done dramatic trope to try to sound serious. I wanted to skip large portions of some cutscenes, which is something I almost never do.
    - Music soundtrack is extremely disappointing, never rising above your average Hollywood action score. Classic Tomb Raider games had a different theme for every stage; Anniversary had a different set of themes for France, Egypt, Greece, etc. The music in Rise just smudges together a mass of repeated themes and re-used cues (some copied from the 2013 game). Very disappointing.
    - How many times can Lara run for a doorway / ledge / pool while the environment collapses around her? Too many.
    - Blood Ties DLC is a sad shell of what Croft Manor missions used to be. It is a walking sim, collecting documents and relics. No environment puzzles. No platforming challenges. No cool soundtrack.

I was critical of the 2013 Tomb Raider reboot for being more of a third-person shooter than what I considered a proper Tomb Raider game. But despite the old-school flavor the devs added to Rise, at its core it is still a third-person shooter, with larger levels and more (optional) tombs. Then you add in the disappointing story, forced backtracking, and stupid AI and Rise of the Tomb Raider can’t break free of being boring but safe. Elevated by level design and exemplary graphics, it is an above average 6/10 that unfortunately is a “flavor of the week” sort of game; play it, have fun with it, then move on to something else.

Firstly, this game is definitely overrated in my opinion, though i understand many gamers would probably disagree right away as it has been rated really well. I thought the graphics were fricking sick but i felt the story could have had more thought put in by the developers, and challenge tombs could have been worked on harder to be more challenging then they were.

The little side items that you obtain in small chests to find and grab were pretty pointless in my opinion though the gameplay was alright as I loved the inventory upgrade system with the camp fire and the areas were pretty awesome to roam around. I enjoyed the side missions much better than the story as they add more to the game and was more stuff to do. The combat was op i must admit. One more thing to say positively about rise of the tomb raider is that it was really well optimized and i only encountered one bug in a challenge tomb with a canoe.
The last tomb raider was definitely better in every way except the graphics in my view.

Instead of taking risks Crystal Dynamics instead decided to further polish and perfect the formula from Tomb Raider (2013), with incredible graphics, great voice acting and polished gameplay the game definitely is definitely worth trying out. If you really enjoyed the first game you will like this game just as much if not more.

Gorgeous, mundane, repetitive and buggy. This is the best way to describe my feelings upon completion. At the start i was thrilled, In the end I just wanted to see the ending and I do not looking forward to replay it. Too much stuff to do (at the end I was deliberately ignoring collectibles just to reach the end) and what's even worse - too much emphasis on gunfight.

It is what a Tomb Raider game should be: linear levels, lots of exploration and non stop action keeping the essence of the first games of the saga released in PS1; with added features like the possibility to upgrade skills and weapons. I enjoyed it very much, and the variety of secondary missions makes you want to complete it 100% which extends the lifetime of the game. Totally recommended.

Raise of the Tomb raider-сиквел перезапуска знаменитой франшизы.

One drawback to visual quality is that there is a lot of aliasing and no sensible way to remove it, also distant landscape is sometimes not that good. Gameplay wise the game is good for the most part. It is a mix of everything - exploring, puzzles, action, arcade elements, combat, stealth, gathering materials. Especially those action-arcade elements when you are escaping from somewhere can be epic. Unfortunately devs tried to make the game too flashy, some crazy jumps or fighting 20 enemies at once is not really doing anything good for this game, it is only making it look cheap. Generally a good game with very impressive visuals, all the gameplay mechanics are also very good and well thought, but some things like those mentioned above are just ridiculous. Could be better with some adjustments, but game remains engaging and impressive for the most part and has many strong points, I would give it 8.5 if there was an option, but since there is no, very solid 8. Completion: Finished game and Croft Manor on Seasoned Raider (hard) difficulty

    Pros:
    - All-around gorgeous visuals. Although some of the character models can look plastic at times, nearly everything other visual quality is excellent. Some of the best realistic visuals I have seen - the spectacle really works.
    - Many gameplay improvements over the first game - better upgrades, puzzles, platforming, and combat. Generally, playing the game is fun.
    - Some of the best platforming in this semi-open world third-person narrative-driven action-adventure genre. This is an awful name, but I'm including titles such as the Uncharted games, God of War (2018), The Last of Us, etc. In most of these games, climbing is simply something that has to be done and is largely difficult to fail. While the platforming in Rise of the Tomb Raider is still rather simple and difficulty to fail at, the number of different inputs and reflex-based QTEs make it more involved and overall a more engaging process.
    - Animal fights are interesting and bring an interesting direction for the series to expand in
    - Levels are generally well designed with gorgeous, believable visuals/layouts and multiple paths/hiding spots for the enemy encounters
    - Tombs are the best part of the game and actually offer fun, though not too challenging puzzles.
    - Lara feels a lot smoother to control and both combat/exploration are generally fun. Everything is smooth and flows well - I found it a great decision to not have regenerating health during battles on the higher difficulty modes - although this ends up being trivialized by how overpowered healing becomes with the right upgrades

    Cons:
    - The two more open areas actually detract from the narrative-driven nature of the game. Going around for all the collectibles is generally not fun - especially when there is so much ground to cover.
    - Too many meaningless checklists the game strings you along to doing
    - Although the game offers you more options in combat, it is never actually difficult enough to push you into using any of these new tools - such as the intriguing on-the-fly crafting that more or less never actually needs to be utilized
    - Too much hand holding when it comes to platforming and puzzles. Detective vision makes every puzzle boil down to interacting with all the highlighted objects
    - There are too many different types of collectibles and resources - crafting in this type of game should not be so tedious with having to constantly pick up so many different items off of the terrain. Although the addition of a few new resources would make sense, I find the use of a dozen (maybe more?) resources to be unnecessary and bogs the pace of the game down
    - The audio logs/letters slow down the pace of the game too much. Why not have them play while you go through the actual game such as in Bioshock? Seems pointless to sit there and read the entries when most of them are already voiced anyways
    - Story is a disaster. Countless plot holes and inconsistent characterization. The definite low point of this game for me. I found it difficult to care about anything that was happening. I cannot stress how forgettable and sometimes even bewilderingly bad the story was.

    Final Word:
Although Rise of the Tomb Raider improves upon its predecessor in a number of different ways, especially in the actual moment-to-moment gameplay, the crafting, exploration, and story have all undergone changes that are ultimately for the worse. In this sense, while Rise of the Tomb Raider certainly has taken many steps forward from the original, it is ultimately for the worse, albeit slightly.

    Final Score:

So as I said, if you feel bad and you need distractions it is a good choice. If you don't, then spend your precious hours to more deserving title.

Everything ranging from the graphics (which are incredibly high quality) to a new form of gaining experience that's based on exploration rather than only killing enemies really makes this sequel shine.

Rise maintained the look and feel of the original game and improved many features that gamers felt were underwhelming in the prequel. Sprinting is now available, making travelling long distances a lot less frustrating and removing the need to jump/strafe spam to travel faster.

Rise doesn't follow the story of its prequel (aside from the reintroduction of one other character, but that isn't a big deal), which means that you don't need to play the prequel to understand this game. For fans of Square Enix's action games, stealth elements were added to this sequel, meaning combat has been improved and is a bit more satisfying to play as you can play stealthily instead of aggressively if you so desire.

Unfortunately, some peeves I have are that the Poison and Explosive Arrows are overpowered (you'll know when you use them), and that a lot of features are unnecessary to beat the game or are unlocked at times when they are no longer useful. For example, the only reason why you explore the tombs is for the sake of beating them, not for the reward.

Overall, I feel I enjoyed the game quite a bit and am happy to maintain my rating of 8 for its rather lengthy story. Rise has improved from its prequel, although its puzzles are still a bit too easy. I didn't bother with the Expedition or Endurance modes, unless they were one of the extra gameplay DLCs ( reviewed below).

    BABA YAGA DLC
I like how this DLC was embedded into the main game, and was positioned rather early on in the story. It was actually quite challenging and had a nice story to it. I liked it quite a lot, so I'll give it a 8/10.

    COLD DARKNESS DLC
This is only accessible on the main menu. It's a little map with two main objectives to complete. I recommend playing it on as hard as possible, and try not to die. Overall, this DLC was rather short, didn't contribute to the story, and was only moderately challenging, so I can only give it a 7/10.

    BLOOD TIES DLC
This is an absolute treat, and completely redeems the game's lackluster puzzles for me. You explore Lara's estate in order to collect clues to crack the combinations to her father's safe as well as his secret vault. There is plenty of documents and relics all over the map, and it actually feels rewarding to find each one of them for the story. This DLC definitely gets a 10/10 out of me, as I always love having a mystery to solve.

If you're trying to get full completion for Croft Manor, as long as you make sure to search everywhere, you will pretty much have everything found prior to the final cutscene. After that cutscene passes, you should check the study at the beginning and the cellar and secret vault to collect the rest.

    LARA'S NIGHTMARE DLC
I thought this mode was kind of stale, but the eerie environment coupled with the difficulty of trying to aim on a controller made it somewhat challenging. The boss fight was incredibly underwhelming though. Overall, it was short, had no story, and didn't have a point to it, so I will give it a 6/10.

And i totally hate it, when it ends. Not really short, but i neeeeed it to be way longer.

Rise of the Tomb Raider is an action-adventure video game developed by Crystal Dynamics. It is the sequel to the 2013 video game, Tomb Raider, and the eleventh entry in the Tomb Raider series.

Happy with the previous game and happy with this one too. Nice balance in almost everything, exploration, combat, story. Looking forward to the next one.

After delaying the game for me to complete for many years, I have finally come around to completing this game. I have to say the game is great! Sometimes the controls isn't as responsive as it should be, I'm not sure if it's me or the game but that's what I was experiencing.
Overall, a great game! Looking forward to completing Shadow of the Tomb Raider!

Rise of the Tomb Raider is exactly what a game sequel should be - an evolution of a proven concept, with incremental improvements in almost every area, but without removing or breaking any of the elements that made the predecessor work.

Gorgeous visuals (especially landscapes and Lara herself

Ideally a great continuation of Larissa's adventures since 2013.
I liked the graphics of the flight, the changes in game mechanics more (at least some sense in collecting everything in the world added), the story - a discreet adventure, will pull.
The world is beautiful and contrasting - half the game in the snow trampled, the other half in the Byzantine steppes. I did not like a couple

I did not like a couple of moments: you can kill the immortals without Greek fire (stupid and rejects the whole lor and records about them) and in the battle with Constantine, you can only kill him from behind with two strikes, although there is an opportunity to hit the frontal infinitely (the dumbest solution - it would be better to cancel it)

The thing that really stands out about Rise of the Tomb Raider is that you care about the characters at all.

Lara Croft's latest adventure represents some of the best platforming in 3D you can get. A paradoxical mix of brutal reality and crazy Indiana Jones action.

Hands down the finest version of the best Tomb Raider game. [03/2016, p.68]
